Good evening everyone!
This summer I would like to GM a second play-by-post here and I'm looking for individuals who would be interested in playing in:
GameMastery Module J1: Entombed with the Pharaohs (OGL)
and
Pathfinder Module J4: The Pact Stone Pyramid (OGL)
I have ran both before, but I would like to mix things up and raise the level on each of them. They would be played using the Pathfinder RPG rules and the starting level would be 15. All hardcover Pathfinder material is allowable, but other material may be used on a case-by-case basis.
__________________
So here's my thoughts. I would like to raise the level on these because the story is great, but the heightened level could bring a lot more excitement. And besides, why wouldn't the Pharaohs of Ascension be upper level NPCs? Really? A level 7 conjurer ruled an empire? C'mon!
I plan on overhauling the NPCs, reworking the traps, and in general just beefing up the modules. It may be a bit sketchy at times, but it should work out just grand!
___________________
If you're interested in playing please post below with the following by Friday, May 27:
*Your character concept, including, but not limited to: Back story, class, religion, associates, etc.
*A sample build @ level 15, using: "organic" 4d6 - lowest roll, average wealth, choose one trait (I will create another for you based on your background), and anything else you deem important.
*Your timezone
*Any past experiences you have had in a PbP.
The FOUR players will be selected primarily based on their creativity and character back story (Really USE that Campaign setting!), I'm not a math-wiz, and for me gaming is all about the story!
DO NOT APPLY IF:
*You are a rules lawyer.
*You can't handle the bending of the rules for the enhancement of the story (I tend to let my players run a little wild).
*You're busy all the time - I will expect one post a day on weekdays (M-Th) and one per weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday).
If I'm forgetting anything here, I'm sure someone will let me know!

I've got to run to work, but I wanted to tag this post so I could finish the write up tomorrow. I have a history based on level one. I'll need to add more to it to make up the level differences. Basically he's an adventuring Pathfinder who starts off a bit elitist, but gets grittier as he travels the world. I've done a lot of background on this character. I got bored one day and created his family home, discussed below.
My brief history as a player is that I've been playing for years, but only recently discovered PBP. I like them. Wizards are my favorite and I've been wanting to play a high level caster forever. I've got a boring day job and I check the posts several times a day on my Ipad. I'm not a rules lawyer and I greatly prefer fun over mechanics. Naturally I'll have a lot of ideas as a 15th level caster. ;-) I hope you pick me and I'm very excited.
Here is my level one backstory Let me know what you think:
I have a character idea that I'd like to run past you. I played this character in a tabletop game until about third level when there was almost a TPK. Belgraen was the only survivor thanks to expeditious retreat and levitate combo running down a mountain. If you decide you like the idea I'll Stat him up fully. In the case of PBP I've noticed that role play tends to be superior to mechanics anyway.
Bachelor #1: Belgraen (bell-Gray-N) the elven sage. He'll be a straight wizard and if it's permitted he'll prestige into the Pathfinder Savant Prestige class found in the Seekers of Secrets book. High Int (naturally) and his first feat will be Breadth of Experience. He's 103 years old.
Belgraen is an always immaculately, if simply, dressed elf. He loathes any work that requires getting his hands dirty, but will if he feels the outcome is worthwhile. Prestidigitation was the very first cantrip he learned and he uses it several times a day to make sure he stays tidy.
Belgraen grew up in a noble house and was raised in a human built keep on the borderlands of human and elven communities and it has a dock that backs up to a major water way and is often used for trade. His father is mage of minor (or major if it helps plot) note and his mother is a diplomat between the elven and human kingdoms. The keep has a small village outside that acts as a crossroads for traveling merchants. The travelers were always interesting enough for Belgraen, but mostly because they had books from far off lands.
Belgraen could never get enough books. History books, fables, religion, geography, language Belgraen loved them all. He participated in the usual elven pastimes of sword play and bowman ship when he was required to, but only when he couldn't get out of it. He much preferred to have his nose in a book than a sword in his hand. In time he found that his interests didn't really fit with the interests of his other family members. He felt as though he had to "speak down" to them so that they could understand him. He often comes across as elitist, but it's unintentional. He simply knows that he has to explain things simply of he'll talk over peoples heads. On other occasions he is just being elitist. (personality wise think of Tesla from the Sanctuary series on SyFy. Too brilliant for his own good at times)
Over centuries he grew very tired of not being mentally stimulated. He knew he had to get away and see the world. In one of his books he read about a group dedicated to discovering the secrets of the world and sharing that knowledge. He wanted to be a part of that group.
He told him mother that he wanted to discover something brilliant and make a name for his family and it would most likely be highly valuable enough to increase the family coffers considerably. She agreed and sent him to the Home City of the Pathfinder society. Once there and after many trials and tribulations he passed the Society's tests to become a seeker of secrets, though just barely. Due to his high intelligence and the fact that he seems to know something about absolutely everything they sent him to act as a liason in *insert campaign appropriate city*. Here he continues his magely studies and acts as consultant on matters requiring varieties of knowledge. Occasionally he's called to act as a scribe, but he loathes the work as he feels it is beneath him.
What do you think? I have a couple of other idea, but I didn't want to write more than one book per post. ;-)

