After mulling it over for a bit (and the forum eating my first preview), I settled on trying for a trip. And it's looking promising! :)
Edit: I don't think I explicitly said it, but Acacius is right-handed and wears his spiked gauntlet on his right hand. This may become relevant if the troll gets close to him.
@DMDE: On that note, would Acacius be able to keep a hold of his polearm with his left hand and lash out with his right gauntlet as an AOO?

Your attack roll wasn't enough to re-trip the flood troll anyway, and the damage you did killed it, so worked out for the best. Him being prone also allowed Zan's roll to be a hit even while entangled.

That's perfectly fine. The last time I played a tripper was a Knight back in 3.5 which could and did "triplock" enemies. So I felt the need to confirm when I realised that might not be the case in Pathfinder. I never intended for Acacius to rely solely on that tactic though, and I'm still quite pleased with his performance so far. :)

Oh sure. Acacius does fine once he's in a fight. Outside it is a little more challenging!
Just to note, my rate of posting will likely be down this weekend.
This assassin attack is supposed to occur while you are asleep in your hotel rooms, but since you are all residents in different places, that wasn't going to happen. Because you are awake at least you get the benefit of reacting quickly. My tabletop nearly TPK'ed on this fight because they were slow to wake up.
It is a bit loaded, but certainly is surprising...

I'm most worried about Zirelle on the flank, being a sorceror getting ambushed is little fun. Nakoma too a nasty hit too though.

Yeah. Acacius could have gone either way. I decided to go to the left flank because Nakoma is already badly hurt and there's another assassin lining up a surprise round charge on her.

Possibly but it could be a funky spell or class feature, either way it's a cool but tense set up for the fight.

Just to confirm if Acacius can do this or not. Though regardless, I bet that assassin now regrets tossing down their blade!
I can't find a rule about that in any location, so my ruling is from feeling and not fact. If you find a better ruling, send me a link.
I don't think you can make a gauntlet attack while holding a two-handed weapon. If it were a one-handed weapon and you wanted to swing with off-hand, I could see that.

Yeah kind of one of those situations where we know so much information but the PC instinct is to actively pursue. Sometimes a bit of patience is needed.
Sorry if it's a bit frustrating, but you did approach this whole mystery section a bit backwards. It's intended for the groups to be led to the ruins of the Plague House by the clues they unravel, but for some reason you went there first. So, most groups spend this day fighting off the uglies inside there, while you'll have a day to help with preparations. Will advance to the funeral scene that evening when you are ready.
Just a note you may find interesting. MY RL group got to this point and decided to round up all the half-orcs in Trunau, using the guard to help with the search. Even though they were warned away from such racial profiling by Halgra, Sara, and a few others, they proceeded anyway, and really struggled to be seen as heroes in town after that. It also didn't help net them Skreed and they didn't have time to find any real conspirators.

It's impossible for an adventure writer to anticipate every possible party action. On the other hand, some writers don't anticipate *any* deviation from what they think is the 'correct' way.
I can imagine that a half-orc PC would have a tough time of it in this book, but could have some great roleplay with the likes of Draktani. Or Skreed, should he show up soon.

Yeah, we went to the Plague House early cause it was built into Zirelle's backstory that she's been wanting to explore there, so why not? Lucky for us, she did! Haha.
