I'm tempted to just have Cuetzpalli move up, eat an AoO or two, and if he manages to avoid rolling a 1 assume he kills the roper, even though I don't know what bonuses he's working with right now.

In the meantime, everyone except Carina can enter their actions now. It's effectively Round 2, and the party's turn.

"Oh, wow. These things are hard to miss and they move really slow! This is the BEST FIGHT EVER! For an archer." He takes a cautious step back to ensure he stays out of nasty tentacle reach, and then fires another series of arrows, putting a little more oomph into the this time, at the expense of some speed and accuracy. He does his best to angle the arrows above Carina, though at least one lands inside a roper with a few blue hairs dangling from it.

Firing first at the one I wounded last round, if it drops I'll continue on to the one behind it. Using Deadly Aim instead of Rapid Shot this round. Also taking a 5-foot step and using a swift action for Arcane Strike.

Shouldn't Farrukh have drawn and burned off those AoOs when he moved in? Unless they have Combat Reflexes or equivalent abilities.

Hm, I can TRY to negate it. Counters don't work on Natural 20s but a 19 is fair game.

By steeling himself against an attack behind the wall of his mighty shield, an Iron Tortoise disciple may attempt to negate or reduce an incoming attack. The initiator makes an opposed attack roll using his base attack bonus plus shield bonus to AC against the opponent’s attack roll. If successful, the attack is negated. If the opposed check is failed by the martial disciple, he instead gains DR 20/- to resist the attack.

Well, that doesn't do it. But I do gain DR 20/- against the attack, so it hurts a bit less. The 31 did NOT confirm, so I'm not sure what the actual damage incoming is.

After the DR (yeah, the rolls were perfectly split, so it really did roll 34 damage and then 34 more damage for the crit), and no, the bite doesn't deal Strength damage.

Effortlessly withstanding the brutal round of attacks and sweeping tendrils, Farrukh and Tanith hack and slash at the ropers, cleaving a path for Astraden to leap in and pierce her target's left eye with her godfather's aberration-hating rapier. The roper shrieks in mindless rage.

Round 2: Clunk.
Battered and nearly-broken by the onslaught of attacks and yanked fifteen feet by the ropers' tendrils, Clunk lands, coughing, and straightens. His wounds are already healing—very slowly. "The elder in the center is more intelligent than its children," he calls, as he hacks at the same roper Farrukh and Astraden struck. The abomination's runes pulse and glow as it snarls and spits.

109/158 damage taken by Clunk.

The panicked ropers continue to flee as the survivors fight viciously. The one being piled on opens its one good eye and eyes Astraden and her aberration bane weapon with single-minded hatred, as the crystal-enshrouded roper lets loose a shriek in the language of monsters.

"Aaah! It bears the Hated Light! Destroy it! Destroy it and crush the blade into nothingness!"

"Astraden," Clunk says, "I do not think they like your weapon."

Sure enough, the injured roper tries to catch Astraden's arm in its toothy maw, and another sends its tendrils at her, as the rest attack Farrukh and Clunk.

Eben audibly sighs, now that there are no targets left for him to hit from an anonymously safe distance, then runs down to plunge himself into the middle of the stew. Once he has a spot (albeit one where he can feel dead roper tentacles squishing underfoot, gross) he spends a second picking between targets. then deciding on the mouthy one with the crystals. As he draws back his bow, he tries out a trick he hasn't made use of yet: mouthing a few words of a spell, he attaches it to the arrow's flight. Lastly, once the arrow is underway, he launches into the shuffling movement of the dance of 23 steps.

Move 60 feet, spend a swift action and a round of performance to activate my bow of songs, and making an arrowsong stike against the 'lead' roper, investing the attack with acid arrow. Activating dance of 23 steps as a free action.

I can't update the map from this computer, but the roper Farrukh, Astraden and Clunk were fighting is down after the first attack. Also, by now you've noticed - the ropers seem totally unaffected by your electric attacks. Still, a total of 75 damage to Old Man Roper this round from Farrukh. He's hurt but not down.

Also, Astraden is not yanked through the roper's square and is not flanking. She's just adjacent to the roper now, same side as everyone else. Sorry for any confusion. That roper is still up.

Astraden and Clunk are up.

Astraden is moved so quickly and with such violent force that she barely even notices the part of her foot that's been mangled by her target's stony teeth, or that her entire body is going numb. She wastes what little breath she has strength left to draw in replying to Clunk. "My weapon - kkhh - isn't - even that - gh h good!"

Quick Selective Channel, excluding the ropers that are already injured (up to 4 in case there's one I'm missing): 7d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 1, 1, 3, 5) = 18 Should heal everyone in the party including Clunk? Quick Channel, so it uses up two slots [5/7] [109/123]

She steps closer to Clunk and deposits her rapier on the ground next to the kolyarut. "Here, try -wheeze - it out!"

She then turns back towards the roper that grabbed her, sizing it up. She takes a precious three seconds weaving in and out of the battle, trying to summon one of Olidammara's gifts despite the distraction of being in the middle of a roper bloodbath and not being able to feel her fingers. And it seems like she is successful, as she shambles forward and jabs out at the roper with an open palm wreathed in violet chaotic energy.

Touch of chaos (haste, good hope, Str damage): 1d20 + 12 + 1 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 12 + 1 + 2 - 4 = 22 If that hits: For the next round, anytime the target rolls a d20, they must roll twice and take the less favorable result.

Taking KC up on her offer to put my hand inside Clunk's puppethead, just to expedite things. He is going to decline Astraden's rapier for the moment, since at 25 HP, eating three potential AoOs from picking something up seems unwise.

I can't do the round's round-up or ropers' full actions tonight, but I've updated the map. Grandpa Roper is still up. Clunk is now at 30 HP thanks to his regeneration. The ropers are up.

Oft forgotten fact: Inspire Courage's attack/damage bonus is a Competence bonus, not a Morale one, so Clunk benefits.
