We won't officially be starting until the 25th, but I'm going to post the briefing and get the introductions going until then.

You all receive an urgent call to the Lorespire Complex, where Venture-Captain Arvin is waiting for you. The tall and confident lashunta man gestures to several functional chairs, inviting you to sit. “Thank you for arriving so quickly. As I mentioned in my comm message, we have an urgent opportunity to recover some critical information."

“Several months ago, a crew of Starfinders took a ship called the Unbounded Wayfarer into the Vast to explore a series of uncharted planets. They never returned. Earlier today, a vesk pawnbroker in the Downlow neighborhood contacted us, offering to sell us several Starfinder insignias. These insignias belonged to the lost crew of the Unbounded Wayfarer, and that immediately caught the Society’s attention. The pawnbroker — named Julzakama — doesn’t realize the true value of the insignias. We negotiated a purchase price in exchange for the insignias and information about the seller. We hope this seller can lead us to the Unbounded Wayfarer and its crew."

“We’ve remotely transferred the requested credits to Julzakama. Now, we need you to collect the insignias and all the information you can from the vesk regarding whoever sold him the insignias, and then track down that seller. Learn where to find the Unbounded Wayfarer and its crew. I’m worried that the seller might not be on the station for long, so act quickly. If you have any questions, please make them fast.”

A lightly armored muscular green Vesk stands in the back of the room, arms crossed, as he listens to the briefing by Venture-Captain Arvin. He grunts a few times as certain bits of information seem to rub him the wrong way. Circling his head is a mote of blue energy that he hardly seems to notice.

"It is my mission to protect the Society. I do not need to ask any questions, I will find what happened to the Unbound Wayfarer crew."

His speech is halting, and slow, but full of confidence as his tail thumps the ground loudly and he puffs his chest out.

Next to the Vesk, two pairs of arms motionlessly hanging from the lean torso covered by what seem to be the clothings of a scholar, his face half-hidden behind a red scarf, a Kasatha has listened to the Venture-captain's report.

"I have heard of this pawnbroker. Not a nice guy, it seems, and no one I would normally trade with, but allegedly a coward, so if he doesn't talk, there might be ... ways ... to convince him otherwise."

S'karu nods to Arvin.

"This sounds like there is an interesting tale to hear that should not be lost in the Vast. Doy you have information where we can find this Julzakama?

Oh, and I'm S'karu, and I'm glad to make your acquaintance.",

he adds, looking to the other Starfinders in the room.

A tall, lithe lashunta looks up from a tactical holographic display, rising from his arm, which has been running a series of calculations.

"If what you say is true, it sounds like time is of the essence. Do have anyone here who is skilled at aggressive negotiations...?"

Another Vesk stands at the shoulder of the first, though this one wears heavier armour marked with the symbol of Iomadae. He carries a longword in a scabard at his side and has a large bore gun on a strap around his back.

"If this trader has made a deal then he should stick to his bargain. Only an honourless cur would make a deal they do not intend to keep! If this Vesk needs convincing then so be it."

He looks around the room taking in the other people gathered for the meeting with Venture Captain Arvin.

"My name is Taugortaval, though you may call me Taugor or even Tau if you prefer. I'm here to help the Starfinders with some muscle backed up by the values i hold dear as one of the faithful of Iomadae."

Will scans Taugor with his bracer, which shows a momentary overlay of a Vesk cardiovascular/nervous system, before nodding.

"Aye, that should do it. It sounds like you will be a real asset, Taugor. The name's Riker, by the way. Will Riker."

Bonrakoru laughs as Taugortavol speaks and slaps his fellow Vesk on the back.

"It is always nice to have another one of my people on a mission! Between the two of his, this trader will be shaking in his boots. Oh, I am Bonrakoru of course, but you probably knew that already."

The solarian smiles again and thumps his tail excitedly on the floor to show that he is ready to go.

The damaya nods in agreement. "He runs a pawnshop called Julzakama’s Loans and is an unusually arrogant vesk. I don’t know him, but I get the impression that I wouldn’t like him much if I did.” Venture-Captain Arvin also provides directions to Julzakama’s shop.

