Ha! That works out ok since I've been fishing all weekend, and may be again tomorrow. Frankie doesn't have much to offer at this point in combat anyhow.

Honorbound Emissaries

You know what? I'm gonna retcon that hit that KO'd Frankie. I think you're right that you should have had cover from the pillar. I didn't account for that. So, Frankie, you're still okay.
Saritirnen, we still need your turn before the archer takes another shot at the tree.

Saritirnen steps forward away from the sanctuary of the pillar moving behind the orc. Setting his feet as best as possible he stabs at the brute engaged with the orc.

The Pathfinder's forces begin to reassemble as their strange attackers converge on them. What had seemed to be a near-fatal attack on their you friend, Frankie, turns out to have been a trick of the lighting as the brute's club had actually slammed into the pillar, covering the boy in a thick layer of marble dust, but otherwise unharmed. Meredith and Saritirnen, meanwhile give the brute something to think about as they gather around the boy.

Back near the front of the shrine, the elven archer takes a step back, thinking that a bit of would be useful so that he can fire off a shot at the tree creature standing right in front of him. He backs a few feet away to take his shot, but is surprised to find he is not far enough as Denair swings at him. His quick elven reflexes serve him well, however, and he manages to dodge the opportune blow and fire an arrow.

Longbow, Bless, Guidance: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 19 Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

The arrow punches deeply into Denair's bark-like flesh, sending her reeling with pain.

Alice, could you fix the formatting on that CLW roll?

Zavubak unleashes a furious assault on the brute in orange, though the orange clothes quickly take on a darker shade as a Tarantino-esque spray of blood erupts from the brute's neck! The man writhes in place for a moment before collapsing to the floor, a fountain of blood still rising from his neck and several feet into the air until the man's heart finally gives out. He DEAD!

With a scream of fury, the other brute rushes headlong at Zavubak, his club raised over his head in a no-holds-barred attack against the vicious half-orc. "YOU KILLED ARTIE! NOW IMMA KILL YA!"

No problem, Alice! Just wanted to make sure you had the opportunity to do the heals yourself. :)

Though Meredith's attack against the spell caster is unsuccessful, she has given the woman something to be aware of. Meanwhile, Saritirnen utters a powerful word of command in his native tongue, and the magic begins to wrap around the remaining brute.

While the brute struggles to fight against the elf's powerful presence, the elven archer tries to take advantage of Meredith's focus on his boss to sneak up and attack her from behind. If you insist, here's the spoiler on the ability if you aren't familiar with it.

Halfling Adaptable Luck:
Adaptable Luck: Some halflings have greater control over their innate luck. This ability gives them more options for how they can apply their good fortune from day to day, but also narrows its scope. Three times per day, a halfling can gain a +2 luck bonus on an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. If halflings choose to use the ability before they make the roll or check, they gain the full +2 bonus; if they choose to do so afterward, they only gain a +1 bonus. Using adaptive luck in this way is not an action. This racial trait replaces halfling luck.

Alice lays a guiding hand on Frankie's head, helping him to continue his reign of adulticide. Meredith does her best to strike at the elven archer, but his quick reflexes continue to vex her. Saritirnen moves forward and, with a click of his spear on the marble floors of the Shrine, utters a command that immediately ensnares the doomed archer. The ancient spirits that Saritirnen carries with him extend their grasp around the archer's mind and draw him hopelessly toward Saritirnen, their elven voices calling out like a message from a long-lost home. With staggering steps, the archer moves away from Frankie, around the pillar, and on toward his inevitable doom.

He's gonna provoke AoOs from EVERYONE except Alice. Go nuts team!

Ya I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to handle combat with Frankie, multiple personalities would make it easier and more things to RP. He's got to be able to do stuff in combat, I was thinking of going the improvised weapons route, being able to kick asses with teddy bears and cocoa mugs but they aren't finesseable so that's kinda out.

He's definitely not going to be a combat heavy guy but there are some fights where he's going to need to put out a bit of damage, I just need to figure out how to do it and keep with his overall character idea.

Chronicles for all!

Thank you all so much for playing with me through my first foray behind the GM screen! You all made it an absolute blast and your feedback and corrections when I went too far afield were very helpful. Do you guys have any final notes/suggestions for me so I can improve for next time?

