"We are doing a bit of exploring in these sewers," Edgar says, motioning to the others, each member laden with adventuring gear. He speaks the words with such conviction as if the answer should be obvious, and as if he and his companions had every right to be there. "We are naught but lowly adventurers tasked with verifying these sewers are safe and assessing any threats we may find."

"Who are you, my lab coat wearing friend?" Edgar asks, looking to the the man, the scanning any other strangers in the tunnel. "And what are you doing down here?"

Just then the youth's eye catches sight of the rat statue nearby. "And what is that magnificent statue there?" his excitement and love for this type of creature is beyond obvious in his words, his voice rising in exclamation.

With a quick flick of his hand to signal Regina to stay close, Amin moves East a few steps along the walkway, warily glancing down at the river of sewage. Gozreh preserve my nose, he thinks. City life clearly doesn't sit well with Amin. Regina emits a low growl and sniffs the air tentatively, before pinning her ears back and looking disgusted with the panoply of odors.

I'd like to survey the sickly looking "patients" and also see if I recognize the rat statue. I'm going to roll Dungeoneering, I'm assuming that applies to this situation

The young man looks to his side and sees Amin stalking along the opposite wall of the sewer with Regina in tow. A quizzical look passes over his face as the youth sees the odd duo, and cannot help but wonder.

How the hell did Amin get Regina down here? he questions to himself with a bit of a laugh passing under his breath. Did he sling her over his shoulder and climb down, or bind her up in a rope and drop her down? Either way, she cannot be happy...

For reasons you won't know until you find out what is under the spoiler, you cannot use dungeoneering. Know: Religion only.

Amin moves closer to take a look at the decrepid man. The stench of human filth that cakes the man's sides and legs would be vomit inducing, if not for the fact that they were in a sewer filled with a city's refuse. The man turns his head enough to look Amin up and down curiously, but returns to his position shortly after. His eyes are fixed on the man in the lab coat, as if he is waiting, expectantly.

"Get away from him. Adventurer's don't explore sewers, not in this town. Thats for a place like Absalom where you can still find tombs of long dead Osirion families. This is my space down here, and you don't belong. Leave. Us. Alone." he says defiantly.

The man grabs a vial from one of his lab coat pockets and pops the stopper. Instantly, the two people lying in their own filth begin to clamor and reach, though they do not leave their position on their pallet beds. He nervously scratches at another scab on his forearm as he waits the tense moments out, expecting the intruders to leave.

Who wants to climb through a sewer? Well, aside from myself of course...

Edit:

The man pointedly ignores Rattus' question. Also, as Amin gets closer to the man along the ledge, he sees an alcove open up to his right, the south side of the tunnel. Inside are two more people, another man and woman laying down on similar cot/pallets.

"Your space?" asks Bugdip incredulously, drawing his rapier in response to the filth people while stepping a little closer, "But you definitely don't look like a city official. What is your name? We're actually looking for some whip, if you know where we can find it."

Updated my token and made Nugats and I bigger. We're small but we still take up a 5ft square, so it makes no difference to have our tokens small - except to make us harder to see and move. Hope that's okay.

Lazlo casually takes a step back, and tips the vial back to his mouth, then wipes his lips with his sleeve, as if casually taking a drink from a mug of coffee. Or Ale. Definitely coffee, not ale.

Like coffee, not actually coffee.

Lazlo burps and covers his mouth, which opens one of the scabs on his cheeks. He scratches at it in annoyance.

"No, its not a very nice name, and I don't like it. But test subjects aren't always easy to find, so sometimes you make sacrifices, you know?" his grin is positively sinister.

"I will be honest you, Mr. Lazlo," Edgar says, moving to the opposite side of the tunnel. As he moves, he adjusts his clothing to be sure it would not be in the way should he feel the need to draw his rapier. "We are not going anywhere." From beneath the wide brim of his hat he looks coldly at Lazlo, a strong urge foretelling inevitable conclusion of where this conversation is going.

