In my haste to get everything ready, I didn't notice on your sheet that Lothar has enough money to purchase a mount. If it's okay, Lothar will get himself a couple of mules: one to serve as a mount, the other to provide extra carrying capacity. He'll also purchase bit and bridle, a riding saddle, and a pack saddle as well. If my calculations are correct, then he should have 1 gp left.
mule (2)= 16 gp
bit and bridle = 2 gp
riding saddle = 10 gp
pack saddle = 5 gp
total = 33 gp

I need to not make a post and then fall asleep in my easy chair, and wake up just in time to go to bed!
Even though retired as of 12/31/2009, I am very busy taking some volunteer training at a local hospital from now till May 2011. I am out of the house Monday and Thursday from 0800 till 1530, and Tuesday from 1000 till 1700 (all times Eastern US - ET). I have no internet access at all while in training. These times are pretty fixed now, so my schedule shouldn't change that much, other than the normal wife / kids / grandkid time.

I understand. I just started working 3rd shift hours (10:45 pm to 7:15 am; my times are also Eastern US - ET) as a Resident Adviser at a behavioral health-care facility myself, so my weird hours just got weirder (fortunately, I have Saturdays and Sundays off, leaving me able to run my own campaign on the weekends). I'll still be posting frequently, though (my sleep cycle is a little strange).

My plan is to use grease to render them incapable of moving properly (2 castings should do the trick). With them unable to move (hopefully), we can cover them with arrows and demand their surrender without spilling a drop of blood and be able to interrogate them. From there we can dispense justice as is needed.
DM Papa.DRB
Yup, squares are 5' each.

that is an excellent plan, it just takes 2 rounds in which to complete it. If we have a surprise round, then we still need you to act before the bandits in round 1. 5 bandits on horses is 5 large creatures. Do you think you will be able to effect all of them with 2 spells of grease.
Lothar Narda
I can't be too sure. It is a gamble. However, we can supplement my idea through the judicious use of Barnabus' caltrops (this would be dependent on how many he actually has at his disposal and whether we can get enough out to be truly effective). I was going to focus on the area directly in front of the shed. Two castings side by side there should cover eight squares. That can get either all the bandits if they dismount or four of the five horses depending on how they are placed by the bandits mounted upon them. My alternative is to place the two castings one behind the other if they file in much like we did: one, then two by two (or two by two, then one). Either way, tossing caltrops to add further difficulty to any possible escape would make things go smoother. The only things beyond our control really are the initiative order and the bandits reactions. We can at least control the battlefield.
Barnabus
My original thinking when getting them was to put them inside the area the bandits would come through and keeping them from coming in further...ie engaging me in melee when I do better with crossbow!....
Alternately Kylia could deploy them to keep the bandits in the fort....
I will go with any plan that is sound overall!
I suggest really looking at the map and determining where the bandits come to, where we can take up positions and what actions will be taken....
Lothar Narda
We should guide the bandits to the "killbox" (squares Q13 & Q14 down to T13 & T14 though this may change based how effective we are at getting them all to the designated areas). Which means getting Oleg to herd them to the area of the shed. I would have preferred using the "12" row, but I've had to mentally adjust based on Gorguk's post (though this may be a better position overall because of the placement of the cart, which would also serve as a hindrance to any quick movement they could make).
I'm really digging the group's tactical grasp of things so far. Only thing that remains now is the execution of the plan.

Nice job all. I don't remember the last time I have played Pathfinder where there wasn't at least one near death during a combat no matter how easy it was suppose to be.
Now that we have survived the first encounter and should have some loot, my question for us though is this. How do we want to divide the loot that we gain from adventuring? When it comes to items, do we give it to the person that could use it the most, or do we factor in the value of it sold and the person that wants it pays that value for it? Do we divide up the gold 5 ways and each give our share, or do we split it 6 ways and use 1 share for the party share for healing and other adventuring expenditures?
DM Papa.DRB
Thanks for bringing up the question of loot. Y'all let me know how it will be handled and I'll adjust.
A few points I need to bring up....
1) How do you want to handle XP? ie. Do you want to know after each encounter how much you earned, and keep track yourself, or do you just want me to tell you when you level up? Either way, I keep track of it myself in a spreadsheet, and I am truly ambivalent either way.
2) So far, is the pace too fast, too slow, or just right? While I am an experienced table top DM, PbP is new to me and just trying to get a handle on the pace.
3) Dell is coming to replace my motherboard and heat sink today, so I will be offline starting at 1100 for a couple of hours.
4) I am moving to a new ISP next week (Cable to FIOS, saves me $40 / month) so on Wednesday 10/27 I will be offline most of the day.

6 way split sounds good with funds going into a party fund!
I say you can track XP and let us know when we are close such as after next encounter you will level or something that gives a little notice.....
I think the pace is fine, not too fast or too slow....
If you can live being off line couple hours and a day then we also will survive....
You can give us incliment weather on that day and we will stay at Oleg's!
AKA RPing opportunity sharing stories by the fire over a tankard of ale!
Gorguk
I like the idea of you keeping track of the experience. In my opinion it helps keep people in character. There isn't the temptation to find a weak encounter just to gain the 50 exp we know we need to level up. As far as leveling up goes, do you require down time to level (a week off of aventuring to train and what not)?
Who keeps track of the party treasure? Is that something you (Papa) also will handle and just let us know what we have available to us? Or would you prefer one of us to handle the party treasury?

