But I wouldnt put that unless I knew I would escape or I could assume I dont and wait for the GM to respond. Like we are kinda doing now. You didnt during that time so I thought I had failed. Since the DC of a grapple normally tells you around what the CMD of the creature is, it would have made the choice to 5ft or move away easier (As the Acrobatics DC is usually that. It's a Pbp so some advanced posting is needed (like my parries kinda) but some is still cause and effect. So the question now is, will Kael have to stay here now. as its possible from that action and others lack of action he may likely go unconcious


I would like from now on for combat posts to include all actions taken in a turn, in advance or otherwise if a situation like this arises, due to the fact that it could affect other players choices at the time for their own posts and to keep me informed and not have to search for any one particular post. If you want to acrobatics or five foot go ahead. But you also have to avoid the swords CMD if you want to leave the room with acrobatics. Lightt would need to redo her turn also.

Kael makes it away. The kid will give chase to Kael, The kid moves out to Kael. Velania gets AoO.

Kael looks down to Mordrin then to the other three. " He's bleeding profusely.. anyone here sane or are you all still charmed by that thing? Otherwise he needs attention quickly. " Kael was still wary of them. He wasnt sure how long the effects would last.

His eyes linger on the Gunpowder only slightly.

While the others search the room, Light will take ten on a heal check to stop the bleeding on Mordrin and then apply one dose of smelling salts to wake him up. (he's at -12 if he doesn't roll Nat 20 on stabilization((DM Approved))

Light walks over to Mordrin taking off her mask and hood. Pulling her hair back she pulls out some meical supplies and begins working on closing up the wounds Mordrin endured during the battle. Carefully she begins stitching them up as gently as she could. Her face shows concern as well as precision and confidence as she applies basic mending. She then rests his head on her lap increasing the incline his upper body to a 25-30 degree angle. Reaching once more into her satchel she pulls out her smelling salts and using a small dosage Light holds them to his nose and awaits his consciousness to return.

"Mordrin, you okay?" Light asks bleakly. Should he try to move she will hold him down and insist he rests and not take anymore actions, "I'll take a better looks at you in the medical bay... you as well if you'd like Vel.

Turning her head now to Amelia and Kael, "I suggest we all get away with this as a lesson and leave before we loose anyone" Light exclaims. "I'll continue with purifying the ship and sink it to be with the depths where it belongs,... hopefully this will put the victims to rest.....Oh, and we should grab Mr Eddison before our departure."

Light carefully helps stand Mordrin upright before she walks him to their ship. To sit him down on a step ensuring him she would do a better job on stiching him up in their medical bay once they began sailing away and the ship was burning.

Once safely to their ship she would aim her gun and shoot, igniting the barrel of black powder and watch it burn the ship as they sailed away. (I make this known to the party that it is what I will be doing.)

Kael seems relieved the adjustment of his eyes making that clear. " Right, you do so. Make sure to use a little oil and dip it in rags. This ship has been in fog and moisture for a while.. it will take a bit more to dry it enough to burn properly. " He cracks his shoulder, the pain still there from the bite. Venturing back inside to find what they would need.

As Light's treatment takes effect, Mordrin clutches his holy symbol tightly. Well this is somewhat embarrassing, he says. Right away the healer has to be healed. Still, thank you for your aid. He allows Light to help him up and onto the other ship, where he quickly lies down on the cot in the medical bay and begins to rest.


Kael's search of the cabin proves fruitful. Aside from the Helm and Greatsword that lay upon the floor, a key attached to a thin rope can also be found amongst the cleanly picked bones of what actually appears to be two bodies worth.

The cabin itself is of modest acomidations. A Jolly Roger hangs across the wall above the bed. It has a skull in the center that has chains wrapped around and entering the eye sockets and exiting the mouth, the chains trail off to either side ending in long barbed harpoon heads.

Knowledge: Local DC 15:
You are aware that this is the Jolly Roger of the Chain Pirates. They are a well established pirate group within this area of the sea and usually use chains as weapons. Seeing there Jolly Roger on the wall can only mean that Jeraen and his crew overthrew them after a unsuccessful raid on this very ship.

