Dungeon Kobold
The Celestial ropers watch in confusion as the bombs start to fall...
The bomb blasts into the roper, sacred energies crackling and spitting and sparking as the abomination howls in pain.
Farrukh Al`Khatel
Touch AC is currently 21 thanks to Haste, so all of those rope-a-dopes miss.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
A bunch of dice rolls.
With ki dodge and haste up Tanith has a touch AC of 29. His CMD is 51 so none of the pulls work either.
Fort (good hope): 1d20 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 19 + 2 = 32
The roper's flailing tendrils flick off Tanith's hulking form as if his muscles were hardened plates of adamantine. One manages to wrap around his wrist but the rooted roper finds that trying to drag the big man is like moving a mountain. He laughs at the feeble effort before tearing the tendril free from his arm.
Dungeon Kobold
"Rope-a-dope"? Laughing in its face? Just because it's an Aberration doesn't mean it doesn't have feelings, you guys...
Eben MacTeague
So... you're saying my plan for next round to shadow-conjure a giant toilet bowl and give my roper a swirlie is borderline abusive?
Dungeon Kobold
Isn't your Dirge of Doom literally just bullying the enemies for 36 rounds per day?
Eben MacTeague
I don't HAVE Dirge of Doom anymore, so I need to get creative.
Dungeon Kobold
1 person marked this as a favorite.
I told you to play nicely with it. Now you won't get it back until the end of the school year.
Dungeon Kobold
I'm tempted to just have Cuetzpalli move up, eat an AoO or two, and if he manages to avoid rolling a 1 assume he kills the roper, even though I don't know what bonuses he's working with right now.
In the meantime, everyone except Carina can enter their actions now. It's effectively Round 2, and the party's turn.
Cuetzpalli
Greater false life: 3d10 + 15 ⇒ (9, 8, 5) + 15 = 37
THP: 37
HP: 184/184 (bear's)
Cuetzpalli moves to protect Carina's flank, and casts a spell which causes his arms to elongate to apish proportion.
Move and cast long arm.
Dungeon Kobold
I'm tempted to just have a million dollars move up, eat an AoO or two, and if... Eh, it was worth a shot. Welcome back!
Round 2: Eben, Tanith, Farrukh, Astraden and Clunk are up!
Eben MacTeague
"Oh, wow. These things are hard to miss and they move really slow! This is the BEST FIGHT EVER! For an archer." He takes a cautious step back to ensure he stays out of nasty tentacle reach, and then fires another series of arrows, putting a little more oomph into the this time, at the expense of some speed and accuracy. He does his best to angle the arrows above Carina, though at least one lands inside a roper with a few blue hairs dangling from it.
Firing first at the one I wounded last round, if it drops I'll continue on to the one behind it. Using Deadly Aim instead of Rapid Shot this round. Also taking a 5-foot step and using a swift action for Arcane Strike.
Manyshot: longbow+good hope+inspire courage+haste-Deadly Aim-soft cover: 1d20 + 21 + 2 + 3 + 1 - 3 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 21 + 2 + 3 + 1 - 3 - 4 = 25

I use my moment of greatness doubling on the good hope bonus to confirm the crit.
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 21 + 4 + 3 + 1 - 3 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 21 + 4 + 3 + 1 - 3 - 4 = 30
Crit damage: gravity arrow+good hope+inspire courage+weapon of awe+Arcane Strike+Deadly Aim: 6d6 + 8 + 4 + 6 + 4 + 6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 1, 2, 3) + 8 + 4 + 6 + 4 + 6 + 12 = 59

...and that one's a definite miss.
Eben's AC is 29/18/22, mirror image has 8 images remaining.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Despite the awkward angle, Tanith presses the attack on the wounded roper near him.
"Keep your distance", the big man warns his friends behind him. "The tendrils are longer than they look and it tingles when they touch you."
Full attack.

