"I'd like to look at the tower before going through the doors. What do you all think?"
Mak'da
|
I agree but lets be quick says Mak'da as she scans the area with detect magic and has a quick look around.
Perception: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (7) + 24 = 31
Vera Darkone
|
Vera moves quickly to the tower to take a look. "I'll be as quick as I can."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Arisira
|
Arisira quickly looks over the body of the broken creature, seeking out signs of why the Marsh Giant was here in the first place.
"They have used leverage on their 'allies' before..." she mentions to no one in particular.
Seeing the others have also begun a quick explore, she steps up to the door with an arrow knocked, head up and alert for movement on the upper levels of the tower.
Valin Halcyon
|
Valin takes a post at the door after a quick look around.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
He braces his shield against the door ready to take its place between his companions and the foes inside.
GM Eddv
|
You notice that the marsh giant was actually dry - which is super unusual for them to not be slick from hanging out in the water. This suggests he had been standing there in that stupor for quite some time, confirming your theory.
Looking around the first floor, aside from the giants basic possessions, and the pit trap, not much to see here.
But listening at the door... Valin hears a couple of feminine voices coming from behind the doors.
But it appears to be some sort of spell that is reciting some sort of research note regarding the Saoc Brethren's rituals, to take command of the storm. Their target is clear - the human settlements on the sodden coast and Sargava.
But they lack several key elements of the ritual - elements only descendents of the Hyrantum remnants would be able to recall via occult ritual.
Mak'da
|
Mak'da whispers to Valin, Time to kick in the door...
Valin Halcyon
|
Valin nods before remembering no one can see him.
Ready
He slams the door open before bracing his shield against anyone trying to leave the room.
Move, open the door. Standard, set the edge with his tower shield taking the place of the door.
Mak'da
|
We became visible when we attacked the giant.
Arisira
|
Wait. Let's ensure we are all ready!
Arisira will recast shield on herself, enlarge on Valin, and then cast haste right before we open the door
GM Eddv
|
I was 100% certain I updated this and was puzzled at the lack of replies
You approach and burst open the doors to find a library, two floors worth simply littered with books. Sprawled open, notes scrawled inside, certain passages dog eared and otherwise marked.
There is some sort of automated book sorting spell being used as certain books are put away on shelves while others are being transcribed and translated by an automated pen.
You feel a stiff draft coming from upstairs indicating the open door.
Mak'da
|
Quickly, upstairs, while our spells are in effect, Valin, take the lead?
Vera Darkone
|
"Let's Move! Vera moves as quickly as she can up the stairs behind Valin.
Valin Halcyon
|
The enlarged Valin rumbles up the stairs at the front of the party.
A thought crosses his mind, I really need a bit more practice running in armor.
Arisira
|
Arisira knocks and arrow, and travels along behind the others. Having seemingly abandoned stealth, she calls out to those in front of her.
"Inward and Upward!"
I have some rounds of perform to burn, so I'll start once we are about halfway up the stairwell

This message delay brought to you by multiple straight days of very bad timing and this being by necessity kind of an involved post
The group hustles up the stairs and finds themselves out in the open again as they approach the inner aerie of the tower.
In that time, a huge storm cloud opens in the sky and fire falls from the sky as the group approaches and ultimately kicks down the door even as most of the party is still on fire.

The first is a green skinned hag, Orleva, dressed identical to the woman who came to collect tribute while random trinkets from the soggy city below are scattered about the room.
The 2nd is a fiery shadow of the hag Vorysa you struck down the day before - reborn as witchfyre.
And finally, the leader, as seen in your vision, the storm hag Byruka leading the coven in their work and with murder in her eyes. You interlopers- you children of Hyrantum. You carry the spirits within you! The Missing link to the power I crave! I will have to extract it from your cranium post-mortem because I have foreseen there is no reasoning with you foul creatures!

I am fairly sure we would not press on if a bunch of us are actually on fire. Is there scope to stop and put ouselves out and heal up before doing so? If that means short durration buffs run out soo be it but charging on heedless with heavy damage while being on fire seems like a recipe for disaster.
GM Eddv

Well, I was sparing you making that decision and having ANOTHER Fire Storm erupt on you which is basically what would have happened. I mean there is some scope for you to turn back and make some preparations but those are gonna cut both ways here so it's up to you.
