Ilandro Schovassa
|
As the passer-by recounts his impressions of the estate's demeanour and atmosphere, Ilandro nods, keeping the pleasant smile on his face. He nods in agreement with with the man, flicking his gaze over to the building. "I guess you're right, it doesn't seem very friendly. Well, thank you for your time, kind sir, and a blessing of the Starsong on your travels today," he nods, bidding the passerby farewell.
Ilandro crosses the road again and joins his companions, relaying what the passer-by had said. "It might be that the odd actions of Skelg's men not wanting him to have help isn't their own doing. Magic, maybe? From the artefact that Captain Adril told us to find?"
Xaaven Lightfoot
|
Xaaven looks at Tsakolk when questioned about his opinion on the guards. "Apparently I was the only one to notice, but they had their surcoats on backwards. I doubt a self-respecting guard would do that knowingly. The only way we are getting a message to Skelg is by getting past the guards. We need to either sneak in or go in with force. If he is being held against his will, it is our duty to save him."
Tsakolk
|
"I hadn't noticed the surcoats, a curious detail...
Much as my heart yearns for force, you can't look for tracks if you've already trampled the path.
If your happy to try and sneak in to reach Skelg, Xaaven Lightfoot, and explain our position... You have my support.
But I wonder if we are missing another approach. The man is dying, what will he be able to tell us that we don't already know. The guards seem to be a lead we shouldn't ignore...
Perhaps splitting up would be a plan, if your good at moving quietly, go with Xaaven, the rest of us approach the guards again, at least we would create a diversion, we have already made it known that Pathfinders have been sent, we don't have the element of surprise anymore."
Daereon Phoenixstar
|
I am not sure that breaking in would be the most lawful thing to do however. Seeing if there is an alternate entrance is one thing, breaking in to some's home without due cause is another. states the half-elf.
| GM Shady |
I'm assuming you've moved outside the courtyard and back to the street. I think you're discussing three choices, whether a) to try to sneak round the side and break in, b) just have Xaaven try to do so or c) to confront the guards. I suggest you vote for one of those options, and I'll act accordingly. First 3 votes for any option wins; if it's choice b then obviously Xaaven has to vote for it.
Daereon Phoenixstar
|
B for me!
Xaaven Lightfoot
|
Xaaven listens to everyone's input on how to proceed. "While I understand the cover of darkness would make it easier for me to sneak around, it also makes it harder for me to see. I believe if Skelg is being held against his will, we have every right to try to get to him. I will try to climb into the window I saw, but it could be helpful if the rest of you could occupy the guards. If you hear me scream, please come quickly. Can someone hold onto my gear? I won't need most of it and it weighs me down." He takes off his backpack and puts down his longspear.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Daereon Phoenixstar
|
The half-elf will accompany the half-orc.
Ilandro Schovassa
|
Ilandro also accompanies Tsakolk and Daereon to encounter the guards again, his own spear being used as a walking stick.
| GM Shady |
I'm going to cover Xaaven's mini-adventure in spoilers - please don't peek, everyone else! Xaaven - please also respond in spoilers.
Again the guards regard the party with a hostile air. One of them speaks: "I thought we told you to get lost. Get out now, or things will get unpleasant for you."
Xaaven Lightfoot
|
Seeing the open room down the hall, Xaaven tries to hear anyone speaking.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Unless I hear something that would indicate that Skelg is not in the main room ...
He carefully moves down the hall to get a view of who is in the room.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Concentrating so hard on remaining quiet, he doesn't seem to be aware of his surroundings.
| GM Shady |
You can hear the crackling of the fire and a low moaning of someone else in the room, as though someone is in chronic pain, or a deep fever.
You don't need perception to check the room.
You creep down the corridor without the thin man quite noticing you. In the room is a bed, pushed perilously close to the fire. In the bed is a single large figure, who seems to be the source of the moaning. You can tell by the timbre of the voice that the figure is male. The thin man is watching the figure attentively; his face carries a deeply worried look. The room is incredibly hot, despite it already being a very warm day outside.
Xaaven Lightfoot
|
Xaaven carefully pulls his light mace out of his belt. He tries to get within striking distance of the servant.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Once in position, or if servant notices me ...