Dungeon Kobold
Eben has perhaps too much fun as he brings his target down with one shot before turning to the further roper. Tanith cleaves his foe in half like a lumberjack chops down a tree.
I don't think you can switch targets, Tanith, but your target is very, very dead.
Round 2: Farrukh, Astraden and Clunk are up.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
There's no other targets in range but Tanith will take a step forward for next turn.
Farrukh Al`Khatel
Farrukh moves next to two of the Ropers and does a quick twist, lashing out with his shield at both of the nearby Ropers.
Vs. Roper 1: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (6) + 22 = 28
Damage?: 1d6 + 21 + 1d6 + 10d6 ⇒ (6) + 21 + (4) + (5, 2, 4, 2, 2, 4, 4, 5, 1, 6) = 66
Vs. Roper 2: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (17) + 22 = 39

If these attacks hit, they ignore any DR and the Ropers are knocked Prone if they're capable of being knocked Prone; I dun remember.
Dungeon Kobold
Can't be tripped, though they can probably normally be tipped. Not these ones, though. Can you remind me what abilities you're using when you use them?
You bring another roper down. Astraden.
Astraden Limhaare
Astraden hastily walks up, keeping her distance until the last moment when she dodges in next to Farrukh and attacks.
+1 keen aberration bane rapier (haste, good hope?): 1d20 + 15 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 15 + 1 + 2 = 33 Piercing, magic, bane (good hope): 1d6 + 4 + 2d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + (6, 2) + 2 + 2 = 20 Confirm?: 1d20 + 15 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 15 + 1 + 2 = 32 Critical damage: 1d6 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 12

I think you're drawing an AoO, right? Or is Farrukh shielding you?
Confirm: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 20 = 31
Oh, Come On, I Might Not Even Get To Use This Roll!: 8d8 + 36 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 5, 7, 2, 6, 1) + 36 = 68
Eben MacTeague
Shouldn't Farrukh have drawn and burned off those AoOs when he moved in? Unless they have Combat Reflexes or equivalent abilities.
Dungeon Kobold
He moved in... oh, hey, you're right! I didn't notice he'd moved that much. Thanks, Eben!
Unless Farrukh has a "no thanks" power that negates AoOs, he gets the fun crit. Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 75 It's a potential hit.
Farrukh Al`Khatel
Hm, I can TRY to negate it. Counters don't work on Natural 20s but a 19 is fair game.
Farrukh brings up his shield to try to intercept the attack.
Immediate action activating Steel Shell.
Opposed Attack: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (4) + 28 = 32
Well, that doesn't do it. But I do gain DR 20/- against the attack, so it hurts a bit less. The 31 did NOT confirm, so I'm not sure what the actual damage incoming is.
Dungeon Kobold
14 damage, then. I assume you didn't use any other Swift or Immediate actions on that turn?
Dungeon Kobold
After the DR (yeah, the rolls were perfectly split, so it really did roll 34 damage and then 34 more damage for the crit), and no, the bite doesn't deal Strength damage.
Dungeon Kobold
Effortlessly withstanding the brutal round of attacks and sweeping tendrils, Farrukh and Tanith hack and slash at the ropers, cleaving a path for Astraden to leap in and pierce her target's left eye with her godfather's aberration-hating rapier. The roper shrieks in mindless rage.
Round 2: Clunk.
Battered and nearly-broken by the onslaught of attacks and yanked fifteen feet by the ropers' tendrils, Clunk lands, coughing, and straightens. His wounds are already healing—very slowly. "The elder in the center is more intelligent than its children," he calls, as he hacks at the same roper Farrukh and Astraden struck. The abomination's runes pulse and glow as it snarls and spits.
109/158 damage taken by Clunk.
Full Attack (haste?): 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 20 + 1 = 341d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 20 + 1 = 331d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 15 + 1 = 321d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 1 = 291d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 13 + 1 = 34

