"Broccan, Ah need some 'elp from ye, lad!"
Edrukk moves 5' "up" on the map to get a flank with Broccan.
Enlarged greatsword attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2, 6) + 4 = 17
D'oh! I just realized I think I placed the damage on Edrukk for an attack that didn't hit! I need to go back and figure out what my hp really are...

KenderKin |
Edrukk drops the Droll as the tapestry continues to burn like some kind of flaming cape....
The Howler seeing the fall of the Droll runs out the kitchen door.....
As the howler leaves the scene in a sudden puff of smoke a beholder appears, a creature Large bulboulous creature with chitoneous plates of armor floats above the ground. It has big strands atop its head that look like strange hair with eyes set on the end of each one.
“I have come for Terrem Kharatys. That boy should not have been taken from Cauldron. I intend to see that he is safely returned to his orphanage. You can keep the others. They are of no consequence. Come, Terrem – you will be safe with me.”
The beholder turns it’s giant main eye towards you.. “I will pay you 50 platinum pieces for your trouble.”
A veiled woman appears out of thin air and offers forth a pouch.
A beam of energy streaks towards the child disintegrating the shackles into nothingness, another eye strikes the boy and pulls him quickly towards the beholder.

Edrukk looks thoughtful, then replies, "Yer goin' t' scare th' folk 't th' orphanage if'n ye show up wit' th' boy. We 'r takin' th' kids - all o' 'em - t' th' orphanage. We c'n take Terrem fer ye. Ah'm sure ye c'n verify 'at's truly 'at we do."

Erine
Beholders are very powerful beings, able to disitegrate, objects/people ect with a single thought. You also recall they can cause fear, charm, turn to stone and other terrible abilities..
A hobgoblin runs in from the kitchen door,...
The beholder turns an eye upon it and a ray of ggreen energy shoots forth...
Then the hobgoblin is gone in a puff of acridic smoke!

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

"A be'older?" He looks at Sanstree and the others. Shrugging his massive shoulders, he says, "If'n ye think 'at's 'ow 't should be, we c'n take th' others."
After seeing the hobgoblin destroyed, Edrukk takes half a step back. "Mebbe if'n ye send th' lass 'ere wit' the boy, ye 'ill no' scare th' folks 't th' orphanage, I suppose."

Canvy, still scratching his head and despite the healing seeing a few stars, looks at the beholder, watching it disintegrate the hobgoblin. "yeah" he starts off with a slow groan, "50 plat seems a reasonable amount, a little on the short side, considering what we've been through, but if that's all you can offer, I suppose we'll take it." Canvy stares at the space where at te space where the Hobgoblin had stood, "you know on second thoughts, it may be a very fair offer."

Knowledge arcane or dungeoneering

Tis said the large eye of a beholder cancels magic within it..
"Very wise of you!" States the beholder as it vanishes as suddenly as it came....
Sanstree bars the kitchen door and notes that the is the safest room in the entire complex.....
Two of the orphans are still in the room....
additionally the two halflings and female dwarf all come inside to camp for the evening...
Time to level!
Ah yes the black platemail and the Urgosh are easily pulled out once the fire burns out and the metal cools....

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

Edrukk would consider taking the armor, but he has little interest in the urgosh. He's more than happy to let Broccan or Canvy have either if they wish. If no one wants the urgosh, he will strap it on his back for now.
Addressing Erine, he asks, "Lass, d'ye think 'ese 'ave a magic on 'em?"
He can detect magic, but he has more faith in her judgment about such things.
Knowledge (Arcana) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
He whispers to the gnomes, "Ah've 'eard th' big eye o' th' be'older cancels magic. Th' lady 'at was 'ere - d'ye think she was jus' unseen except when she was 'n front o' th' thing? More, d'ye think 't 's still 'ere? Or she 's?"
Level up? Cool! Will take me a little time to get that done, though. Can you refresh my memory about how we roll for hit points, good DM?
Edrukk will use his remaining channels to get everyone as close to full strength as he can, including the former captives. Gather 'round, all!

"Easy enough to find out," Erine says. She murmurs something under her breath, and her eyes seem to enlarge.
Detect Magic. Scanning the area where the beholder was (and the woman), and the items.

Also, did the woman resemble the buyer?

Canvy too is interested in the platemail to replace his existing mail. He's very hittable, only interested if it gives a plus to AC...otherwise he's just gonna take the punishment like an 'alf-orc. He also likes the black colour. He has no interest in the weapon, other than to sell it for cash.

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

With the new level, Edrukk is more capable to provide buffs, so I think he may not be on the front lines quite as much. You two figure out which gets the armor between you.