A open footlocker lays half pulled out from under the bed. Laying inside is some strewn about clothes and nothing of note. You do however find the remains of a skeletal hand that still grips a wand just to the side of the footlocker.

A ship in a bottle sits upon a desk in the corner, also upon the desk is a small black lacquered wooden box that is locked along with a map, navigators tools, inkwell and a intricate quill, it has a engraved golden grip attached, the feather itself of a exotic bird of some kind.

Other than that, not much else can be found inside the room.

Kael goes about his normal procedure of calibrating the value of all that he could. Then transferring the materials to someone else after affirming they were safe to transport. He looked at the Jolly Roger inquisitively, wondering what it may be.

He picks up the key and closes his eyes for but a second, a solemn and morose expression upon his face as he gave the likely parents a silent prayer. He also Seemed to have problems with the box and had to try more.

Once Light gets him back to the med bay, Mordrin draws the wand he used earlier out of a pocket in his cloak and offers it to Light. Any chance you could help me with this? I'm afraid I'd do as much harm as good if I tried right now. You know how to use one of these don't you? He then lays back with a groan of pain and awaits further treatment.

Attack Barrel to set off the fireworks: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Light scans the ship briefly in case there were any other immediate threats,... Or threats at all for that matter. In addition to her "purging" the ship she will take Kael's suggestion into consideration should she find any oil.

When we make it to the med bay

"Mordrin, I have never known how to use magical items. Do you have or know if there is a healing kit on board Mordrin? That's more my forte"
Attempting to treat deadly wounds, takes 1hour. If there is a mad kit I expend a use of it per try to not take a -2. If 20+ he heals for his level. If beaten by 5+ it increases by my wisdom modifier as well, (+3).

Ah, yes. Forgive me. I had hoped that you might have some latent magical talents. So many new companions to keep track of. Anyhow, I stowed my medical supplies in the cabinet just over there. Please help yourself to them. Mordrin directs Light to a cabinet in the corner of the room. He proves to be a good patient, though he tends to be a bit of a back-seat medic.

"I might not be as skilled as you, but it's been enough to get me through rough times" she would show a smile and gratitude, while trying to also show she at least had some talent.

Afterwords she would clean up any and all of the mess she'd made, "rest now, I'll go and start on some food."

Thanks for the heals! Sadly, each attempt uses 2 uses of the healer's kit, so that's 4 uses gone. Still, 5 hp is a big step in the right direction!

Thank you for your attention, Light. Be sure that I will return the favor if the need should ever arise, though I hope it does not. He then lays his head back according to Light's directions and patiently waits for his meal. As he waits, he thinks through the battle and considers how he might have been of more assistance to the group. I suppose I should have just tried to take out the boy and sword by continuing to negate their negative energy with my positive. Thankfully this wasn't a lethal encounter for us this time. I shall have to be more careful in the future, however. He then drifts off into a light sleep.


Appraise results:

The helm and sword, despite the obvious battle damage they endured seem to be of exquisite craftsmanship. Though determining a price is out of reach at the moment.

The wand as anyone could have guessed is magical, any further details however can only be ascertained by a magic user.

The ship in the bottle! It appears to be of elven make and is worth well over 1000gp. It's just a okay model in reality.

The lacquered box has the Merchants Guild insignia on it. It is water tight and reinforced with iron braids. Both of your attempts at opening it prove unsuccessful. And the key you found is much to large to even begin to fit. Giggity

The map is pretty worn and virtually unusable, as you can't even read the names of the islands on the map as they are so faded.

Standard Navigator's tools, though oddly have seen little use.

The inkwell is your standard inkwell, The golden grip and the feather are a different story. The gold engraved grip fits perfectly into your hand, pressing the end of the quill to paper makes a golden light appear, though without ink, the dot of light fades on the paper slowly. The quill itself appears to be a feather from a swan.

Kael notes the quality of some of the items, placing them into respective areas based on use, worth and any magical capabilities. It was quite intriguing the spoils the crew gathered from this venture, though the cost of innocent lives.