I am interested in playing a synthesist summoner, the human vessel of an angel. I'll have a lot more details and a statblock tomorrow.
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 5) - 2 = 11
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 3) - 2 = 13
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 1) - 1 = 13
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 1) - 1 = 9
4d6 - 4 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 6) - 4 = 17
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 3) - 3 = 15
17, 15, 13, 13, 11, 9. All odd numbers. 26 point buy. Not bad at all.

Seif-al-Din ibn-Subhi |

4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 3) = 14 ---> 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 5) = 16 ---> 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 5) = 14 ---> 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 6) = 15 ---> 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 1) = 9 ---> 8
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 4) = 19 ---> 15
(Which is a 19 point-buy)
Re-arranged to:
Str: 15 ---> 18 (4th, 8th, and 12th level bumps)
Dex: 12
Con: 13
Int: 12
Wis: 8
Cha: 15
I would like to submit a concept for a Half-Elven Paladin 5 / Living Monolith 10, an ancient guardian of the tombs and treasures of Osirion, who works to ensure that the nation's heritage is left undisturbed, or at worst, preserved within the borders of the resurgent kingdom.
I will provide a much more fleshed-out concept tomorrow :-)

Sending from my phone at work-
One can hope. :-)
Are you familiar with the pathfinder society source book "Seekers of Secrets?" if so can I use it? If not that's cool. I was contemplating if the prestige class is even worth it. If no I'll go straight wizard. Whatever your preference. :-)
I have it, love it, and use it. And you may too! :)

Gerald |

I am considering submitting a caster/summoning based druid.
I'll try to get a back story up soon, but wanted to see what I might be working with, if chosen.
I have been gaming since the early 1980s. I favor casters, but I have to admit that I have never played a game at 15th or higher level. I think my highest previous game ended at around level 13, so I might have a bit of a learning curve for this level.
I am active on the PbP board here, as I have several games going at this time. I am in the eastern US time zone, and post regularly. When I am unable to make a post because of work or something, 99 times out of 100, I make a quick post advising the group of same.
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 4) = 14 =12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 3) = 7 =6
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 6) = 13 =12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 5) = 13 =12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 4) = 16 =13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 1) = 10 =9
Ugh. That's pretty low, lol! That's a 2 point buy from the rolls...

Sure, sometime between now and Friday. I hope it's not First-come-first-serve? I've got some code I need to finish up by midnight and a rehearsal to run before then. I'm on Pacific time, by the way, though my sleep pattern is pretty wacky with finals on the horizon (and the coding and such). But I can definitely sneak in a post a day, and once we're on the far side of June 8th I can post with reckless abandon.
You'll hear from me soon methinks.

Sounds great!! It's not first come first serve, I pick based on a grading scale. Also, totally understand the school thing. I just finished up my Freshmen year on Tuesday!

