Sandin Graysmire |
Someone or something created this, by the looks of it a very long time ago. This is no simple magic. Someone had great interest in this family, your family it seems. What this is doing here I cannot say. Perhaps you ought to take it with you, it is your family after all. The divination required to produce this, must've been no less powerful than a wish. Why was some power that interested in your family? Not a question you have to answer, just one you might think about.
He glances back over at the book in the locked case. This is not something you can open is it?
Gabrielle d'Apcher |
"I imagine that if we were to return to Golarion without an answer, the question will haunt me for the rest of my life," she says, adjusting the position of her glasses to get a closer look at the glass case and the lock which holds it shut.
"It may be a rather grand request, but will you promise me that we will not return before we have learned the truth?" she asks.
GM: Perception 45, Disable Device +39... does she think she can fulfill Sandin's request?
Elros of Amrothe' |
Looking around the hallway, Elros spotted his companions through a door and went in.
Frowning pensively as he leaned against the wall he said; "She said that there are two ways down to the lower levels:
"First, the General's Statue hides a stairway.
"Second, a portal in the library, under the polar bear skin that lies before the fireplace.
"IF she wasn't lying, that could be very helpful."
Gabrielle d'Apcher |
Exactly! Why is it the lady who has to give and give, only to be forced to ask to be rescued from terrible danger?
Now, what's even more interesting is the question of just what it is about Lady Gabrielle that made Sandin think she knew the first thing about the Disable Device skill, hehehe...
Gabrielle d'Apcher |
Umm... that's one of the lesser-known functions of the Escape Artist skill? Coupled with an Aristocrat class feature, that's it!
"Nixie, did any of your connections have any inkling of this thought, that my family was somehow tied to Dominax Annuli?" she asks as Sandin considers the question.
Nixie |
Gabbs, we've been friends for a long time. But the Aspis has strict rules on the matter of sharing consortium secrets. I can't say much, okay? Please don't put me in a tight spot! she leans in and whispers. But I've heard of some of the occultic leaning members of the societies scientific and arcane circles talk about something like this. They call it "Patronage". But I understand it's usually very expensive. A contract for the watchful eye of a powerful demon or devil. Nixie looks over the family tree with awe. But such a contract that stretches across so many generations must certainly have cost your ancestors dearly.
Gabrielle d'Apcher |
A look of dread washes over the Lady's face. "The thought of my family having agreed to be connected with a demon does not comfort me," she replies, before considering a thought. "Is the Professor an expert on the topic of patronage?" she wonders aloud.
Nixie |
the Professor? Nah, I don't think so. He's an expert on the Moonscar. Although, I don't think he was ready for the fact that it was full of succubi. Does your family get along? I mean, according to the tree you are an only child. Means your the heiress, right? Nixie snaps her fingers, Jealous. Bet you get all the propositions from the best suitors at the Masquerades in Magnimar!
Gabrielle d'Apcher |
"You would be correct if the best suitors were all over the age of fifty," she says, with a hint of humor in her voice. "My brother Gerard appears to have escaped the tree's notice. The gentlemen you are imagining tend to prefer approaching young ladies without older siblings."
Nixie |
It's true...no one can shoot lightening arrows like Elros. Tell me, Elros my old friend: I watched you - how is it that we walked through the annuls of Domanix Annuli and you never once appeared to become distracted with the goings on here? I couldn't resist taking this souvenir. Nixie reaches for her pocket...
Elros of Amrothe' |
Elros quickly raised his hand.
"No, no, you don't need to show me."
"But to answer your question, this entire structure is meant to ensnare the unwary. Whether you like the hook or not, damnation lies that way if you are caught.
"For me, damnation is to be made to work for the demons, like the General was."
Knut das Auge |
With a nod Knut adds"Do not be blended by this splendor. For the immortal gold and trinkets has no true value. They only care for power and to reach their goals. It is always the sweetest victory if you manage to let the enemy defeat themselves. Thats what they try here. It means nothing to them, but you think you are in heaven. But once you enter.... you can never leave!
Nixie |
"No, no, you don't need to show me."
whew, you save me from having get CREATIVE. I actually didn't know what Nix was going to pull out any more than you did, haha!
Nixie nods at Knut and Elros' deep understanding of the situation. You guys are right. We should kick their behinds before we leave too. Pulling the "trinket" from her pocket she thinks for a moment. And then tosses it into the fire. A mighty Polar Bear skin lies there on the floor before the fireplace.
Sandin Graysmire |
After giving the question much thought...
I can not promise that we will not return before we have learned the truth, because the truth may not reside here. What I can promise is that I will help you in your endeavor. Which of course may require much research. Here and elsewhere.
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (14) + 33 = 47
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (11) + 33 = 44
As for how I knew of her skills with a lock? A lady with her skills for observation is sure to pick up a trick or two.
Gabrielle d'Apcher |
"I thank you dearly, Sandin," she says, looking up from the glass. "If there is truth to be discovered here, it is comforting to know that you will not whisk us away prematurely."
"As for the book, the lock seems rather delicate. I do not know whether opening it can be accomplished without the proper key, and any attempt will likely alert our apparent ally Euphrixia," she explains.
Sandin Graysmire |
I see, well perhaps I will have to seek her permission. Sandin says with an air of disappointment.
Gabrielle d'Apcher |
"Once we provide her with her heart's desire, Sandin, I will be quite eager to negotiate on your behalf," she says, before speaking to the group. "Our path beckons," she adds, gesturing with her fan in the direction of the fireplace.
Nixie |
Nixies pulls the polar bear fur - whose head she can barely lift - aside. Below it is a circular glowing ring of magical runes. When you step on them you are transported down into the lunar crust. When you emerge you find yourself is a much, much more unpleasant place.
MAP UPDATED
You are in a natural stone caverns ranging in width from 10 to 30 feet The cavern floors are natural stone, while those in the carved chambers are smooth stone floors.
A light breeze echoes around the caverns, the rocks of which are riddled with deep pores. The sound of air passing through them creates the illusion of a nearby invisible creature sighing sensually. All chambers are, unless otherwise noted, completely dark, as Izmiara's
servants are all capable of seeing in the pitch black.
Gabi reads from her pamphlet:
THE RING OF AGONY
The first level below Domanix Annuli, called the Ring of Agony, is a series of chambers in which pain, torment, and otherwise uncomfortable imprisonment break the minds and bodies of the Insatiable Queen's subjects, leaving them supple clay for her minions to mold to fulfill her whims.
Sandin Graysmire |
Sandin peers back into the darkness. Perception Dark Vision 60: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (19) + 25 = 44 Hoping it does not bite.
Elros of Amrothe' |
Elros drew an arrow in the darkness.
"Let there be... Light." He said, casting Light on the tip of the arrow with an exertion of will and holding it up.
He concentrated on Detect Evil for three rounds.
Nixie |
As Elros casts LIGHT you get a better view of the cavern. Which means you get *dun dun duuuun* the read-aloud! A natural cavern opens up here, its ceiling stretching to a height of over fifty feet. A wide circular hole occupies the center of the ceiling, surrounded by a ring of fanglike stalactites. Two shorter, narrower passages lead away from the cavern to the northwest and southwest, and a fifteen-foot-tall shelf lies on the eastern wall.
Sandin does not see anything but he can hear a scratching and digging sound coming from the walls. Elros detects strong evil in the walls and he gets the impression something bad is about to dig it's way into the chamber...
Time to roll initiative kiddos.
A: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
B: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
C: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Sandin Graysmire |
Init: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24 Hearing the digging Sandin flys up 10 feet off the ground. Something's comming.
Elros of Amrothe' |
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
"There is Evil in the walls... And something bad is coming."
Elros lifts off using Fly from his Celestial Armor, going straight up 20 feet.
Nixie |
Bursting forth from the ground and walls come 3 very large and scarry tentacled multi-neon-eyed wormlike creatures. The are fast and their tentacles zip around the chamber like lion tamers whips.
It's time to fight...THE MOON WORMS!

