Echo Syne |

Deuder, you have any idea what the boy is up to? We are, at a point where time is of the essence, and don't need to go looking for him.
Bokken, if we run across any materials, especially the fangberries, we will absolutely help you out. What is fair to your mind for the items mentioned, the draughts, the syrup, and the gumball?
Let's get back to Oleg's clear that area, claim what we need to start this leg of the mission, and maybe find some fangberries to help out the gentleman.

GM Darkblade |

Bokken stops directing the orb, letting it roll a bit on its own, staying just out of Blu's grasp. Well, tha healing draughts' be bout 45 gold each, tha syrup and gumball 250 a piece. Ya ain't allergic ta spider's is ya? As an afterthought, as he starts bringing the orb back to the porch, he adds Bring me those berries, an I kin have a few more things made up from what I's got left.
Deudermont looks at you dumbfounded. He had talked about heading to the River Kingdoms, but I just thought that was his crazy dreaming. No different from his talk about lost cairns and looting the bones of ages dead giants. No one really does that sort of thing, least wise not a tavern singer and an academic scholar. I guess I was duped by him as I was those brats at the boarding school.

GM Darkblade |

It seems no one else wishes to post here, so I will move forward
Leaving Bokken's without further discussion your band heads back towards Oleg's as night falls around you. It will take some time, but you should be there before dawn. Oy iff'n you changes yer minds I'll be 'ere. An iff'n ya finds tha berries, well, I'll still be 'ere.
I will need a Perception check from each of you, and a Survival check from anyone trained in the skill.
Deudermont's Perception Check 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 He rides close to Irakli, his eyes having trouble in the darkness.

Echo Syne |

Perception, Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Gentlemen, it is getting a great deal later than I was prepared for,
maybe we should stop for the night? I can't see where I am riding,
and there is not telling which direction we are going for sure. I
skipped celestial navigation growing up. We can pick this up at first light.

Grailmont |

I'm sure my survival skill is 7 but I will atone any false rolls
Grabbing a torch, grailmont held it about 45 degrees over his shield and shone the light through the trees, inspecting their surroundings.
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17;Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

As you pass through a wooded glen, an ideal spot to make camp, Grailmont notices many of the trees are splotched with webbing and detritus, some old and weathered, others more recent. As he calls for a halt, you hear chittering and whispers in the treetops. Spiders calling above
On your turn, please roll a Perception check to try to spot any remaining spiders before they act. It will be assumed you call out any you see unless you indicate otherwise.
Deudermont 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Echo 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Grailmont 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Irakli 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Rufus 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Spider 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Spider 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Spider 3 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Spider 4 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Initiative pairings are as follows:
Spider 4 & Echo - next
Rufus and Spiders 1 & 2
Grailmont & Irakli
Spider 3 & Deudermont
The first spider drops to the ground near a large hole in the earthen hillock that rises on the western edge of the glen. It calls back to it's mates, spittle splattering the stones around it. In halting common it whispers, fffresshh ffflliiiesss

Grailmont |

Would it be possible to sacrifice my perception check to take an extra action on horseback? I want to fashion a small firebomb out of cloth and a small drum of oil and tossing it in a tree to light up the entire area. I think I will take a -2 penalty for mounted archery, that and Im not sure how throwing things will go with my armor on, so I just need an Idea of what the rolls will be.

GM Darkblade |

You can spend a full turn creating such a weapon using an 8oz flask of oil, a strip of cloth, and a tindertwig, but you do not have a drum of oil. You could then use a hero point to toss the wicked flask of oil into the trees to try and catch them on fire, AC 10 to hit your mark. This would be about a 50% chance of catching one square on fire for 1-3 rounds and potentially spreading from there. Otherwise it is a flat 1d6 Fire Damage in the square targeted.
The Perception check was a free action, same as calling out targets, so you cannot trade it for really anything else.
And you would need to make a Ride check to handle the horse while doing this.