The need apparently presented itself after observing the figure drink the strange vial, and the youth draws the long slender weapon with slow, deliberate intent.

"I have a feeling this conversation is going to get a lot... trickier..." Edgar says, laughing awkwardly under his breath. "Where do you feel this conversation is headed, Mr. Lazlo?" His words are a veiled challenge to the man to stop all this talk and fight, as that appears to be the man's intent all along.

If our words should be punctuated with blood, the youth thinks, waiting for the strange man and his subjects to spring against his friends. Then let's have have at it...

"If we're about to have a fight," the youth calls aloud to his friends. "It might be best to not allow Mr. Lazlo here to continue to prepare himself by drinking enhancements." With a quick halfhearted swipe, the point of Edgar's rapier traces an invisible arc directed straight to the now empty vial in Lazlo's hand.

"The next concoction you drink, Mr. Lazlo... I will deem as an indication of your intentions to harm us. Stop now, or let's have at it and be done with these talks."

Even behind the mask, the smell of sewage feels quite overbearing. Worse is when the fumes get in, and starts condesating into mist of water and filth against the cool surface of the steel mask. Eventually, the mist turns to droplets that roll down Tybain's damaged face. The man coughs, and leaves himself a few paces behind the rest of the group, under the pretence of readjusting his shield. Behind the shield's cover, he quickly loosens the mask and wipes his face before continuing. By the time he catches the others, they have already met the man in the lab coat.

Perhaps it's just paranoia after breathing too must sewage chemicals, or perhaps it's warrior's sense, but Tybain gets a funny feeling from the way the so-called patients react to Lazlo's vial. And the way Lazlo is drinking the contents of his vial doesn't make him any more comfortable. Preparing for the worst, Tybain moves next to Edgar and lets out a threathening growl to give support for the boy's words.

Swords, not words. This is my kinda adventuring group! Plus, this "Lazlo" makes my blood boil anyways.

As Glarifyur moves to engage Lazlo's coterie, he readies his shield and waraxe and assumes the defensive position his father had drilled him on countless times. He twists his left, forward foot in the muck of the sewer floor and feels a certain confidence wash over him as he makes connection to the earth below.

"You can still walk away, we just want the Leper" Glarifyur states to the weak, sickly addicts in front of him and Regina as he reaffirms his grip on his waraxe.

Glarifyur, you can take an action, or just have your post be your first round, its up to you. Amin - Regina will always go on your initiative unless you request otherwise.

”We’re about to fight? We’re about to fight!?” the white coat clad man starts getting irate. ”You come down, into my space, interrupt my work, and get mad and want to fight be because you didn’t like that I asked you what the F#&$ you were doing down here? Well you’re going to get a fight then!” He exclaims, trying to talk bold past the aggressive display of the swashbuckler. It’s clear that Rattus’ bold words has him demoralized, particularly with the frightening wheezing of the man behind the mask.

Nugats puts his bold words into action, hurling insults and himself at the man, scoring a gash across his brow, causing lots of blood but not any significant damage.

”You’ll pay for… yeeeooow!” He screeches as Bugdip’s bolt smacks him in the chest.

Glarifyur barks at the decrepit man at his feet, but the man pays him no mind. These are non-combatants, too feeble and wasted to do anything, much less present a threat.

”These are my patients! Get outta here before I call for the authorities!” he yells, but there is no resolve in his voice.

Behind Lazlo, a cat-sized beetle with smoldering eyes scuttles out of a pipe, disturbed by all the commotion and coming out to defend his territory. The beetle looks to the major source of the noise and runs up to where one of the sickly ‘patients’ is laying, and emits a blinding flash of light.

