GM Chyro, if I'm not being completly clear when I use my powers tell me and I'll try to be clearer. I know mesmerist, and Ganzis can do extrange things and I don't mind to change how I post.
| GM Chyro |
A heads up team.
Phase 3 will commence on 5th of July.
That means 5 days to try and book a success here.
I'm positive you can do it, but if not, it will potentially mean forced advancement into the main storyline, skipping this scene.
I do not know this for sure, but that is the impression i get.
We will know for sure when the overseer makes her post at that time.
Velinov

Since Velinov feels slightly useless in the current situation, please feel free to move forward and not wait for a post from him... since the times during the day that I check the forum appear to be out of sync with the rest of the group.

★ - OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT - ★
Hello Cosmonauts!
The lovely staff at Paizo gave me 15 ten-dollar gift certificates to distribute across the Cosmic Captive Special. Alas, we have 25 tables, so not every table can win one. In order to pick winners, I’m hosting a Cosmic Giveaway!
The Rules:
You cannot nominate yourself. You cannot pick me. Pick someone else (fellow player, GM, backup GM) who made your experience of Cosmic Captive fun! Tell me why!
You can submit only one name, but you can make a submission on the above link from now until July 9th.
Some names will likely get chosen because of the stories you tell me. Some may get selected in a random lottery. I’ll try to spread the love around to as many different tables as I can.
Hugs,
Hmm

Velinov, to your question,
I found 2 threads, where people quote the CRB as per followed.
To prepare his daily spells, a wizard must first sleep for 8 hours. <snip> If his rest is interrupted, each interruption adds 1 hour to the total amount of time he has to rest in order to clear his mind, and he must have at least 1 hour of uninterrupted rest immediately prior to preparing his spells.
When preparing spells for the day, a wizard can leave some of these spell slots open. Later during that day, he can repeat the preparation process as often as he likes, time and circumstances permitting. During these extra sessions of preparation, the wizard can fill these unused spell slots.
He cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because he has cast a spell in the meantime.
That sort of preparation requires a mind fresh from rest. Like the first session of the day, this preparation takes at least 15 minutes, and it takes longer if the wizard prepares more than one-quarter of his spells.
| GM Chyro |
Lots of stuff on spells. :P
I'm only going from the specials i've played, but those like the Sky Key, the action happens during what appears to be a day.
Unless i see the mission mention it spans multiple days, i assume this to be so.15 minutes for open slots is highly likely available time. Starting an 8 hours rest during this whole thing's happening, i'd have to say no.
To the spoiler,
The cavern is enormous enough to house the ice and to provide space for it not to drop on top of you guys.
Adamantine weapons would work, but you'd be spending a little while to break them.
Fire, if you can reach the ice with it, will work over time.
The table at which i play, we set up our torches once we got it down.
Xukong
|
What about my Black Blade?
| GM Chyro |
What do you mean.
I might be overlooking something? Can it deal fire dmg?
Xukong
|
Well, it's an extremely magical weapon, and presently unbreakable. Does that not count for something?
| GM Chyro |
Other than useful, it won't make much of a difference, no.
Xukong
|
"Other than useful?" That sounds like something...not sure what, though.
Guinfa Mlumbi

Regarding people in ice.
The only idea I have is to have someone climb and attack the chain, if he can make more damage than the hardness the chain has it will eventualy break, even if the weapon isn't adamantine. Can someone make reliabily the DC 17 to climb? Is he/she willing to try?
The next thing is melt the ice. I have some alchemist fire, but no firewood or somethig that can serve as it.
Xukong

Provided I'm allowed to take 10 on all the Climb checks here, I'll make that no problem - and since my sword is unbreakable, I should be able to hack the chains apart by virtue of persistence even if it can't overcome their hardness.
| GM Chyro |
If it were that simple.
But you can take 10 on the climb checks, yes.
Guinfa Mlumbi
|
Please, climb.
Maybe you could not overcome the hardness or maybe you'll could, but at least we had tried something.
Xukong
|
I think there's been a misunderstanding; I already said I was climbing.
| GM Chyro |
Maybe more a misunderstanding, in response to Xukong's post in game.
Let me be clear: Based on what you told me, I was under the clear impression that while hacking at the ice would be dangerous, simply climbing the wall or hacking at the chains would not (since they're at least a short distance away from the ice).
----------------
My post:@ Archon,
The ceiling is 70 feet up, and that is where the main parts of the chains hold the ice up.
Getting to the chains requires climbing/flying.
You'd climb 20ft on a regular wall, then 50ft along the ice itself.
The personal spoiler warned you of potential harm.
It was my assumption that Xukong climbs, aware of the risk of harm, through personal spoiler.
I have no problem with you going back down at the moment you suffered 1st dmg.

