Yea, they got crazy abilities for CR2. In subtier 4-5, they are CR7 with SR and summons! Hint* You can still complete the mission without winning the battle. Spoiler* Had your group not gotten in combat with the monkey swarm, they would have returned to help you in this boss fight.
Eazy Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Naruda Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Naruda recalls from rumors that the Asuras are extraplanar with certain abilities. [DR 5/cold iron or good]
While Alarin was on the other side around the enclosure, he saw for just a moment...A large statue of a monkey-faced man sits on a pedestal at the north end of this small shrine. The statue’s arms and legs are missing, and deep scratches have been gouged into its face. Pieces of broken stone, rotting plant matter, and other assorted rubbish lie in heaps on the floor of this room. The smell of rot is particularly strong here.

Eazy keeps flinging acid at the same target.
Plink, plink: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

Ito smites the closest Asura and flings another stone from his borrowed sling.
Sling, Smite: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 4 = 9 Damage, Smite: 1d3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4
If asura is outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature then +2 damage. I also have +4 AC against the target.

"I don't think our weapons are going to work against these things!"
Naruda steps forward and fires a ray of frost at the most injured looking asura.
ray of frost: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Ice damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2

GM Pathmaker |

Alarin hits it again in the face. Teke's bolt, Eazy's acid, Ito's bullet, Naruda's ray - all strike the embankment. The asuras volleys back at the paladin, missing both shots.

Annoying little creatures! Just go away!
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

GM Pathmaker |

Eazy’s acid splash gets over the barrier and burns the creature but Teke’s bolt hits the embankment. Alarin blasts the asura again with Magic Missiles. Ito pops it solid on the noggin with a Holy Smite and it drops limp!
The remaining Asura fights on, gets revenge on Ito with an arrow to the chest.

Teke's bolt hits the asura but does little damage. [DR] Only Alarin gives the creature a good gash. Even with Naruda's guidance, Eazy's shot misses. Ito's bullet bounces off its skin harmlessly.
It fires back, missing by far.

If we leave and come back tomorrow I can smite it. This thing is nuts. I can't do enough damage to bypass the DR so I'll move back into cover.

Eazy splashes.

Wow, we've been in this fight long enough for Naruda's minute long invocation ability to wear off.
Naruda moves back towards the rubble pile and fires yet another blast of cold at the asura.
"Just give up! Leave this place and we will let you pass safely."
Ray of frost: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Cold damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2

GM Pathmaker |

The Asura takes a few more blows from your spells and sees that it surely can't drive off five intruders, eventually it would run out of arrows and meet the same fate as its cousin. It gives you some parting words in Infernal then disappears behind the mound.
Long moments pass, it seemed to have fled.

Thanks for the mission reminder. :-)
Eazy straightens up, ignoring what was surely an apology from the little beast.
I believe we were just about to find the secret of this temple before we were so rudely interrupted.
He moves to inspect the room at the center, mostly hidden by walls and rubble.
He waits for the party to either join him or suggest another course.

Ito brushes some dirt off his shoulders and readies to follow Eazy.

GM Pathmaker |

You make your way back to the enclosed shrine. A large statue of a monkey-faced man sits on a pedestal at the north end of this small shrine. The statue’s arms and legs are missing, and deep scratches have been gouged into its face. The asuras took great delight in desecrating the shrine at the heart of this temple. Pieces of broken stone, rotting plant matter, and other assorted rubbish lie in heaps on the floor of this room. The smell of rot is particularly strong here.

Eazy examines the trash heaps for any clues.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
His hesitancy to actually touch anything hinders his efforts.

Ito looks about.

Naruda also takes a look around with the aid of her familiar (who also happens to have scent).
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Snowflake's Perception Aid: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Maybe there is a curse. I feel like I've gotten a lot of low rolls in this scenario.
Since she almost certainly did not find anything in her search, she also gives the area a good scan for magic auras with detect magic.
"I feel like this statue here is important. It seems like the little demons particularly hated it, which makes me think it must be something good."
"If we can't find anything interesting to bring back, I think we should make sketches of as much as we can before we have to go."
Naruda begins cataloging the site, sketching statues and taking rubbings of interesting looking stonework.

![]() |

Teke takes a closer look at what snowflake is up to.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
"Aha! there's some sort of extremely well-hidden drawer there. It's practically invisible! Let's see what's inside..."
Teke opens the door, unless his perception spotted something trap-looking.

GM Pathmaker |

An oozy liquid leaps out and melts off Teke's arm! damage, no save: 9d10 ⇒ (1, 8, 7, 8, 6, 5, 3, 10, 4) = 52
Inside the drawer, you find a richly illuminated scroll of the Vigrahin Patitraka (a Vudran holy text) and a handwritten journal belonging to a priest who accompanied Khiben-Sald on his travels around the Inner Sea. A coiled strap of leather turns out to be a magical Monkey Belt. But sadly, no ooze in the drawer. These priceless items appear to be what the Society was hoping to find.

![]() |

Well done, team. Let us return with our success forthwith.

GM Pathmaker |

The rest of the hunting expedition passes without incident, and you make their way back to Absalom without any difficulty.
Though Ambrus Valsin is excited to inspect the items you found in the lost temple, he is especially thrilled you recovered the journal recounting Khiben-Sald’s travels. He immediately refers the log to the Society’s Vudran historians for analysis, hoping to glean information about other lost sites the Maharaja may have built or visited during his travels.
There is a knock upon the lodge door. A courier enters with several large boxes, and a note of gratitude from Rudyahm and Matsanda. Unpacking them, you find the stuffed trophies of the animals you took down in the Segang Jungle to take home.
~FIN~

Ito excitedly opens the crate to reveal a Sloth Bear. scratching his clean shaven chin he ponders what to do with it. After some time he hits upon donating it to the Blakros Museum.
