The Man Behind the Curtain
|
The only thing the dead creatures have are the unholy symbols.
Shear and Enora move forward and the golems keep their march back and forth, moving the grain bags back behind the curtain. Once the 2 cross paths in front of Enora...
FWOOOSH
As soon as the flames begin to issue from Enora's hands, the golems move into a combat pose, however they are immediately overcome by Enora's flame. Rather than having the usual damaging properties (as Reavis noted) the flames seem to cause them to become warped and sluggish.

| Shear the Eidolon |
Shear brings all his attacks upon the golem holding off with his bite, not for lack of viciousness, but worry for chewing into a disease ridden body.

I forgot to mention their horrible stench, but since they didn't attack on sight I'll assume everyone waited until they saved to move in.
Shear's opening claw almost misses the golem, but its sluggish reflexes prevent it from taking its usual evasive actions.
The further golem lurches for slowly and makes a single attack on the Eidolon. Slam: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 - 1 = 17
...but too slow to connect.
Time for most fo the rest of the party!
Karg Once-Bound
|
Karg gives a frustrated growl as he moves up and swings with his falchion trying to stop the golem before it can act..
Falchion at Green: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Damage: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 1) + 5 = 10
The attack misses completely as he shouts complaints directed to those behind him.
"I should have expected this. Get the message one morning and next thing I know I'm on the other side of the world being attacked by assassins and I've been here now for almost two months now?"
"Did Bakten really not know who those assassins were from the beginning or was that another thing you didn't tell us?"
Vash Swiftfeet
|
"Lets go Milly!" Vash says as they charge over everyone to hit green golem.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 = 30

Reavis Smoot
|
Reavis would have drank his mutagen before the battle started. If that is an issue, I'll just have him do it later.
Reavis Smoot

Reavis moves further into the room and tosses a bomb at the northernmost carrion golem, "Why are we fighting these things, exactly?"
Using Precise Bombs Discovery to leave out friendly squares from splash

Fire Damage: 3d6 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 2) + 7 + 1 = 17
The other golem takes 11 fire damage unless it succeeds on a DC 17 Reflex save, then it only takes 5 fire.
Lars Boulderstep
|
"Because we don't want them behind us atacking us when we meet the Unfriendly one." Lars laughs as eh swings his own pick towards the closest Golem he can reach.
Pick Me! 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 71d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
His swing goes wide, hampered by the pots, his companions and most importantly the stench!
| Shear the Eidolon |
Shear continues to trample them. "I don't like enemies in front and behind, I can only protect one-"
Shear is interrupted when a blow comes barreling down on Karg's neck. The eidolon pushes into Karg's space and barely blocks a critical blow and just begins delivering a full onslaught of blows in reprisal.

The Man Behind the Curtain

Shear's bite tears a nasty chunk of bone out of the creature that struck at Karg. As it collapses, a torrent of burning entrails comes jettisoning out of the hole where its head should have been attached!
Fire Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) = 8
Everyone except Vash and Millie, make a reflex save DC 14 for half damage.
With the first bite felling his target, Shear's remaining attacks pummel the other golem, which strikes back in kind.
Slam: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 1 = 11
Everyone else's turn!
Karg Once-Bound

Karg Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8
Shear Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
"I am pay-", is all Karg gets out before taking the brunt the blast of flaming entrails.
Shear takes the blast too, but the flame has not effect on him.
"Alright, maybe I'll pay more attention."
Karg readies another swing but feels his aches and wounds across his body and instead withdraws rather than risk another explosion to himself.
"Like the demons all over again. Find out everything about them beforehand except for the attack that blasts half the party."
Karg pauses a moment before looking at Sharaheen.
"Wait, didn't you fight a dozen of these outside? Did none of those explode?"

The creature hears the sudden swoop as Millie lurches forward. It turns its body to face the pair in some awkward manner, almost as though its staring Vash down despite not having a head. The lance strikes true and a rain of gore covers Vash and Millie.