Wow! Ok, gloves are off.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Sandin draws a rigid tuning fork from his handy haversack.
Concentration check due to continuous damage while casting DC=10+ 1/2 damage + spell level. Continuous damage is 11. Plane shift is a 7th level spell for wizard so DC is 22. I can not fail. I also can not fail to cast defensively.
Sandin flicks the tuning fork making a dark sound, reaches out and attempts to touch the worm next to him.
touch attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
If the touch attack hit, the creature will need a DC 29 will save or be plane shifted to the negative energy plane. Casts plane shift defensively.
Sandin Graysmire |
Just saw one of the things murderise Elros so had to use a big gun so to say.
Nixie |
Yes, poor Elros. He's going to be laughing and eating thanksgiving turkey tomorrow and think to himself self, I ought to check my moonscar game and then boy is he in for a surprise! But luckily he has powerful Necromantic friends...
Knut das Auge |

As Elros sagged unconscious, he released the

Casting Time 1 standard action or immediate action; see text
Components V
Area 30-ft.-radius burst centered on you
Duration instantaneous and 1 round/level; see text
Saving Throw Will partial; Spell Resistance yes
You fall unconscious but also unleash a spectacular wave of holy energy that heartens and heals your allies while leaving your opponents daunted and damaged. You can cast this spell as either a standard action on your turn, or as an immediate action when brought to below 0 hit points. If cast as a standard action, you are immediately reduced to –1 hit points, but stable, after casting the spell.
When you cast this spell, any good creature within range is healed for 1d6 points of damage per two caster levels. All evil creatures within range take the same amount as damage instead (a successful Will save halves this damage). In addition, all allies and enemies within range are affected as if by the prayer spell for 1 round per caster level.
A blaze of silver light explodes out of his body in a 30 ft radius burst, healing his allies for 8d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 5, 4, 5, 5, 4) = 36, damaging all evil creatures 8d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5, 5, 3, 3, 6, 2) = 34 (will save DC20 for half), and laying a Prayer on all within 30 feet for 16 rounds.
