They gather Information. Something specific they should be looking for?
You know, I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea to see if anything of the previous Silver Ravens might be accessible to us. And that would require finding it beforehand. So maybe out little eyes and ears could have a go at that information.
Also, we have that one informant NPC that we ended up with. Maybe our performers could link up with him somehow?
Miranda Greenblossom
Mm Stealthy to buff Miranda's good skills or Deceitful to buff the less good ones? Stealthy feels best I think.
Gather information on the Silver Raven stuff might be handy yeah! Or if anyone heard anything on Thrune movements? But those I'm sure we'll notice :p
Boros Black-Hand
Well, not just the stragglers from the prior version. But hideouts, caches, possibly previous arrest or battle sites. For the last, I'm thinking that it might be possible (though unlikely) that someone stashed something in a crack or hole before being taken.
GM Mordred
Note that the rules read:
This can either be a randomly determined rumor (your GM has tables of rumors that change with each adventure) or a specifc piece of local information that you could learn by making a Diplomacy check to gather information about that topic or individual. For certain topics or individuals, the DC might be higher than 15.
I do assume you want specific, but before you do the roll, do consider if there is a good chance for your team to learn something.
I mean, they don't arcane the knowledge from some divine font of wisdom, they go out on the streets, keep their ears open, chat with drunk people in taverns - basically, if it's something that could have people talk about it, or some rumors are likely, then it will be fine to learn it with the base DC.
If you want more abstract information, such as secret stashes of the previous Ravens, then consider how many sources of such information are likely to exist - in these cases, you can set the DC higher - which will make the information more reliable. On the base DC, you may end up chasing ghosts.(no traps, though, unless natural 1 on check :) (instead of notoriety))
Boros Black-Hand
Oooo, nice result. Let's hope it gets us some good, useful intel!
Miranda Greenblossom
Mm good initiative. Guessing exactly what's around or not might be hard, unless we're poking any thread we already got.
Boros Black-Hand
So, anyone else here heard about Valve's new hand-held PC? Windows/Linux gaming in a device not much larger than a Switch.
Kith Jeova
The Steam Deck seems to be way better than the Steam Link Console attempts. I'm just not sure how much of a market there is to play PC games on a handheld. PC games are just better on a mouse/keyboard/big monitor.
Miranda Greenblossom
I think I'm in camp Kith with this. But on the other hand; it might be something for console people to branch out with?
I've got the handheld only switch - mostly so I could play pokémon - but I've found I don't use it often. If I'm at home I'll just sit by the computer instead if I want to play. And if I'm on the move I'll just use my phone.
But I'm excited to see how it actually turns out. Maybe it is a great idea. We'll see :)
GM Mordred
Phew, had to leave for a few days on a work-related trip. Currently updating games, and I will post here later today(lunch nap-time almost over, girls are already demanding attention.)
I can see the appeal for a handheld device, for certain kinds of games(the ones which you would want a controller for anyway) - basically a 'console' with ultra-cheap games and a vast pre-existing library - but I won't get one, most likely.
I'll want a VR-set at some point, but thats too expensive. But VR is a real 'game-changer' as to how you experience things. That Steam Deck is just a minor alteration. (I do have a Steam Link somewhere, and a wireless controller - so I could just crash on the couch and play on the big screen and I am not moving around often enough that portability would be a selling point).
Boros Black-Hand
I'm just not sure how much of a market there is to play PC games on a handheld.
Unit reservations in excess of 100k across all three models in the first few hours suggests that there might be a bit of interest in such a thing :D. And, unlike consoles or handhelds, there's no flagship title(s) releasing alongside it to help bring in customers.
Kith Jeova
If it gets traction outside of Valve enthusiasts then it could really be something impactful. It's a great start for sure. Getting tech influencers on board has also been a big win.
I don't know where the product stands in relation to meeting a need for consumers versus Gabe Newell's quixotic quest to rescue pc gaming from the clutches of Windows is all.

Saw lots and shiny new text!
Am down with a bit of a cold though, so my eyes kinda glazed over halfway through ... :/
Have been doing other stuff earlier today as well, so I think I'll have better luck trying tomorrow. Just a head's up so you know I'm paying a little attention at least :)
GM Mordred
no worries. That last wait was entirely on me. No hurries. More shiny text coming as I find time, there's still several things to address, like the information gathering, or some subplots referenced.

A few points of the clarification on the chest's internals. We have:
Regular compartment.
Secret (non-magical) compartment in lid.
Hidden (magical) storage #1 (openus). This one has expanded storage beyond what the external dimensions of the trunk would allow, right? Because of the haversack attached to it.
But the warning isn't quite clear on this, how can the trunk and the haversack both be open at the same time?
Hidden (magical) storage #2 (fixus).
Hidden (magical) storage #3 (pleasurus [huehuehuehuehuehue]).
