Okay, here we go. Sorry, it's been a busy few days.
Both the mirror and the statues are more or less integrated and fixed in place and could not be taken out and sold without significant stonework. As such, a valuation is more or less irrelevant.
You move on to the eastern doors and Turel opens them.
*****A10*****
Pillars line the walls of this rectangular chamber, interspersed with stone jackal heads extending from the walls. A stone altar, covered in a layer of dust, sits at the eastern end of the room. To the west, a set of stone double doors stands slightly ajar.
*************
You may again attempt trained Knowledge (religion) DC 20 on the jackal symbols.
As you enter the chamber (I will use the same marching order), a pair of skittering giant insectlike things come out from behind the altar and attack. You may roll trained Knowledge (nature) to identify them.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
You will need to beat Perception DC 27 in order to take an action in the surprise round, during which the enemies move to Camus and Turel. After the surprise round, it's Initiative DC 17 or 18 (depending on your Dex) to act before the enemies make their first attack.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Samy, I don't think anyone in the group has a perception high enough to beat a DC27. Turel could match, but not beat, and he has the highest bonus of all of us.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
After the nasty insectlike things show up to surprise his party, Harmose rolls his initiative.
Initiative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
He also contemplates, once again, that his house needs furnishing with knowledge skills. The jackal heads bother him especially. Surely he's seen one before, somewhere?
Turel Garaldo |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
On noticing the jackal heads Turel is overwhelmed by a sense of deja vue and he is caught completely off guard by the surprise attack.
My vision...I have seen these before!
Tuneya Fahardid |
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Untrained Knowledge(religion) to aid another: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22
We need a perception monkey.
Tuneya just doesn't see the ambush coming. She's also a bit distracted by the statues. And by humming the song she has in her head. She's at a particularly scandalous part, too.
Aleris Somciel |
Kn. Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Initiative (Aleris): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
As the group enters the room, Aleris is too preoccupied with staring at the jackal heads and the altar to notice that anything is amiss until it's too late.
I feel like I should know what those represent...
**************************************************
I'll do Regina's initiative roll and then we can go from there on whether you want to bot her Samy or have one of us do it.
Initiative (Regina): 1d20 ⇒ 16
Tuneya Fahardid |
Melee Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Tuneya has no clue what the insects are, but she sees them going after Camus and Turel. So, without hesitation, she steps up and swings her morningstar at the nearest one. Hoping, at least, that these won't be so capable of shrugging off blows.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Looking at the map, I see that I am blocked from doing much other than Grease spell...
Harmose casts grease on the squares that include the bugs, and the squares just behind the bugs. The bugs have to make a DC16 reflex save to avoid falling. If they fall and try to get up, Camus and Turel will have attacks of opportunity.
Turel and Camus, the 2x2 set of squares directly in front of you are GREASED. You can still walk normally around the edges of the room.
Camus de Sable |
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Camus is way too drowsy, he felt almost asleep when the party got engaged on the whoe deal about the mirror.
"Oh wait a second, where the hell this insects came from!"
Camus swing his cutlass furiously when he has the chance
Hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
"Slippery bastards!
Samy |
Description of creatures:
This tan-colored creature looks like a ten-legged spider. Oversized jaws grind together slowly beneath beady eyes.
They are size Small, so roughly dog-sized.
Somebody needs to take Knowledge (nature). :)
Reflex Save A: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Reflex Save B: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Wow, they actually both manage to evade Harmose's spell, the slippery bastards! Then, on their Round 1 action, they full attack Camus and Turel. Since they do not move, they don't need to make a new check vs Grease.
A Bite vs Camus: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
A Claw vs Camus: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
A Claw vs Camus: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
B Bite vs Turel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
B Claw vs Turel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
B Claw vs Turel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
A Dmg vs Camus: 1d6 + 1 + 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (3) + 1 = 9
Despite his higher AC, Camus gets unlucky and takes two lucky shots from the enemy.
Round 1
Harmose casts Grease
Tuneya attacks - 5hp damage (let me know if you attacked A attacking Camus or B attacking Turel)
Creatures attack - 9hp damage to Camus (Camus, are your hp up to date? I think you haven't fixed them since we rewinded the bomb)
Camus attacks - miss
Up next: Turel, Aleris, Regina, Harmose, Tuneya
Before creatures' next Round 2 turn, I need actions from everyone except Camus who already rolled his attack. Have at them!
Turel Garaldo |
Camus...Nooo!!
Turel jabs desperately at the insect-like creature which savaged the dashing warrior, hoping to draw their attacks on him. "Regina! He needs help badly!"