Seeing the key was of no use here, the half-elven man flicked his left ear, a habit he developed out of frustration. It was a one of the few ways to do so without facial indication and overtly caused little pain. Twirling it inside his right hand Kael went below deck as Light was finishing her preparations to retrieve their aquatic friend. With a simple twist of the key he unlatched the globe and carried him upon board.

" It seems you shall be accompanying our crew for some time Mr. Edison, I hope this is to your liking? I hope there was nothing of note you might have wanted to tell us before we left. " Kael would raise a brow as the vibrant explosion upon the other ship flares from afar, himself watching with stone slate visage. " Now then, it is time to check up on the status of the crew and report the findings, it may be prudent to identify those which I cannot determine. "

Somewhat forcefully, Kael had Mr. Edison Accompany him to check on Mordrin in the Sick bay and he recently seen the man fall in battle. He arrives as the man seemingly rested and raised a brow. " Mordrin are you not well enough to move? Can you not use your wand or healing to right yourself? "

Mordrin quickly wakes from his nap and gives Kael a grumpy sleep face from the bed. I thought I might let nature take its course to heal me, but since we're apparently in a hurry...

" Well I do have the capability of using such curative wands as I had noted when we first met. I assumed you might need my assistance. At least until you were somewhat better. While I too would enjoy the food, I do wish to know if you are capable of something. There were a plethora of magical items I believe accompanied our venture. There is also a map that is very faded, do you have magic that could restore it to its previous form, to fix it? Like Mending Do you have any capability to identify magical items as well? "

Mordrin closely examined the items Kael indicates. Hmm. Unfortunately, I do not have a particular talent for identifying magical items or for repairing mundane ones. Our captain seems to have some arcane abilities, however. Perhaps she could enlighten us.

Sorry, I got nothing that could help here beyond Detect Magic, which would basically end with, "Yep, those items sure are magic!"

Kael gave a satisfied nod, " Very well then, I had wanted to have the report mostly complete by time we requested her aid but this serviceable. I suppose we should rendezvous with the rest and speak on the current situation. I gather the map may give greater insight. " Kael takes a few steps towards the galley before stopping for a second, " I sincerely hope Light can cook better than this woman I know, I rather not have to pretend to enjoy charcoal.. or poison. " Continuing on to regroup with the rest of the crew.

As Kael would round the corner with the key below decks, he hears a hollow moan from lowest level of the ship. Continuing... Mr Edison floats in his little aquarium ball appearing to be muttering something to himself.

When he sees you have the key he will cease muttering and clear his throat, "Erhrump! Capital! Now would you kindly get me off this ship? Please and thank you. Oh an careful unlocking the chain, I'm a bit heavier than you may think."

With a twist the chain comes loose, Kael's arm strains under the weight of the aquarium. As Mr. Edison had said, it is way heavier than you initially thought. You now have a heavy load as long as you carry Mr. Edison.

Kael hefts the chain over his shoulder and departs for the other ship. Mr. Edison turns to Kael during the slow walk.

"You found a golden quill grip in the cabin right? With a swan feather? It is something Jeraen used to communicate with me while he was off the ship. I'll tell you all how it works later."

Lightt finishes her preparations and the crew clears off the ship. Mr. Edison will look on as the ship begins to smolder and catch fire.

"It was as much my prison as it was my home... I assume you found Jeraen's son?" Mr. Edison will ask, a bit mournfully and in a low tone. "That boy was the only light I had while I was there. Though I assume he is gone, for he isn't with you..."

Kael is surprised by the weight but considering the size and material with the amount of water he thought better of it. " I indeed located the quill, it is quite elegant and clearly a magical implement of some kind. Your assistance is welcome. "

Kael twitched slightly and shook his head in shame when he mentions the child. " Jeraen's son suffered a cruel fate. I could only end the unnatural prison he had to endure. They were not even safe inside the barred door. There are things that should not have occurred, the flame of a young life snatched before it could grow. The parents being eaten by one they loved and possessing the weapons to guard him. That is what I believed was their fate. " Kael then looks at Edison, " I will not lie, I am having doubts even you had gone untouched from the curse, but let us hope so. "

Mordrin casts a suspicious glance toward Mr. Edison and says to the both of them, Perhaps, after I get some rest, I could pray to the spirits to grant me a way to suss out any remaining undead taint on our ship or any of the materials we took from Jeraen's ship. For the time being, perhaps we should find a safe central location where we can stow anything we took from the other ship and place it under guard. That way we can ensure that any remaining undead influence is contained.

