Well, given that stupid halfling keeps rolling insanely high... We should really fall back.
Theon steps back the cover of the wall and takes a moment to catch his breath. "They have the advantage, we must fall back." He says to his comrades. He then holds back and prepares to attack the first enemy that presents themselves to him.
5' step back, readying an attack action for the first of the enemies to come up.

![]() |

Ky'ang winces at the idea, but knows it is for the best and she reaches down with more water, splashing the healing waters into Maldrek's face while letting the burn to wash over her.
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Whispering down to Maldrek, she says firmly, "We need to retreat back and take them tactically. Fall back...quickly."
Then quickly, Ky'ang retreats back.

Roscoe again takes aim with his crossbow at the dark haired woman.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Crit Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
After the bevy of awful attacks the party has had, Roscoe finally sends a bolt flying that hits with some force.

G.M.E.W. |

@Maldrek,
You have cover from the rapier guy so no AoO.
@Theon,
Sorry to skip you but I don't think it will change what they do. Please take two rounds of actions.
The Dark haired woman cries out in pain as Roscoe's bolt lodges itself into her chest. The other attackers seem to hold their actions waiting to see what to do next.
They figured it out you fools! Attack! Kill them! The Dark Haired woman screams as she clutches the bolt.
Grinning the halfling charges charges at Maldrek.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16 Miss!
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
The man with the rapier moves forward behind the halfling attempting to dodge to the side hoping to prevent an attack from Maldrek. And takes a swing at Zarlonna.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 Just made it!
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Miss!
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
The dark haired woman points at Maldrek Him! Take that one out! The One in front! She yells at the blond. Seemingly annoyed at being yelled at the blond woman makes a face at the leader and sends a missle of pure energy zomming over the halfling's head and smashing into Maldrek.
Magic Missle
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Not seeing him go down the Goth Woman curses as she moves forward and takes up position behind the halfling. Grasping her holy symbol she focuses on it for a second and suddenly there are to of her standing side-by-side.
Round 5
Bold is up
Roscoe
Ky'ang
Zarlonna
Akvius - stable
Maldrek
Theon - Two actions
Rapier Dude -0hp
Mustache -8hp
Blondy
Goth -8hp

Seeing double of the dark-haired woman, Roscoe decides to take aim at the blonde woman instead, after watching her magic missiles slam into Maldrek.
"Maldrek, I'd recommend smashing the little guy. Roscoe says, flashing a slight grin before releasing another shot with his crossbow.
Attack Blonde Woman: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
The little halfling seems to have found his stride, as another bolt whistles through the air and strikes his target.

![]() |

"Roscoe or Zarlonna, please take a quick step back!" IF it's not too late, and he can 5' back, then I'd appreciate it, if not, then I'll have to wait for others to move...need to get in for healing!

![]() |

Cough, Theon needs healing. At 2 HP... Cough. ;) You can heal me this round so I can get into the front-line with Maldrek.
Also... I guess we can just say Theon wasted his first round action? Given the state of things, there's really nothing he can do for the first round that wouldn't be retconing a lot and possibly using metagaming. So I'll say he hesitated the first round...
Theon grimaces as he looks at the battlefield, with the halfling and the kitsune up in the front line. "Yes indeed, fall back. I will take up the position in the front!"
Readying an action to move into position the second Roscoe steps out of the way. When he does move, Theon will 5' step to the "south" into Roscoe's old square and attack the human.

![]() |

Reaches over and pumps more healing into Theon, hoping to turn the tide of this battle.
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
That was my last burn. From here on out, my healing starts to hurt.

![]() |

Zarlonna appears a momentarily stunned by the sudden appearance of a 2nd dark haired lady.
She'll then provoke an AoO from Rapier guy when she draws her morningstar to swing.
Not sure if I should roll the attack now, but here it is just in case.
morningstar: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 101d8 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

![]() |

Sorry, Zarlonna, that was not meant to come off as snippy (one of those instances where text does not relate inflictions). Also, you are right... I did not realize you were jammed up in a corner there!

![]() |

Roscoe senses Theon's urge to get in front of him, hopefully to get back into the fray and takes a small step back to make room.

G.M.E.W. |

@Maldrek
The Magic Missle put you at 0hp correct? Your attack would have caused you to go negative. Please roll a stabilization check.
@Roscoe,
You crossbow attack didn't take into account cover right?
@Theon
I'm OK with a ret-con, Since you hadn't been healed yet I figured you were going to make a ranged attack or something. If there is something else you wanted to do please let me know. You are healed and Maldrek is down so you should be good to step in and attack.
@Zarlonna
Drawing a weapon doesn't provoke, sheathing a weapon does.
Roscoe's bolt does indeed fly true, straight at the blond haired woman's chest but unfortunately it hits some sot of invisible barrier and clatters harmlessly to the ground.
Zarlonna takes a swing at the man with the rapier but he easily dodges the attack.
Maldrek, barely standing after the last attack glares at the halfling, rage burning bright in his eyes. The Halfling continues his laughter as the brawler moves in for the attack. Maldrek feignts an attack from above, the halfling falls for the ploy bringing his axe up to block. This gives the tiefling the opening he was waiting for and he brings his knee up hard into the little barbarian's face. With a loud crack, that resonates around the ally, Maldrek shatters the halfling's nose and jaw sending him crashing to the ground, blood pouring all over his once glorious mustache. Unfortunately Maldrek, woozy from his multiple wounds, can only savor the victory for a moment as he too falls to the ground.
Round 5