Belgraen |

I'm making my character now. I'm going back and forth about weather to take the prestige class or not. Basically I'll have to give up 8th level spells for a bunch of cool tricks. I'll get back to you on that. ;-)
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 6) = 19 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 3) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 1) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 2) = 10 8
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 5) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 6) = 17 14
Adequate stats. I'm going to play with some builds and see what I come up with. I may just go loremaster or no prestige class at all. I'll get back to you on that.
Oh and I'm in Atlanta, so I'm on Easter Time zone. Same as NYC. ;-)
So i'm playing a very powerful mage. Do you want me to arrange to have something useful for the plot? My background has me being very politically connected so Perhaps a keep, or demiplane (per the new spell), or a flying boat to be used for party travel/mid-air hijinks ;-).
If the game had developed organically from a low level I imagine we'd already have something like this from either my character or another. I'm very dedicated to helping the plot. Just let me know what I can do.
Also, I would like to take the Staff-like wand wizard discovery from the Ultimate Magic. The requirement is to be an llth level wizard. As I'm creating the character I'm technically an 8th level wizard and 7th level Pathfinder Savant, but my caster level is 14. Would it be ok if I took the below feat/discovery? The theory is that wizards learn interesting discoveries by study and it makes more sense to me that they are tied to wizard caster level than actual levels in Wizard. Thoughts?
Staff-Like Wand: Your research has unlocked a new
power in conjunction with using a wand. Similar to
using a magic staff, you use your own Intelligence score
and relevant feats to set the DC for saves against spells
you cast from a wand, and you can use your caster level
when activating the power of a wand if it’s higher than
the caster level of the wand. You must be at least an
11th-level wizard and must have the Craft Staff feat to
select this discovery.
I know I'm throwing a lot at you, but I'm very excited. Like I said I've been wanting to play a high level wizard forever. ;-)

Camris |

Lets see what I get...
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 1) = 11 ->10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 4) = 13 ->12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 2) = 16 ->14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 3) = 12 ->10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 6) = 22 ->17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2, 1) = 9 ->8
So an 18 point build.
Alright, I propose;
Khopos Tar-Menes
L15 Phalanx Fighter
Once a promising and patriotic officer in the Pharaoes army, he was cashiered when he refused a bribe from an antiquities dealer and was falsly accused of dereliction. Now reduced to taking bodyguard jobs for rich folk he despises, he seeks something else, something he can't even name.

Belgraen |

Forget everything else I said about prestige classes My head's about to explode.
I'm playing a Conjurer (teleportation school from APG) lvl15. This exercise has shown me that it really is better in pathfinder not to prestige.
Edit: I'd still like to be a member of the Seekers for RP reasons, Just not take the prestige class.

Belgraen |

Alright I've got to get to bed, but the VAST majority of Belgraen is built.
I need to notate a few things in the right fields, such as spell resistance in defense section
I need to make some "notecards" of commonly summoned creatures
I took the "true name" discovery and I need to pick the outsider and stat it up. It'll be something neutral most likely. Maybe some kind of elemental. Haven't totally decided.
I've got a breakdown of cost of items for the Wealth by level section, but it's not in my sheet. I'll share it with you if you really want. It's a word document so it'll probably be best to mail it.
And a few other things, but all in all I'm happy.
I'm open to thoughts questions and concerns.

