Kraygan scans the assembled giants, happy to have finally reached the VIP room of the volcano.

”It’s like an album o’ me greatest hits. Hill, slag, frost, fire... what, no stone? Pity.”

♪ Theme Music ♪

When it becomes clear the king is going to accept the challenge Kraygan begins preparing for battle - loosening weapons, tightening buckles, stretching muscles, passing gas. He completes the ritual by tying Rogzul’s lace to his arm, like a real knight donning a lady’s favor.

He doesn’t trust the king to honor the queen’s challenge. At least not after he cuts down one or two of the giant b@stards. Riding into this is very likely a death trap, but that’s nothing new to this group, and even Alysendra seems at peace with it. Or maybe she’s just like the rest of them - crazy enough to be totally confidant.

He’s a little slow on the draw, but gets into action soon enough. Grabbing a potion, he throws it down and grows large in Haggis’ saddle - for the first time the yak is big enough to handle the added weight. Kraygan then glares at the giants, considering how best to take them down.

Enjoy the same hell I've been in for the last few months. Summon your ass out of that why don't you?

Kraygan just barely holds back from wiping out the rest of the giants. Reigning Haggis away from violence he takes a minute to calm down and lets the others be reasonable with the Queen.

Alysendra keeps her eyes open in case the Queen and other giants change their minds, and helps with striping the fallen of their magical booty. She's somewhat surprised that the dwarves are honoring the bargain, and even more surprised that she is as well. We must save our strength for this "storm tyrant"... without them, the other giants will scatter like the cowards they are.

Wren begins to scavenge through the belongings. Wren has grown quite adapt at identifying the magical properties of items. These prove to be a trivial task indeed.

Maija, the Frost Giant Ambassador

  • Potion of CSW (2)
  • Large +1 Heavy Mace
  • +4 Headband of Vast Intelligence

Gervas

  • Potion of CSW (3)
  • Tangleburn Bag (3)
  • Large +1 Mithral Scale Mail
  • Large +2 Glaive

Rek, Hill Giant Ambassador

  • Potion of CSW (2)
  • Large +2 Chainmail
  • Large +2 Lucerne Hammer
  • Amulet of Natural Armor +1
  • Belt of Mighty Constitution +2

King Tytarian

  • Potion of CSW (3)
  • Large +1 Adamantine Full-Plate
  • Large +1 adamantine human-bane halberd
  • Brooch of Shielding (89 points remaining)
  • Cloak of Resistance +3
  • Crown of Conquest
  • Dusty Rose Prism Ioun Stone
  • Ring of Minor Cold resistance
  • Prisoner's Dungeon Ring

The Queen holds her hand out to Farin. "The crown..." her voice cracks with emotion.

Just as Wren finishes looking over all of the gear the Azer summoner suddenly blips in from his time in the maze. The Azer's eyes look frantic and haggard. he looks around as sees that the fight has been long over. He drops to his knees and mumbles to himself. "So...many yaks...." He looks to Haggis and backs away into the wall, wanting nothing more than to run away."[/b]

The table has several maps of the Mindspin Mountains and surrounding nations, with key tactical locations marked. Tytarian and the senior officers use the f lags and stones to plot army deployments and potential resistance from notable monsters or humanoid forces.

Buried in the paperwork on the table are what looks like notes taken during a meeting between Tytarian and his captains, in which they discussed Ironcloud Keep and the possibility of the fire giants seizing the cloud castle for themselves. The notes contain two important pieces of information. The first is that the castle is surrounded by some sort of energy field that prevents f light or teleportation directly into the castle. Smaller entrances exist in the rocky base that supports the keep; these are not contained within the keep’s energy field, but they’re concealed in the cloud that envelops the castle’s base and are guarded.

The second piece of information is that the engine that magically propels Ironcloud Keep and keeps it aloft is outfitted with some kind of dead man’s switch that can trigger a powerful explosive hidden somewhere near the castle’s engine room. The switch is somehow connected to the magical crown that the Storm Tyrant wears. Tytarian learned this during a meeting with Volstus, where the
Storm Tyrant made it very clear that even if someone were to betray him, it would mean the traitor’s own end once the castle was in the air. From the notes, it appears that the fire giants eventually resolved not to attack the castle and to remain loyal to the Storm Tyrant—at least for now.

Beside the thrones stands a pedestal illuminated by a continual f lame spell, which holds a valuable trophy claimed from a fallen enemy—a Large warhammer. Taking a closer look at tthe warhammer Wren finds it to be a:

  • Large +3 Returning Warhammer

DC 35 Spellcraft:
You actually recognize this legendary artifact as a Hammer of Thunderbolts! If in the hands of an individual wearing a belt of giant strength it becomes a +5 Large giant-bane returning thundering warhammer with the following two properties. First, when the bearer makes a successful thrown attack with the hammer, the hammer emits a powerful clap of thunder, causing all creatures within 90 feet to be stunned for 1 round (Fortitude DC 15 negates); the wielder is not immune to this effect. Second, the hammer’s range increment increases to 30 feet.