KenderKin |
You find the full plate is just that a suit of full plate..though black in color…
The Urgosh is masterwork, but not magical
4 throwing axes, two shortswords, 2 shortbows, 35 arrows,
200 gold
The orphans manage to find a key ring with three keys as they take turns poking the corpses with arrows and shortswords taken from the hobgoblins…..
One of the orphans tells you..
”The main cells have lots more people bein held prisoners an they have a torture chambers where they like tah torture people.”
Note on leveling up full hit points per level and of course a new hero point. Anything Core or APG
Don’t forget feats!

"He said he was payin us fer out trouble. I am thinkin maybe he was payin fer our silence, or maybe he was gonna pay tha slaver tha amount an gave it tah us instead. I realize now why tha old druid an allustan were concerned, I doubt tha pair would surive against such a beast."
"I think tha buyer turned invisible an ran away rather than stay an fight..."

"I think tha buyer turned invisible an ran away rather than stay an fight..."
Way to steal Erine's thunder...
Also, I repeat my question.Erine frowns. "My thoughts exactly. Actually, I suspect both. We just saved him some money, and he pays us anyways? He wasn't worried about us trying to force money out of him, and he didn't seem a generous sort."

Minniwick Zookwinkle |

"Maybe that was it's idea of a joke? Who knows I am just glad not to have ended up like this hobgoblin." After passing out the rest of his food to the kids he scoops a bit of the hobgoblin ash into a vial. "Odd looking thing......" Far away gaze... "I just had a great idea for a hat!" With charcoal and parchment he will start sketching out his new Beholder hat.

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

"Ah'm worried 'bout 'ose other prisoners." Turning to the orphan, he asks, "'ow many d'ye thin' 'r 'n th' cells? 'ow many goblins 'r guardin' 'em?"

Sanstree |

"We have a list o people taken from Cauldron an we know some was sold intah tha underdark like Mrs. Ironfolds husband, so the rest have tah be here still yet. These three was working in tha forge room and this one was workin in tha kitchen, these orphans was here tah be sold, an tha rest have tha be in tha holdin cells."

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

"Th' question 's n' if'n we rescue th' others, 't be if'n we c'n do 't now 'r if'n we need t' get more 'elp 'r supplies first. Lad, tell me everythin' ye c'n remember - 'ow many cells, where th' 'obgoblins be, if'n 'ey leave fer some reason. Do 'ey 'ave less guards 't night, b' chance?"

KenderKin |
Maple pipes in...
"Kazjomen Drollwas tha toughest thing in this whole place an from what ye've said yah have done kilt tha two toughest things in tha whole placeFilthy Ogre an tha chances are good you'll be facing every last hobgoblin left in here when yah leaves this room. I'd be decidin which way yer leavin an whether o not yah can take them Hobgoblins!"
DM will need to know a planned exit route, time etc.....
1. the door back to the kitchen
2. the double doors into the hallway
3. both

A set of two levers sits by the double doors, you can also peek out the doors through a sliding plate...

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

Minniwick Zookwinkle |

"Let's get the rest of those prisoners."
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Maple looks at the MAP
and looks thoughtful
she points at the row of cells off to the left of the room you are in...Far left hand bottom corner of the map
"It should be these cells!"
"Thank ye, lass. N' 'at 'ould be 'n 'ese hallways 'tween 'ere 'n 'ere?"
Edrukk points to the hallways between their current position and the cells.

"'ell, th' map come off'n a dead 'obgoblin, but 't might be a fake fer such 's us. If'n ye trust yer memory, whereabouts d'ye think th' cells should be instead?"

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

"Aye, 'tis true. Ah'm 'alf tempted t' 'ave ye lead us wit' yer eyes closed, Maple, while th' rest o' 's watch fer guards. 'ouldja be willin' t' do 'at?"
If so, Edrukk proposes she walk in the middle by Erine and/or Minniwick while the Broccan and Edrukk walk just ahead and Canvy walks rearguard. That puts someone with darkvision on both ends of the party and a more proficient warrior on both ends, as well. And protects the lass while our wee members share her comments with the rest of us.

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

"Eh? So 't does..."
Edrukk will begin examining the wall where the door should be. "Some'un wit' better eyes should be over 'ere, Ah'm thinkin'."

Edrukk...
A large portion of stone gives way under your strength and opens with a grating noise. The hall beyond is unlit, yet you sense a coolness to the air and even hear a bit of water. Peering into the darkness you see the hall is in fact a bridge over a stream of flowing water a "T" intersection waits just over the bridge, leading to 3 long hallways.

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

"Maple, lass, d'ye 'member th' air bein' cool 'r th' sound o' water while ye were blindfolded?"
Is the hallway dusty or does it appear to be traveled to a non-tracker's eyes?
