Vanya Kaleth |
Vanya stands her ground against the ferocious mutt and counterattacks!
Attack roll 01: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 -> 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Attack roll 02: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 -> 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Erevan Stormstride |
"I've got this one!" Erevan shouts, taking the biggest threat for himself.
The swordsman lunges forward with his dueling blade, but he is acting very defensively as he sizes it up.
+1 Dueling Sword (adamantine) (fighting defensively, crane style, defensive parry): 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 2 = 121d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 (+4 dodge bonus to AC; AC is 25 through next turn)
Aryn Seavon |
Aryn was about to move forward when the humanoid form suddenly appears right in front of her. "Whoa!"
Figuring she should deal with this new threat before moving up to the dog, Aryn swings her greatsword at the humanoid form.
Cold Iron Greatsword, PA, Flanking: 1d20 + 9 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 1 + 2 = 15 Damage, PA: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 + 3 = 16
2nd turn:
After her attack Aryn uses the momentum of her swing to spin her greatsword around and attack again.
Cold Iron Greatsword, PA, Flanking: 1d20 + 9 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 1 + 2 = 25 Damage, PA: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 + 3 = 16
GM Upaynao |
Yikes. Bad Gm, no cookie. I just got back from our local pfs, I will be updating and amending further tomorrow. In the meantime, the knowledge you want to roll is planes.
GM Upaynao |
Vanya quickly slices the dog's throat. It dies with a whimper. Meanwhile, the pathfinders dealing with the new creature aren't doing nearly as well. Only Aryn's greatsword manages to find a chink in the air currents surrounding it, and even then the wound she inflicts isn't nearly as deep as she might have thought it would be.

Quinnik gets to the spot he wanted right as the others dispatched the pesky dog, but the new foe comes up and attacks the group so he switches targets....
CLB+DA+PBS+DA: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16...DMG: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Shungur Edge-Of-Sky |
Kn Planes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
"An air elemental," says Shungur, "you won't be able to flank it or critically wound it, and it will resist all forms of damage. And sleep, and stunning...most of my spells."
Shungur raises a hand and all the color drains out of the area around him. The starry sparkles in his eyes disappear, leaving void black pupils expanded to fill their orbs.
"Except perhaps this one..." A weaving, undulating wave of colors extends from his hand towards the elemental.
Hypnotic Pattern. DC17 Will or be Fascinated...if I make the HD roll...
HD: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8
if this is a Large one with 8 HD, then I just did...yeesh...

"Oh yeah? Well, WE TOTALLY KICKED ITS LITTLE DOG'S ASS THOUGH!"
Swift Action = Turtle Style!
Standard Action = Total defense, +4 dodge bonus to AC.
Move Action = Martial Flexibility (Combat Expertise), which I use for +2 dodge bonus to AC.
TOTAL AC BONUS: +6 dodge/AC 26
immediate grapple attempt after the first miss (Snapping Turtle Clutch, Combat Expertise): 1d20 + 13 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 13 - 2 - 2 = 23
Hopefully someone is flanking--hint hint.
Erevan Stormstride |
Erevan waits to see if Sungur's spell works, but then moves more aggressively to attack the creature.
+1 Dueling Sword (adamantine) (fighting defensively, crane style, defensive parry, flanking): 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 9 - 2 + 2 = 231d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 (+4 dodge bonus to AC; AC is 25 through next turn)

Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Just wanted to point out that Hypnotic pattern is an AoE with a 10 foot spread. I put the center of your spell under the + sign, at that intersection. However it's probably best if you don't leave decisions like these to your GM ;D
The air elemental looks at Shungur, perhaps attempting to determine the intent of his words, but a burst of light right next to him catches his attention. His full attention.
Let me know if any of you delay.