Seif-al-Din ibn-Subhi |

Okay, I have finished putting together Seif-al-Din ibn-Subhi, A Half-Elven Paladin 5 / Living Monolith 10
(The Living Monolith prestige class is from the Osirion, Land of the Pharaohs source book, which I think is thematically appropriate, if you are willing to allow it.)
I will copy his background information here, but the rest of his 'crunch' can be accessed on his page :-)
Wherever he goes, Seif-al-Din is accompanied by his eternal companion, an Osiriani Wise-Eye black cat with piercing violet eyes, which usually rides draped around his shoulders.
Although Seif-al-Din was well cared for as a child, and provided with excellent instruction through his father's contacts in the Church of Abadar, he found his father to be emotionally distant, focusing as he did on spanning the country, and beyond, with a web of commerce that ultimately answered solely to him.
As such, Seif-al-Din became more and more caught up in the doctrine of progress and global betterment of the Master of the First Vault, eventually becoming ordained as a Holy Warrior of Abadar (with his Father's tacit, if distracted, approval). With his faith providing him a solid bedrock of contentment from which to work, Seif-al-Din was able to throw himself into the jobs that his father assigned to him, usually providing protection, and guidance, on troubled routes, or investigating rumors of bandits or missing caravans...
...However, as he traveled the satrapy, all he saw everywhere was the despoilment of Osiriani history, and the auctioning-off of his nation's heritage for a pittance to wealthy foreigners and indolent nobles. This awakened a fierce national pride within him, and so he petitioned his father, and was granted permission, to start discreetly buying-up Osiriani artifacts whenever he encountered them, so that some of the nation's history, at least, would remain in the land that created it.
Eventually, however, he realised that all he was doing was tacitly approving of the trade in his country's antiquities; there was no point pruning the branches of the problem, only to allow the root to flourish...
To that end, he formally petitioned to be released from his father's immediate service, so that he could focus on ferreting-out tomb robbers and smuggling rings, and shutting them down, permanently. Eventually, his activities drew the attention of the elite order of tomb guardians known as the Living Monoliths, and he was inducted into their ranks...
Thus, he compromises: He uses his (extremely venerable) father's web of mercantile contacts to keep abreast of the currents in the antiquities market, and does his best to buy-up whatever relics he can, whilst also ferreting-out bands of tomb-robbers wherever he finds them.
Sometimes, when he gets wind of a particularly lucrative find, he will do his best to personally lead an expedition to investigate it, on the grounds that if he is the one to 'recover' the treasures, he can at least make sure that they do not fall into foreign hands...
As to me, I am based in Australia (which is, at present, around GMT+11), but I have a fair amount of experience with PbP gaming, being involved in a number of ongoing games on these boards.

Asher Hanafesh, Avatar of Abraxiel
A slave often has little else to do other than pray for relief. Asher Hanafesh, born as just another slave in the vast sea of Osirion's army of slaves, prayed to Sarenrae in nearly every moment. Even as he grew older and the sting of the overseers' lashes grew harsher, his faith did not break. He labored daily, surviving where many others did not, praying all the while for Sarenrae's rescue. Even the other Keleshite slaves looked down on him for his elvish heritage.
On his 18th birthday, Asher's faith was rewarded. While the overseers did not grant him any relief, even for his birthday, a sudden sandstorm separated him from the other slaves. When the sandstorm stopped, as suddenly as it began, an angel stood before him. Asher immediately knew him as a servant of Sarenrae, the archangel Abraxiel. The powerful being explained to Asher that the Sunflower had heard his pleas and seen his unyielding faith, and that she was moved to assist him. The angel explained that he needed a human vessel, one who would manifest the will of the goddess without hesitation. Pious Asher answered immediately, accepting whatever task Sarenrae set before him and trusting that she would not give him more than he could handle. Abraxiel nodded and gestured downward at Asher's feet.
Half-buried in the sand before him was an amulet, glimmering with an inner fire and the holy symbol of Sarenrae. When Asher kneeled to pull it from the sand, Abraxiel placed his hand on the young man's shoulder. With a blinding light, the archangel was bound to his mortal vessel through the amulet. Asher spread Abraxiel's wings for the first time, taking to the sky in a fiery burst. Together, they delivered Sarenrae's swift justice to the cruel slavemasters and freed countless slaves who followed him as a savior.
Nearly twenty years later, as the bond between the angel and vessel grew stronger, Asher continues to battle evil and injustice with righteous fury. Armed with a massive greatsword forged in Heaven, he protects a community of freed slaves in the sands of Osirion.
As you can see, the synthesist archetype can be pretty powerful, especially with the benefit of a high Charisma and paladin saves. His "mortal" form is not particularly powerful, though he has a lot of spellcasting options. I gave him Eldritch Heritage (Arcane bloodline) to give him an arcane bond, which acts as his link to Abraxiel. Improved Eldritch Heritage should give him a 3rd and 4th level spell from the sorcerer/wizard list, which I have yet to choose. Obviously, this build takes a bit of guesswork as there are a number of unanswered questions for the developers as to the synthesist. I didn't give him any armor, but gave him Bracers of Armor +6 instead. Tell me if there's anything you want me to change about the build, if it's too cheesy.