Mordrin walks with Kael and Edison to the galley, where he hopes to find Light. Light, have you seen the captain? he asks. Kael and I have been talking about trying to ward off any further spread of the undead from the other ship and wanted to talk it over with you and the captain, but we haven't seen her in a while. He takes a seat at the table and is quickly reminded of his wounds by a stiffness in his chest as he sits. Oh! By the way, I was able to heal myself a bit. Your attention went a long way to setting me right, so thanks again. I'll be glad to touch up any wounds any of you received as well once we have everyone together.

Upon entering the galley, Light is seen moving fluidly around preparing dinner. An uplifting aroma courses about the room as she places dinnerware on the table. "Feeling better Mordrin? I would've brought you something so you could rest..." She smiles, simply a gesture of relief more or less. "Last I knew the captain was with Kael, I haven't seen nor heard from her since we set the ship ablaze... I would assume she'd be in her cabin if not with you all."

She'd make her way back over to where she was preparing the food for a dinner, the smells of gravy and meats were most prominent among scents. "Anytime Mordrin, "

Kael stops, watching the movements of Light with amusement and abject praise. Though her painting skills required much work it was clear the culinary arts were a different story. " Light, your craftsmanship and culinary skills are exquisite. I am not ashamed to admit I have no such capability outside of basic oats and biscuits. I have never been more fortunate to want food. As for the Captain, I lost sight of her as we were transferring much of the cargo and examining certain pieces. It is a good guess she may well be deciding how to handle the situation now that her quarry is no more. I suppose she shall be down for dinner much like Velania and Alabar. On that subject, was anyone aware of the language that boy spoke? It has been itching in my cerebrum for quite some time. "

Kael looks down at the fishbowl, " Mr. Edison I assume you have had little sustenance for some time? "

That is a very good point, Edison. And Kael, you are right that the infection appeared to spread because of the food. Let's go wash up. It can't hurt. Mordrin stands from the table and heads out to the top deck. He finds a bucket of fresh water and some soap on the way. When he arrives on deck, he quickly and unabashedly disrobes, making sure to set his soiled and bloodied clothes aside so they can be washed and purified as well. Anyone else on deck will notice that Mordrin is quite fit, but rather lean, like he has done plenty of work that has kept his body in good condition, but food has not always been plentiful.

After washing himself for a few minutes, making sure to wash his hair, nails, and any other conceivable location where the bile might have reached, he leaves the soap and bucket behind, gathers his clothes, making sure to only touch the cleanest looking parts, and heads down to the bunk room, where he finds an extra set of clothes that are rather baggy on him.

There, he says to the apparently empty room. Fresh and clean

Once Kael had also done the " Ceremony of the Naked Pirate, " he complimented Light at random intervals, savoring the delectable meal. Mr. Edison was hung from the ceiling, of to his right as they ate so that he could speak with the recently liberated fish. To exchange knowledge between each other, Kael mentions the box he had issue opening and the faded map which he wished to identify.

The suggestion of course went out to Mordrin to prepare a spell to Mend the map to its proper form. That should expedite the process.

Similarly he pondered on the surrounding area and where one could load off recently acquired cargo for sell without garnering too much attention.

Other than turning back to Lowgate, their isn't another trade island for at least another month worth of time. There are a few islands on the way their, but dumping a lot of loot in a none trade city/town can cause suspicion. The nearest island aside from Lowgate is Galia, a vast tropical island know for its particularly large beasts, that is two weeks away.

If you were to travel to the nearest trade island, Kartheisly. You would first come to a huge island named Vielundra. A island home to Halflings and Giants.

Assuming Kael shares this information, Mordrin would vote for Vielundra. He would want to head somewhere with sentient beings at least, even if it's not a huge trade hub.

We may be able to warn someone that people have been transporting dangerous undead artifacts lately. Not sure what to do after that, but it's a start. Let's head toward Kartheisly.