Spear attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13; damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 He will strike the one attacking Camus.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Botting Regina
"Taste oblivion! No one hurts my teammates but me!"
Hand of the Acolyte, Ranged vs. Camus's bug: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage: 2d4 - 1 ⇒ (1, 2) - 1 = 2
Aleris Somciel |
Rather than risk firing her bow into the thick of the melee, Aleris concentrates on calling down holy fire against the bug that's tearing into Camus.
Fire of Belief (Ranged Touch): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Damage (Fire): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Fire of Belief - 3 uses left today
Aleris seems to have left home without her glasses :(
Tuneya Fahardid |
Melee Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Tuneya swings again at the bug, while raising an eyebrow as she does so.
"You know, for a bomb expert, I spend a lot of time swinging a pointy ball on a stick," Tuneya jokes.
Camus de Sable |
"THAT HURTS YOU KNOW?!
Camus attacks furiously with his scimitar to the bug that attacks him
Hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
"YOU ARE AS UGLY AS YOU ARE SLOW"
Camus goes up one tile.Because he is now adjacent to only 1 enemy his trait activates and his ac becomes 20
I am assuming it hits btw
Samy |
Tuneya's attack is enough to drop the bug that was attacking Camus, removing the other creature from the equation just in time for their next turn. Then the remaining bug attacks, still on Turel.
Attack vs Turel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Attack vs Turel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Attack vs Turel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Confirm vs Turel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Damage 2 Claw + Rend: 1d3 + 1 + 1d3 + 1 + 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (3) + 1 + (2) + 1 = 11
Sorry. :( I guess it was payback for unscathed last round.
Camus then attacks, and hits for 6 points of damage.
Everyone else's turn.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Work has been insane. How many turns have I missed?
Turel Garaldo |
With a guttural groan Turel falls to the ground, his weapon clattering uselessly away from his crumpled form, blood pooling at his feet.
Stabilize Roll DC 10: 1d20 + 0 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 0 - 2 = 7
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Okay, catching up. Harmose needs to do 2 actions, and Regina 1...
HARMOSE -- Missed Round
Time Warp to prior to Bug Attack on Turel
Acid Splash with Acid Flask Focus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 Does it hit their Touch AC?
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Turel's Bug
REGINA
Casting Defensively -- Not needed, not within 5 feet.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 On Turel
HARMOSE -- Current Round
Acid Splash with Acid Flask Focus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Turel's Bug
Aleris Somciel |
Relieved that Turel is back on his feet thanks to Regina's aid, Aleris tries again to roast the remaining bug.
Fire of Belief (Ranged Touch): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage (Fire): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Samy |
Both of Harmose's acid splashes hit. Aleris' fire, sadly, misses.
Camus, Harmose, Regina and Aleris have acted. Turel (prone) and Tuneya still get to act before the bug's next attack. Waiting for them since with luck they might finish it off.
Turel can attack from the ground (prone is -4 to hit) or get up before attacking (invokes AoO, requires move action so no full attack after).
Total of 11hp damage done to the remaining bug so far. It teeters close to death.
Tuneya Fahardid |
Melee Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Tuneya steps over to help Turel, swinging at the bug... and promptly missing. She curses a bit under her breath, since she's much more capable with her bombs but doesn't want to risk hurting Turel.
Turel Garaldo |
Turel regains consciousness in a haze of confusion, the light touch of the enchanting priestess fading fast from his memory. He starts in surprise as the insect-like monster looms over him and lashes out at it with his fists.
Flurry of Blows: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (12) - 4 = 8; damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Flurry of Blows: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (12) - 4 = 8; damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Samy |
Turel's blows miss the bug, but fortunately it has lost interest in him. Being on the ground perhaps makes him a less threatening enemy, and the bug instead moves its attention to Tuneya who has closed into melee range.
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage 2 Claws + Rend: 1d3 + 1 + 1d3 + 1 + 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (1) + 1 + (2) + 1 = 8
Everyone's turn.
Turel Garaldo |
Turel rises to his feet and lashes out with his foot against the troublesome pest.
Unarmed Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6; damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
He slips on some of his own dried blood and receives a nasty slash on his arm for good measure.
This place...is...starting to irritate me...
Aleris Somciel |
"Tuneya!"
Realizing that the situation is rapidly turning dire, Aleris focuses everything she can muster on the remaining bug creature, hoping to finally destroy it before it claims the life of one of her companions.
