How big was this damn Echelon?

From his bag, the bard pulls a glob of butter wrapped in oilcloth. With a word and a gesture, a slick, viscous film forms on the stones beneath the pair of approaching wraiths.

Slachagok pushes past the summoner towards their (hopefully fallen) foes.

Cast Grease on a 10-foot square including H and I, and the squares immediately to the east of both (standard). Move E, E, E, E (move) and activate Arcane Strike (swift).

With a gesture, Slachagok summons up a film of ectoplasmic goo that coats the cathedral floor and pews, causing one of the undead to slip and fall to the ground.

The undead move to silent attack against Guido, Etrigan and Slachagok, swinging their ancient, rusty sickles.

Guido takes 2 points of damage. Slachagok takes 5.

Whoops, I'll remember that next time. Also Black Echelon I didn't save vs. the spell, but he's marked as prone?

Slachagok opens his mouth to grunt as the sickle slices him, but manages nothing.

Right, their damn voice-stealing powers. The last bunch weren't too hardy, though.

He swings his axe down, striking at the fallen wraith.

Assuming that confirms...

The axe tears black fabric and crashes into the skeletal frame lying on the temple floor. Splinters of bone and shards of stone burst in all directions as Slachagok pulverizes the fragile undead.

The bard grins, and takes a step back from the powdered remains.

"Ye've dared to enter the temple of the Judge of the Gods," he roars to the wraiths, heedless of whether they can actually hear him, "ye've invaded his service and and slaughtered his clergy! Yer sentence is oblivion, and I will deliver it!"

Slachagok strikes an Inspiring Blow (immediate), gaining 2 temporary HP and granting all allies within 30 feet (Iason and Etrigan, the language suggesting that the user does not grant it to himself) a +1 morale bonus to their next attack roll next round. Hoping visual components are sufficient for that performance, Slach has 3 rounds remaining when he begins. After that, he takes a 5-foot step W, and heals 1 HP.

"Really??" Iason exclaims in vague disgust as Slachagok's axe sends bits of undead bone fragments onto him. "Etrigan, I do believe you're being shown up... well, Slachagok, it seems you have this in hand. Excuse me."

He then hurries around the altar to be next to Etrigan (Wx2, Nx3, E), and taps the outsider with the wand as well, with a small sigh.

"Devil's blood isn't exactly easy to come by, you know-- I can't use his, for contractual purposes," he mutters to nobody in particular. More loudly, he says to the huddled woman--

"Madam, if you are hurt, I advise you to make your way to me. I am rather busy right here, you see--" as he sets to rummaging inside his pack.

Etrigan, however, is no mood to wait. He cannot have a mere half-orc showing him up in the game of 'dismembering dead guys'! Bah! The demon sets to climbing.

"Bah! Save it for children, or cowards, or ladies!
"There's dead men about whom I must drag to Hades!"

Iason pauses, opens his mouth, shuts it, and pinches the bridge of his nose. "Fourth-wall cross-universe violation. You know that's forbidden by terms of your contract."

"With such concerns, I have no truck.
"More bluntly: I don't give a--"

But the outsider has reached the top of the keys, and his words are cut off by the start of the next round and another Black Echelon member (probably) getting in his face.

I was taking my assumption from the "all allies gain ... prior to the start of his next turn" clause from the Inspiring Blow description--not to look a favorable ruling horse in the mouth, of course. I'll gladly take the extra prone enemy, even if Slachagok still took the damage from I's attack. He'll probably be inferally-healed up by the next hit, either way.

Sorry about the floor, Father of the First Vault. Slachagok is confident that Abadar appreciates the exigence of the present circumstances.

Slachagok brushes a bit of Black Echelon pulverance from his shoulder. He glaring down at his other recumbent foe, he mouths the words: "You're next."

Arcane Strike (swift), etc.

Attack vs. H: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage: 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

The crash of steel against stone echoes off the temple walls, as another undead crumbles to dust beneath the Abadarian's axe. Turning to survey the wraiths scrambling across the organ, the bard makes that big speech he would have made a few moments earlier, had he not been still within the aura of magical silence.

Slachagok dashes around the central altar, toward his monk ally.

Looking at past rolls, 11/12 plus prone should get the job done. Slachagok maintains his Inspiring Blow perfomance (free, 1 round left for the day, this and further rounds only keeping up the temporary HP and not the attack bonus). He moves W, W, NW, N, NE, ending SE of Black Echelon B (move). 1 HP regained.

I did, and I believe that this case is no exception. However, the ability description says, "all allies within 30 feet gain a +1 morale bonus on their next attack roll prior to the start of his next turn." I took that to mean that the bard would enjoy the bonus, say, on an iterative attack or AoO. But if he were to wait until the midst his following turn to make another attack, it would no longer be "prior to the start of his next turn," and the bonus would have expired. It does seem a bit awkward and silly, since most bards would have to terminate Inspire Courage to even use the ability in the first place, but that's how I read the RAW. But I'd be gladly convinced that a cool-but-probably-underpowered ability is better than I had first thought.