Downlow is a poor and densely-populated section of the Spike that extends below Absalom Station. Julzakama’s shop is less than an hour from the Lorespire Complex, the headquarters of the Starfinder Society, and reaching the run-down store is fairly simple. Although some areas of Downlow are clean and trendy, this narrow alley of concrete and metal buildings drips with oil and sparking wires. A wide, red neon electric sign reads “Julzakama’s Loans” on a building sandwiched between a Kuthite sensation house and a derelict building covered with graffiti. The shop’s solid metal door contains a single, small window too grimy to peer through. The interior of Julzakama’s Loans is crammed with shelves containing all manner of near-valueless items, from small appliances to VR game consoles and jars of colored powders. The shop has the acrid smell of a reptile house that has not been cleaned in months. A massive vesk in a muscle shirt stands at the rear of the shop, behind a low desk and a series of heavy metal bars anchored into the ceiling.

Julzakama is busy carelessly disassembling an old computer when you enter, but he stops and looks up once the door opens. "Hmm, whaddaya want? Hurry up, before I decide to have a lashling snack." The vesk flicks his tongue menacingly at Will.

"Try it, and you'll see how many bones I know how to break with my hands." Bonra growls at the other Vesk, as he puffs his chest and narrows his eyes.

"We have some questions for you. And you're going to answer them...honestly. Otherwise we're going to have problems."

Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

He keeps his gaze fixed on Julzakama, waiting for the others to ask what they need to.

Julzakama only respects other vesk, so you also get an additional +2 bonus on your intimidate checks.

"We're here to collect those Starfinder insignias you offered to our organization. And just out of curiosity, we'd also like to know where do you got them?"

S'raku keeps his voice neutral, though he's making sure not to stand between the two Vesks in case Julzakama should react to Bonrakoru's challenge in the wrong way.

"The deal was already made. Us being here is just a formality. Hand over the items and information that was agreed and we will leave you to... whatever it is you do here." says Taugortaveol with his thumb hooked through the weapon belt that holds his sword scabbard.

Unfortunately the scabbard unlatches and the scowd clatters to the ground making the big Vesk soldier look a little foolish.

Julzakama folds quickly at Bonraku's display, and slides a box containing the insignias through the bars. "All right, all right; the seller was named Exegara, and she wasn’t from around here. Wore a flight suit, like she had come off a long trip. Once she had her money, she asked about where to purchase clean skeletons. I don’t carry goods like that, so I sent her to the Vat Garden.” He glances at Bonraku and continues, “She was definitely an Eoxian. She looked like a man-ling, but didn’t breathe or blink or anything. Asked me where to find some local muscle, too, just in case.”

"A few more questions then. Did this Exegara have anything to identify which vessel she came from? How good "is" the local muscle and where might that be?" Telgan asked.

"Clean skeletons?" Bonra blinks in surprise but keeps his eyes on Julzakama. "Muscle I can handle, and have done in the past, but what would she need a clean skeleton for? Was it a specific kind?"

Taugortavol waits until evryone has left Julkazama's shop before commenting about the skeletons.

"Needing skeletons sounds like dark magic or necromancy to me. Whoever this Exegara is she could be dangerous, we should be careful."

The trip to the Gardens is a quick one, 10 minutes or so. The station passageways open into an enormous sunken pool filled with a riotous growth of plants. A narrow walkway leading to other parts of Downlow encircles the overgrown vat, and a spire of some kind of machinery stands in its center. For such a busy section of Downlow, the area is surprisingly quiet. Two ladders and a steep staircase pierce the foliage and lead down into the vat.

The lashunta looks up from his data feed, and stares dubiously at the ladders.

"Who wants to go down first...?"

"I will go." Bonra says, gripping hold of the first ladder and descending. "Make sure you keep up, wouldn't want to have all the fun!" He says with a big Vesk smile as the blue mote of light circles around him shedding small amounts of light.

Culture: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

"Just wait a sec." the Kasatha calls behind Bonrakorus back, holding his voice low so as not to be heard by any other bystanders.

"Just remembered something about the Vat Gardens. A rumor I heard that the Ysoki running this would use corpses as fertilizers, so this Exegara going here to get skeletons suddenly starts to make sense to me. Though I still have no idea what she would want to do with it."

"I'm with you when we're ready to go, Bonraku. Two Vesk brothers standing shoulder to shoulder!"

"Then hurry up! Cause I'm not waitin' any longer!" Bonrakoru says with a smile to Taugortavol. He waits briefly to see what S'karu has to say, but it only makes him rush down the ladder even faster.

Satisfied that the wall of Vesk muscle should prove to be a sufficient barricade versus anything hostile below, the Lashunta follows them down the ladder.

Telgan joined the others as they made their way down the ladder. Once on firm ground, the Tecnnomancer pulled out his laser and scanned the area for any problems.

Without hesitation, S'karu follows his companions, using his four hands to climb down the ladders with a surprising speed.

