I galna crash...
here's the setup:
a-r top; 1-18 side; trees 25 feet in diameter centered on squares c3, p3,c16, p16; they hold the platform up; which is a rectangular wooden platform f-m 40 feet by 4-15 60 feet. The platform is 30 feet off the ground.
C.E. is at f5, and Jody is at m5. The stove is at J6. It's about 3 hours into the first watch, it's pitch black, and the swamp is alive with frogs, grunting crocs, barking dogs, bullywug bagpipes far off, and other questionable sounds--hoodoos and whateverthedeuces.
Altai and whoever else is on 1st watch, choose a space; everybody else choose a sleeping square and whether or not you're snoozing in your armor; also
Altai and whoever else decides to be on first watch....
Doubt I'll be able to post tomorrow at work, but I'll see what I can do to keep things going best I can.
Elgan Dreadwood
Our ever-shifting Elf will also take first watch.
After their 'hosts' roll up in their blankets, Elgan shimmers and shifts into a lean, grey wolf. He pads softly around the tree house, as if checking the perimeter, then pads quietly over to Altai. He takes a curious sniff of Altai's spell components pouch, then sneezes. He shakes his head and his tongue hangs out in Canine laughter.
He then takes up a position opposite of Altai, so they can watch each other's backs, and assumes the 'faithful watchdog' position. His ears perk up with every new sound, and his head constantly swivels back and forth, trying to see what he is hearing.

Altai; Elgan...
Beldan Vale
Beldan plans to take watch with CE (not trusting the man as far as he can spit), but his distrust and general dislike of the swamp keeps him mostly awake through the first watch anyway. He knows he’s likely to be fatigued come morning if he doesn’t get some proper rest … but why does this swamp have to be so darn noisy.
He’s curled up, dozing, head resting uncomfortably on his bundled up armour, at J9, trying to keep one eye cracked open in CE’s direction.

Gittik; Riese; Stiggy:
you guys are asleep on first watch. Feel free, again, to choose a square. Something is going down, so also feel free to make a reflex or a wil save, d.c. 12, whichever is highest to be awakened. If so, you can read all the spoilers so far; as well as take a move action to stand and a standard action of some kind. If not you are in slumberland.
(edit)oh, yeah; Stiggy--feel free to make the same save for your mutt, who can then lick your face awake or something...;)
Riese
1d20 5=18 will. I guess I wake up. I am sleeping somewhere within 10 or so feet of Altai, I don't have time to do up a map to figure out exactly but assume I get up and speak to Altai to ask...."What is afoot, good man? I sense a disturbance in the force." If there is time to Riese is gonna drop a couple 'light' spells to illuminate the area better, near the edges of our encampment. If not he has a fiery burst or Riese's Acid Arrow to toss about.
Riese
Map so far.
BTW I placed Riese in I13. Also Riese cast light on a button pulled from his robe and is clenching it in his hand so it doesn't light the area.....yet.
Elgan Dreadwood
Elgan's ears perk up, and he raises his head as he hears scrabbling noises from below. HE slowly gets up and shakes himself alert. He then sees the 'gumbo brothers' getting up. Turning his attention back to his trunk, Elgan backs up slowly, starts to growl, then stops himself.
With a shimmer, he turns back into an elf, and still on his knees whispers a spell. His skin takes on a darker, rougher tone. He looks over his shoulder to see Riese next to Altai. He waves at them, points at the tree trunk, and waggles his fingers, ending with clamping his hands together like he caught something. He then points to the casters, and to the other tree trunks.
BAck up to L14, cast Barkskin. Trying to warn Altai and Riese that I'm casting Entangle next, and they should cover the other directions. That's about all I can see doing in a round. If time permits, or I go first, Will cast entangle on the tree trunk in front of me, hoping to catch whatever it is in it's effect. IF they get topside before my move, I'll shift.

Right on....
somebody roll initiative, because...
there's a "boomf" sound, and smell of sulfurous brimstone. At ij10-11 appears your friend the barghest; he's bigger now. In h10, k10, and L10, all facing Beldan, are three....creatures. Their overly largish heads combine the worst features of rat and dog, and their skin falls off in flakes. A bald ratlike tail swishes in the darkness between their legs, though they stand, and hold longswords like men; these scabrous rats that walk. (they're about 5 feet tall, i.e. medium). Red beady rat's eyes dart from partymember to partymember, and they tremble with anticipation.
"Aaaaah, my friends....that was a tasty meal of giant you cooked me. And now I've arrived for my just desserts."
Initiative; beat a 15!!!
"I aincher friend, f&%~nut!" Says C.E.
Altai Iscarni
Altai steps around Riese. Once he gets to his chosen spot, he launches a blast of searing fire.
Move to J13 via I14 before casting Burning hands. It hits the barghest and the two rats east of it. They take 14 points of fire damage, Reflex 16 halves it. I have a Magic missile and a Ray of enfeeblement left - after that, it is scrolls and wands only.
Elgan Dreadwood
Elgan turns, startled, to find the center of the platform occupied by the barghest and his rat fiend friends. HE blinks as Altai, Beldan and Gittik attack without hesitation,...
"AWwww,... Shiuut!" HE mumbles as he belatedly starts frantically waving his hands. The wind and leaves whip around him as he conjures the summoning magic,...
Hoping that they don't get to me this round, cuz the summoning spell won't go off till next! If they do, I'm pretty much counting on my armor and Barkskin to save my @$$. I'm trading in a prot/energy 3rd lvl spell to summon some help. Haven't decided what yet! D20 online is down, can't research which critter I want right now, i'll post it later. I still have my produce flame and Flaming Sphere, but I didn't really want to open up with those,... on top of a wooden platform,... while up in tree! ;P

The barghest and ratman(in k10) take the full brunt of the blast; the one in l10 looks back; dodges somewhat, and is merely singed.

"HNNNNNNNAAAAAAGH!"
Rage on, baby! Tumble to J9 - roll = 18 + 9 = 27 - and stick the barghest with my scimitar. Roll = 6 + 12 = 18. Damage = 1 + 6 = 7.
Gittik drives and rolls to be up by the huge intruder, and swings with his weapon at its knees.
The lupine horror roars at Gittik, and moves the leg in question aside, missed by the halfling's swing.

The magic starts weaving in the wind, calling to cornucopia for.....
Snarfs!!! j/k

they're not demons. The fire prolly wouldn't burn them, number one, and they don't exactly look like the pictures from the books. There is a certain breed of beast, though, the goblin dog (from Burnt Offerings ;)) that does brook with goblinoids as worgs do. These look like humanoid/goblin dog hybrid critchers...
Riese
Riese gestures towards the Barghest, "Accurotni en'forcier Dri-ot!" and three bolts of force shaped like fiery, fat, buzzing bubblebees fly unerring to strike the large wolf-like creature in his posterior3d4 3=10 damage from magic missile. "Hope you don't mind, lupine demon, but your mandibular area was hardly discernible from your caudal end orifice, by my viewpoint. Hee-hee."
Riese pulls out his cutlass and prepares to defend himself and Altai.

Barghest yowls in pain and fury.
"Next I will alter your mien of arrogant nonchalance to one of hysterical shrieking," is all Barghest utters from a mouth all too full of teeth.
