Harsk, the Dwarven Ranger
Harsk has a bad feeling about all of this. But if they manage to find what they're looking and leave without making a scene, he's all up for it. Besides, sometimes it pays off to help others, and they've got his back in case something goes wrong.
Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Harsk heaves and lifts the stones with all his might. "Anything under there?" He grunts.
Moving Harsk over to Seoni, I assume that's where the shiny is.
DM Kludde
Harsk shows off his muscle, and manages to clear away the large boulders. Beneath it, up for grabs, is the magical lantern.
I moved everyone a bit closer on the map - adjust your token if needed
DM Kludde
Seoni detects a very faint trace of evocation on the lantern. She confirms this is indeed, as the journal indicated, a Grim lantern, though it seems battered and damaged, and the power is fainter than it should be.
This macabre lantern is composed of a humanoid skull dangling from a short length of chain. A small fragment of soulstuff is trapped inside, burning slowly in a heatless flame. Its flickering light shines from the skull's eye sockets, casting light as a bullseye lantern. On command, the lantern can consume its soulstuff in a sudden blast of heat, as burning hands. Doing so extinguishes the lantern. Whenever a living creature with at least 1 HD is slain within 30 feet of an empty grim lantern, the lantern absorbs a fragment of that creature's soul, restoring its glow.
DM Kludde
It does. All of a sudden, the grunting, growling, hissing and snarling of animals can be heard emerging from the woods, and light flickers at the centre of the stone circle...
DM Kludde
Amiri peers into the mists and sees a glowing, translucent humanoid shape, with the very visible head of bear. All the while the sound of growling wildlife persists.
McS Pregen
Reiko steps forward a bit, shouldering an opening between Amiri and Kyra. She holds up her hand, palm up showing the pile of pointed metal in her hand.
Making sure the everyone sees them, she waves a cautionary hand before she throws the bits.

Throwing caltrops. There is a gap in the trees, fifteen feet up and ten feet up from where the Reiko token currently is. I want to fill that square, the gap in the trees, with the caltrops and drop back again. Make sense? if you would like a more full move action, I'll slither past people to deploy them, and end up one square up and to the right of Hayaka.

Hayako's mare snorts in anticipation of battle as the wildlife sounds continue.
The samurai sits expertly in the saddle, his katana held at an angle in his right hand.

Amiri, do you want to have your attack strike the elk instead?
Amiri hacks at the herd animal, leaving a dripping carcass on the forest floor.

Sounds like a good plan!
Feeling almost silly for flying into a snit over such a minor injury from a tiny creature, Amiri picks up the lantern. "Well fought. I guess. Maybe we overdid it?" she spits while panting for breath.
GenericPC
Seoni lifts the lantern and readies herself for what may come.
Sorry Amiri ;-) Does the lantern glow brighter after the death of the elk and fey? Edit: I suppose not, it was not empty.
"Where to now Harsk? You have a better sense of direction than I do. I suppose we just head to the closest location Ulisha mentioned?"
I take it we rest somewhere before starting the next quest and replenish spells?
Harsk, the Dwarven Ranger
Harsk nods at Seoni. "Yeah. Let's take a bit of a break before we head off to the next stop." Harsk quietly finishes off the elk, then washes his hands in the stream.
"Ulisha seems really interested in spider webbing. Or rather, the mixture spiders use while making webbing. We can head there next after a good night's rest. Unless, of course, you have a different destination in mind."

The direction in the journal take the party to Daggermark, which is reached after two days of uneventful travel.

At Daggermark two men approach the party; the younger, more clean cut of the two hands a sealed letter to Amiri. She opens the letter and quickly scans the documents. "It appears I am being reassigned. This…gentleman? Will replace me on the journey. Best of luck to you; I'm sure we'll travel together again." A wiry, wild eyed man leaps from the saddle and hands the reins to Amiri; who hops aboard the horse and gallops off with the messenger.
"Well met lads & lasses. I am called Hakon. Let me tell you what I've learned during my time here in Daggermark." He beckons the party closer. "Not bloody much!"

"It's not that hard to get information from the locals Hakon, although you might want to shave and maybe bath before you ask anything. I think they have mistaken you for a bear just out of hibernation. Let me tell you what I have learned..."
Edit
Because anyone can hire an assassin, everyone in Daggermark tends to be overly polite. Most leaders don’t last very long, as anyone taking exception to their policies can hire deadly force rather easily. I also learned that giant spiders are known for their venom, which is known to weaken their prey. Combining that with the information from Ulisha's journal it is obvious why there is demand for spider glands in Daggermark.
DM Kludde
Daggermark is one of the River Kingdoms. It is an exercise in anarchy, as anyone can hire assassins at affordable rates. These hires come from an Assassins’ Guild, which has found a particularly deadly partner in a Poisoners’ Guild that also operates out of Daggermark.

The map in the journal indicates a route that leads into the Shroudwood, to the southeast of Daggermark.
DM Kludde
The route takes the party into the woods, where a cobweb-infested path winds through the trees, ending in a clearing.
The webs are thicker in this clearing than they have been thus far, appearing newer and white, rather than the dingy gray of those seen earlier. These webs crisscross the canopy above, most strands meeting near the center to support a large globe of webbing the size of a large pumpkin.

Harsk was glad to get out of the city, even if they were visiting a spider's lair. At least it was clear when a spider would try to kill you to simply satisfy their hunger. Too many people talk with honey in one hand and a dagger in the other. He wonders what wiil Ulisha's hands offer as they approach the spider webs.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
"Hmm, something's not right-damn it!" Harsk hears the telltale scratch of a spider upon its webbing, and quickly shifts towards the giant spiders closing in on him and the group.

For the record: the spiders are surprising you: if you make the perception roll, you get to act in the surprise round
Surprise is standard or move only, so I'll make Hayato's mount attack a readied action.
Quinn readies an alchemist's fire, and Hayato's mount stomps and snorts. Reiko, Hakon and Kyra are taken off-guard by the spiders.