Potential Crit: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 13 + 1 = 17 If Crit: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 3) + 3 = 11
Total of 63 damage, adding up to 154 damage. This roper is barely left standing.
I'll post the ropers' actions momentarily.
Round 2 Init Order:
Eben/Farrukh/Astraden/Clunk/Tanith
Ropers
Cuetzpalli/Carina
Dungeon Kobold
The panicked ropers continue to flee as the survivors fight viciously. The one being piled on opens its one good eye and eyes Astraden and her aberration bane weapon with single-minded hatred, as the crystal-enshrouded roper lets loose a shriek in the language of monsters.
"Astraden," Clunk says, "I do not think they like your weapon."
Sure enough, the injured roper tries to catch Astraden's arm in its toothy maw, and another sends its tendrils at her, as the rest attack Farrukh and Clunk.
Bite @Clunk (flank): 1d20 + 20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 20 + 2 = 38 Damage?: 4d8 + 18 ⇒ (1, 8, 4, 3) + 18 = 34 Clunk has taken 133 out of 158 damage. In other words, he's at 25 HP left.
Touch Attacks on Farrukh (Soft Cover, Into Melee): 1d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 221d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 181d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 221d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 81d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 161d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 121d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 71d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 101d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 191d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 171d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 91d20 + 10 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 10 - 4 - 4 = 9
Resolve your Miss Chances with the below rolls as needed—if there's one potential hit, use the first Miss Chance, and so on. Remember, high is always good for players, so the first, fifth, and seventh hits will miss anyways. Miss Chances: 1d100 ⇒ 21d100 ⇒ 501d100 ⇒ 481d100 ⇒ 311d100 ⇒ 111d100 ⇒ 61d100 ⇒ 141d100 ⇒ 271d100 ⇒ 63
Crits?: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
If any hit, use the following CMB rolls as needed (the first hit uses the first CMB check, and so on). Again, each win pulls you 5 feet east. CMB Checks: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (14) + 22 = 361d20 + 22 ⇒ (4) + 22 = 261d20 + 22 ⇒ (6) + 22 = 281d20 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 231d20 + 22 ⇒ (6) + 22 = 281d20 + 22 ⇒ (4) + 22 = 26
Also, if any hit, roll a DC 25 Fortitude save or take 1d6 Strength damage. Use these damage rolls, again, in order of hits (that bypassed concealment), not all attacks. Use two rolls if a crit confirms. Hope this all makes sense. 1d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 6
Damage: 4d8 + 18 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 3) + 18 = 31
Touch Attacks on Astraden (Into Melee): 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 4 = 181d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 10 - 4 = 231d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 10 - 4 = 191d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 4 = 181d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 10 - 4 = 191d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 10 - 4 = 24
If any of those hit, use these CMB checks—the first CMB check for the first hit, not the first attack (unless the first attack hits, and so on). CMB: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (13) + 22 = 351d20 + 22 ⇒ (8) + 22 = 301d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 241d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 241d20 + 22 ⇒ (17) + 22 = 391d20 + 22 ⇒ (10) + 22 = 32 For each successful CMB check, you are pulled northeast 5 feet (or northeast then north if there's not enough successes for 2 diagonals).
Also, if any hit, roll a DC 25 Fortitude save or take Strength damage. Use these damage rolls, again, in order of hits, not all attacks. 1d6 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 51d6 ⇒ 5
Round 2: Carina and Cuetzpalli are up!
Dungeon Kobold
For the record, I would not mind if someone wanted to help run Clunk. He's just a stock kolyarut for now. No pressure, but any of you are free to take over his actions whenever you like. Consider him the party's automaton—if you have an idea for what to do with him on a turn and he hasn't acted yet, you can roll for him.
Cuetzpalli
Cuetzpalli strides over to the nearest roper and takes an experimental swing at it.
Move, swift for AS
Kelmarchen (AS, PA): 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (13) + 23 = 362d6 + 25 ⇒ (3, 6) + 25 = 342d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Dungeon Kobold
That roper is fleeing in a panic, for the record. You can attack it, but you can also reach another enemy with your haste, I believe. Any roper with a black circle on it is panicked.
I would also let you move through the panicked ropers' space, if you want.
Carina Viera
Carina flinches for a moment when one of Eben's arrows whistles past her ear, carrying a few strands of hair with it.
But regardless, she moves up next to Tanith, looks at the nearest roper to the east of her, and throws a flashbang at it.
Flashbang *PBS, Haste, Good Hope, Inspired*: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20
Damn You Natural 1: Scatter!: 1d8 ⇒ 4
If it hits, DC 21 Fortitude Save or be Blinded for 1 minute. Any creatures in its splash radius must make the same save or be Dazzled for 1 minute.
Dungeon Kobold
Fort Save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
The bomb hits one of the roper's strands and smashes into the wall behind it. The brilliant lights cast prisms of color through the falling rain, and the roper seems mildly disconcerted.
Dazzled for 1 minute.
Eben MacTeague
Eben audibly sighs, now that there are no targets left for him to hit from an anonymously safe distance, then runs down to plunge himself into the middle of the stew. Once he has a spot (albeit one where he can feel dead roper tentacles squishing underfoot, gross) he spends a second picking between targets. then deciding on the mouthy one with the crystals. As he draws back his bow, he tries out a trick he hasn't made use of yet: mouthing a few words of a spell, he attaches it to the arrow's flight. Lastly, once the arrow is underway, he launches into the shuffling movement of the dance of 23 steps.
Move 60 feet, spend a swift action and a round of performance to activate my bow of songs, and making an arrowsong stike against the 'lead' roper, investing the attack with acid arrow. Activating dance of 23 steps as a free action.
longbow+bow of songs+good hope+inspire courage+haste+point blank shot-Deadly Aim: 1d20 + 21 + 6 + 2 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (14) + 21 + 6 + 2 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 3 = 45