If it is bathed in the blood of a fire giant king or queen, it temporarily gains two additional powers for the next 9 days: the bearer gains resistance 30 against fire and sonic damage, and gains immunity to the stunning effect of the hammer’s clap of thunder.

Farin looks to Wren to see if he would like to examine the crown before handing it over.

Don't necessarily want to give up some powerful artifact, but if it turns out to be mundane, I have no problem turning it over. Don't recall it being part of the deal, though...

So, before we take the secret passage, will we be transporting anywhere to clean up? Farin has a broken sword (still) to mend, and probably needs to grab some potions or scrolls to be more effective. Maybe even a new pair of shoes. And can we resize armor and weapons somehow??

Wren doesn't need to see the crown.

"A deal is a deal."

Wren gathers and packs up the gear...pausing at the large warhammer that he can barely lift.

1d20 + 20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 20 + 2 + 2 = 33 Spellcraft

He shrugs, thinking that he'll have to look it over tomorrow. He's too wound up from the battle to worry about it now.

Wren will need more time to study everything, but makes mental notes about process.

"Shall we proceed up to examine the castle? Or find a quiet spot to ponder and discuss?" Wren asks, almost ignoring the giantkin around him.

The Queen grabs ahold of the crown and tucks it away. She draws her half-demon daughter close. "Gather the giants from Ashpeak. We leave as soon as they can get everything packed." She nods to the group. "A deal is a deal." She orders the remaining guards from the room and looks back at her now third deceased husband one final time, with a sorry filled face. "The room is yours, My Clan will be gone as soon as they finish packing." She nods her head to the north. "The tunnel entrance is there. Just left of the thrones. That will lead into the crater where you will find the Storm Tyrant."

@Farin-It was the Crown of Conquest. That is up to you if you are going to be transporting anywhere to clean and / or stock up. The group does indeed own a mythical / legendary forge and hammer that can resize and forge new equipment.

Kraygan marches over to the king and grabs the crown. ”This was nay part o’ the deal, but we’ll give it to ye on the condition that ye not name a new king until after we’ve confronted the Storm Tyrant. I don’t want one o’ yer sons joinin him fer revenge.”

Taking out his dwarven axe, Kraygan places the crown on the table and strikes it three times. Not to destroy, but to mark the inside of the band with the dwarven rune symbolizing the first letter of his name. ”As a reminder that we showed mercy and didn’t wipe yer clan off the face of Golarion.” He tosses it to the queen.

Once the deal is struck, Kraygan favors rest and time to make plans. Maybe even make a short return to Minderhal’s Forge to resize some weapons and armor and restock supplies.

Once the fire giants leave, Alysendra turns to the group. "It sounds like we must get into this cloud castle before it takes off. How are you all in terms of resources?" She'd like to rest and replenish spells, having used a lot while fighting without equipment in the first battle, but doesn't want to miss the chance to sneak into the castle now. "I have plenty of healing, but few offensive spells left."

Of the gear, the only thing Alysendra would be interested in is the belt of Con, as she doesn't have one.

Wren quickly realizes that Alysendra is right. The King wore a prisoner's dungeon ring. More than likely so that the Storm Tyrant could keep tabs on the Fire Giant's status within Ashpeak. With the King's death Volstus would definitely know of the attack.

At the mentioning of the cloud castle taking off the Queen nods. "Volstus will know of your attack. He will more than likely plan on faster repairs of the castle and look to setting to the air where he will be well out of reach."

Don't get it wrong, you do have time to travel to Minderhal's Forge and swap out equipment, just not months to travel or craft new weapons and the like.

Farin takes the ioun stone, if no one objects. If we have some cash, I might look to get some upgraded equipment. But I don't see much on the list that will suit Farin.

Wren shakes his head, realizing that these mortal giants might not have the near mythic powers of a great elven wizard (not that he does either, but he's trying to think that way).

"Do you know if the castle has bindings against teleportation, m'Queen? Seems to me that they cannot run nor hide truly from the bending of time and space. Once I have seen the castle, I can get to it."

I mostly think that at least.

I was just thinking about a nap, not a shopping trip - but then, I just got to do my shopping from scratch when I joined. I can go either way - if we have the time, it makes sense to clear out of here and rest in relative safety.

Wren nods, not having time to really read the notes yet. Uh, sorry. Missed that in my brain. Doy.

Wren ponders what to do next, and is inclined to go examine the castle now to determine what he can fully from outside before deciding what to do next. Probably to back to the forge or to Kaer Maga to re-equip.

When the party is ready, Wren will follow them up to look for themselves. He will scan what he can scan with Detect Magic.
