I'm Jo |
LOL, you want Jo first? So much for stealth, tact and trap finding.
Jo smiles at the chance to lead the party... " 'Bout time they trust Jo" he thinks to himself.
Jo plods ahead following the wall as Moondark suggests Rosebud at the ready.
Xianae |
I follow Jo, axe ready hoping for some action. I also look around a little bit, "Where's this vine? I can't see it." I glance back to Roman, "Where's the vine?"
Coran Ven den Heuvel |
The marching order is fine
Coran gets into place behind Moondark hoping that Whitechin isn't more then the group can handle his healing though still there isn't the strongest, but it will heal everyone. I think Jo might be to tough to be made a meal of.
GM/Lictor Lane |
Jo inches around the conservatory, as carefully as Jo ever moves. The plants have grown thick with neglect and the room is difficult to push through. Difficult Terrain
At last, Jo nears the set of doors on the north side of the room when Coran spots motion toward the group as the vines lash out.
No surprise round.
Assassin Vines 1d20 ⇒ 18
Jo 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Xianae 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Byron 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Moondark 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Coran 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Emmett 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Roman 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Round 1: Coran, Vines, Jo, Moondark, Emmett, Byron, Roman, Xianae
Coran is up.
Xianae |
I will move up to the vines and swing at them with my axe, trying to chop some of the vines off.
Battle-Axe Attack (Power Attack) : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Battle-Axe Damage (Power Attack) : 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
GM/Lictor Lane |
Coran, you can't get to it without moving (and good news that it can't get to you yet either). Remember that with difficult terrain, each square counts as two squares of movement and diagonal counts as three. No run or charge and no five-foot steps. I'm going to switch that to a crossbow shot.
Coran fires his crossbow at the vine, but as he pulls the trigger, his foot gets caught in a ropy vine at his feet and the shot goes awry, ricocheting off the ceiling and bouncing harmlessly to the floor.
The vines in the center of the room come alive before your eyes, twisting and stretching in your direction. But, more horribly, the plants around you seem to come to life, catching at your arms and legs to hold you in place. DC 13 Reflex save to avoid the entangled condition (half speed, -2 to attack, -4 to Dex, concentration check DC 15+ Spell level to cast) for everyone (including Roman). Those that make their save can move, but must save again at the end of your turn.
A particularly large vine stretches out toward Jo. A huge section of it comes crashing down, but harmlessly bounces off Jo's scale and chain armor. A few leaves are torn off in the attempt and wedge harmlessly into gaps in the armor.
Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
It is hard to tell, but beyond the writhing vines of the plant, you think you see a second one moving slowly toward the door.
Round 1: Coran, Vines, Jo, Moondark, Emmett, Byron, Roman, Xianae
I'm Jo |
Jo's reflex save: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Jo nimbly avoids the entangling plants and steps toward to closest vine to smash it with Rosebud.
Swing at plant:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 6) + 7 = 15
*SQUASH!!*
GM/Lictor Lane |
As Jo steps up, the plant lashes out it him with another vine. This time it connects and the vine smashes into Jo, crumpling his armor and crushing his ribs sending splinters of bone through his chest. The vine whips around his chest crushing more of his abused ribs and nearly causing him to fall unconscious.
Attack (Slam, AoO) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage (Slam) 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Grab 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Damage (Constrict) 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
But in spite of his condition, Jo still manages to raise Rosebud and delivers a smashing blow back to the vine. The entire plant shudders, but it retains it's grip.
Emmett Escheus |
Emmett points a crooked finger at the plant nearest him: "The horned one got you in his sight!"
Misfortune hex. Ready to cackle to maintain it.
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Roman Fomin |
Roman lets two arrows go into the second vine, before it is able to do any harm.
Rapid shot
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
I don't think plants are immune to crits in PF? God bless Paizo :D
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Crit damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 6) + 4 = 11
"This garden needed good trimming."
Emmett Escheus |
GM - I only had to move five foot to get into range of the first vine - is that not considered a five-foot step and thus avoidance of a AOO?
I think he mentioned that everything was difficult terrain because of all the plants, so no 5-footing around.
Do I need a concentration check for an Hex?GM/Lictor Lane |
No arcane energies arch across the room, but as Emmett makes the sign with his fingers and shouts, you feel something dark and old ripple over your soul.
Will save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Byron struggles against the now-living vegetation, barely moving across the room. In spite of or perhaps because of his dreadful pun.
GM/Lictor Lane |
Reflex save (Roman) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Roman draws and looses two arrows. The first arcs across the room, but hits an intervening tree with a hard "THUNK" but the second arrow is true and strikes deep in the center of the second plant. It convulses like the first, but it's vines continue waving and stretching toward you.
Xianae steps up to the first, right next to where it has Jo caught in it's deadly vines. She evades small trees and even flowers trying to catch at her limbs. She brings her axe down on the vines crushing Jo and strikes it in twain. The plant gives a final shudder, drops Jo to the ground prone and ceases movement. Behind it, the second plant seems to writhe with increased fury.