As for your game, nothing really bad that I can think of, actually. Your expository writing was great - something I really admire in GMs as it's a harder to paint a scene with words than it is to roll some dice. You did well with combat either way, and I didn't feel like anything was unfair or overly easy. 10/10 would play again!

I agree with Zav. Good descriptions.

I wouldn't mind playing in the future.
But for now my games plate is pretty full.

Yeah, I've lessened my "games plate" pretty severely... I'm down to 2 after this and Silken Caravan finish. Gallows will be done soon too.
I picked up a Skulls & Shackles table for another GM while he's away, I'm hoping he comes back soon, I'm itching to start my own AP!

Compared to that, i'm involved in more than 1 AP.

And a number of PFS.

Is it wrong to want to have a PC die, just so i can quit a game legit?
^^

Granted, i've the time frame for it.

Edit: We're only missing the date of when you reported it, but we can edit that in ourselves.

Wednesday 22nd, right?

Honorbound Emissaries

Yeah...I've been trying to cut back some recently, but still involved in a bunch. I'm in 4 APs/long-term campaigns plus 5 PFS games. I had about 8 games going up until the past week or two, but this game and a couple others wrapped up, so that'll help.

Edit: Crap! Forgot the dates. Yeah it'll be Feb 22 that the game wrapped up. I'll work on reporting the game here too.

OH! I just noticed you're in that Northlands table, Sir Beard.
I used to play in that as Haldor last year, but when the original GM disappeared, I wasn't a big fan of the homebrew. I remember being really sour about him disappearing because that was the second game I ever joined and I'd worked pretty hard on my character, haha. How are you liking it?

Weee! Chronicles! Great fun, bring Frankie back any time. As everyone else said, great writing, combat descriptions go a long way in making the scene vivid, you did great. Of the limited GM's I've played under in PbP, you and Red are top notch in that for sure.

I'll be out of town till Sunday so I'll get back to any more comments then. I've got some ice fishin/drinkin to do!

Oh yeah! I think we figured that out back when we were playing through Skykey Solution or something. Yeah, it's continued to be pretty hit-and-miss, even with the new GM. He's frequently really busy because he and his wife are about to have their first child. The home-brew elements are fine, but the campaign has really been moving at a crawl. I've actually been thinking about dipping out of that one because that initial investment that we all put into our characters and the connections between them has kinda evaporated.

Generally positive feedback

Thanks for the support, everyone. I definitely have taken a lot of inspiration from some of the GMs I've played under as far as giving decent combat descriptions goes (definitely including you, Red), so I'm glad that came across well.

One thing I was a bit concerned with was whether you felt like I was doing too much hand-holding in places, especially as it came to different skill checks and such. Any thoughts on that?

Wiffle! I just remembered!

I've only done Wounded Wisp in PbP, and that puzzle slows us down a lot, everytime. The activation is so specific with so many high Perception checks I never remember. This is a scenario that would take maybe 10 minutes in real time if we were at a table, but we wind up losing a few days in PbP because we try it, the GM tells us it's wrong, we try something else, the GM tells us it's wrong again, we have to try again, finally the GM guides one of our hands to the chalk and the nameplate. That's somewhere as a GM, I would actually would hold hands after the first try- it's just not exciting for the amount of time we lose, you know?

Next time, could you transcribe the handwritten letters? I've done some myself and it's a huge pain. But the readability improvement is too good to pass up. Even a quick "Highlight with a mouse and copy-paste" will do wonders, just put it in a spoiler.

Honorbound Emissaries

Yes! Meredith I had the same problem in the PbP group I played through this with a few months back. If I remember correctly, I think one of us managed the Perception check, then the GM just said, 'Hey you're in!' Good to know that it would actually benefit from a bit more guidance there, though.

And yeah, I think I will copy over the letters for future reference. It just makes it a bit easier to refer to immediately within the post.

Thanks for the great suggestions!

Honorbound Emissaries

By the way, if any of you are indeed interested in playing with me again, keep an eye on Flaxseed. I'll be posting an announcement for another game in the next few days or so.
