A Restoration for just Con drain at this point, which is much cheaper. I'll throw up a real post with a Diplomacy check when I get home.

Was about to point that out. Extra material components of 100 gp is better than extra material components of 1000 gp. :-)

Would Endar be able to find a few oils of magic weapon? That might be the easiest way to deal with ghosties in the future, since there are no magic polearms in town at the moment.

Sure, those will be readily available.
GM thunderspirit
I can chip in gold for the restorations. What's the item cost limit to buy stuff in town?
Missed this before site went kablooie.
Belhaim
Base Value 1,000 gp; Purchase Limit 5,000 gp
Endar the Entertainer
Okay so if I remember correctly, that means that we can buy anything that's 1000gp or less with little problem (75% chance of finding it)?
finding a couple oils of magic weapon, high is good: 1d100 ⇒ 73 Cool.
Is there a (obviously lower) percentage chance for more expensive items? Endar would like to go to a shop that has magic gems and search through the "bargain bin" for a Cracked Opalescent White Pyramid Ioun Stone (1500 gp, harpoon is treated as martial weapon). It's pretty specific, so I'd understand if you made it relatively low-likelihood to find, but at least having some chance would make me happy. :)
Oh and I'm totally happy contributing to the restoration spell. How much total is it?

Emerging from the crypt into the weak sunlight, Kinn stands resplendent in a full suit of sun-wrought armor and a glittering new blade across his back. Though his flesh is paler than he has ever known it, his heart is lighter than when he entered Tula's domain, for he and his companions are better armed to face the dangers ahead. Indeed, on the journey back to Belhaim, he offers Maffei's favored blade Shadowbrand (+1 scimitar) to Endar so that the skittering fighter might have steel that can harm a ghost in future.
The wanderer leads the company back into the wary, weary town with a grim cheer affixed to his face. His first order of business is to report the success of the excursion to Lady Origena. The second is to seek out the House of Abadar for healing. "Eupaphenia Targas! Good day. I am relieved to return to find Belhaim intact." Kinn offers a respectful pause. "My companions and I soon depart again for the Monastery to face our mysterious ransomer, and I find that my health is not what it was since facing a shade in the depths of Lady Tula's tomb. My cuts bleed like running water, and I have a morning cough for the first time in years. Can you, or your staff, cleanse this ailment?"
He pulls a leather pouch from his belt, which clinks softly with the familiar sounds of the purse. "I have coin for your services, and any materials needed."
Diplomacy (request): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
380 gp is the cost of a regular restoration. I can cover this one my own. I am also offering my +1 scimitar and/or +1 breastplate to Endar if he needs a magic weapon or better armor. I am not prepared to sell the blade, though I could be willing to sell the plate. Purchase priority should go to the +2 frost shortsword or ring of minor acid resistance in my opinion. Or consumables.
Valgrim
Valgrim does not have the petty coin to pay for the Restoration outright. He would need to sell one of the magic arrows to cover the cost.
GM thunderspirit
Lady Origena is aghast at Kinn's condition, though heartened by the party's success, and sends him directly to the House of Abadar. Eupaphenia Targas recognizes the fell effects of a wraith's touch at once, but does not possess the magic herself to offset it. However, she says after a dismayed moment, the temple library may have something that can aid us.
Targas whisks the group to an elaborate door, which she opens with an oversized key. Inside the expansive room beyond, lit with multiple continual flame torches in sconces, the priestess leaves the party near the door as she moves into the shelves, filled with hundreds upon hundreds of scrolls in tidy, orderly rows, with each shelf clearly labeled and alphabetized. In short order she has what she came for, and leads the party back to the main temple room, locking the door tightly behind her before bustling back.
If we're not restoring life essence, it's considerably less costly, she says, making sure the Paladin sees the pricing notation along the top of the scroll (800 gp, with a "700 gp" notation neatly crossed out above it) as she strategically moves over by the donation box. Now I've not done this before, so I'm not sure exactly how to... her voice trails off, as she begins to read the top part of the scroll, clearly labeled "Instructions"
GM thunderspirit
Targas executes the directions on the scroll perfectly, and the ashen color drains from Kinn's visage. He feels like himself again!
Everyone leveled?
Valgrim
Valgrim has a nice new bow and is ready to use it.
Kinn
|
"The Dawn burns within me once more," Kinn says with relief. "My thanks to the House of Abadar."
"Let us be to our task."
Kinn would like to stop at the market and spend his remaining coin of a potion of fly if one can be found. He will also purchase two scrolls of protection from evil.
GM thunderspirit
Targas is happy to sell a pair of scrolls of protection from evil to the party.
1-75 is good: 1d100 ⇒ 58
Kinn locates a potion of fly at Xemne's Tonics, run by a woman of some thirty-odd years. Xemne of Demgazi, the proprietor, is gregarious and friendly, flirting with the Paladin lightly as he fishes the 300 gold crowns out.
We'll say you guys spend the overnight in Belhaim and are ready to head out the next morning. Any other transactions? (No, Achmed, no extra gold beyond what you have and/or what you sell. :-P)
Endar the Entertainer
didn't we sell some of the items no one wanted?
There were precious few of them, but we did gain a little bit of gold (2,500 in total, to be precise). We still need someone to identify two items, a magic shield and a magic ring, before we can sell them. Endar does not have the capacity.
GM thunderspirit
Achmed determines that the ring is a ring of strength sapping and the shield a +1 acid resistance light steel shield.
Probably safe to assume you sell both...?