Does the spell they cast on us at the beginning help us in regards to the cold? Otherwise, we should tell Sorrina to bring a senior group this way.
| GM Chyro |
The spell doesn't help here. That one helps against environmental conditions.
Guinfa Mlumbi
|
Velinov, we don't have firewood or anything to create a large bonfire. I think Quan has a torch, some of us have alchemist's fire and that's all the fire we have.
I vote to tell Sorrina to Send a senior group and go to another plce to help. Or go on to other parts of the Water side if that's a possibility.
| GM Chyro |
The water zone is safe.
The Vault area is currently where action is happening. But the overseer will make the phase 3 post tomorrow.
Archon the Divine Caller
|
Under Divine Heralds: "Because of these summoned monsters’ strong ties to the herald caller’s deity, the herald caller also gains specific benefits with creatures she summons with summon monster spells gained from her cleric spell list. The herald caller and her summoned monsters can understand each other’s spoken words as if they shared a common language (though this doesn’t give summoned monsters the ability to speak if they normally lack it)."
| GM Hmm |
Oh, I hope that this summoned ant plan works for you guys! I move you forward on July 5th!
Hmm
Archon the Divine Caller
|
Assuming Archon's ant can communicate with other ants on his behalf, I could use the want to summon another one, if an additional 3 rounds would make a difference for the work?
One of the issues with this is Summon Monster spells have a very short range. For me, it has to stay within 40ft or the spell ends. For a wand, I believe it is auto set to 30ft. But, like I said, you are welcome to jump on my back. :P
Archon the Divine Caller
|
@ Archon:
1) To be clear, you are clamping onto the ant, not riding, correct?
As a medium creature can ride a large creature, but not medium. Unless you shrink yourself a little. ;)
2) How many kits are we talking about here?
3) A creature with Climbing speed cannot take the run action while Climbing.
1.) I am not technically "riding" the ant, just holding on. <Technically you can ride a same sized creature. They created a Feat Undersized Mount that, well technically does nothing, because a medium creature riding a medium creature was already allowed in the CRB>, but no, I'm just hanging on.
2.) Honestly just 2 or 3. I have scriveners kit, Masterwork Survival Kit, and Cleric Kit at most. Maybe not the Cleric's Kit.3.) Good catch. I never noticed that, but then I generally don't use Climbing creatures.
Xukong
|
I would, but you can't heal me easily; otherwise, I like your plan.
| GM Chyro |
Ok, even the single cleric kit has 10 torches.
So type what you do in gameplay and we go from there.
| GM Hmm |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Yep. I agree. Better beat that darn Overseer!
♬ The ants go marching up the wall
Hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching up the wall
Hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching up the wall
Lugging clerics, torches et al.
And they all go marching
UP on the WALL
Better hope they don't FALL
Da da dum dum...
The ants go marching near the ice
Hurrah, hurrah
They're marching on the cleric's advice
Hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching near the ice
Though the temps are NOT nice
And they all go marching
UP on the WALL
Answering the Rebel CALL ♬
PS The Overseer is laughing. You have approx. 4 hours. GO! You can do it!
| GM Chyro |
Please do decide on the wish, before you actually advance to part 3.
Archon the Divine Caller
|
Copied from the Game Thread:
To be honest, I want nothing. The good deed was reward enough for me. For the party, though a few items might not be a bad idea, (such as a Scroll of Breath of Life or two). Alternatively, perhaps Paying it forward might be something to consider if other tables need help like we received.
Because this is PbP, my preference in order would be
1.) Nothing (freeing people was it's own reward)
2.) Giving the Wish back to the community, though technically not one of the options presented, and I don't want to upset the balance by making this too much of a crutch if it was a 1 time thing.
3.) items, namely a few scrolls of Breath of Life and things like lesser restoration
Xukong
|
Note that unlike raise dead, breath of life doesn't work on Dhampir, for what it's worth.
If we decide to wish for items, I wouldn't mind a Ring of Protection and/or a wand of scorching ray.
Another idea, though it wasn't specified: Could we wish for luck (i.e. one free reroll apiece, or something like that), or maybe skill (like a +1 insight bonus to attack and damage rolls for the rest of the adventure)?
| GM Chyro |
Sorry, but the PDF specifically calls out for those options.
Xukong
|
Not surprised, but no harm in asking, right?
My suggestions for items (if that's what we choose) stands.
Another idea: What do we think of a wand of heroism? It would eat up 11,250 worth of what we're allowed, but it's a universally helpful spell that would last 50 minutes a charge, and Velinov should be able to use it with no problem.
Velinov
|
Velinov would vote to return the altruism of a deceased party member, if that has happened to another group. Barring that, I think we go for the magic items. It appears we're not as well prepared magically; maybe a wand of comprehend languages in addition to some buffing wands?
Archon the Divine Caller
|
I have a wand of Comp Languages, but we are only levels 3 and 4. There are not a lot of realky good buffs to have.
Archon the Divine Caller
|
Note that unlike raise dead, breath of life doesn't work on Dhampir, for what it's worth.
Its also worth noting that I cant actually cast this yet, so scroll may fail. Same with Raise Dead, but Breath of life has a time limit.
Really, Im cool with whatever the party chooses.
Quan Tai
|
I'd vote first to remove Con damage, and restore ourselves to full health. Barring that, heroism is useful.
Xukong
|