GM Darkblade |

The Ride Check would be a DC5 target unless you are in combat. Leaving your shield hung on your back or mount your penalty would be -4, -6 if you do it with your shield strapped on.
To throw the flask make an attack roll at +1 to hit, with a range of 10', subtract 2 for each additional 10' feet you want to throw the flask. If you miss, roll a d8 to determine where the flask does strike.
If the forest catches fire, everyone mounted will need to make further Ride Checks at an additional +2 to the target DC due to rising panic.

GM Darkblade |

Somehow the previous map was corrupted, someone tried to create an extra Rufus. Only move your icon on the map, press enter to lock it and change the IP address for the new map. You may have to move your icon a little to lock it to the grid. There is no need to bother the markers above the line. Don't forget to copy the address and include it along with your post.
Example: The spider crawled out of the hole 5'. It hissed menacingly.

Echo has about 5 hours remaining to post his action, after that I move him, Rufus and two spiders, then Grailmont and Irakli may act, cueing the next 48 hour window.

GM Darkblade |

Well, it does not look as though Echo will make his post tonight.
Echo, nervous of the trees and the spider voices, holds tight to his reins, keeping his horse steady and watches around him furtively, not scanning the trees, focused solely on the horse and his own defense. Ride Check, 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 a success, Total Defense will give him AC16.
Rufus moves over to a nearby tree, barking and clawing at the trunk as a spider (#2) from above starts to climb downwards. The creature shrieks at the dog and attempts to spray it with webbing. Ranged Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 vs AC13, missing. It would have been a DC12 Strength or Escape Artist Check to escape the webbing.
Another Spider (#1) climbs to the ground and hisses a challenging chitter at Irakli. Chyk chyk chak cachik chakyss
Grailmont and Irakli are next

Grailmont |

Grailmont Shone his shield and torch around himself and his party, ensuring no other spiders hide in the darkness.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Everyone regroup, keep your horses away from the spiders!
Updated Map

GM Darkblade |

Grailmont needed to make a ride check to control his mount since he is moving it instead of dismounting and securing it. Using the torch and controlling the horse means your shield is still on your back, so -4 penalty to the Ride Check 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (19) - 4 = 15 against DC5 for a success.
Grailmont notices one last spider on a high branch nearby, it's fangs dripping with venom as it bends it's spinneret in his mounts direction. As he turns his torch around to get a better look, he also notices how much larger spider (#4) is from the other spiders. While most have bodies the size of a pitbull, that one has the size of a fat pony.
Irakli is up, roughly 41 hrs to go.

GM Darkblade |

I didn't get the link to work, my bad, I moved my character and horse up a space.
When you move an icon on the map and press enter, if you get an invalid left 4g or some such message, the program is telling you which side of the icon is not aligned. Left Right Top so if you slightly adjust that side, you should get the hang of locking it to the grid. Move slightly, press enter, repeat until you do not get the message, and you should notice the IP address has changed. Copy that and paste it into the url post.

Irakli |

GM Darkblade |

Spider #3 launches a bundle of sticky webbing fibers at Grailmont's mount, a big juicy prize that should feed a swarm or two of baby spiders. Ranged Touch 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 2 = 20 which successfully strikes the front half of the horse, tangling it in place. The horse will need to try to escape the webbing on it's riders next turn. If Grailmont wishes to stay mounted, he will need to make a ride check as though controlling the mount in combat at that time.
Deudermont panics as the creature approaches himself and Rufus. He pulls a vial from his saddle and hurls it at the approaching spider (#2). Ranged Touch 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 1 - 4 = -2 which fails to fly high enough to hit the hissing arachnid. The vial bounces off a limb 1d8 ⇒ 4 landing behind the creature, though the scattering glass did spread fire around and part of it hit the thing for 1 point of fire damage. At this time you cannot tell if the flames will spread, but they are in the tree and amongst the leafy and web-covered canopy.
Round 2
The second round begins with Spider #4 rushing to aid it's smaller kin with tying down the struggling horse. Note the horse will risk an attack of opportunity from both spiders if it attempts to break free. Of course the creatures will probably bite it even if it doesn't but...
Echo is next to act.