6 way split is fine....I'm always for a group party fund. As for items...let's figure out who can make use of any items we find and allow them first dibs if they want them, followed by anyone else with an interest in the item. Once it is decided that no wants the item or we can't make use of it, then we liquidate those assets and perform the 6-way split.

Once again, I am ambivalent about who keeps track of treasure. For instance at the end of this encounter, you will have armor, weapons, gold and maybe a few "miscellaneous" items. Since you are at a trading post, there will be opportunity to cash stuff in, or keep it. When out exploring and you come across stuff, I will let you know what you have found and you can either divide it up or put it into party till you get back to Oleg's. If one of you guys want to, that is ok. I always keep track of xp, hp, treasure, spells, etc. Not that I don't trust anyone, but I have found it easier to keep in consolidated from my end.

Forgot to answer this. For leveling, as soon as you level, you get everything including hd, hp, skills, feats. The only things you don't get are:
1) Spells.
2) Limited class abilities, such as Channel Energy, Smite, bardic knowledge and such things.
and these are "refreshed/upgraded" after a nights sleep.

Can everyone please send to me a contact email address for yourself. Since I am going to change my ISP next week, I need another place to put documents and pictures up and I am trying to use Google Docs for that. I would rather keep it private, so I need your email address to allow you access.

Some administrivia...
When you start traveling/exploring, I will mark the Greenbelt (with coordinates) map with a ** T ** when you have just traveled through the hex. You get no XP for that. When you have explored the hex I will change the T to a ** X ** and you get some XP for exploring.
Some hexes, but not all, have encounters in them. Anything from buildings, camps, critters, NPCs, etc. Some encounters you automatically find just by traveling through the hex, some you will automatically find when you have explored the hex, and some you have to make skill checks while exploring the hex. As encounters occur I will make the map with the encounter also.
I make your speed as 30, considering horses and load on them.
Per the module guidelines, Exploring the Stolen Lands:
Traveling (Time to cross 1 hex)
Speed, Plains, All Other Terrains
30 feet, 5 hours, 8 hours
Exploring (Time to fully explore 1 hex)
Speed, Plains, Forest or Hill, Mountain or Swamp
30 feet, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days
I also need to know what you are going to keep from the Trading Post encounter and who it goes to, as well as are you going to sell the rest to Oleg? If you don't want it or sell it, he is going to claim the spoils.

*crud* It seems that you have to be signed in to google in order to see things. I have made the documents public. When I get my new ISP, I will move the stuff off Google and to them.
For now, try this link and let me know if you can view it.

Probably nothing. She has a masterwork longbow, and a falchion as well as a chain shirt.
If I do not hear from anyone else by tomorrow morning (0800ET or so), consider it sold and you guys need to decide what to do with the rest of the day, and where you are going next.

Any idea what Kylia would want? Otherwise I suggest selling everything else not listed as taken in the chapter 1 thread
DM Papa.DRB
Hello all lurkers,
Kylia, the Ranger, has gone MIA over a week now and I am seeking a replacement. The other characters are: Paladin, Cleric, Witch, and Bard.
Looking for a character with strong outdoor skills, especially tracking, perception and survival, so I would be looking at a Ranger or Inquisitor submission above others.
Here is a *LINK* to the character creation rules. Ignore the Serpent's Skull players guide link. I'll select a new character on Sunday.

Papa I forgot to ask you when I was ordering the darkwood shield how mauch it would cost to put Erastil's holy symbol carved into the front of the shield. Is it too late to add that charge or would it be included in the price of the Masterwork portion of the shield? Any charge is fine, just let me know what to deduct.

Guys,
With all the things going on in my life right now, I am just not able to give to this PbP what is needed to keep it going and provide enjoyment to you guys and me.
Therefore, I am ending this now rather than drag it out. This is all on me, and I am sorry.

Anyone want to step-up and run this thing?
I have several games going on right now and can not do it.
We could also advertise for a DM on the gamer connect thread....
Any other ideas?
Papa
It was off to a great start, If you have any other maps and cartography for Kingmaker I would love to see it!
I thought that Oleg's was very well done!
Thanks for the great start!
Lothar Narda
Sorry for not getting back here before now.
Wait...it's over?
I would love to continue playing so I for one have no objection to advertising for a new DM. Anything to keep the group together. I too thought it was going great...which is why I'm at a loss here.
Lothar Narda
I have fun 'arguing' with Lothar too much to want this to quit.
Wow! I would have never figured that the discussions between the paladin and the bard were that fun for you. Especially since, as I look at it, everything I suggest is meant to give the paladin an out (I'm pretty partial to pallys so I never understood how people could be so down on them.) My guy is pretty smart, but not very wise so intellectually he understands what's up but once you take it past logic, his understanding tends to break down. You definitely would have seen more of that as time progressed and it would have eventually led to his alignment changing from Lawful Good to Neutral Good.
Gorguk
Any luck yet on finding a new DM to run this campaign?
Lothar, that is why I had fun debating with you. You always tried to have an out for everything. As a paladin I didn't want an out, I wanted something more concrete. Too many outs leave too much room for interpretation and gray areas. The more gray areas, the easier it is to stray off my path.