That's another reason to wish for a wand instead of scrolls - they don't have that problem, so long as the user is of the right class.
| GM Chyro |
From what i gather:
Archon:
Goes with the general majority.
Guinfa:
To be determined.
Quan Tai:
Restoring health and conditions to the party.
Wand of heroism 2nd option.
Shiba:
Restoring health and conditions to the party.
Velinov:
I have yet to get a confirmation of me asking that.
In favor of buffing wand 2nd.
Xukong:
Atm in favor of a heroism wand.
2 in favor of restoration, 2 in favor of buffing
It seems to come down to Guinfa.
Guinfa Mlumbi
|
If you got a confirmation we can resurrect another character I would like that, even if that means a tie and we have to talk about that.
If not, I'll accept some buffing wands, heroism or whatever. heroism on Shiba will be better in a roll than removing a negative level
And if there's still some money left a wand of ill omen will allow me to debuff some enemies and preserve some of my spells. But first a buffing wand.
| GM Chyro |
No confirmed other casualties.
Who will be carrying the heroism wand?
A wand of Ill omen costs 750gp, so that is 12k spent.
Are you fine with those wands, or are you guys going for more?
Velinov
|
Velinov has Enchantment/Charm as an opposition school, so I'm assuming Guinfa plans on using the wand? Apparently he took the class when Prof. Snape was teaching it...
Quan Tai
|
I didn't think Velinov was Thassilonian. Most wizards can use magic items from their opposition schools. In any case, Tai can use a wand of heroism.
As for ill omen, we don't have any witches to use it. I'd rather get a wand of magic missile for Velinov.
| GM Chyro |
Actually, mesmerists have ill omen on their spells list. It hasn't been mentioned via the d20pfsrd though.
Archon the Divine Caller

How about this? It should take care of most people's desires, removing the Con Damage, a Negative Level, and allow people to get a few items. I through on the Holy Symbol Tattoo because it sounds cool to get it via a Genie's Wish. While it's not 100% that I can activate the Scroll of Restoration, I can try over and over until it's done, which shouldn't be a problem assuming we have a few minutes.
I also added an extra Scroll of Lesser Restoration for each of us.
Wand of Heroism - 11,250
Wand of Ill Omen/Magic Missile - 750 (12,000)
Scroll of Restoration - 700 (12,700)
Scroll of Lesser Restoration - 150 (12,850)
Scroll of Lesser Restoration - 150 (13,000)
Ring of Protection +1 - 2,000 (15,000)
Scroll of Lesser Restoration x6 - 900 (15,900)
1,000 gp Diamond for the Restoration - 1,000 (16,900)
Holy Symbol Tattoo - 100 (17,000) (A Longspear planted in the ground as if warding against villainy, the symbol of the Silver Crusade as a backdrop, and surrounded by celestial glyphs of protection and the four elements, in the center of his forehead.)