Ky'ang
Zarlonna
Akvius - stable
Maldrek - Stabilization check
Theon - Two actions
Rapier Dude -0hp
Mustache -15hp
Blondy
Goth -8hp

Only problem with ranged attack is that I'd waste an entire round just getting the bow out and then half another round putting it away to engage in melee lol!
Theon slips into position where Roscoe stepped back to give him access to the rapier wielding lunatic. His blade flashes towards the man as Zarlonna also engages him!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
These die rolls are going to get us killed. Our enemies are hitting every round while we might go two rounds without a single hit...

Fair enough, we'll says you were on delay.
[ooc]These die rolls are going to get us killed. Our enemies are hitting every round while we might go two rounds without a single hit...
They all missed last round, well not Blondy but the Halfling did. Plus with Maldrek finally taking out the half ling, this fight just got a lot easier.
Theon steps into the fray but is unable to land a blow on the man with the rapier.
The man returns Theon's attack with one of his own but Theon is easily able to dodge the awkward attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The Dark Haired woman, cursing the incompetence of her companions, steps over the fallen barbarian lunging at Theon with a short sword. Unfortunately the fighter is unable to distinguish which on of the woman is the real threat and receives a nasty cut across his side. With her attack over the second image of the dark haired woman disappears
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The Blond haired woman, not liking how close Roscoe came to hitting her, launches a glob of acid at the gnome, but misses horibly.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

No I did not take cover into account before. Posted from work and had no access to the map.
Let me know if I performed the next part correctly.
Roscoe sees a way in which he can reach the rapier dude to continue helping and drops his crossbow Free Action and takes a small step forward as he draws his Morningstar from his side Move Action. Once within range the diminutive halfling aims his morningstar at the man's knees, hoping a good swing will bring the man down to Roscoe's size Standard Action.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Absolutely awful rolls

![]() |

posting from my phone, I will move my icon shortly to the proper place on the map.
Seeing an opportunity to make things easier for him and Zarlonna, Theon slips between the rapier fellow and the dark-haired woman to set up a flank. He attacks the rapier wielding tiefling!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
5' step and attack. Not sure if that will hit though... Hopefully that flank will give Zarlonna that extra umph she needs and setup for a SA!.

![]() |

Seeing Maldrek fall and Theon rush back in, she grimaces. knowing if she moves it, her abilities will become much, much more difficult. Frustrated, she sees Theon rush off, but steps forward, hoping to heal Maldrek, after all. She also draws out her wand as she does so and nods to Roscoe, "I believe you can use this, if you get the chance or need..."
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Maldrek gets another touch, but it has a little bit of a sting to it. Heal 5 points of damage, but take 1 point of non-removable until you sleep non-lethal.

G.M.E.W. |

With Theon stepping into the flank and distracting the man with the rapier Zarlonna is able to land a solid blow with her mornignstar on the man's arm. The man curses loudly and pulls away as his arm hangs uselessly at his side. Gripping his rapier he desperately looks around like a trapped animal.
Roused by Ky'ang's magic Maldrek lashes out with a swift kick right to the Dark haired woman's Abdomen. With a whoosh all of the air is knocked out of her chest and the sounds of cracked ribs echo down the ally. The woman desperately tries to catch her breath but the blow is too much and her eyes roll back as she collapses on the ground.
Seeing the dark haired woman drop the man with the rapier ducks low an tries to escape past the party. As he moves out of range of Zarlonna he stumbles ever so slightly in front of Maldrek and Theon providing them each with an opening for an attack.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 oooo this is going to hurt. AoO from both Maldrek and Theon. I removed him from the map because he is either going down form the attacks or he is booking it out of the ally
From down the ally the blond woman Curses at the rapier dude as he flees Must I do everything myself!
Moveing down the ally towards the party she stops suddenly and reaches out her hand in your direction. With a few quick words a blast of color washes out over you assaulting your senses!
Roscoe, Maldrek, and Theon need to make DC 14 will saves or be knocked out of the fight for
Color Spray: 3d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) + 1 = 9 rounds
This is a illusion (pattern)
Round 6
Bold is up
Roscoe
Ky'ang
Zarlonna
Akvius - stable
Maldrek
Theon
Blondy

Maldrek manages sweep the legs out from the man with the rapier sending him spraweling face first into the wall. As he slups to the ground Maldrek can see blood pooling around the mans head, that is right before he is blinded, stunned, and knocked unconscious.
So far Maldrek has been able to land the 'killing' blow on 3 of the 4!

![]() |

Nicely done, Maldrek!
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Theon lets out a cheer as Maldrek takes down both of the last two combatants! "Well, done fellow B-Kni---" his remaining words are lost as the wave of colors wash over him. Theon's knees buckle and his eyes roll up into his head as he collapses to the ground with a heavy thud!
Ouch, this is not good.