Not knowing if there are other guards around, he quietly speaks to the servant so that only the servant can hear him. "Don't move. I'm a Pathfinder sent by Adril Hestram to help your master, Skelg. Can you be trusted, unlike the guards outside?"
| GM Shady |
Fidgit Core Gossamar
|
For the party's info, Fidgit will go along with the direction of the party, but he would be itching to dust off his bow that has never known combat (outside of the practice range). Vote for confront, if it matters.
Leaning over and speaking in a voice audible only to Tsakolk, "These guards are getting on my nerves. Are we prepared to take this to next level?"
Fidgit gets more interested with the guard's threat. "Unpleasant? Would that be a threat of some kind? You may regret that action. It works both ways you know. Do you intend to dishonor yourselves AND the Ripper?"
Tsakolk
|
Tsakolk smiles a knowing smile and gives Fidgit a 'calm it down' hand gesture...
I like this lad, he's got fire in his blood. Fight smart though kid, only way to stay alive is to spend as much time as you can not fighting
"No-one here for a fight guardsman, just want to chat, you got a name guardsman? See the thing is we're all just 'the men' here aint we, got no say in things. I go back to my boss with 'they told us to go away' then there's no ale monies for me is there, but then you've got yourself the same problem see 'But boss they said they really needed to see you' ain't gonna save your job is it now guardsman? We've all gotta make a living right... It's cold in here isn't it? does wearing your surcoat like that help?"
all the while he's talking Tsakolk is staying away from the guards wandering around the courtyard, entirely relaxed.
Bluff: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
| GM Shady |
The guardsman to whom Tsakolk is talking glares back at the half-orc. "Only see two men here. And yes, come to think of it, it is a threat. Tostig, close the gate."
The other guardsman moves towards the gate and locks it.
You're now in initiative. One guard is standing behind the group, one in front. I'm assuming everyone except Xaaven is in the courtyard.
Fidgit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Tsakolk: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Hádanka: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Daereon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Ilandro: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Guards: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Unlucky guards. Everyone can act before the guards do.
Tsakolk
|
"Well now, ain't that a shame... Fidget, now's your chance, bit close for bow work I fear though. Only two men, we'll see about that shall we?"
Dropping the long spear to the ground with a clatter Tsakolk steps up to the man in front of him, loosing his hammer from his belt as he does so move action gripping the unadorned weapon in both hand he brings it up between the guards legs standard action power attack
Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 1 + 2 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 3 = 12
Xaaven Lightfoot
|
"I didn't mean to startle you, but I didn't know whose side you were on. Well met, Tyros, I am Xaaven, and I'm not alone. The rest of the group is outside distracting the guards. Who is this Bengeirr? Is he here in the house and is he responsible for Skelg's condition? Are there more guards other than the ones outside?" He says as he looks around the room for other entrances.
Ilandro Schovassa
|
Actually, Ilandro accompanied Tsakolk as well. He is just very quiet compared to the more intelligent members of the party ;)
"Don't kill them!" Ilandro cries out, his voice slightly higher than normal in pitch as he watches his companions attack the guards. "They may not be themselves." Delay action until after Tsakolk
He then steps up behind and to the side of Tsakolk as he spins his longspear around and attempts to attack the other man with the solid haft of the weapon, stabbing at the man's head with the blunt end. Standard Action: attack with non-lethal damage
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 4 = 2
Damage, non-lethal: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Well, that attack wasn't going to be happening, regardless of what I did..
Daereon Phoenixstar
|
The half-elf will concentrate and in that concentration will call upon Iomedae to put his foes and the foes of justice to sleep.
Hear me, Inheritor, and keep these infidels from harming the faithful as they impede and cause injustice to our cause/
Will Save 13
Focusing it on so that only they baddies are in the aoe.
| GM Shady |
@Daereon - how are you focusing it in this way? The enemies are in front of and behind you, the spell has a 10ft AoE, Tsakolk is in melee with one and Ilandro with the other.
Daereon Phoenixstar
|
Is there a map available? I looked and cannot seem to find one.
| GM Shady |
Is there a map available? I looked and cannot seem to find one.