Hidden (magical) storage #4 (no command)?
GM Mordred
Regular, yes, secret nonmagical, yes.
Hidden #1: Nope, not additional dimensions, but it seems an haversack exists that allows access to the SAME space. That is, you can store things in there and if you open the haversack, you can rummage around in the chest and fetch what you need even if the chest is not nearby. The Haversack is a separate item you do not currently have. And IF both the sack AND the trunk are opened, it will be...interesting. (Amusingly, since the Sacks connection to the space is severed unless opened, you CAN place it in the storage, in theory. But if you open it while it is in storage, well, lets just say it would escalate things up from interesting.)
Hidden 2, yep.
Same with Hidden 3.
Hidden #4 was refused by the creator, the person who ordered the chest wanted a kill-mechanism built in (as a trap, or as amusement).
Boros Black-Hand
Hold up, the haversack (if we can get hold of it) will give us the RPG staple of a universal bankbox? F#!*. Yeah.
However, until we actually get that item, we might want to avoid actually using that first compartment for anything we actually care to keep. Also, and this is going to be important, does that potentially bad interaction between open haversack and open chest apply to the chest as a whole (i.e., regardless of which compartment is being accessed) or just #1?
Because getting screwed over by someone else mucking about with that haversack while we innocently use what we think is a safe compartment would really, really suck s$@~.
GM Mordred
1 person marked this as a favorite.
It's not just ANY haversack, Kith, it is a specific one keyed to this Chest.
That said, the seller seems to have been unaware of this and it may have been opened to the compartment for some time in the shop, already, or while you stuffed your illegal goods in or retrieved them.
Being cautious is never bad, but at least it would seem that currently that Haversack is not in active use by someone.
(or, in GM terms: not planning on screwing you over on that in the near future. :)
Boros Black-Hand
(or, in GM terms: not planning on screwing you over on that in the near future. :)
Always that caveat, lol.
Boros Black-Hand
Okay, question regarding those papers. Are those (in part or in total) the great handful of whatever-the-f! that Boros snatched out of the wagon his team hit? Because, as far as I know, there never was any other clarification on what he got with that snatch.
Also in regards to said papers, is there anything of military significance to be gleaned by someone with the relevant experience (and, possibly, skill ranks)?
GM Mordred
Yes, those are the papers - they transported intelligence on people - those they investigated and incarcerated, those under investigation but not yet proven guilty, and those kept compliant by pressure.
The location held little information regarding strategic intelligence or anything of military significance.
But of course, nothing stops you from trying to use some piece of blackmail on a local commander and try to get military intel from them.
The exact nature of the 'charges' is left open, you can use them creatively, but you need some preparation to do so - can't decide in the middle of an OP that you'll go and pressure someone into hiding you - you'd have to set that up beforehand.

Re object reading - See, there usually isn't any sort of check involved. See quote below! But at the same time, I'm fairly sure we did decide to roll something ... Didn't see anything written on the campaign tab though, so probably need to track down where we talked about it!
[quote(Object Reading (Su)]At 2nd level, an occultist learns how to read information from items he examines.
Examining an item in this way requires him to spend 1 minute handling the item. If the item is a magic item, the occultist learns its properties and command word as if he had successfully examined the item using detect magic and succeeded at a Spellcraft check. This ability does not reveal whether the item is cursed unless the occultist’s class level is equal to or greater than the caster level of the item. If the item has any historical significance, the occultist learns one piece of information about its past (as determined by the GM). Finally, if the item was last used no longer than 1 day ago per the occultist’s class level, the occultist learns one piece of information about the last creature to use the item. This information might be a glimpse of the creature’s appearance, a brief vision of what it saw while using the item, or perhaps its emotional state when it last used the item. The GM determines what information is gained in this way. This functions like the psychometry occult skill unlock, but doesn’t require a skill check and can be used at will.
---
With Boros on his observation of the sack situation. Also... If we find the sack ... This might be a nice bomb >.>
---
Supporter roll was great at least :D
Boros Black-Hand
I just had my own off-the-wall idea for the chest and sack. We could use the chest's compartment as a storage for a person. Now, normally, they'd die from lack of air. But if the mouth of the haversack would be kept open a little for air to pass in and through? Well then. Could use the chest to safehouse people (or contain a prisoner) without them dying in there.
GM Mordred
Re object reading - See, there usually isn't any sort of check involved. See quote below! But at the same time, I'm fairly sure we did decide to roll something ... Didn't see anything written on the campaign tab though, so probably need to track down where we talked about it!
Ah, yeah, I was looking at Occult Skill unlocks, where you do roll to see how much information you gain. The object reading you have is without roll, but more limited in depth while being useable at will.
The last ones to use were you as you shifted your goods inside, and the shopkeeper as he presented it - no one else fits this category in the last couple days. And it holds no historical significance in regards to you or the general populace.