Vanya Kaleth |
Vanya gives the creature a wide berth and prepares to get in position with Pree...
It might as well have the "Immune to Vanya" trait, considering I built her for criticals, sneak attack and other roguish stuff based on those... its CR means that Vanya want be able to cause much damage anyway using kukris, so she took a double move to circle around the elemental without risking AoOs. Next round Vanya will flank with Pree
Shungur Edge-Of-Sky |
Actually, I meant the Pattern to go right on the Elemental...it needs to affect those that are within it, according to the spell descriptor. Now it's right on top of it...sorry about that!
Shungur maintains concentration on the spell. "If anyone has any suggestions as to how to dismiss or kill this creature of the air in a single blow, I welcome them--otherwise, I will be stuck holding it here," he says, keeping his eyes on the pattern and adjusting it with small hand motions.
Quinnik Stalkingwolf |
"I have no clue.... not really my area of expertise... I leave this sort of stuff to the learned ones...seems my last arrow did not damage to it so I think physical attacks are useless against it. Ca we ask it to go away?"
GM Upaynao |
Actually, I meant the Pattern to go right on the Elemental...it needs to affect those that are within it, according to the spell descriptor. Now it's right on top of it...sorry about that!
Ok, but before we resolve your action then (bolded is mine):
School illusion (pattern) [mind-affecting]; Level bard 2, sorcerer/wizard 2
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V (bard only), S, M (a stick of incense or a crystal rod); see text
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect colorful lights in a 10-ft.-radius spread
Duration Concentration + 2 rounds
Saving Throw Will negates; Spell Resistance yes
A twisting pattern of subtle, shifting colors weaves through the air, fascinating creatures within it. Roll 2d4 and add your caster level (maximum 10) to determine the total number of HD of creatures affected. Creatures with the fewest HD are affected first; and, among creatures with equal HD, those who are closest to the spell's point of origin are affected first. HD that are not sufficient to affect a creature are wasted. Affected creatures become fascinated by the pattern of colors. Sightless creatures are not affected.A wizard or sorcerer need not utter a sound to cast this spell, but a bard must perform as a verbal component.
So before I make either Aryn, Pree or Erevan make a will save against the spell, are you certain that you want your spell to be there?
Aryn Seavon |
"We just hit it harder!" Aryn announces as an invisible storm sweeps up her hair, and both her irises and hair turn white as snow.
She swings her greatsword again, but with more strength than before.
Cold Iron Greatsword, PA, Bloodrage, Flanking: 1d20 + 9 - 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 1 + 2 + 2 = 17 Damage, PA, Bloodrage: 2d6 + 6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 + 3 + 3 = 19
GM Upaynao |
Although I rather wwould keep the ball rolling, I'm going to give you time to figure out if you want to heal. There is a link as to the effects of the spell, so keep that in mind before anyone with a weapon drawn does anything. I will try to update tonight/tomorrow (see my post in the discussion).
Pree Gen |
Although I rather wwould keep the ball rolling, I'm going to give you time to figure out if you want to heal.
You and me both. ;)
Quinnik Stalkingwolf |
Quinnik is undamaged at the moment (unless I am mistaken) so he is good to drive on. But then that is just him being selfish so I will let the others chime in.
Erevan Stormstride |
Makes sense to me that we get everyone healed, everyone in flanking position, then attack it all at once.
GM Upaynao |
So does that mean that Shungur is willing to move up to Vanya without anyone else moving or hefting weapons, drop his concentration on the next round and heal? Or can someone else umd a wand of ClW? I will need to know how many rounds are spent in this delay, if Shungur is dropping the concentration on his spell, and if anyone does anything "threatening"in the middle of all this.
Pree Gen |
Just remember...
"An air elemental," says Shungur, "you won't be able to flank it or critically wound it, and it will resist all forms of damage. And sleep, and stunning...most of my spells."
Erevan Stormstride |
Ah, right. Still, not the worst idea to heal up first, then attack it all at once. I'm ready when everyone else is.
GM Upaynao |
It looks like Shungur is the only one who could heal if he decided to. So I am going to give him until late tonight to let us know what he's going to do. After that, we'll get back on track.
Shungur Edge-Of-Sky |
ARYN PLEEZ TO HEAL
Aryn is the only other caster/wandslinger, I think.
"Once I drop concentration, we have 12 seconds to attack, or heal," says Shungur, a drop of sweat appearing on his brow. He holds his position.
GM Upaynao |
Ok, waiting on Aryn's input then. The next few days are going to be a mess for me, but I promise you I'll try and keep things in play. This is definitely one of those moments that I'm not sure how to properly deal with in this medium and not rob you of your agency.
GM Upaynao |
That's a negatory Houston. ;) If Aryn has not been able to post because of her player's illness, I will move things along according to her last post. I will accept her player just posting ooc'ly her intent and I'll run with that. Hope you get better! Also, feedback from you guys is important! Let me know if you feel I would benefit from doing things differently.
GM Upaynao |
Alright, moving things along.
The party holds for Vanya to move on in, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible.
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
1d20 + 23 ⇒ (8) + 23 = 31
The rogue slips into position, and the creature does not seem to react, seemingly fascinated with the endless patterns. Nodding at each other to show they are ready, the pathfinders strike as one! Aryn begins, trying to strike at the creature, but misses!
You are all in position to hit it; initiative has been reorganized to reflect your intent. Also, I checked, but fascinate does not seem to cause any other conditions (like flat footed, which I was kinda hoping for).

quinnik moves to his left for a better shot and then looks around...

Vanya Kaleth |
Coorinating her moves with Pree Vanya slashes at the hulking creature with her kukris...

Perception check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
No need to add the sneak attack damage since the elemental is immune to it
Erevan Stormstride |
Once they give the signal, Erevan strikes out at the creature, but it seems elusive and difficult to strike.
+1 Dueling Sword (adamantine) (fighting defensively, crane style, defensive parry): 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 2 = 91d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 (+4 dodge bonus to AC; AC is 25 through next turn)

If your character name is bolded, do not worry about waiting for your turn. Just post, I will resolve things in order. Probably something I should make a note of in my description, one of the many things I need to do as soon as Real Life (TM) gives me the opportunity. Also, should those players whose characters are bolded not have posted an action by tomorrow 7:00 PM EST, I put them on delay like I did with Aryn earlier.
Quinnik Stalkingwolf |
CLB+DA+PBS+DA: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24...DMG: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Quinnik takes a step to his left to avoid hitting any of his companions and lets loose an arrow...
Pree Gen |
Maintain the same stuff as last round. TOTAL AC BONUS: +6 dodge/AC 26
GM Upaynao |
The air elemental roar as the arrow wedges itself deep in his hide. Locking eyes with his target, it realizes the implications of being surrounded. With a huff, it tries to remedy that.

Blade and arrow lodge themselves in the creature's core, as Aryn and Pree wait for a more auspicious moment to strike. Shungur calls upon the spirits to aid his companion, but the air elemental seizes the opening and strikes!