Gotcha. I was going to have to edit my gear anyway to pay for spell components, foci, and what not.
I've got the vast majority of my character worked out and I'll have my spell selection by the end of the day posted. I probably have too much gear since I crafted most of it, but I'm totally open to editing that.
I would love to play in your game, but If I'm not selected I'm at peace with that.
Long story short I'd rather not finish this labor of love (character creation) if I won't have a chance to use him. Is the any way you can tell me if im in the running or ideally accepted in the game? At the very least do you know when you'll be making your decision?
Thanks in advance

So as a conjurer I thought it would be fun and appropriate to take the True name Discovery as my 15th level feat which means I have up to an 18HD outsider to play with. For many reasons It wouldn't be something i pulled out every fight, but instead it would be in case of emergencies and what not. Im assuming the feat is ok, and if not that's cool, i'll live. So my question is this, What should I pick to be able to summon like this??? Creature stats mostly aside, from a Role play perspective this is a difficult decision. I don't want to derail the thread, but I was wondering if anyone had a brilliant bit of input that I may have overlooked.
Basially I'm looking for a specific outsider around 18HD, but no more that I could occasionally call for help that wouldn't completely screw me from a Role Play perspective. Read the below tag for my thoughts on the matter.
Oh, keep in mind my character is neutral.
(clerical healie Utility/battling evil)A leader in the celestial armies? It definitely has merit, but I really don't want to piss off the heavenly host. They're organized and don't take kindly to being messed with. "every moment I'm helping you is another moment i'm not defending the gates of heaven... bla bla bla" It's like trying to talk to a paladin only worse. *ug* Probably not going this route. A planetar is 17HD though...hummm...
(General Battle/destruction) Devil general?
Same as above, but with fewer guilt trips. Further, they're probably more unlikely to be reasoned with and they'll constantly be trying to get me to sign my soul over in a contract. Long term repercussions are more than I want to deal with. Also, this option is like begging the DM to screw with you. Going to pass on that one too.
(General Battle/destruction) Demon general?
Same as devil, but instead of a contract they'll be trying to eat my soul along with the rest of me. Although as Chaotic creatures they're much less likely to organized enough to send they're buddies after me. Marilith demon is 16HD
(utility/battle etc) Classic Elementals? Great idea, but they're highly specialized for their element. I was leaning toward an air elemental, but then I discovered they only go up to CR11 even though the elder elementals have 16HD. That's a strange discrepancy and I'm not quite sure what to make of it.
(Battle/Destruction/utility) Some sort of Elemental Kin? For example Azata, Brijidine Page 37 in the Bestiary 2. CR17 Chaotic good Magma goddess (not really a goddess, but it's kind of just semantics at this level). She'd be kinda cool, but has the same Element specific issues as other elementals. Also I just reread the feat and it's based on HD not CR, so I couldn't have her anyway, but she's still a good example. Any other good ones out there?
They're various aligned Demons and celestials that have different names (Daemon, Aeon, Avoral, etc) They tend to have a mixture of issues above.
Then I discovered the Primal Dragons! Love This! They're basically elemental dragons that are also outsiders! Perfect! or So I thought. They're upper level HD jumps from around 14 up to 22. I really liked the Ancient Cloud Dragon before I realized it was 24 HD. Although the Adult version is 16 HD, so I'm leaning heavily that direction.
True Name (Sp): Your researches into ancient tomes and
your inquisitions of bound spirits have led you to one of
the best-hidden secrets of the multiverse: the true name
of an outsider—the name that defines the very essence
of the creature and that gives the speaker control over
the being. This outsider can have no more than 12 Hit
Dice. Once per day, you can speak the common name by
which the outsider is known, and the outsider travels to
you as if you had cast planar binding upon it. It must obey
you to the best of its ability, without pay or bargaining
for its services, for its fear that you might release its true
name to the wider world is enough to bring even the most
recalcitrant of outsiders to bear.
If the creature is within 100 feet, as a move action, you
may punish it by deliberately mispronouncing its name,
wracking its very essence and giving it the sickened and
staggered conditions for 1 round (even if the creature is
normally immune to these conditions). You cannot use true
name in an area of silence, but the creature does not have to
be able to hear you for it to be harmed by the ability.
It is in your best interest to call this creature only
sparingly, and occasionally reward it in some fashion
to mollify its wrath. If you repeatedly fail to offer it a
reward appropriate to its type and ethos, the creature
may begin plotting ways to destroy the bond between
you, whether by creating an accident that will destroy
your memory of the name, by plaguing you with
nuisances or dangers until you vow never to call on it
again, or by actively seeking to destroy you through its
own devices or those of an underling. If this creature
is of a lawful type and you are violating its ethos, its
superiors may even destroy it or you rather than allow
you to contaminate their servant further. Worse, they
may establish situations where it is necessary for you to
summon this outsider, opening gateways to infernal or
angelic interference, in order to gain a foothold on the
Material Plane.
You may select this discovery multiple times. Each
time you select this discovery, it applies to a different,
specific outsider. You must be at least an 11th-level
wizard to select this discovery. If you select this discovery
at 15th level or higher, the creature may have up to 18 Hit
Dice and the call acts as greater planar binding instead of
planar binding.
Thoughts?
Presently I'm leaning heavily toward the Adult Cloud Dragon. The described personality lends me to believe that it would be the most "cooperative' of them, plus that's very cool. Cooperative is in quotes because it's a VERY relative term given the context.