Glarifyur mulls over the decision to move to the other side of the sewer tunnel, and decides it is worth it. He steps down, unsure of its depth, and is surprised when he sinks nearly to his waist, about 2 feet deep into the bowel expulsions of the diobel citizens. He pushes the thought out of his mind and steps up on the other side, setting himself defensively before swinging at the oversized beetle.

His axe comes down with dwarven force, and cleaves a hefty chunk off of the left side of the beetle, causing it to squeal in pain momentarily before its green ichor flows out, coating the pallet and the decrepit patient in its goo.

After twitching for a few seconds, the beetle remains forever still.

Bugdip steps in, but two feet deep on a Grippli is far different than even a dwarf. Thankfully, the amphibious humanoid is so focused on the vile alchemist in front of him, that he hardly notices the filth and stench.

"Noooo!" Lazlo yells as his beetle is nearly cut in half. "Curse you all to the seventh ring of hell!"

He takes a step back from the vicious gnome and the newly arrived masked man, and grabs something else from his belt. Before anyone realizes what he is doing, the scabby man flings a flaming vial at Nugats. "Get back! Get out of here!"

Edgar rushes forward along the edge of the sewer, careful not to lose his foot and touch any extremity into the terrifyingly disgusting substance sludging its way through the trough. Moving quickly along, his shoulders nearly pressed against the stone walls in an attempt to remain as far from the sewer liquid, the youth notices he will not be able to reach Lazlo in time to attack. Taking another tact, the youth intentionally passes close to his friends and right in front of the foe, seemingly leaving himself open to attacks from Lazlo.

Double Move Action: move 60-feet, in the most north-east corner square of the sewer. This movement intentionally moves through Lazlo's threatened area.

Declaring that if Lazlo uses his AoO to attack Edgar, Edgar will use his Opportune Parry and Riposte (Ex) ability. In this case, Edgar makes an attack roll and if the result is higher than the creature's attack roll, the attack is parried. This will use 1 Pinache and 1 use of AoO. If Edgar is successful, he can make an immediate action to attack the creature, assuming it's in melee range.

Apologies again for not getting to this yesterday. It was a holiday, and that is the excuse I will use. Very busy with family all day. Thanks for your patience.

@ Edgar - Sorry I didn't answer your question sooner. I can't find anything about the map that says you can't pass right over the pipe, So I am going to allow it. Probably doesn't matter now. :)

Bugdip asserts himself vocally, but Lazlo's alchemically enhanced quickness allows him to dodge out of the way of Bugdip's deadly rapier juuuuust barely.

Lazlo Will Save vs color spray: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

The wicked alchemist shakes off the bright colors that wash over him and sneers at the clawed gnome. His arrogance comes back to bite him, or blind him more specifically as Tybain sticks one of his gloved fingers into the man's squishy eyeball.

"Yeeeaaaaggghh!" he exclaims in shock.

Lazlo is blinded for 1 round unless he spends a move action to correct the condition.

Even in his blinded state, Amin and Regina crashing into the melee are unable to land a blow.

Without a dex bonus due to being blinded, Lazlo can't take an AoO..

Edgar flies in behind Amin and Regina, sprinting hard to get into position.

Noticed on my phone this morning that Glarifyur sent me a text because he had a question about the game. He is the last one who needs to post, so I will try to get ahold of him today.

Glarifyur closes in under a cacophonous racket, attempting to draw Lazlo's attention, but only generates a sneer in response, which looks semi-ridiculous with the way Lazlo is squinting from getting poked in the eye.

"I'll make you all pay! I'll make you all burn!" Lazlo shouts as he rubs his eyes vigorously, blinking away the irritation caused by Tybain.

Torag, weigh my axe with the righteous power of Living Stone!

"It's enough when I say it's *glaaaarrrr*" Lazlo's protests erupt into a bloody spray as Glarifyur's axe connects with his sternum, knocking him backwards into a sprawl on the floor, tucked behind his precious statue.

"Curse... you... meddling... pathfinders. I would *hurgh*, " Lazlo wheezes, hacking up blood from his sliced up lungs, "have gotten away with it... my... precious... lab..."

