A slightly steampunked up Rise of the Runelords. I've stayed close to the text for this first part, but plan to move away from it as we progress....

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

"Watch yourself, men," Dean calls out. "I'd lay a wager the bad fairy is still here, despite the fact that we can't see her. She didn't seem too happy with the results of her efforts, though, which may bode well for us." He takes a few quick strides forward ending next to the pool, which should put him within range and fires his hand crossbow at the spawn.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

"Well that's not a stew I'd like to try. Time to send it bake to the chef! And I use the term loosely."

Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Damage 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 5) + 9 = 19
.
If the creature doesn't come to him, Emmanuel will charge for a +2 to hit.

New Map, a bit easier to place yourselves, if/when.

A-F along the top, 1-10 down the side....

Dean is in B4 on the new map

I think we are waiting for actions for Luc and Reynard now are we not?

I should have time to DMPC them later today if necessary.

Male Human Ranger 2

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Reynard's eyes narrow as he takes in the creature's expression.
Liastening closely for the sound of flapping wings, Reynard fires where he believes the quasit to be.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
1d10 ⇒ 3
miss chance1d100 ⇒ 97

Witz and Dean both shoot true, with gas tanks hissing, and bolts hitting home into the spawn. The Spawn moves forward in a rage at it's closest target, Emannual, it's limbs and bite flail, but it fails to do any damage. Emanual swings his sword, and breaks the creature clean in two, it lies in a heap on the floor.

Luc and Reynard fire bolts off into thin air, and elicit a high pitched screech in response.

A small silver dagger flies out (DC20 perception check to see which sq it came from) at Luc, hitting him (and doing 2 points of damage), and then returning to where it came from...

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Dean was focussing too much on the visible threat to do more than flinch when the dagger appeared out of nowhere. "Well struck, Emanuel," he calls out. "I trust we won't be finding that meat on the menu in your restaurant however." Keeping his guard up, he holds his dueling cape at the ready to fend off attacks from the invisible fairy. Total defense, AC 21

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

"There!" the aspiring celebrity chef shouts as he runs across the room, dropping his sword and trying to tackle the flying beastie.

Grapple 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Miss chance high 1d100 ⇒ 40

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Wits sees the small imp appear and disappear, but his eyes keep locked on the spot where it went. Quickly reloading his crossbow, he fires!

Attack! 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 65

Sorry for the delay folks, yet another hectic week!

Spoiler:
="Perception DC20"]The dagger came from E6

Emanuel throws himself at the square he believes the thing to be in, but as his hand brushes against it, it slips through his grasp. While Dean moves to protect himself, Wits' shot has no visible (or audible) effect...

Male Human Ranger 2

"Emmanuel! Do you have flour?"

"No flour today. I'm afraid we'll just have to roast this imp with au jus!"

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

Dean begins the incantation that will grant his eyes arcane sight, fixing his gaze in the direction Emanuel had lunged. casting detect magic

Male Human Ranger 2

Focusing on the direction Emmanuel ran in Reynard scans the ground looking for drops of blood from the self inflicted cut.

Track1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Sorry for the delay, hectic couple of weeks....

Round 3.
Init
Witz: 19 (crossbow shot)
Dean: 17 (Full Defence/ begin casting)
Luc: 8 (Not acted yet)
Emanual: 8(lower dex)
Reynard: 7 (still acting)
Quasit: 5

Could someone act for Luc?

Reynard Varvanyuk wrote:

Track1d20+6

You see a few splatters of green ichor, that could have come from the thing, but they are not in the region that the others are targeting...

"Why you slippery little devil!" Emanuel attempts to grab the imp once again.

Grapple 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Percentile going for high again 1d100 ⇒ 29 poop poop poop!

Male Human Ranger 2

Looking above the area where the drops seem to end, Reynard holds his shot waiting for the moment the creature would appear.

M Half-Elf Rogue 2

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

Luc fires at the imp with his crossbow, aiming at the same general spot as Wits. "I must say, Luc is not much for fighting what can't be seen, mon amis."

Light crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

No point in rolling percentage chance with that roll.

Visibly frustrated at the truth of his words as his bolt hits the stone wall cleanly.

I'm taking that as readying an action Reynard? If so, make the attack/spot/damage/miss chance rolls now

Emanuel, and Luc, both have less luck than they would like with their attacks, and a low cackling moves faintly across the room, a dagger flashes out, and strikes Emanuel (for 1 point of damage).

Perception DC 25:
This attack appeared to come from C4

Next round....

M Half-Elf Rogue 2

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

Luc reloads his crossbow move and attempts, again, to hit the unseen creature.

Lgt. Crossbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Percentage chance: (Will go for above 50. (Unless of course you have your own preference.) 1d100 ⇒ 88

Lgt. Crossbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Obviously I failed my perception, so these rolls may be for naught anyway. Went ahead and rolled for it anyhow.

