"An illusion?" Ophelia mutters, a faint flush of embarassment rising to her cheeks. I could have sworn it was real...

![]() |

Moadis looks at the dead snake with a far away expression on his face. After awhile he mumbles.
I knew a guy who got biten by a demonic viper during a patrol once. In minutes his lower leg turned purple and started to swell like a ballon. We had to amputate it in the field, right in the middle of the worldwound.
Terrible, terrible business.

Aurelia's Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
The jeweled key does not work in the steel cube's lock, but the golden key does turn, opening the chest. Suddenly, a magical trap goes off turning the floor and nearby wall blue, but Aurelia's successfully resists the coloring effect through force of will.
The interior of the chest contains a map of the Salhar burial vaults beneath Sothis and a wand.
It's a wand of knock (CL 3rd, 11 charges).
With no real chests left, the remaining key is probably to the door.

Mel is duly impressed, "I knew women were stubborn." he says with a grin. "now let's grab that key and get out of here."

GM Harker |

The jeweled scepter key does work on the door, leading you out of the room. The servant who directed you to the room waits outside, nodding to you as you depart, ”You may keep everything you found in the room, except the keys.”
With all the tasks completed and the day nearly at its end, it's time to return to the Grand Lodge.

Ophelia keeps her head down during the long walk back, feeling thoroughly useless.

GM Harker |

As the group moves through the Foreign Quarter to make its way to the Grand Lodge, a throng of people blocks the street ahead. A performance art group commandeers the street, drawing graffiti to create a jolly hellscape complete with illusory devils comically dancing around in circles. A few citizens avoiding the crowd slip off-street through a nearby alley, the only egress past the gathering.
Midway through the alley, several of you recognize the face of a human man who seems to be waiting for you. Although rather unremarkable in appearance, he probably is the man who was watching the group earlier in the day. He is accompanied by two human women and a male halfling with a handlebar mustache. Their body language suggests ill intent.

Aurelia scowls darkly at the thugs waiting in ambush down the alleyway. "Excuse me," she spits venomously, "but you are blocking our passage here. Move, or I shall make you move!"
With one simple gesture, a fiery summoning circle featuring the pentacle of Asmodeus appears in the air before the masked woman; Aurelia's hair likewise catches alight, her eyes burning with hellfire. From the circle steps a black-furred rottweiler, its eyes glowing with red malice and its hackles raised in a snarl. A row of bone-spurs arch down its back.
Summoning a fiendish dog with my summon monster ability. 3/7 used for today.

GM Harker |

Despite all the people in the way, Melufiuos' arrow strikes the blonde hiding in the back. Aurelia's fiendish dog appears in front of the other group much to their dismay.
The redhead whistles, signaling the others to action. She then attempts to slashing at the dog with her shortsword, but fails to hit.
The average looking human man moves down the alley to become adjacent to the dog.
The Halfling gets a mad look in his eye and rushes forth 5' to also attack Aurelia's summoned dog with his greataxe. He drops the dog with one blow. 11 Damage. "Only cowards send pets to fight for them!" He taunts afterwards.
With an incredulous look at the arrow in her shoulder, the blonde woman casts a spell from a scroll. A thick fog fills the alleyway around the woman.
Obscuring Mist is in effect. The line on the map indicates where the mist starts. You cannot see anything beyond 5' in the mist, and things within 5' receive a 20% miss chance. Beyond 5' is a 50% miss chance as you cannot see anything. I left the enemy icons on the map since that's where they were before the mist appeared.

Not seeing an opening, and having already spent the only spell that would be useful in this situation, Ophelia simply draws her morningstar, feeling the heavy weight of the weapon in her hand. The idea of fighting other people sickens her - why do they attack us?

Valik, unable to see the enemy in front of him, decides that the best course of action is to bolster his defense. He grabs his sansetsukon, and enter a defensive stance and awaits the enemy presence.
move action: grab weapon...standard action: go defensive AC 20?

GM Harker |

@Valik, it's a surprise round action for you, so you can only take either a move or a standard. Let me know which one you want to do. It looks like drawing your weapon takes precedence.
Since Valik's action probably won't change another PC's actions, we'll start the next round.

He then yells, "If its battle you want, battle you shall have, quit hiding in that mist and see how this pet fights!" he almost spits out the word pet.

Darn, I should have pulled out my wand of burning hands (CL3) instead. Then I could have run up to the mists edge and let them have it. Oh well.
Seeing the mist, Mel curses himself for not drawing his wand instead. But he has a bow in hand, so he'll make due with that. He is tempted to fire blindly into the mists, but he restrains himself. Taking a deep breath and letting out the familiar hum associated with using an arcane charge, he waits. If anything comes out (or to the edge) of the fog, he lets fly with an arrow.

Aurelia winces as her connection to the fiendish hound is severed mere moments after she had summoned it into existence. She moves to the back of the group, muttering an invocation but letting the final syllables hang in the air.

Valik pulls out his ancestral weapon in preparation for combat.
Belroar calls up Gorum's favor to bless the group in battle.
Melufiuos and Aurelia ready bow and magic respectively for any enemy emerging from the fog.
A female voice drifts out from the mist, her odd words and phrasing indicating a spell.
The human male rushes out of the mist, only to be targeted by an arrow from Melufious, which misses, and a Grease spell from Aurelia which his fast reflexes counter. The halfling rushes out of the mist only to have his dreams of carnage stopped by his ally in the way. "Out of the way, Larkin! I want to teach that big-mouthed half-breed a lesson!" He growls.

Sorry to hold this up. Had a rough time in my mate's game yesterday; been kinda shaken up since. And of course, I had to spoil my mum today...
Ophelia curses the narrow alleyway. He morningstar hangs heavy in her hand, her wooden holy symbol hands lighter at her throat. She runs over the spells she'd prepared - nothing particularly useful. ut Belroar was bleeding, and as he was most likely to be targeted...
She steps up, reaching a hand out to rest againt the large half-orc's wounded side. "Nu în acest an, nu a fost încă," she whispers, and the lavendar light spreads from her fingertips, stitching the wound closed. There's still a trickle of blood from one corner, but at least now it's not likely to pull open further.

I'm very sorry, Belroar. There's a small chance Aurelia's eagle may be able to kill the halfling before he gets a chance to make his attack, if so, then this obviously won't happen.

@Mel, with Moadis in front of you, his physical presence acts as cover against your ranged attack, giving the halfling a +4 AC to your attack.
Melufiuos fires an arrow at the halfling, but it hits the side of a nearby building instead of its intended target. Valik then strikes out at the murderous halfing. His first attack comes nowhere close to hitting him, but the second solidly connects!
Wiping the blood from his face, a crazed smile forms on the halfling's lips, "You're next."
Ophelia, Aurelia, and Moadis are up.
