Tori advances into the next room and fires an arrow at the nearest flat-footed creature she can see.

Turan steps forward, ready to protect his team mates and take on what ever will come for them.
Tori moves into the next room, closer to the creatures and fires an arrow at one of them..which penetrates deeply in it's hideous body

Adeah Silversong |
She loads her weapon as quickly as she can, keeping cover between herself and the creatures.
Not much else I can do on the first turn.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
I think she can, I can see reasons for not doing it as well though.
Adeah loads her gun.
One of the dretches moves forward and Milo flings some fire at it but it sails past the creature and hits the wall next to it. Then just at it is about to swipe a claw at Turan, Turan he slices it in half.
The other two moves forward as well, one going for Turan
Claw vs Turans AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
and the other going for Tori
Claw vs Toir's AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
but both creatures fail to claw their way past armor to get to fleshy parts underneath.

Tori drops her bow, pulls out a longsword and attempts to cut the creature down. Unfortunately, she much more successful with bows.
longsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Milo Flamecursed |
Milo curses in orcish as his first shot goes wide, but the flame reforms in his hand immediately, and he winds up and tosses another soon thereafter.
Ranged Touch into melee: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 4 = 9, for 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 fire damage.
And although his aim is better, the creature now engaged in combat with Tori, zigs when he was hoping it would zag, and the second shot has the exact same result as the first.
Oh, but he's certainly giving the walls the what for!
Adeah Silversong |
If I have a clear shot at the one in front of Tori, I'll shoot from here; if not, I'll step in closer
Going down on one knee, she takes aim at one of the bizarre creatures and pulls the trigger. BOOM!
Musket attack (touch): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Archibald the Addlebrained |
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
"Edible? Why..." the wizard pauses, blustering and unwilling to admit his ignorance. "Why, yes! I do believe so!" Archibald says, stuffing two of the yellowcaps into his mouth and saving several dozen for later.
Bonded Staff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Confirm?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Archibald harrumphs contemptuously, and unwilling to waste valuable magic on the only remaining threat, gives it a loud, hard thump with his staff.
Turan the Wanderer |
Turan face to face with the ugly creature swings his Sansetsukon once more with feeling aiming for the the head. He strickes true and lands a telling blow which sees much of the creatures head end up against the wall.
Attack1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 Damage 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Tori drops her bow and swings with her long sword ..but misses the creature standing in front of her.
Milo decorates the walls some more with nice burn patterns.
Adeah shoots a bullet straight through the arm of the creature standing in front of Tori..and as it comes out the other side of it's arm it buries itself somewhere between his ribs ..dropping the creature to the floor.
Archibald slams his staff on the head of the only remaining creature caving in the side of it's skull which Turan quickly follows up on with a telling blow smearing much of the creatures head against the wall obscuring Milo's wall art.
Out of combat
After having taken down the last dretch you move through the rest of the Emporium taking your time to search all the vaults.
Mixed among the wreckage of the vaults are: brooch of shielding (30 charges), potion of enlarge person, a screaming bolt, wand of shocking grasp (50 charges), and a gold necklace worth 300 gp.
(Since it doesn't matter for time I'll assume that you take 20 or just keep trying Spellcraft/Appraise until you identify/Value everything.)
What do you want to do now? (You actions will decide how the story will conclude).
Milo Flamecursed |
I'm waiting for Archi to go on his magic carpet ride... Heh.
How long before the shrooms kick in?
As the last of the dretches falls, Milo's mood only seems to get worse, a continuous stream of orcish profanity his only commentary, as he takes a few moments to completely incinerate one of their bodies in anger.
"bloody royal assassins to be sure." he mutters angrily. "Whole trip, a bleedin' waste a time. Bloody lurker was off his head from the go."
Adeah Silversong |
She lowers her weapon, stands up, and slings it across her back. She goes to the drawing of what appears to be a portal, ignoring Milo and the newly-dead bodies. She'd been joking at first, but now begins to wonder whether this really is the "portal" the addle-brained old man had been referring to. Who knows what a senile mind might've thought had come out of it.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Tori Petrana |
"Am I missing something? How did the crazy guy get ahold of a wayfinder? Why does he think he's a prince? Where did those creatures come from?" The fighter asks with confusion.
Milo Flamecursed |
Milo hitches a thumb back towards the front. "Compass belonged to the dead git, if the paper's straight and he's labeled proper" he grumbles, seemingly having calmed down a bit. "Dunno 'bout the rest... "
is there more info in the books and journals? An indicator on the used scroll or scroll case what it contained?
The gnome wanders back over to where the 'portal' and scroll case were, and examines them thoughtfully, picking up the used scroll.
"Someone bent this though." he says holding it up then looking inside the case that most likely once contained it. "Not too long off, if the glimmer marks is shiny." he adds indicating the burn marks on it.
He pulls out a small dagger and starts scraping at the paint on the 'portal'.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
It doesn't mention it in the scenario, I don't think they considered anyone trying it...
It takes about a minute before Archiblad starts to see the portal swirls in a bunch of different colors ..as Milo starts to scrape away at it with his dagger it looks to Archibald as if Milo is slicing away at it, bleeding it empty as sparks fly out of it.
About the scroll case, just the spellcraft check - but it was some sort of summon spell (which didn't work perfectly at your tier so the dretches are pretty modified, less resistance, less damage stuff like that
When you study the journals again (One of the last ledgers mentions that Relios was falling on hard times and intended to sell his wayfinder back to the Pathfinder Society) you eventually come to the following conclusions;
No clue if you'd piece this together in game ..all thought there are clues, but just so you as players know
Gandros has been here for decades by himself ever since his father died when he was a small child.
He couldn't read that great so he mistook Emporium (name of the shop) for something having to do with an Empire and made his father up to be the Emperor - which made him the heir -> Prince
His father used to be a pathfinder -> That's where the wayfinder came from.
He went a little bit nutty from eating mushrooms for decades and found the scroll somewhere in the shop and used it to make the "portal" work.
Tori Petrana |
When the group returns, Tori will let someone more learned try to explain what was going on, only piping in when a point or two is left out. As for the fate of Gandros, she suggests he be left in the care of some clerics of Desna who may be able to cure him of his mental affliction.
Adeah Silversong |
Heh, yea I figured it was the mushrooms that made the "portal" seem to do stuff. Of course, Adeah has no idea what yellowcaps are so she could only guess.
Milo Flamecursed |
I vote we let a hallucinating Archi do the explaining!
Milo doesn't much care what happens to Gandros, now that they've solved their assigned task. If asked, he suggests just telling him the assassins have been dealt with and send him back to his fairy minions, and mushroom diet.
Turan the Wanderer |
Turan is relieved that apparently everything was a grand misunderstanding and that they were able to clear things up. He thanks his fellow pathfinders for the good work.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Once the dretches are defeated, it is safe for Gandros to return home which he wishes to do. He is firmly entrenched in his delusions regardless of what you tell him. He magnanimously grants you anything they want from among the remains of the Emporium basement.
If you arrange to have him removed to an asylum (which I think is what Tori suggests), the conditions are little better than his existing home, but he happily christens the place “his new royal palace.”
Venture-Captain Caudron Wallace is more relieved than disappointed that there is no otherworldly portal in the sewers, but mostly self-satisfied that the whole thing was a waste of his time as he predicted.