Echo Syne |

GM Darkblade |

Interesting move, butting up the horses backend to backend. That will make it a little more difficult to get Grailmont's mount free of the webbing. He may need to just control the steed and wait until all the spiders are dead.
Initiative pairings remain as follows:
Spider #4 & Echo
Rufus and Spiders #1 & #2
Grailmont & Irakli
Spider #3 & Deudermont
Spider #2 drops down from the tree, both to avoid the fire and to try to sink his fangs into Rufus. Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 vs AC 13 misses. Rufus bites back, Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 vs AC 13, also missing.
Spider #1 quickly scurries through the trees, landing on the ground near Irakli and his mount. It launches a gob of webbing at his mount, Ranged Touch 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 4 = 16 striking the poor beast and holding it fast in place.
The rising panic in all the mounts begins to make it difficult to control them +2 to the difficulty for Ride Checks.
Grailmont & Irakli are next

Grailmont |

Grailmont dropped the torch to his left and swung his left leg over his horse, dropping to the ground with a thud. He then pulled his shield from his back and his sword from its sheath and sneared at the gigantic spider.
Dismount: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (19) - 6 = 13
Holding his shield up, he held his sword high over his head, pointed towards the foul beast and focused his gaze, lunging his sword between the spiders eyes.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

GM Darkblade |

Grailmont, I double-checked your character stats posted on the Paizo site, they are incorrect. Can you recheck your math for the 25 pt buy. I am showing 18/11/15/10/14/12 with the +2 human bonus. It looks like you added the modifier bonus to the score to get what you posted.
Grailmont snaps one of the creature's legs as he cleaves his sword into it's side, a thick burst of ichor flowing outwards. Though badly wounded, the spider remains standing, chittering commands to it's brethren.
Irakli is next, 24 hrs remaining.

GM Darkblade |

Irakli's arrow hits it's mark, punching into the chitinous armor and waving around as the creature moves closer.
Spider #3 moves up to defend it's "leader" trying to bite not the larger horse prey but Grailmont. Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 failing to pierce the lad's armor.
Deudermont attempts to control his mount while dismounting as the grove becomes more hectic. Ride Check 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6 and draws his morningstar from off the saddle. He takes a 5' step and swings at the creature, hoping together he and Rufus can protect his mount and save their lives. Stay away from my dog, you overgrown flysnip. Morningstar 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20 confirmation 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20 smashing the heavy spiked ball into the creature's face for 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (8, 4) + 2 = 14 of damage, killing the thing with a crunching ka-schlorpt.
The larger spider, (#4) moves around to get a better aim at Grailmont, and attempts to cover him with it's own sticky webs. Ranged Touch Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 hitting Grailmont's Touch AC 10. Grailmont is now covered in the webs and rooted in place. On his next turn Grailmont may attack but he is considered Entangled He may attempt either an Escape Artist Check or Strength Check instead of an attack to try to escape the gooey strands.
Initiative pairings are as follows:
Spider #4 & Echo
Rufus and Spider #1
Grailmont & Irakli
Spider #3 & Deudermont
Echo is next, 48 hour clock commencing

GM Darkblade |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Entangled BTW, you are anchored so may not move out of the square until you are free of the webbing.
An ability check is 1d20 plus your ability score modifier. It is applied against the target DC, in this case a DC 13 for the larger spider's web. This would be a standard action, the same if you opt for an Escape Artist check instead.

Echo Syne |

GM Darkblade |

Normally you would not be able to ride your horse through such heavy brush, but I will allow it this time. It seems no one understood when I said the bushes were obstructed squares. Irakli's masterwork bow will not get a bonus to hit, but it will add one point to his damage.
Initiative pairings are as follows:
Spider #4 & Echo
*Rufus and Spider #1
Grailmont & Irakli
Spider #3 & Deudermont
Rufus continues to savage the fallen spider, Deudermont too in shock from making such a successful swing to call the dog off.
Spider #1 advances on Irakli, spitting webs at the elf, trying to pin him down next to his big, juicy horse. Ranged Touch 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 missing him as the elf ducks out of the path, 1d8 ⇒ 5 landing instead in Echo's square, covering him and his mount in webbing.
Grailmont & Irakli are next 48 hour clock started