That gave us a MUCH better gold reward, then! So we sold items worth a total of 32000gp for 16000gp, giving us each 3,200 gp if we split it evenly.
GM thunderspirit
The ring is technically over the town limit, but eh, eff it. You're heroes people would like to see succeed, after all — someone will make a swap if needed.
Kinn

I'd actually like to take the shield... acid resistance is probably going to be this whole thing, you know? I'd forgo my share of the spoils on the ring and vestment, leaving the rest of you with a gain of 1300 gp each.
Nevermind, let's actually sell the shield and pool our funds to buy that 12000gp ring of minor acid resistance for somebody who doesn't already have acid resistance (maybe Valgrim since's he's behind everybody else on the valuable items?). Kinn can heal himself and he's got a potion. Does this sound good to folks?
Valgrim
So Valgrim has an additional 3200 gp to buy with?
Kinn
|
Yes, though I am recommending that we pool our money to buy you a Ring of Minor Acid Resistance that's available. Achmed seems to be doing something else with his money.
Valgrim
I will switch out the 2nd level spell i get for 5th level and take Resist Energy instead so we dont have to spend the money on the ring.
Kinn
|
Kinn reaches into his purse to find more gold than he expected. He spends a few minutes longer in the market and purchases a ring of protection +1 and another potion of fly if they can be found.
Endar the Entertainer
Yeah I think we really need to use the money elsewhere at the moment. (Though, this is coming from the guy who was given a MAJOR ring of acid resist from loot already, LOL).
Achmed Ifit
|
Achmed sits in a fine inn waiting for the other party members to return and looks over notes on the party's travels.
I wonder what foes lurk in the monastery
Did we free the shae?
Valgrim
Valgrim comes back from scouring the settlement for items to purchase to help in their quest. He comes back to find the ifrit reading something and almost begins a conversation with the man, but ultimately decides against it.
Valgrim was behind the others in loot mostly because he kept saving his gold to do a large shopping spree. A break like this offers the chance to buy a heal stick, CI scimitar, better Leather Lamellar, and an amulet of NA+1.
GM thunderspirit
All of that should be available, Valgrim.
Did we free the shae?
Yep. That's how Kinn got Shadowbrand, her +1 scimitar.
Working on the map. Should be ready to roll with this tonight/tomorrow.
GM thunderspirit
Once returning to Belhaim to address Kinn's ability drain and restock, you set out deep into the Dragonfen along the Old Quarry Road. (See Belhaim environs link.) It winds through the bog between scrubby hillocks as it meanders lazily through the swamp, avoiding various parts as it twists along.
At one point it threads over Eskander Creek at a particularly narrow point, then drifts roughly northwesterly for a while before crossing back via a sextet of stepping stones which jut out from the flow, whereafter it abruptly turns south for a spell and then leads back east between a pair of scrubby rises, leading to a crumbling stone edifice that still rises defiantly out of the muck-filled land about it.
Eight weather-worn statues in various martial poses flank a tiled patio leading up to the monastery's gate; the weathered, iron gate is ajar.
What appears to be a guardhouse lies to the north, and three narrow arrow slits face ominously southward from its facade. A 12-foot-high fence of black iron surrounds the entire, immense property.

"The Dawnflower guides our way. Let us face Belhaim's menace, dragon or not."
He stands ready for the troubleshooters to assess the front gate for traps, then strides boldly into the complex when signaled.
Endar the Entertainer
"Well, let's hop to it, shall we? No time like the present, and all that! Perhaps we'll find some useful training manuals or something?" Endar says happily, Compy sitting on his shoulder. The two start moving into the monastery along with Kinn.