Hmmmm This hascaught my interest. Lemme roll stats and cry.
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1, 4) = 1312
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 3) = 87
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 4) = 119
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 6) = 2318
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 4) = 1613
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 1) = 1514
Hmm these stats scream soemthign simple, something that would love to roll an and would mind some rather bad stats in other areas. Let's see what's been submitted
Huh, also happen to be from atlanta that's interesting. Anyway.
So let's think up some 15th level insanity.
Leaning towards Ranger or Magus. Probably Bladebound Magus. We'll see.
So thoughts thus far revolve around the relationship between the magus and his blade. I imagine the sword will actually be smarter in some ways than its owner. In fact I have some ideas that the sword is the one doing all the real spellcasting where the magus is merely some warrior who found the unfortunate wizard who got his soul stuck in a magical blade. Fun stuff. He's not very charismatic or even very willful but jsut smart enough to understand what the blade is tellign him and how to do magic and hurt people. Hurt people very bad.
In fact let's make the wizard a djinn that was bound to the blade and has yet to figure a way to extricate himself free of it. The man wielding the blade is partly a hopeless slave and partly an idealistic hero.
Yeah definitely magus.
Hit point roll:15d8 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 6, 1, 2, 6, 5, 5, 5, 8, 8, 8, 6, 8) = 80Hrm last roll was unnecessary. Knocks it down to 72.
Will add to this as I get time. Takes a bit to get the wheels of crazy moving I've been doing so many down to earth 1st level characters.

@Belgraen I think a dragon is a good choice, better than a demon/devil, and we also have Abraxiel (hopefully) to fulfill the angelic host role. Also, his history mentions "centuries" of experience, but you have his age listed as barely 100.
@Weir If your character is now immortal thanks to his class ability, you really ought to make that a prominent part of his story. Does he still "connect" with mortals? Does he consider his past as just part of his history, or still part of his identity?
