The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

To the north you find nothing but empty chambers. To the east grotesque carvings of sex, gluttony, violence, and oppression decorate the walls of the chamber, seeming to leap from the walls themselves. The broken bodies of a half dozen humans, their flesh seared, hang among the vile imagery. Luckily Jennix notes that there are several pit traps in this room and directs everyone around them.

Beyond this there is a ledge and corridor decorated with more vile carvings. To the east, stone stairs climb to a balcony lined with pillars. Beyond this is a hallway where broken bodies, some of which seem to have died where they were tormented, line the walls amid carvings and figures of torture and anguish.

Not until it is too late does the party hear the sound of breaking bones in the hall and soon you feel a spirit moving through you. . .

You are inhabited by the spirit of Yuka, a woman who died here. She seeks vengeance and urges you to slay her killer Munasukaru. While she possesses you she grants you her still mind monk class ability and a +2 bonus on saving throws against enchantments. If/when you defeat Munasukaru, you gain Exotic/Martial Weapon Proficiency in a single Tian weapon of your choice.

The corridor ends at a stone shelf perched above a large cavern. A shaky-looking wooden ladder climbs down from the ledge to the floor of the cavern. The overwhelming roar of a waterfall to the east of the ledge echoes across the huge chamber. Below you see a few camps of hobgoblins. These are just normal 17-hp hobgoblins though so I'm going to hand-wave any violent interactions you have with them since it's not really worth rolling initiative. Deal with them as you will.

Miso resists the spirit that moves through him, though the entire dungeon beneath the pagoda has clearly disturbed him more than a little. He tries to ignore the carvings, and is only too happy to beat up on the hobgoblins to take his mind of the images they depict.

Jennix creeps along the passage, staring with barely concealed horror at....everything. In the hall, Jennix's body shudders as the sound of breaking bones resonates in hall. Shaking his head as if trying to get water out of his ear, Jennix's face betrays confusin for moment, then he seems to become calm, more calm than usual.

Moving across the room, Jennix gets down on his hunches and examines the makeshift bridges across the chasm.

As the party moves down the hall, Terflynn studies the carvings with academic curiosity. Once into the untrapped corridor, the elf even stops to take a charcoal rubbing of some of the imagery. "Hm, I've never seen this exact style before..."

As the sound of cracking bones resonates in the hallway, Terflynn notes a spirit's feeble attempt to possess him. He mentally dismisses it and carries on. He steps off the ledge and lands lightly on the floor, noting the formation of the cavern.

The cavern seems mostly natural, although spots like what seems to be a kitchen room to the east have been carved out or flattened for special purposes. Past a grand chasm you can see a structure: A stone keep sits on an outcrop of rock in the belly of the huge cavern. Several of its walls have clearly seen better days—the structure sags in places, and heaps of rubble line the keep’s flanks. From the building’s roof, which almost touches the ceiling of the cavern itself, a stone bridge arches across to a precarious rocky outcrop high above the cavern floor.

Miso moves up alongside Jennix. That appears to be our destination, he says, looking about the cavern for anything lurking or unusual.

Miso sticks the wand of lightning bolt in his teeth as he pulls out another wand (flame arrow) and taps Zachary. This would appear to be the bed in which your own river lies, my friend. The Kellid then drops the wand in his hand and retrieves the other one, taking a five-foot step forward and entering Dragon Style.

Sheesh. A few months ago you guys were nearly dying in every combat. What happened?

Jennix, Miso, and Zachary quickly put the giant and the pets to rest!

You make your way to the structure and up to the second level. The floor of this open chamber runs with filth and refuse and swims with scores of cockroaches and rats, as well as over a dozen pigs. A huge table rises crookedly from the waste, holding the putrid remains of a huge feast on a tarnished silver salver, including a half-devoured pig’s head with a hand thrust into its mouth leering out from the center of the revolting meal. Numerous war trophies hang from the walls, while countless rusted weapons dangle on hooks from the ceiling above. The stone stairs continue to stagger upward in the southwest corner.

A large hobgoblin is in this chamber eating and guarded by three other hobgoblin warriors. The swollen belly of the large hobgoblin is matched only by his fury when you ascend the stairs.

I would say it has more to do with the fact that none of us can take a hit. But as long as we kill them before they get to us, we're fine.

Another pair of arrows from Zachary is enough to drop the leader to the ground, cold dead. He then turns to the next hobgoblin guard and easily puts it on the ground too. Jennix sticks his katana in the next hobgoblin's side!

Miso hands the jingasa and the cloak to Jennix (doesn't look like he has a cloak yet) and asks to claim the belt. He also suggests that Zachary take the +1 thundering greataxe and the MW composite longbow (backup bow, cos sundering sucks, plus a nice backup melee weapon).

The Kellid hands Terflynn the potions and baubles while placing the samurai armor into a sack and slinging it across his back. I am familiar with the smaller goblins of Avistan, Miso says, but less so with these larger creatures that resemble them.

Terflynn takes the largest potion and hands off the other cure potions to his companions, keeping one for himself as well. "You're going to need these, something tells me." Terflynn nods as the others equip themselves, then looks around at the room and the doors, thinking, estimating size, and pondering an idea. "Hmmm..."

How big is this place? Is there more to this castle thing?

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

The spiral stairs stumble to the roof of the keep, which lies barely ten feet from the cavern ceiling. A narrow walkway clings to the rooftop and eventually reaches a stone bridge that gracefully arches from the roof of the keep to a small stone balcony on the far cavern wall.

The bridge ends at a narrow shelf of rock high above the cavern floor. At its rear, a corridor descends steeply into the rock.

The thundering roar of another waterfall fills this chamber. The water falls from a subterranean river some ninety feet above to the north, plunging into a cold, deep lake. On the far side of the lake stands a crooked pagoda, carved with the forms of twisted animals, as if in mockery of the pagoda in the daylight high above. A raised drawbridge hangs from the front of the pagoda.

Two greater water elementals are bound in the waters of the lake and as you approach they try to stop your crossing!

Miso's maw emits a line of acid at the two (on map), hoping to drop the one already injured.