Fire of Belief (Ranged Touch): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Damage (Fire): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Fire of Belief - 1 use left today
Please let that actually hit...
Camus de Sable |
Camus fall to his knee tired of the fight
"What the hell man those bastards were hard ..."
Then he rapidly remembers Tuyena's situation
"Tuyena!Come one girl! dont die on us now!"
Untrained heal check: 1d20 ⇒ 19
"Come on girl say something!Say one of that clever jokes at least!"
Aleris Somciel |
Breathing a sigh of relief, Aleris pushes her way forward into the room, taking care to avoid the area of the floor still covered with grease. She kneels down beside Camus and the fallen Tuneya, assessing her injuries. "It'll be okay Camus, let me have a look at her," she says, trying to keep her own voice calm and steady even though she felt anything but.
Heal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Seeing that she's likely to slowly bleed to death if left untreated, Aleris places a hand on Tuneya's shoulder and whispers a healing prayer to Shelyn.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Tuneya Fahardid |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Tuneya wakes up and groans, reaching up to rub her head. It was the feeling of energy and health flowing into her that brought her back. She then sits up and rubs her head more.
"Okay, that was worse than the time Izola responded to me having a hangover from drinking all of her wine by playing a drum for two hours."
She looks to Aleris and smiles. "Thank you! And, I think I'll keep this incident from my letter... Izola would lecture me for hours if I told her I got taken down by a bug."
She then stands, blinks, and nods. "Right! Traps!"
She then begins to search the room for traps, trying her very best to find any. Just in case any are about to be triggered.
She looks to Turel and Camus. "Are both of you okay?"
Turel Garaldo |
Turel groans as the last bug falls dead thanks to the beautiful Aleris. The more I see of her the more she...takes of me. How will I recover myself? Do I even wish so? Ahh...that for another day.
He turns to Aleris and bows silently in thanks for her efforts, then moves to retrieve his dropped spear, almost falling to his knees from the blood loss.
"Camus." He turns to the warrior, "We should check this room to make sure no surprises lurk here." As Tuneya rises to her feet, Turel smiles weakly at her, "I am doing...better." He replies softly in reply.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
He looks around the room briefly but the blood loss, coupled by struggling with his thoughts, prove a huge distraction.
Samy |
Since Aleris is higher than Turel in the initiative order, she would have blasted the bug *before* Turel tried standing up and took an AoO. Therefore, the AoO never took place, and Turel did not incur the last 2hp of damage. Does that make sense?
I believe hit points are currently at the following state:
Aleris, Harmose and Regina remain unharmed.
Camus took 2hp trap damage (in A6) and 9hp bug damage on Round 1. Total 11hp damage, leaving him at 1/12hp.
Turel took an 11hp two claw rend; Regina healed 7hp, leaving Turel at 4hp of damage, or 5/9hp.
Tuneya took an 8hp two claw rend; Aleris healed 5hp, leaving Tuneya at 3hp of damage, or 4/7hp.
Please doublecheck my calculations regarding yourself and let me know if I'm off somewhere.
There are no traps in the room, or any other creatures for that matter.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Serves me right for being in my IRL game this evening. You all had a ton of fun without me.
Harmose digs in his bag for the two scrolls of Cure Light Wounds that the party bought together. "Aleris, as our heroine of the hour, would you like to do the honors on getting people healed?"
Harmose then works to aid Tuneya in her search for traps.
Perception, Aid Another: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Harmose Al-Nefer |
There are no traps in the room, or any other creatures for that matter.
Harmose looks around the room, trying to ascertain its purpose. Is there anything in here? Anything written on the walls? What does it look like other than a horrific place of battle?
Harmose looks around at his wounded colleagues. "Do we wish to go on with our explorations today, or do we want to climb back up, heal, and purchase some more supplies for a foray tomorrow or the day after? We do have some small treasure that we can sell so that we can resupply, and research that could be done on ancient Osironi gods."
"While I would like to continue, I am not wounded, and I know that that it is best if we return from the Necropolis before nightfall. What say you all?"
He then pauses and says to Tuneya, Camus and Turel, "I was terrified in the last battle that I would lose one of you. In the last few days, you have become more than colleagues to me, you are dear friends."
Aleris Somciel |
Aleris smiles back at Tuneya, looking relieved. "Don't worry about thanking me - I'm just glad you're okay! And that goes for everyone," she adds, looking at Turel and Camus. As she gets to her feet, she gratefully takes the two scrolls that Harmose offers to her. "Will do. It's a good thing that we invested in these."