Grailmont |

As he was hit with the webbing, he grinned and gritted his teeth. You're gonna regret that, you foul beasts...
Ability check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Not even using his sword, grailmont ripped himself free of the webbing, a crazed look took his face as he then brought his sword down on the fat spider once more
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Perception: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

GM Darkblade |

Grailmont ripped himself free of the webs and swung defensively to keep the spiders on guard, but he could not make a serious attack this round. The Strength Check was a standard action to complete, so you only have a Move Action remaining. And I think you meant to type Damage rather than Perception.

Irakli |

Looks back at Echo. I'm sorry not to help you but I want to kill this menace, but I will help you in a bit
Takes another arrow from the quiver on his lower back and knocks it and lets it fly in one fluent motion.
To hit spider 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
If hits: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

GM Darkblade |

Irakli's arrow misses the creature, the shot nudged by the fidgeting horse, trying to escape it's bonds. Mount penalties increase by another -2, for a total of -4 now.
Spider #3 bites at the food that refuses to stay bound in it's webbing, striking at Grailmont with it's fangs. Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 piercing his armor along the calf, for 1d4 ⇒ 3 damage, it's Poison coursing into his veins. Fort Save roll please Grailmont.
Deudermont, still in a fog, turns and moves towards the larger spider, keeping close to the tree behind it. He swings his Morningstar 1d20 ⇒ 6 missing by a wide margin. He calls Rufus to his side, the hound stopping when it realizes it's master is again in danger.
Spider #4, confronted on two sides, wavers a moment before deciding which food to attack, odd Grailmont, even Deudermont 1d6 ⇒ 1 deciding to strike at the prey it has been wrestling with. Bite Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 but Grailmont was ready, barely, and deflected the fangs from finding purchase on his armor, even as a sweat breaks out on his brow from the other creatures bite.
Initiative pairings are as follows:
*Spider #4 & Echo
Rufus and Spider #1
Grailmont & Irakli
Spider #3 & Deudermont
Echo is next, 72 hour grace period for him on vacation

GM Darkblade |

Echo makes a Ride Check to see if he can urge his mount to break free of the webbing and move back towards Deudermont 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 10 successfully urging the horse to use it's strength and four legs to lunge forward Strength Check 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 2 = 20 ripping out of the webs and off towards his destination. The horse works it's way back through the brush, following the broken trail it previously blazed, nearly as much to obey it's rider as to escape the large hairy menace behind it.
Rufus moves up and attempts a Flanking Bite Attack against Spider #4 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 2 = 24 rolling for 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7 but failing to confirm a critical threat, ripping and tugging at a leg for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 damage.
Spider #1 lunges forward and attempts to Bite Attack Irakli 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14, it's fangs punching hard against the elf's armor but failing to puncture to the soft tissues beyond. As it draws it's head back, a clear oily stain spreads from the bite point.
Initiative pairings are as follows:
Spider #4 & Echo
Rufus and Spider #1
*Grailmont & Irakli
Spider #3 & Deudermont
Grailmont and Irakli are next, 48 hour clock counting

Grailmont |

Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 Against (assuming) Medium Spider Venom DC 14 = cured
Staggering a bit, he took his fist and pounding his chest a couple of times, taking a deep breath, shaking his head. Tis' nothing different from the nasty beasts in the rostlands He wiggled his toes, they felt a bit numb in his boots, however he turned to the spider that bit him, wanting to exact revenge. My turn to bite..
Holding his shield up, he jumped in the air and swung his sword down on his foe, To hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 To confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15; Failing to crit, however does strike the creature for Attack: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Standing up from his strike, ready for a riposte, he grinned from ear to ear. Now THAT was a bite.

