One of the advantages of being a headstrong warrior confident of her own greatness is that you don't have to wait for decisive action!

December 26th Update

Gonna wait for Reu's thoughts on how I handle his disguise and such. Normally would just keep going, but as Reu is not really combat focused, would hate to just take away what made him special so quickly.

Sorry, thought I posted, guess post was lost. I'm totally ok with that GM, looks like some bad luck on my part. But wanted to make sure it was a roll of 20 + modifiers that beat my disguise, rather than a nat 20 auto-success skill houserule?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I realize that it's only been a month since my last big announcement, but I'd like everyone to know that I've just received my invitation to serve in the Peace Corps! I will be teaching secondary-level science classes in rural Cameroon, and once I depart from the USA at the end of May, I'll be overseas for 27 months.

I don't leave until May 21, so this affects absolutely nothing until at least then. Many volunteers have some kind of internet access at their post, but I won't know what my situation will be like until I get there.

Thats awesome Alem-what a coincidence, I did three years in Uganda with Peace Corps. :D Also doing secondary science even. I had to travel hours to get internet access, but this was back in 2007.

Sure, happy to answer any :)

December 26th Update

Oh, it seems I failed to mention I houserule that a nat 20 and a nat 1 are auto success and fail in that order.

Let's see...this rule was enacted to make sure that the PCs always had a chance to hit, but also works the other way around.

Reu, your thoughts? I'd rather not make you feel like you['ve been cheated by a rule you weren't aware was in effect.

sidenote: Technically, I'm the one who makes the disguise roll and keeps it secret from you, according to the rules at least.

Human Cavalier (Standard Bearer) 2 - HP: 21/22 - AC 18/T:12/FF:16 Fort: +5, Reflex: +1, Will: +0; Perception: +0

That's usually how things work for attacks and saves, but that's not usually true for skills RAW.

Whatever you rule I'm cool with, I just wanted to make sure what rule was active. :) So nat 20 auto-success skills it is.

Human Cavalier (Standard Bearer) 2 - HP: 21/22 - AC 18/T:12/FF:16 Fort: +5, Reflex: +1, Will: +0; Perception: +0

Why can't you, Zoisa? Any spell that requires an attack roll allows for criticals. :)

The PRD wrote:

Critical Hits: When you make an attack roll and get a natural 20 (the d20 shows 20), you hit regardless of your target's Armor Class, and you have scored a "threat," meaning the hit might be a critical hit (or "crit"). To find out if it's a critical hit, you immediately make an attempt to "confirm" the critical hit—another attack roll with all the same modifiers as the attack roll you just made. If the confirmation roll also results in a hit against the target's AC, your original hit is a critical hit. (The critical roll just needs to hit to give you a crit, it doesn't need to come up 20 again.) If the confirmation roll is a miss, then your hit is just a regular hit.

A critical hit means that you roll your damage more than once, with all your usual bonuses, and add the rolls together. Unless otherwise specified, the threat range for a critical hit on an attack roll is 20, and the multiplier is ×2.

Exception: Precision damage (such as from a rogue's sneak attack class feature) and additional damage dice from special weapon abilities (such as flaming) are not multiplied when you score a critical hit.

Increased Threat Range: Sometimes your threat range is greater than 20. That is, you can score a threat on a lower number. In such cases, a roll of lower than 20 is not an automatic hit. Any attack roll that doesn't result in a hit is not a threat.

Increased Critical Multiplier: Some weapons deal better than double damage on a critical hit (see Equipment).

Spells and Critical Hits: A spell that requires an attack roll can score a critical hit. A spell attack that requires no attack roll cannot score a critical hit. If a spell causes ability damage or drain (see Special Abilities), the damage or drain is doubled on a critical hit.

:)

December 26th Update

Posting to all my games

Just wanted to inform you all that I am currently wading through a veritable swamp of work, obligations, and schooling. As such, for the next two weeks of I do not guarantee my usual posting rate but will attempt to update games when I am able.

Happy Holidays.

With the release of the The First World: Realm of the Fey I'm pondering switching Zoisa's divine patron from Sivanah to the Lantern King. He seems to fit Zoisa's outlook better. She's not really deceptive in the way Sivanah encourages her followers to be, and her color scheme's ugly. Zoisa wants to be colorful, darnit!

Opinions?