Lazlo coughs twice more, and his eyes go wide as the blood pools in his lungs, causing him to drown in his own lifeblood simultaneously as he bleeds out. In mere moments, the alchemist known as Lazlo the Leper is no more.

EDIT: Tybain and Bugdip both step in to ensure that the evil alchemist can no longer spread his wicked concoctions to the helpless and destitute of Golarion.

Quick note - Diobel is a large enough city that you shouldn't have any issue getting what you need. It is evening time on Oathday, and the letter you got from Delroya said she would meet you the next morning if you have completed at least 2 of the tasks as she requested. You have all evening to do whatever shopping you might want to do. If you remember, you don't need to get a room, you can stay on the ship overnight. The barge that brought you to the docks is still waiting for you.

Additionally, based on those perception checks, I have a few things to wrap up for you down here, which I will do as soon as I can break away for a few moments.

Quick reminder from when you first came down in here…

Countless empty flasks and discarded alchemical ingredients lie on the floor around the statue. On a nearby workbench sit several organized but empty flasks and jars.

Nugats and Edgar comb over the dead alchemist’s body, eventually finding a small, leather-bound journal in one of his many pockets. Flipping the journal open they find several detailed notes, including an extremely organized experiment and tentative results and observations of the effect of whip on the 4 destitute addicts nearby. The records go back several months to when Lazlo first began his experiments on them and details the alterations to the drug he has made and its increased effects.

Ifran is awash with sympathy and heartbreak for the poor souls chained in the sewer by their addiction. It doesn’t take much for him to see that they are all malnourished. The victims all remain docile, barely able to speak or move through impossibly dried and cracked lips. The only exception to this is when Ifran bends over to inspect each of them, without fail they all summon an inner fire as they reach desperately for the flasks and vials that hang on his belt. In their severely weakened state, they are easy to fend off, however.

Regina and Amin sniff around the area, looking for secret places and hidden things. Amin is unable to find any secret doors, and surmises that having a laboratory in a sewer is apparently secret enough. Regina lets out a growl and sits down next to one of the addicts in the alcove, indicating she has found something. When Amin comes over to inspect, he finds a vial full of a strange liquid, wrapped in cloth and tucked under one of the sleeping pallets.

Craft, Alchemy (Nugats): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

Though the liquid is strange, it doesn’t take Nugats, the group’s fantastic alchemical expert, very long to determine that this vial is unrefined whip, and an incredibly damning piece of evidence to go along with Lazlo’s highly detailed notes on the drug.

Whip:

Type inhaled, ingested, or injury; Addiction major, Fortitude DC 20
Price 50 gp
Effects 1 hour; variable effect; causes as equal chance to suffer a –4 penalty on Bluff checks or a –4 penalty on Will saving throws; 25% chance to forget everything that takes place during the next hour
Damage 1d3 Int, Wis, or Cha damage

In addition to the evidence gathered, the pathfinders find that Lazlo’s many pockets are full of interesting things.

Spellcraft 1, Nugats: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Spellcraft 2, Nugats: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Lazlo has:

  • potion of cure moderate wounds
  • flask of acid x2
  • masterwork studded leather armor
  • dagger x2
  • magical cloak of some kind
  • alchemy crafting kit
  • formula book
  • portable alchemist’s lab
  • vials of whip x2 (refined)
  • 10gp

Please note in your next post if and what you take from the loot noted above. For the newbies, please also note that you can use these items freely during the scenario, but once the scenario is over, if you want to keep anything listed above, you must purchase it with your chronicle gold. Also of note is that if someone takes the magical cloak, and you still want it after the scenario, you may still purchase it. Please let me know if you have any questions about that.

So to put a bow on this part of the scenario - list out what items you take, and also mention what items you actually purchase before heading back to the Sixwing Drake for some shuteye.