I was proposing to put something on Roll20 when we got to anything any more complex than this, but I had previously posted the respective positions of the guards, and obviously the two PCs are now in melee. Even if you move your own position I don't see how you can avoid the other PCs. Do you want to hold off casting sleep and take a different action?
Xaaven Lightfoot
|
Xaaven laughs at seeing the fight. "And they said they didn't want to attack them. I guess that's one way to cause a distraction. Does this window open?" If it opens, I'll do so and take out my bow in case we start losing the fight. Otherwise, I'll just cheer them on from above.
He continues talking to Tyros as he watches the fight. "Where can we find Bengeirr? Do you know what he did to cause Skelg's condition? And what do we need to cure him?"
| GM Shady |
Should add, @Daereon and to your question - there's no map in the scenario for this part of the adventure.
Fidgit Core Gossamar
|
Fidgit eyes widen as he was not really expecting an altercation to insue. After realizing the the start of hostile action, he quickly noches an arrow and lets fly!
"Finally! This is what you left the boredom of the gate for. Time to make an impression on my new companions."
"Bad move Cochise! Feel free to lay down your arms, when you've had enough. We didn't come here to kill."
Deadly aim + point blank shot
longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
obviously too much smack talk on my part incurred the wrath of the dice god. lol
Daereon Phoenixstar
|
I will hold my action, if one does not go down I will bop with my weapon.
Morning Star attack 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Xaaven Lightfoot
|
"I understand. Well, I might as well go downstairs. I'll have to unlock the door to let them in anyway. Then we can see what Skelg has to tell us." He then casually heads downstairs.
| GM Shady |
Daereon swings his morningstar at the warrior previously struck by Tsakolk - the man collapses as his colleague looks on, grimly.
The remaining fighter swings his greataxe at Ilandro ...
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
... and hits him in the side, drawing blood.
Ilandro takes 4 damage.
The PCs are up. To be clear, Ilandro is in melee with the remaining guard; everyone else is between 5 and 30 feet away.
Tsakolk
|
Tsakolk, seeing the first man go down turns to face the remaining guard,
"well Tostig, no backup to call in? Looks like your on your own, any more inclined to talk now or do's we gotta mess you up too? How many guards inside and why ain't they coming out so we can hit them?"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
| GM Shady |
@Tsakolk: from the SRD - "Action: Using Intimidate to change an opponent's attitude requires 1 minute of conversation. Demoralizing an opponent is a standard action." ... I think what you were trying to do was the former (which would have allowed you to effectively persuade Tostig to do things he wasn't otherwise inclined to) so it's a full round and you used your turn.
Ilandro Schovassa
|
"Ouch, that hurt!" Ilandro cries out, taking a couple of quick steps backward and raising his longspear so that its tip points downwards. "We are only wanting to help your master, Skelg. Don't do this!"
5' step away from Tostig and then readying an action to attack him if he steps towards either Ilandro or an ally of Ilandro's.
Readied attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Edit: And of course the dice here betray my character too. This is eerily reminiscent of the first time I ever played PFS.. :S
Daereon Phoenixstar
|
The half-elf will attempt to strike with his morning star again.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Fidgit Core Gossamar
|
Embarrassed by his opening shot/fumble, Fidgit noches a 2nd arrow and takes aim.
longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
He let's out a flock of profanity as the arrow flies, headed no where near his intended target.
attack dice HATE me, but damage is killing it. Beware of rogue arrows everyone, they are lethal! lol
Xaaven Lightfoot
|
Xaaven considers just letting the fight continue outside, but hearing Ilandro cry out that he was hit changes his mind. He unlocks the door and flings it open dramatically, a big smile on his face.
"Ha! and you said you didn't want to attack them. Drop your weapon, guard, the ruse is up. I told you guys he wasn't with Skelg. His master is responsible for Skelg's condition and the demise of the real guards. Maybe next time you'll listen to me." He stands in the doorway with his light mace ready to smack the guard with it should he come near.
| GM Shady |
Tostig hears the halfling, and can see him standing the other side of the group. But he growls and launches an attack on Daereon ...
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
... wounding him as he had previously done Ilandro.
The guard has taken 6 damage, and Daereon takes 3. The PCs are up. Daereon and Illandro are in melee with the guard. Everyone else is capable of a ranged attack, but note you are firing into melee.