GM Darkblade |

GM Darkblade |

It is a +1 to strike with the Rapier, at least until you have the Weapon Finesse Feat. Irakli took Agile Maneuvers I believe. It was still a successful thrust.
Irakli thrust his blade deep into the creatures abdomen as it reared back, the thin blade not doing enough harm to kill the creature, yet.
Initiative pairings are as follows:
*Deudermont & Echo
Rufus and Spider #1
Grailmont & Irakli
Spider #3 strikes at Grailmont, attempting to increase the venom flowing through his veins, hoping to bring him down. Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 latching onto him and pumping a bit more poison into the man's veins. Fort Save please The bite tears lightly at his leg, doing 1d4 ⇒ 1 Damage.
Deudermont rushes over to help Grailmont, swinging at the uninjured spider with his Morningstar 1d20 ⇒ 12, his swing glancing off the creatures carapace, scratching it's surface.
Echo is up, 72 hour clock counting

GM Darkblade |

This is the best you could do, considering you are moving into and out of heavy shrubbery, under limbs, through brush, and into ongoing combat, over 40' distance in six seconds while controlling the mount and trying to successfully cast a spell. I do not think riding a horse goes how you think riding a horse goes.
Echo's Ride Check To control the mount 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 4 = 3
Echo's Ride Check To stay in the saddle 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 4 = 4
Echo's Ride Check To not land on arse 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 4 = -1
Echo's damage landing on his arse 1d3 ⇒ 3
Echo's Concentration to manage to hold on to the spell while landing on his arse, taking damage to his tail bone, and still trying to reach Deudermont's weapon while it is in use Check 1d20 + 1 + 4 - 1 - 3 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 4 - 1 - 3 = 11 vs DC 20 causes him to lose the spell.
Echo is on the ground, on his gluteous max, his horse is beside him head south, tail north.
Rufus moves around the horse to attack Spider #3, Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 failing to latch onto one of the spider's many twitching and jerking legs.
Spider #1, injured by the prickly elf, tries to snap it's mandibles around Irakli's calf, Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11, failing to do so.
Initiative pairings are as follows:
Deudermont & Echo
Rufus and Spider #1
*Grailmont & Irakli
Spider #3
Grailmont and Irakli are next, 48 hour clock counting

Grailmont |

Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
As the spider latched to his leg and pumped venom into his veins, grailmont cried out in anger, kicking the beast away. It's time to DIE! He yelled, he held his sword upside down, gripping it with both hands, and will all his might he used the strength in his right leg and launched himself in the air, To hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 his sword landing just behind the spiders head, Dealing: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Damage, pulling his sword from the spider, he began to stumble backwards, the venom taking his toll on his leg

GM Darkblade |

The venom courses through Grailmont's limbs, weighing them down like lead thickening in his veins. Poison Strength Damage 1d2 ⇒ 2 Current score temporarily drops by 2 points.
The spider he stabbed before retreating still twitches and jerks, lashing out at the stings of it's prey. It bites at Random 1d3 ⇒ 2 Grailmont's bound horse Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 Confirmation 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 for 1d4 ⇒ 4 of damage and spits it's numbing bile into the equine's leg.
The horse rears from the pain, Strength Check 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 2 = 21 and a Fortitude Save 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9, ripping free of the entangling webs and rushing away from the danger.
Deudermont palls, seeing Grailmont moving away from the fight. Not willing to abandon Rufus, not really sure the dog will heel even if commanded, Deudermont moves to shield Echo's horse and swings his Morning Star at the thing, 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 , his flanking strike crushing into it's skull for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 damage, ending it's life.
Initiative pairings are as follows:
*Deudermont & Echo
Rufus and Spider #1
Grailmont & Irakli
Spider #3
Echo is next, 72 hour window started

GM Darkblade |

Rufus continues tearing at the spider, until Deudermont calls him off. The spider continues to twitch a little as the life fades out of it.
Spider #1 again strikes at Irakli, attempting to poison the creature that resists it's role as food. Bite Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 again missing it's mark.
Initiative pairings are as follows:
Deudermont & Echo
Rufus and Spider #1
*Grailmont & Irakli
Grailmont & Irakli are next, 48 hour clock is ticking