![]() |

Unfortunately, no. I'm purely online PFS player, I don't ever have the time to make it to conventions or any of those sorts of things. Also, Zarlonna, you get 1 more 1d6 on that crit! Bows are X3... I always make the same mistake :)

![]() |

Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
As the halfling watches Maldrek continue to pummel enemies before him, he feels the need to locate the blonde woman again. Just as his eyes make contact with her a rainbow of color hits him.
We all failed that check...here goes 9 rounds!

G.M.E.W. |

Theon can use my reroll. When I GM in RL I always bring a folio to lend out to someone with out a reroll. That being said he doesn't even need it![/b]
As the front line fighters start to drop due to the sorceress's spell Zarlonna realizes it is all up to her to end this fight. With on quick motion she drops her morningstar, bends down, snaches up her bow, and draws and notches an arrow. Taking a deep breath she steadies her aim and just as the blond haired woman lifts her head in a evil laugh of triumph Zarlonna lets the arrow fly. Her aim is perfect and the arrow lodges itself in the woman's exposed throat! She tries to to give a surprised cry but all that comes out is bloody cough. After what seems like an eternity of desperate attempts to breath the sorceress falls to her knees and then collapses.
[OOC]Combat Over!
Scenario Over!
You report back to Ambris who seems a little annoyed that you took so long but his tone quickly changes to one of surprised respect after you tell him about being jumped.
Feel free to RP your victorious return to the Grand Lodge.
I'll start work on reporting and chronicles.
This was one of my first successful attempts at GMing a pbps so I'd love to hear any feedback you might have, good or bad.
Also for those of you who have played this before I'd like to hear what you though of my adaptation to the new factions.
OK now for the moment you have all been waiting for!
GAME DAY BOON ROLLS!
A roll of a 1 or a 20 gets you a boon!
-no rerolls-
GMEW: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Theon: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Maldrek: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Zarlonna: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Roscoe: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Ka'ang: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Akvius: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Oooo so close! Sorry guys no boons this time around :(

Ky'ang proceeds to put her wand away and then go to each of her companions and heal them. Each time, it is a bit painful, leaving them with aches of the wounds they had received, but it seemed as if only in their head, because the wound was fully closed. "A good night's rest and you will be fine...quite complaining," she would say to anyone who complained.
Returning to the lodge, the Kineticist shakes her head at her day of being a gopher. "Glad that is over."
GM, honestly, that was very well run, even if we had the worst dice luck I have ever seen. My post last night got eaten, which is good...because it was 2 natural '1's.
That said, I hope you don't mind, but I want to steal your introductions to the factions. That was really well done, and while I think there could be a few tweaks, I think it is something that is very much needed. Well done, indeed!
In fact, if you are looking for players in the future, please keep me in mind, I have a couple of characters that are largely online only.
That said, if you could report mine for character 11, that would be preferable, since Mr. Compton has said I can't continue playing my kineticist since we weren't done when the playtest ended.

G.M.E.W. |

Thanks! Yes definitely steel whatever you like. I was thinking I'd submit this to John to see if he wanted to use some of it to update the scenario.
I'm trying to figure out what to run right now. I posted an offer on the recruitment thread to do a GM 1-1 trade. If someone wanted to GM one of my wishlist scenarios I'd GM one of theirs.
I'll make sure to report you as -11.

G.M.E.W. |

I would really like to just play them but if I don't hear from anyone else I might hit you up on this offer. I might try and talk Bold Strider into running them once he is done running with the Echos of the Everwar arch I'm in.
Did any thing else on my wish list look like something you might want to GM?
Are there any scenarios that you really want to play?

![]() |

Theon wakes with a jerk at Ky'ang's urgings. He presses his hands over his face with a groan. "Seven Hells, I feel as if on the wrong side of a legendary Opparan hangover." He sees the blonde woman nearby with one of Zarlonna's arrows sticking from her throat. He turns to the kitsune with a grin. "Well shot! You saved our skins, Zarlonna!"
Upon their return to the grand lodge, Theon struts in like a triumphant peacock. "Worry not, we have returned!" He proudly displays his wounds as they describe the attack in the alleyway and their success with all presented tasks.
I'd be interested in joining. What level is this Scenario we are looking at? Also, GMEW, I loved the fact that you tweaked around the faction introductions. I really feel as if Paizo needs to release an updated version of First Steps to introduce the new faction versions.

G.M.E.W. |

GMEW, if you give me until after this weekend to assemble my thoughts and a good crew, I'll run the whole set for you.
As I've already played at least two games you ran, no exchange will be necessary.
Really!?! That would be awesome!
Is there anything you want to play though? I'm gong to run something one way or the other. Aveyen is a Arcane Archer - but not really he is Fighter (Cad) 1/ Wizard (Transmutation) 6/ Eldritch Knight 3. I'm an archer that shoots 1 arrow a round. If you need some more people to round out the table I have some suggestions.
The Runelord Arch is Tier 7-11