With a quick glance, she can see that of Camus and Turel, the former is the more injured of the two. "Let's wait a moment before we go any further, Camus. Right now, you look like a stiff breeze might knock you down. Let me patch you up, first." Unfurling one of the scrolls, she recites the healing invocation aloud as she places one hand on the Camus' shoulder.
Cure Light Wounds (Scroll #1): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Although the scroll obviously works, Aleris frowns as it doesn't seem that the magic was as effective as it could have been. With a sigh, she gives Turel a guilty glance as she repeats the process with Camus once more.
I'm sorry...but Camus really is the most injured of us right now...
Cure Light Wounds (Scroll #2): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
"Well...I suppose that's as good as we can expect for the moment. I'm content to retreat back to Wati for now if that seems like the best option."
Turel Garaldo |
Turel sees the guilty look on Aleris' face and nods encouragingly to her. "You are doing the right thing, Aleris. Camus helps no one if he cannot withstand another attack like the one we just suffered."
Although I do regret I will not feel her touch...
He nods again, "Retreat is a wise option here, but we should see if this temple holds any clues before leaving. Also we need to collect the items we have discovered so far."
Harmose Al-Nefer |
"Tuneya, I think that my prioiities are a little different, but not much. We don't need more rope, though a slightly longer rope would be nice. Aleris told us she is carrying rope as well?"
He looks at Aleris to confirm this.
"With your permission, I'd like us to purchase something else before we purchase the scroll of 'Make Whole.'"
"We desperately need a wand of Cure Light Wounds. With such a wand, we could have finished the tomb today."
Harmose looks back through the list of treasure accumulated so far, doing math calculations in his head. "Turel, do you know if the Church of Pharasma sells them? Perhaps your friend Bal Themm could find us one that is only partially charged, and cheaper?"
He then looks at Tuneya. "I'd also like to purchase one of those wheels that you see on building sites that makes lifting easier. What are they called?" He pauses a moment, searching his memory. "A pulley? I have no idea how to set one up, but perhaps you know, or we could research it while in town."
"Some of our treasure is very heavy indeed, and I for one am in favor of anything that may make the process easier."
Aleris Somciel |
Aleris nods. "Right, I've got extra rope if we need it. And I agree about the pulley too; I have no idea how we'll get the chariot pieces or that chest back to the top of the shaft otherwise." She glances at the still-injured Tuneya, Turel, and Camus. "A healing wand would be a big help as well. My own healing power is limited and I'm sure that Regina's is also."
Camus de Sable |
Camus does look relieved that tuyena wakes up. And watches as how Aleris patches the wounded Camus. Altought trying to look like hes ok, hes obviously in pain.
"Thanks honey, I feel much better now
Camus tries to compose himself after the fight.
"I feel better now I dont mind continuing a little if you wish, however resting may be a good idea , we may be even bring some of the stuff we have found for selling to the market. We would probably have to make several travels anyway. Doing a little bit of work and leaving the stuff may be calling of a day. I propose we rest at least for one night on the outskirts of the tomb. One night may be all we need to continue "
Any penalty if we take our time to sack the thing by the way? Also about healing wands, infernal healing wands are very very useful. With it I think we may be able to finish the tomb just with it. I think Regina can use it, the spell is on the cleric list. Funnily "infernal healing" seems really apropiate for Regina
Harmose Al-Nefer |
"So we're all agreed. Let's go up, sell stuff, heal and come back tomorrow. Camus, maybe you'll even get a chance to see Kema tonight and tell her of your victorious battles and how you worked to keep your team safe."
And for Horus's sake, don't mention what you did to the Chariot! Harmose adds silently.
"So let's gather up the portable items on the list, and head to A3."
Harmose pauses and adds:
"As for getting out of here, here is my suggestion."
"Camus, you are graceful. Turel, you are sturdy. Both of you have a good height. Camus, can you stand on Turel's shoulders and tie Aleris's rope to the one we left hanging? Then I think if you two can aid the ladies and myself up until we can climb to the wall, we'll all be able to make the climb up."
"Does this work for all of you?"
_____________________
Having heard this plan, do we all need to roll leaving the tomb, or can we fast forward ourselves out of the Necropolis, Samy? Also, how much time do we have left today?
Aleris Somciel |
Aleris fidgets as the group discusses the plan for withdrawing back to Wati for the day. "That plan makes sense to me," she nods. "I wish we could've gone farther today, but we still made good progress and we're all in one piece...more or less."
And it will be nice to see the light of day again. I knew it would probably be stuffy and stale down here, but I'm not sure I was prepared for just how much.