So there's little you'd gain/could learn. But I do remember we had a talk on that a while ago, I will also try to track it down.
Boros Black-Hand
Well, we have the chest, we have the papers that were in the chest (deciphered instructions and porn), we have the evidence papers, we have other assorted loot, we have successfully recruited a group of street performers for intel gathering and (I think) assigned them a somewhat vague task of gathering information on the old Silver Ravens (specifically, possibly lairs and caches), we (I) failed the freedom fighter recruitment, we rolled for supporters (and have, I believe, 26 total), and I think that's that.

So anyone here planning on getting the upcoming PF PC game release? I've got the first one and liked it enough to throw a sufficient amount at the sequel's Kickstarter to guarantee myself a copy of the release. I'm not going to play on release, though, what with launch bugs being a thing; the first PF game had a few months before it got smoothed out and I fully expect the same the WotR. But still, looking forward to it.
Kith Jeova
I backed it and everything but I never finished the first one, even on story difficulty, because the dungeons are, too, long. I'm just not at a time of life that I can devote a good amount of time to these game sadly like I used to.
Miranda Greenblossom
Re: Kingmaker - I played it a bit and enjoyed it, but since my other pbp pathfinder campaign is Kingmaker as well I quit quite early to avoid spoilers :p
Re: next one - will probably get it eventually. Still waiting for baldur's gate 3 to reach a full release as well, so I've got plenty of stuff scheduled for future me :)
---
Re: Papers - yes it seems like powerups that may come in handy in the future :)
Re: Actions - I'd say let's roll for the event and see if it is something we have to solve!
If not we can list all our loose threads and see if we want to jank one :)
GM Mordred
Aye, I wanted to keep going, been on a family visit that was planned for 2 days and got...prolonged :) between kids and in-laws, had no time to post, but I'll pick it up running, I got some posts in but we need to get moving again on some substance, not just side dishes :)
Will try to get to that in the next few days.
@PF PC games: Aye, definitely getting it. I only played the first 2 chapters of the first one before running into a game-breaking bug where I would have needed to restart - (and I simply never had the time for that, will do it at some point though),
But WOTR, I definitely want to give it a spin, will wait a few months due to launch bugs, then acquire it at the first major sale where it gets a discount.
I mean, they included one of my fav templates in there...Worm that Walks.
Nezari Neilrotti
Ok, so, chance of an event is Danger + Notoriety, if my roll is equal or lower than that, we have an event.
Is there an Event: 1d100 ⇒ 89
And I rolled high enough there's no chance of that and I don't need to check, so, hooray!
More chance to reduce our notoriety/city's danger before things strike again.
Nezari Neilrotti
Alright, so, now for the real question. Was that much fun?
I started trying this experiment on Jun 22, 2021, so, that gives 2 months per 1 week of this system. Maybe we'd hit a stride and reduce that, but this really seems like a system optimized for one player to take the wheel and decide and roll everything and hand out the goodies.
GM Mordred
Oh, I take the blame for that, we should be doing things to further the plot but I wanted to resolve lots of minor things first, as a baseline for the rebellion and see where we're heading.
Time will move 'swifter' and there will also be weeks where, due to circumstances or reasons, you will not do much, while time still passes, and there may be some impact on what to do with the teams under your control.
(where you have one now that you sent out to gather intel) - just saying right now might not be representative - and I did say I'll try and get us moving plotwise again before getting bogged down in sidetracks, we can still do those in parallel, but I'd like to continue the plot :)
Boros Black-Hand
The chirping crickets
Why are there no new posts here
So very boring
GM Mordred
Aye, I am currently re-reading the second book - I altered a lot of things initially, but now trying to get some stuff to align more closely to the original plot so we can move swifter and not wait for me all the time.
Thanks for the patience.
Things are in motion,
starting slowly but steady
soon you will see more.
Boros Black-Hand
Uh, you're the DM. We're kind of always going to be waiting on you no matter what else happens, because you're the one running this sideshow :D.
GM Mordred
Haha, true that,
I know it seems inconceivable, but what I meant was that hopefully you may have situations where you wait for other players to act, rather than the DM.
Boros Black-Hand
Mordred, wakey-wakey. Don't make me come over and put your hand into a dish of warm water!
GM Mordred
Hej, no worries, I am awake and active. Huge Go-Live and cutover next Monday for a work project, basically just waiting until thats done.
(Not waiting until end of Hypercare, as that will extend for potentially another 2-3 weeks before handing stuff over to operations, but until the preliminary work is done and we are running stable on the new system.)
GM Mordred
Work seems to go reasonably well. Some problems but nothing huge. Working in the night, tomorrow in the morning, and probably until evening - may take it a bit easy on wednesday but should be able to post by then.