Entangle is still in effect, so continue those Reflex saves.
Round 2: Coran, Vine, Jo, Moondark, Emmett, Byron, Roman, Xianae
Xianae |
Reflex Save : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
I move towards the final vine, Axe still dripping with the blood of the Assassin vine (Or whatever they have instead of blood) Once I get into range I swing my axe with Orcish fury! I have moved to F, 3
Battle-Axe Attack (Power Attack) : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Battle-Axe Damage (Power Attack) : 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Emmett Escheus |
Perplexed, Emmett tries to figure out what just happened.
It should have worked...
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Sorry, I forgot to put the hex DC: Will, DC 15.
GM/Lictor Lane |
We'll retcon Coran once he is back...though we could use the cleric right now...Xianae, you'll need to redo your move since the plant has now moved into the spot you intended, but you can wait to see what happens if you'd prefer.
The vines of the second plant lash out, attempting to slam against Jo while he lays on the ground. The vine and tendrils connect leaving Jo's chest a torn and battered mess. Seemingly satisfied, the man is dead, the twisting mass of vines slithers forward, whether to feed or attack again is unclear.
Attack (Slam) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage (Slam) 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Jo, you're not really dead, but will need a stabilize check for you d20+Con Modifier-Negative HP (I think 12), beat a 10 or lose another hp.
Round 2: Coran, Vine, Jo, Moondark, Emmett, Byron, Roman, Xianae
Byron Radanavich |
Round 2:
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7.
Byron muffles a curse as he continues to have trouble fighting his way through the vegetation, but eventually manages to bring himself to a position where he can take a swing at the vine...
Moving to E4.
Silversheen ECB: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19, for 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 Slashing damage.
Emmett Escheus |
Emmett stares at the second plant and plants a fist into his open palm: "Sap is good and all, but spilled it gets on these walls!"
Misfortune, Will DC 15
Coran Ven den Heuvel |
Sorry just got in from work
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Coran watches Jo fall and Yells "NOT ANOTHER ONE" as Coran screams a wave positive energy courses through his allies into only his allies, feeling them with a sense of Freedom and giving them the warm feeling they get after taking a drink.
Channel Positive Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6
GM/Lictor Lane |
Waves of healing burst forth from Coran, just before the creature strikes Jo, knocking him unconscious. Moondark's bolt strikes home, nearly slaying the terrible vine. But as Byron steps in to deal one last blow, the vine lashes out in desperation. For a moment, it looks like the plant might take another victim, but Byron's cloak slips as the vine grabs at him and its blow slides harmlessly away, just as he closes with the killing strike.
Attack (AoO, Slam) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Attack (AoO, Slam, 2nd roll for Misfortune) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Combat over. Nice work.
Xianae |
Seeing the creature drop before I get another swing at it, I frown in disappointment. But my frown turns into a smile quickly, until I notice that Jo is still on the floor. I then turn to Coran, "That warm feeling's, that was ya? Ya a Shaman then's?" I lower my head and bend my knee slightly as if giving a huge amount of respect to Coran, but still showing the fear of being attacked if I go any lower than I am. I then stand up again, "Can ya help's Jo?"
Emmett Escheus |
Emmett has a silent smirk on his face. He knows he made a difference. He moves forth with concern as he realizes Jo is still on the floor.
Coran Ven den Heuvel |
Coran heads up to Jo to see how bad off he is, calling on the power of his Gods he touches Jo's forehead. Live to fight another day, my friend.
Cure Light Wounds. 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
"Yes it was me, you could say that." looking up at Xianae He will be fine Coran sighs in relief
I'm Jo |
GM - Not sure what my damage is at this point. Did the last attack happen or not? Was the plant dead before the last hit on Jo?
Jo revives at Coran's touch. Luckily he is too punch drunk to realize she is healing him.
"Ohhhh...." Jo grabs his sore chest "What kinda plant was dat? Jo startin to not like plants no more."
GM/Lictor Lane |
Jo, here's what I have you taking: 22 points of damage (1st plant, Round 1) from slam and constrict on the attack of opportunity, 6 points of damage healed by Coran (Round 2) 14 points of damage (2nd plant, Round 2) from slam, 10 points of damage healed by Coran (post-combat).
Current Total = 24-22+6-14+10=+4
BTW, room is still considered difficult terrain, but the entangle effect ended with the death of the vines.
Byron Radanavich |
"I am glad to see that you are still in the land of the living, Jo!"
While Jo is being healed, Byron conducts a perfunctory search of the room...
Maybe the vines have had other 'meals' over the years, or maybe the original inhabitants left something behind...
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20.
Xianae |
"Hee, hee. Ya used a Rosebud's to kill's a plant! Hee, hee! Got some fight's left in ya Jo?" I then assist Byron in his searching of the room. I look to Byron, "I hope's there a new Axe!"
Perception Assist (DC 10) : 1d20 ⇒ 10
I then glance back to Coran, "I won't let's the Shaman get hurt, I'll use everything's I got to keep ya from harm!"
