Knowledge Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
I've read about these. It's a Slime Mold. It can engulf those who are unwary and it can spread a nasty disease. Don't touch it with your skin.
Ezekias Silverthane |
Eazy remembers a little more from his voluminous reading.
Oh, yeah! And fire doesn't work, but alkali hurts them.
Kaa. |
Kaa draws his flask of acid and throws it at the creature.
Cover, Inspire, Range Penalty vs Touch: 1d20 + 2 - 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 4 - 2 + 1 = 2

Ezekias Silverthane |
Eazy hurls a bullet at the malodorous membrane.
Sling, Inspired: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11 Damage, Inspired: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Vigny Halgarsdottir |
"Well, I'm not much with throwing stuff, and I also don't have a good view of it. It doesn't look like it's much of a sprinter though. How about I hand the acid and alkali off to those of you up front and we use this stuff up before doing anything else?
Vigney offers up her flasks.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Kaa throws an Acid Flask at the Slime Mold. 1d8 ⇒ 2
The flask hits the wall next to the Ooze dealing a point of Acid splash damage.
Ezekias slings a bullet, but in his attempt to not hit any of his comrads, the bullet skips off the wall just shy of the creature.

@Luna: You can go there, you're just squeezing is all.
Luna rains down ice meteors onto the creature. Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 10
The creature is effected by the damage.
It starts moving forward Squeezing through the tunnel and attacks Brud.

Sorry to hold thing up, but looking at the map I don't see any way for Vigny to do much. Is it possible for her to use the alkali flask from her current position without massive penalties on her throw? If nobody is going to take the flasks she's offered I may just have to pass on this round.
Ezekias Silverthane |
Brud could use some Resistance if he's going to be making lots of Fort saves. I'd prefer not to find out what happens when he fails one. You can also start moving around to the South, which admittedly is Eazy's plan for next round.
Vigny Halgarsdottir |
Vigny sees Brud take a severe blow from the slime mold, enough to render him unconscious she believes. She works her way forward through the line and uses Janira's wand to apply a cure spell to him.
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Brud Tuskbreaker |
I have endurance and diehard, so I am still up, even if in severe pain
crit confirms, roll damage please :(
fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Brud gets slammed in the chest with such force any normal man would be bleeding on the ground. Brud grunts, and takes the mighty blow, and returns with a blow of his own.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Assuming that doesn't make it, take an AOO.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Ezekias Silverthane |
Eazy moves up past Volyana and lobs a blob of acid over Brud's shoulders at the ooze.
Acid Splash, vs Touch, into melee: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 4 = 14 Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Kaa attempts to move past the ooze. His first attacks stops him dead in his tracks.
Slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
The second attempt makes it past.

With ooze-like reflexes, the slime mold moves out of the way of the cold meteors.
It moves to engulf 1-Brud, 2-Kaa: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Brud: You may make a Reflex save or Attack of Opportunity. If you make an AoO, you forfit your Reflex save and you will be engulfed.
Kaa: You get an AoO
You also need to make a FORT Save vs. Disease
You also gain the Pinned Condition.

fort if needed? If it dies do I still need to save?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Kaa and Brud strike the ooze as it attempts to engulf Brud, and their combined effort slays the creature.
The sounds of battle echoing through the cave are getting closer as Janira is still heard giving her inspirational speech, though she seems to sound a bit more tired than you've heard her in the past.
Ezekias Silverthane |
Janira sounds like she needs our help. Let us make haste.
Eazy sets off toward the sounds of battle, unless prevented.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
You run 40' down the cavern to the opening ahead:
The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.
The area is lit by the full moon above, which provides plenty of light for even humans to see in the open area. The water in the stream is moving at a decent speed, so would require a Swim check to cross. There is a 3' wide tree trunk providing a make-shift bridge to cross the stream. Doing so takes an Acrobatics check, DC 7 to move across at half speed. The slope to the West is 20' higher than the area below (a good spot for any ranged attacks; probably with the exception of spells with a range of Close).
About 100' from the cave entrance is Janira locked in battle with the relentless minotaur. Janira is obviously hurt and tired, but still full of resilience as she shouts at the beast, "You vile beast! I know not what drives your black heart, but I shall not fail in my duty. I shall see you driven from this forest, back to the hills from whence you came!”

Eazy on his turn runs at full speed and attempts to jump across the river at its smallest point. On the map it looks like the narrowest gap is less than 5 ft, but I understand if mechanically it's all 10 ft wide.
Full round run for 120 ft movement, with a jump over the river.
Acrobatics (Long Jump): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Vigny Halgarsdottir |
Vigny begins to run toward the fallen log bridge.
Double move on a speed of 20'. I think I've got the distance covered correct, but moving diagonally throws me off sometimes.
Ezekias Silverthane |
@Vigny if you run you can get 3x your movement (4x if you weren't lugging around such heavy armor). What I do sometimes for non-orthogonal movement is draw a vertical line for my full movement allotment, then swing it up in an arc to where I want to go, keeping the length constant. Counting out those 7.5ft increments befuddles me too.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Still waiting on Luna, but I'll do Janira's turn
Janira, weary and fatigued, continues to inspire courage. (+1 Attack/+1 Damage). She takes a 5' Step back and tries to disarm the battle axe from the Minotaur with her whip.
Disarm: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 - 1 = 8
She fails to do so, then pulls out a tanglefoot bag from her belt.
Ezekias runs and jumps over the river. 2 things: 1. I'm not sure you're allowed to run and jump, I'll allow it this time to move things along. I'll do some more research and see if I can find a definitive answer. 2. You can only run in a straight line. Go ahead and modify your move accordingly.
Vigny runs to the edge of the water, toward the makeshift bridge.
Brud double moves closer. Go ahead and move. I'm not sure if you want to move toward the bridge or in a more direct line to the minotaur.

Finally, you can use the Acrobatics skill to make jumps or to soften a fall. The base DC to make a jump is equal to the distance to be crossed (if horizontal) or four times the height to be reached (if vertical). These DCs double if you do not have at least 10 feet of space to get a running start.
Adjusted Eazy's run to end where he wanted. He was pretty confident in jumping 10 feet so given the constraint of moving in a straight line only I think he would have chanced it at a wider part of the river to end up closer to the minotaur.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Luna will be holding action.
The minotaur, snarling at the halfling, takes a 5' step toward Janira and swings his battleaxe.
Battleaxe: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Really?
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 4) + 4 = 14
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Vengeance shall be mine! Come and face someone closer to your own size, brute.
Eazy's Wisdom is 9. It's gonna have to be a pretty compelling argument to save his life tear him away.
Brud Tuskbreaker |
Brud, can only watch in horror, as the small little Janira is utterly destroyed with a single blow.
Damnit! If we had fought this ugly beast back at the cave, we could have prevented this!
Brud, tries to cross the log, as fast as he can in hopes to prevent Eazy meeting a similar fate.

Ezekias Silverthane |
Eazy prepares his blade and his Magick! and waits for the lumbering brute to come near.
Swift Action to engage Arcane Pool enhancement on rapier. Hold Action on Spell Combat until Minotaur is in range (5ft step as needed).
Rapier, Spell Combat: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 2 = 5 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

As I understand it, since the Touch Attack spell didn't hit, I am Holding The Charge and can try again next time (assuming my torso remains attached to my pelvis at that time).
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Kaa double moves toward the action.
Ezekias readies an action to take a 5' step and attack when the Minotaur gets in range.
Brud makes his way across the log and taunts at the minotaur.