Given the amount of trouble that everyone is having in hitting the invisbile imp, Wits will wander closer to the strange well and see if he make any sense of it.

Would a craft:Alchemy check be of use? 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

"You've read my mind little man. Let's have a look." Emanual moves to pick up his sword, then to join Witz by the well.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

Dean feels the creeping sensation up the back of his neck which indicates the presence of arcane energy, but he ignores it and goes on intently concentrating. Second round: number of magic auras and power of the most potent

Amending Emanuel's action...

Noticing that Ninian's eyes are glowing blue and that he seems to be concentrating on something, Emanuel draws his heavy mace and moves to protect him.

Aid Another Defense 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Dean gets an extra +2 to his AC.

Male Human Ranger 2

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
1d10 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
1d100 ⇒ 5

Wow!

Reynar's shot is nowhere close to the malicious little quasit.

Dean:
There is apparently only one magical aura, and it comes from over the large pool (D4), it has a moderate transmutation quality to it...

Witz:
No, but a knowledge History, or Knowledge Archana, could. Using your roll from above I'd say.... The well is covered in runes, like others you've seen in this place that bring back studies that pertained to Ancient Thassilion. This could be something they referred to as a runewell although it isn't as big as you would expect....

Bolts fly everywhere, but none stop and disappear in mid air, so it's a good bet that none hit anything....

From over the blue pool, a low muttering can be heard in a language that none of you recognise. Nothing happens, but those of you who have studied the arcane arts can tell that a spell is being cast....

Next round. Oh, and could you please provide co-ordinates with your post, I'll try to update the map then. I'm getting a little confused!

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

Dean should still be in B4; he hasn't moved since then.

B1

Perception to pinpoint muttering: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

"Okay, my little friend. Maybe I can guess right this time." He says as he reloads his crossbow, takes aim at nothing, and fires in the area of the muttering.

Lgt. Crossbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Percentage, 50 and above again: 1d100 ⇒ 60

Luc's bolt flies true over the pool, and winks out of existence. At the same time, a loud and piercing shriek echos around the room, the chanting also stops.

Male Human Ranger 2

Remembering what previously emerged from the pool, Reynard keeps his crossbow trained on the odd waters.

readied action to shoot if another of the things shows up

"Good show! Keep that up!" Turning to Manny or anyone else nearby: "I've heard of things like this. They're called runewells, but this seems to be a particularly small one. I wonder if the beast's blood triggers it?"

Round 3 of concentrating on detect magic

DM:
Is the aura still over the pool?

Spoiler:

Indeed it is, young Dean, indeed it is.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

"It's still there," Dean warns the others, pointing to the air above the large pool, "or something is. I don't suppose anyone has a net?"

continuing to concentrate on detect magic to see if it moves

M Half-Elf Rogue 2

"We should only be so lucky." Luc responds to Dean's affirming that the creature still lives.

Luc, Reyanard and Dean have acted...Anyone else?

MAP

Wits is good. He's just hanging out, pondering the magic of the pool and its implications.

"You'll not get away that easy!" Emanuel screams as he leaps across the pool trying to tackle the invisible fiend.

Grapple 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Grapple 1d20+6
Percentile high 1d100 sumb*%##!

Emanual jumps, and belly flops into the ice-cold water of the pool.

As he raises his head above water, he feels claws, and teeth sink into his flesh, take 2 points of damage and make me a DC16 Fort save or take 1d2 points of Dex damage.

Next Round...

Fort 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

"Oh my! Somethings in here!"

How deep is the water. I'll decide my next action based on it.

Male Human Ranger 2

Can I see what's attacking

M Half-Elf Rogue 2

What is that overgrown brute doing? This is no time for a swim! Luc thinks to himself as he reloads his crossbow, with hope that he can hit "nothing" again.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

"I think Luc has a bead on you, mon ami diabolique. Let's see if he can make you suffer a little more." He again aims at nothing and fires.

Lgt. Crossbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Percentage staying with high: 1d100 ⇒ 79

Crit roll

Lgt. Crossbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Edit: BOOM! Pretty freaking awesome! Unfortunately I couldn't crit. Dangit! Oh well, hitting is hard enough. And sadly, this thing is probably immune to most of my damage anyway. Oh well, it's still cool! :)

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

Dean lets loose a surprised curse as his erstwhile bodyguard suddenly flies past him and splashes him with cold water. Desperately, he keeps his concentration, though, knowing he's the only one who can see the magical aura. He hopes that the rest of the group can fish Emanuel out -- and that what he's watching isn't just a decoy as the invisible imp flits up behind him ready to strike.

Watching to see if the aura makes any move. If it doesn't, he's going to assume that the creature is dead/unconscious but still levitating and turn his attention to the pool of water.

Reynard Varvanyuk wrote:

Sorry, missed that, yes, for now you can see it....

Male Human Ranger 2

Reynard's hunter's instincts blot out all distractions as he sights his prey, waiting for the perfect moment to fire.