The Vat Gardens are curiously deserted, and as you approach you can hear some shuffling in the thick rows of plants. A thin ghoul dressed in a flight suit and cloak is piling some skulls next to her, while three thugs stand watch. Once you're spotted, they cry out. "Jarvin, Glurge, go get them!" Two of the thugs pull out laser pistols and take shots at the vesks.

Laser pistol versus Bonrakoru: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
Laser pistol versus Taugortavol: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3

Due to the thick plants, attack from the catwalk have a 50% miss chance. Down in the vat, attacks from 10' or farther have a 20% miss chance. The catwalk is 15' up, and a DC 15 Athletics check can be made to climb down the side of the catwalk instead of using the ladders.

Bonra growls as the laser flies past his head, as he does, the mote of light expands, covering the Vesk in a suit of shining blue translucent armor. Using his significant strength to keep him steady the lizard rushes down the side of the catwalk toward the nearest thug and launching a fist at him, though the strike is not very accurate.

Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

The Lashunta narrows its eyes, taps something into the data-pad on its arm, and manifests three bolts of force, which slam into the blue thug!

Magic Missile (Full Round Action): 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) + 3 = 13 Force damage.

S'karu follows Bonrakorus example, climbing down the ladder and directly stepping to the side, so that the others can follow. Then he fires a shot at the thug standing left to the central structure.

Taugor moves along the edge of the gantry away from the ladder and unstraps his reaction cannon from his back.

He tries to aim for the ghoulish looking woman and takes a shot.

"If you surrender now and i will show mercy in Iomadae's name, but if you insist on continuing to defile my home station you will be shown none!"

Riker's magic knocks one of the thugs off his feet, and the thug twitches and then falls still. Taugortavol fires his reaction cannon at the cloaked woman, getting a good shot off between the plant stalks obscuring the vats.

Telgan, not wanting to join the others on the ground, took a shot at one of the thugs. only to blast bits of vegetation in the process.

Askara decides to stay on the platform to take advantage of the cover, but gives detailed instructions to Scouty, his drone, which flies from behind his back to soar 15' above the ground, and opens fire on the thug in front of it.

The ghoul fires her laser pistol at S'karu and scorches his shoulder. The thugs grin and switch to their assault hammers, swinging at Bonrakoru and the kasatha.

Bonra growls as the assault hammer takes him in the ribs but the Vesk quickly adjusts and plows both of his fists into the thug.

"Your hammers don't scare me punk!" He says through grinning teeth.

The Lashunta, satisfied with his previous volley, fires another one, this time splitting the bolts between Bonrakoru's target, and the ghoul.

S'karu cries out in pain when the simultaneous attack of ghoul and thug nearly bring him down. "Could use some help!" he presses through his scarf, then he brings some distance between himself and his attacker, before calling on the mystical energies of the universe to protect him from further harm.

Telgan started going part way down the ladder and stopped. Pointing his hand out, a very weak wave of fire erupted from it.

Move part way down the ladder in order to reach the green thug without him getting an AO on me. Standard: cast Overheat DC 15 reflex.

Askara prepares to come down from the catwalk while he types a new set of instructions for Scouty. The drone hovers down and moves to point its semi-auto straight at the thug's face.
"I'm counting on you, buddy. Show them what you're made of."

Scouty the drone's damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

"Right in the whiskers! Good shot, Scouty!"

Seeing that the woman isn't going to surrender, Taugor aims his reaction cannon at her again and takes another shot.

Reaction cannon attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

His aim is way off as the shot goes nowhere near his target.

"Blasted plants! I think its time to get up close and personal". he says to himself as he steps back tot he ladder while putting his gun back on his back.

The magic dart, combined with Bonrakoru's scaly fists and Scouty's gun take the thug down. As S'karu casts his spell, the assault hammer slams into him. Energy arcs off of him and strikes the thug as he collapses. Telgan slides down the ladder and scorches the thug in retaliation. The ghoul fires her pistol at Bonrakoru and just penetrates his armor and scales. The thug looks around after dropping the mystic and spots his friends on the ground and hurries to the other ladder.

"Take care of her and get S'karu up! I'll handle this one!" Bonra says as he moves toward the thug on the ladder and slams a fist into his back.

With others in hot pursuit of the remaining thug, Telgan headed to help deal with Exegara, unleashing another gout of flame in her direction.

well, actually I was hoping that he would miss with that AoO because as I understand it, the spell would fizzle otherwise and have no effect. I had unluckily posted before I saw that my guarded step wouldn't bring S'karu out of his opponents reach, and didn't want to edit afterwards (would have been kinda cheating to me).