Each of the burlap sacks contain 30 pounds of rice and it appears as though the golems were dumping them into a hopper in the back of the room behind the. The cage off to the side of the room is unlocked. The statue in the center of the room represents Fumeiyoshi, wielding his favored weapon, a Naginata. Oddly enough, Vash notices that the naginata is actually a real weapon and is only painted to look the color of marble so to mesh with the statue.
Anyone searching the room, please also give me an appraise check.

Enora recognizes the details on the tapestry towards the back as depicting Fumeiyoshi's defeat of Tsukiyo, Prince of the Moon. In the first panel, Fumeiyoshi is shown sundering a piece of his brother's jade armor. Then, the lord of Envy gloats over his fallen brother with the shard of jade held high, while in the final panel, Fumeiyoshi thrusts the shard into an arcane circle here it crumbles into dust, activating a nearby portal in a graveyard.
Vash notices that the torn piece of jade resembles a hare.

Shear and Karg are ready to go.
"So you didn't bother looking into the elves that were following you around for a couple lifetimes. Couldn't this gone a lot faster if you and Shiori just talked to each other? The only reason she was hunting down you, Bakten, was to get vengeance against Jujanil."
Karg still is drawn into his complaints as he organizes and catalogs items as he recuperates from the trials of the most recent combat.
"She was the reason why we even came to this mountain in the first place. Maybe if you two had a conversation, this undead would have been dead and buried a hundred years ago."

A gigantic cylinder nearly fills this alcove and emits the rancid smell of fermented rice. A large pipe ascends from the machinery, carrying the pungent fluid away from the distillation apparatus before disappearing into the stone tiles above.

Sharaheen responds to Karg "I was very prideful in my previous incarnation, and in a position of power. People in positions of power are often the subjects of surveillance, or assassination, and my former self felt that the situation was stable without prying into such things too deeply. Perhaps though you could also ask yourself why Shiori felt the need to handle her vendetta with me so dishonorably? While the prideful nature of my prior incarnation is not something I aspire to maintain, Shiori certainly plays a roll in the unfortunate misunderstanding which resulting in a lead escaping my grasp for so long."
I'm not sure why I bothered to ask Reavis to roll for a DC15 Alchemy check...
This device on the landing between the 1st and 2nd floors is a machine for producing rice vinegar. It seems odd to have a device here that makes such vast quantities of vinegar, however you do recall tales of certain undead creatures that need to soak themselves in vinegar after gorging themselves on blood. Specifically, a Penanggalen.
What are 3 pieces of information you'd like to know about Penanggalens?
Continuing up to the 2nd floor, you find the vats that store all of this vinegar.
Pipes snake across the floor, feeding a series of fluid-filled vats before connecting to six metallic sarcophagi - three on each side of the chamber. In the chamber's center, a large glass vat rises past a second story balcony. To the south, anchored to the wall are three similar, ten-foot-tall vats. Two sets of stairs curl up the southern arc and provide access to the balcony that looms fifteen feet above.

"I have asked myself why Shiori decided to opt for waiting centuries, then murder an elderly man. I decided not to ask her on the off chance she decide to add 'kill the half-orc' to her will."
The summoner carefully moves into the room following behind Shear and others with keener senses. He moves to examine the sarcophagi, weapon in hand, to ensure they are still closed.
"What are your plans after we kill the other you? I'm not sure what that candle told you, but we left both places with problems bigger than we could fix."

The bubbling of the vats and sounds from the furnaces below are fairly noisy in this room. All of the sarcophagii are closed, however 3 of the vats on the east side have tell-tale signs of regular use. You do not see or sense any movement in the room, and nothing appears to be trapped.
"One problem at a time. The problem at hand is certainly a bigger problem than both of those combined... I will confess though, the candle told me nothing I did not already know."

"Well made though I can't tell either what enchantments it holds. I'd suggest making sure this whole room is clear."
After knowing about what type of creature that might be here.
"Is there a way to seal these creatures inside their coffins and perhaps replace it with acid?"
