Primarily to show Shepherd Jhod the site and make it safe. He seems keen on rededicating the place to Erastil and making it a functioning holy site again. He's been so fixated on dreams he's been having about the place that he refused all of the party's offers to make him a member of Avalon's governing body--something that you have to sort out before you start kingdom-building.

The rest of the dungeon appears to be cleared out (aside from the wizard Eldiocesan and his Magnificent Mansion and Tamris and Rain), Jhod doesn't seem to notice the subtle 'advisor to Avalon' bit just yet. For more info on Jhod's reluctance to take a seat on the ruling council see hereabouts.

Also, here's the current status on that ruling council.

Also, of note you have a small army of workmen in a big wagon train from Brevoy somewhere about, and Akiros and the men at the Stag Lord's old fort need to be relieve/fed/sheltered before winter comes on in a couple of months.

One of us will have to look into that in moment to see where things stand there. Alas, I've got to get to work just now. ;)

Hey! That's my line! ;)

So here's a possible list of things to do right now:
1) find a High Priest for Avalon.

That's the whole list. You can try building a kingdom and setting up the capitol without all of your ruling positions filled if you like, but it does make thing harder. You do have a request in for a Treasurer from the Church of Abadar, God of Banks and Cities, in Brevoy, that you are waiting to hear back on. Maybe you could swap whomever they send out for the High Priest role and find a Treasurer, or do something else. You know people in the region. Ask "Chick" and Wilbur to be your Treasurer and High Priest. You can always rearrange things later. The choices are yours.

Ultimate Campaign wrote:

The High Priest tends to the kingdom’s religious needs and guides its growth. If the kingdom has an official religion, the High Priest may also be the highest-ranking member of that religion in the kingdom, and has similar responsibilities over the lesser priests of that faith to those the Grand Diplomat has over the kingdom’s ambassadors and diplomats. If the kingdom has no official religion, the High Priest may be a representative of the most popular religion in the kingdom or a neutral party representing the interests of all religions allowed by the kingdom.

Benefit: Add your Charisma modifier or Wisdom modifier to Stability.

Vacancy Penalty: Stability and Loyalty decrease by 2. During the Upkeep phase, Unrest increases by 1.

The Treasurer monitors the state of the kingdom’s Treasury and citizens’ confidence in the value of their money and investigates whether any businesses are taking unfair advantage of the system. The Treasurer is in charge of the tax collectors and tracks debts and credits with guilds and other governments.

Benefit: Add your Intelligence modifier or Wisdom modifier to Economy.

Vacancy Penalty: Economy decreases by 4. The kingdom cannot collect taxes—during the Edict phase, when you would normally collect taxes, the kingdom does not collect taxes at all and the taxation level is considered “none.”

According to our chart, Serena is currently slotted in as the Grand Diplomat. You can swap out for another role if you like, but then you will need a new Grand Diplomat or just take the penalties for not having one.

Ultimate Campaign wrote:

With a vote of two to nil, The party mounts up.

Lemme know if folks wanted to wrap up anything with Eldiocesan, Tamris, or Rain, or anything else.

So you have a couple of obvious options. You can head straight back to the outpost and wagon train of workmen from Brevoy, or you can swing by Samuel Renault's place first (his folk were packing food for you to take down to the ruined fort). Either way it's not a long journey from the site back to the outpost once you leave the deep forest as the terrain outside is mostly flat in that direction. See the map. The yellowed bits are places you have explored and mapped out. Note that the Thorn River cuts along your path, but you do know about the ford (formerly the place the Stag Lord's lieutenant, Kressle was holding Alia and Scarlet prisoner) 12 miles or so to your immediate east. On the map it is marked as the Thorn River Camp /Ancient Roadway/Ford.

And of course, travel time could be made quicker with your party skald's accompaniment.

What you know about the Thorn River wrote:

The Thorn River starts in the northernmost portions of the Narlmarch forest and lazily winds through the trees making its way finally to the Kamelands where it joins the Shrike River coming out of the east and forms a single feed in to the lake called the Tuskwater.

The banks of the Thorn River are thick with stinging nettles and tangles of sharp brambles. The river itself is relatively narrow, averaging 60 feet in width and 30 feet deep.

There is at least one fordable location, that the party knows about within the boundary of the forest. It is a low spot that allows easy crossing for man, beast, and even wagons.

It's about noon when the group sets off from the caves under the shadow of the stone elk effigy. Shepherd Kavken can't help but look back at the hillside several times until the forest finally claims it.
Jhod sighs smiles to himself and rides on.
Steering clear of the deep woods they cross the ford to the east and turn north before the sunlight begins to fail them.

The tall trees, now in the full bloom of summer, trap the heat of the day and make for a slightly stuffy, closed-in journey compared to the cool, dry and dusty dungeon they just left.

Perception checks (DC 20):
About a hundred feet to the west across a steep but narrow fold in the ground you notice a rustling of foliage and a moment later out pads a big, dark-brown, owlbear on all fours from between the trees.

Sure. He's still in his Eldiocesan's Magnificent Magical Mansion. Was there anything specifically that Illthir wanted to point out? Eldiocesan and Tamris acknowledged coming into the dungeon via that northern entrance (Room 1) so they would have seen it.

Also, if Illthir does use skaldic magic to propel the party along the path quicker they can get a bit further than what's currently depicted on the Regional Map.

I do not have a map grid big enough to encompass the distance between you and the owlbear. It's about 200' (61m) away as the arrow flies. The open space because of the drop off is what is allowing you to see it clearly, otherwise there would be too much ground foliage in the way.

"Yeah ok, seems wise, we'll just have to be a bit careful, i'd not like a psycho Owlbear to go rampaging through the camp."

Lol they made that into a game... nerds..

When they get tot he clearing Zokon will start setting up a fire, a bit awkwardly just cos he doesn't want people to think he's to good at this outdoorsy stuff.

The party makes camp in the large open field among the wild moon radishes.

Out from under the trees, the stars twinkle overhead in the clear night sky.

"Agreed. 'Owlbear' is not how I want to wake up." Illthir nods and start getting her things in order. It was good that they had Zokon with them, so there were someone to deal with these outdoorsy things.

Once there's fire and a camp and all such things Illthir heats up some rations in her pot. Generously, it could be called grub. Realistically it was closer to gruel. "We ought to hire a royal cook, while we're at it." she notes, renewing her determination to make sure future Illthir can eat something tastier on her adventures.

"Ah." That did make sense. Magical auras surely didn't linger for weeks only to dissipate before your eyes. Would have been way too dramatic for the mundane reality.

"I'll admit; I never thought I'd be flirted with by someone blowing smoke. Or that I'd be impressed..." she watches the smokey pairs adventure. Damn. Maybe she'd have to take up smoking actually. If only she didn't need to breathe the pesky air.

"If worry could mar me I'd be kidnapping people for my coven by now. *Heh*" she pauses and shifts from feet to feet. "But it's my tale and I'd like to see how it ends, be it triumph or ruin. For now, it seems our paths may split. I wish you the best of luck - and that you won't need it."

"Hrumph. As you will." without another word Eldiocesan returns to his reading and pipe smoking.

As Illthir leaves she passes Tamris and Rain in the wizards foyer. Tamris wishes her and her friends farewell and good luck.

It's summer in a clearing surrounded by old growth forest so there are some sounds.