Acid arrow damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
Acid last four more rounds on the roper, assuming he has that long. I'll roll for damage on my turns.
Eben's AC is 33/22/22, mirror image has 8 images remaining.
Dungeon Kobold
Waiting to see if Cuetzpalli wants to change his action, but you can assume it's Round 3 and Tanith's, Farrukh's, Clunk's and Astraden's turn.
If I don't hear back from him in an hour or so, I'll move him to attack one of the non-feared ropers.
Eben MacTeague
Oh, sorry. Did I jump the gun? Or jump the bow, as it were?
Dungeon Kobold
Cuetzpalli races around the wall of menhirs to slash a deep gash into the side of the roper Carina dazzled. Eben, meanwhile, sends an acid-wreathed arrow into the oldest roper's tough hide. It howls in gutteral agony as the acid sears its flesh.
Round 3: Farrukh, Clunk, Astraden and Tanith are up!
Farrukh Al`Khatel
So, attacks. Lemme parse this out lol.
Nat 20 hits...then misses via miss chance. 18 misses. Nat 20 hits, does not confirm, deals 3 potential Str damage. All of the following miss via being very low rolls.
Fort: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36
Looks like a pass to me lol.
Farrukh then full attacks the nearest Roper, stepping over to whack the big shiny one if the first dies prematurely.