No, I think you've got it right.

Kudos on the rhymes, Iason. You made the GM giggle. Have a jelly doughnut.

Flinkae dances across the keys as if born to play the giant organ, but sadly, he does not hit the enemy. Worse, his musical chops go largely unheard because of the undead on the pipes.

Etrigan climbs the organ to confront the undead while Iason makes his way around the altar.

Slachagok pile-drives another undead abomination and follows Iason. Meanwhile, Guido leaps up, driving the hardened edge of his instep into the jaw of a Black Echelon operative, cracking teeth and bone.

Iason scowls up at his eidolon 15 feet overhead, but there's no way he's going to try and follow him. He turns on his heel and heads towards the woman.

And he decidedly does not ask her if she has moral objections to being healed in his particular fashion before he bends down and expends another precious drop of devil's blood. The clergy can be so picky about such tiny details and vague abstractions as 'good' and 'evil', in his opinion.

He leans his axe against the nearest key, aware that he will need both hands free to make the ascent. He braces one foot between two looming blocks.

"Comin' up! Try not to crunch my fingers."

Guessing that the wounded B got dusted by Etrigan's attack. Slachagok drops his greataxe in his current square (free) and attempts to climb NW.

Skill rambling:
If I'm reading this right: with 30 ft normal speed, it takes two move actions at 7.5 feet each to climb atop the keys. DC 10 for the first move, if the floor counts as a "ledge to ... stand on," and 15 for the second, since you are "pulling yourself up when dangling by your hands." @Flinkae: I don't think so. The description calls out the temporary HP as persisting as long as the performance, and nothing else. I love the fluff, but it does seem kind of crappy. Overwrites Inspire Courage for a single-round, non-scaling bonus to attack only, and all you get after that is +CHA mod temporary HP--which probably won't scale too much either. Then again, it only replaces fascinate, is entirely optional, and the other archetype abilities seem pretty sweet. I was enamored of the Detective/Savage Skald combo because the Detective's Careful Teamwork, which replaces Inspire Courage, does pretty much all its work before combat, so Inspiring Blow doesn't step on its toes.

Forgot to add this: Slach heals 1 HP from Infernal Healing, and does not maintain Inspiring Blow (temp HP goes away, 1 round or performance remaining).

The woman doesn't seem to be a cleric. Neither is she harmed, so save your charges, Iason.

To be clear, you only need to use Acrobatics on the keys if you're trying to play the organ.

The enemies are 20' up, Guido.

Flinkae's graceful maneuvers on the keys produce a melodious sound. He's no idea if it's the right hymn, but it is at least sound. Also, he fires off a throwing star that strikes the Black Echelon operative in its bony arm, doing minimal damage.

The cowering woman, middle aged and terrified, looks up at Iason, and something she sees there seems to frighten her more. "I...I know how to play the tune," she says, barely audible over the din of the organ. She clearly has no intention of getting up any time soon, however.

Meanwhile, Slachagok drops his axe and hauls himself up onto the keys.

I thought the 5-point penalty for 1/2 speed movement was on top of the terrain DC, and that the top 7.5 feet of the keys would be DC 15 for reasons in my previous post--hard to tell when everyone else has been rolling high.

If Slach did succeed on his first roll of 11, though, he'll attempt Perform (Dance) checks to move W, E, W, E etc. to avoid any of the pipes near Black Echelon A.

1st Move W, DC 5: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Seizing the pipes with his hands, Guido lashes out with a vicious snap kick that shatters the Black Echelon operative's jaw and then a second that cracks its spine. Ancient vertebrae, green with exposure to the sea, rain down onto the keys.

Meanwhile, Etrigan mauls another operative, but does not destroy it.

Slachagok climbs heavily onto the keys, but once there, joins Flinkae in a mad dance across the enormous ivories, creating a raucous and mostly audible tune.

Slachagok maneuvers behind the Black Echelon operative and hurls him from the pipes. Bony arms waving, the creature slams into the ivories right in front of Etrigan, exploding into a pile of old, yellowed bones.

I don't think it's reasonable to bull rush while climbing from organ-pipe to organ-pipe. Then again, there's nothign reasonable about this whole silly situation!

Slachagok approaches the last operative, but his morningstar only serves to dent the large pipe of the organ. That one's going to be hard to explain to the Abadarians...

This time Flinkae carries the tune...somewhat... while Etrigan gets his foot caught between two keys. He is able to dislodge himself only after repeatedly jumping up and down on one key. At least it's noise!