The first Klaw attack that hits each target lowers that target's AC by 2 until the end of my next turn due to Stumbling Bash.
Fort: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Tanith moves in to join the attack on the roper flanked by Cuetzpalli and Astraden.
Move. Standard for destructive smite.
Attack (GMW, haste, inspire, good hope, power attack, flank): 1d20 + 21 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 2 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 21 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 2 - 3 + 2 = 36
Damage: 1d10 + 13 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 9 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 13 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 9 + 7 = 39
Dungeon Kobold
I can't update the map from this computer, but the roper Farrukh, Astraden and Clunk were fighting is down after the first attack. Also, by now you've noticed - the ropers seem totally unaffected by your electric attacks. Still, a total of 75 damage to Old Man Roper this round from Farrukh. He's hurt but not down.
Also, Astraden is not yanked through the roper's square and is not flanking. She's just adjacent to the roper now, same side as everyone else. Sorry for any confusion. That roper is still up.
Astraden and Clunk are up.
Astraden Limhaare
Second try on getting this post up . . .
Copycat on that first attack, low is bad for PCs: 1d2 ⇒ 1 And Astraden's AC is only 25 so she takes the hit [92/123]
Copycat on first touch attack: 1d2 ⇒ 2
5 hits with copycat taking the first, CMB 24 with haste so 5 cmb successes, so she is pulled 2 squares north and 2 squares east.
Fortitude (good hope): 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 13 + 2 = 24 4 Str damage
Fortitude (good hope): 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 2 = 34 4 Str damage
Fortitude (good hope): 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 13 + 2 = 29 4 Str damage
Fortitude (good hope): 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 13 + 2 = 30 4 Str damage
Fortitude (good hope): 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 13 + 2 = 22 9 Str damage
So Astraden has 7 Str left until she falls unconscious, and takes a -4 penalty to all Strength-based rolls. Thankfully, in Pathfinder I don't have to recalculate her carrying capacity.
Astraden is moved so quickly and with such violent force that she barely even notices the part of her foot that's been mangled by her target's stony teeth, or that her entire body is going numb. She wastes what little breath she has strength left to draw in replying to Clunk. "My weapon - kkhh - isn't - even that - gh h good!"
Quick Selective Channel, excluding the ropers that are already injured (up to 4 in case there's one I'm missing): 7d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 1, 1, 3, 5) = 18 Should heal everyone in the party including Clunk? Quick Channel, so it uses up two slots [5/7] [109/123]
She steps closer to Clunk and deposits her rapier on the ground next to the kolyarut. "Here, try -wheeze - it out!"
Concentration to cast defensively: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (6) + 19 = 25
She then turns back towards the roper that grabbed her, sizing it up. She takes a precious three seconds weaving in and out of the battle, trying to summon one of Olidammara's gifts despite the distraction of being in the middle of a roper bloodbath and not being able to feel her fingers. And it seems like she is successful, as she shambles forward and jabs out at the roper with an open palm wreathed in violet chaotic energy.
Touch of chaos (haste, good hope, Str damage): 1d20 + 12 + 1 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 12 + 1 + 2 - 4 = 22 If that hits: For the next round, anytime the target rolls a d20, they must roll twice and take the less favorable result.
So that's a move (channel), no (5' step), free (drop weapon), and standard (defensively cast touch of chaos). [6/7]

And the award for 'how to make this combat more annoying for KC' goes to...

Sorry I missed until now, I'll go ahead and hit that one anyway since it was what I posted.

I think it would be best to let it ride as-is, since we're already in the new round, unless you have a specific reason you wouldn't want to enter the main melee.

Taking KC up on her offer to put my hand inside Clunk's puppethead, just to expedite things. He is going to decline Astraden's rapier for the moment, since at 25 HP, eating three potential AoOs from picking something up seems unwise.
"Thank you, Astraden, but for the moment I feel my optimal probability of avoiding temporary shutdown is through continued use of my own weapon." the kolyarut rumbles, as he continues to hack away at the opposition.
5-foot step north, full attack on Big Daddy Roper.

Actually, neglected to consider that Clunk wouldn't be affected by either good hope or Inspire Courage, so deduct 5 from each attack and damage roll.

I can't do the round's round-up or ropers' full actions tonight, but I've updated the map. Grandpa Roper is still up. Clunk is now at 30 HP thanks to his regeneration. The ropers are up.
Also, thanks very much for running Clunk this round. +50 xp for Eben.
