Lasaraleen heals the party's injuries before they turn in for the night. Thanks to the your quick investigation, they are able to gain valuable insight into the where the enemy could be hiding. The next two days are relatively quiet.

At the end of the third day, you find Guaril Karela in the main meeting room in the Ashfall Lodge. “I hope you uncovered some information, my friends,” says Guaril as he applies a dab of wax to his moustache, “For my investigation was only partially successful. My sources tell me that the filthy weasels stealing my cargo are hiding in an abandoned fort. Which fort, they could not say. I would have learned more, but some men...they cannot tolerate pain, eh? Sadly for us, the Nirmathi abandoned many forts after the last Molthuni invasion. These four are our best bets.”

He presents you a map of Tamran and the surrounding region. (See slide 1.) ”Forts Faelon, Machema, Ursoss and Drejas. Those are the best bets. We could search them all, but our foe may bring in reinforcements while we're in the wrong one.”

    Based on a hunch and some logic, Lasaraleen looks at Fort Ursoss. Karela nods and tweaks his mustache a bit. "Yes, that sounds like a good place to start our search. Let's go."

    ”The basement level should be relatively intact, and would be ideal for a base.” Karela escorts you to a burned down fort. ”Let’s scout the area, I’m sure there is a trapdoor around here.”

    It doesn’t take too long to find a trapdoor underneath some brush. It leads to a tunnel ending with an iron gate. ”Hmm, this could be a secret entrance.” He stands guard and draws his rapier. ”I’ll stay here and stand guard in case they escape through here. There was a split in the tunnel a bit back, head back there and continue on. Flush out these thieves!”

    The iron gate is heavily reinforced, but you did find another way into Fort Ursoss’s basement level.

    Stone steps lead up from the north corner of this small room. An open archway leads south, while a second archway leading west is obstructed by rubble and mud.

    Moving south, you see a room that was once used as a storage room. Water drips slowly from a leak in the roof in the northwest corner, forming a muddy puddle on the floor. Human and animal tracks cover the floor.

    DC 16 Survival:
    The animal tracks belong to badgers and weasels.

    I have moved you to slide 1. Feel free to prep yourselves and establish marching order.

    To the left on the southern side the party sees what seems to be a set of barracks. You find some pamphlets espousing the joys of Ramziri and a hymn book offering great rewards to those who smash the disbelievers. This must have been where the Ramziri priest and his goons made their home.

    Advancing forward, Darven sees a fork in the road. To the North he sees some kind of armory, while the Western branch he sees some animal cages filled with weasels and badgers.

    Rubble and debris block the eastern half of this room, while sparsely filled weapon and armor racks line the remaining intact walls. All of the armor bears the insignia of the Crimson Kestrel.

    You also find 2 masterwork chain shirts and 2 composite longbows (+2 Str).

    Confident they have investigated the armory and barracks, the party moves on to the western room.

    Rolled up straw mats lie in a pile against the western wall of this room, leaving the damp earthen floor exposed. The walls appear freshly cleaned, though they are still speckled with stray flecks of moss and mold. Open cages line the southern wall of the room, and the air is rich with the smell of recently shifted earth.

    As you enter the room, a human woman with black and white hair stands up, spits in your direction, cracks her knuckles, and smiles confidently, revealing a row of canine teeth. “Welcome, Pathfinders. I take it you aren’t interested in surrendering without a fight?” A pair of giant weasels hiss at you and bare their fangs.

    The open cages have weasels, badgers, stoats and other tiny-sized mustelids. They hiss and start scattering along the floor, sometimes nipping at you.
    You may be able to stop the swarm from interfering if you take some time to Intimidate or Handle Animals. You may also try to attack the cages directly, but like a swarm there are too many to attack individually.

    Hearing the clearly hostile comments Liminy will move up to see into the room. He then smiles at the target rich environment.

    Not concerned with the resistances of animals but I learn everything else.

    Liminy casts fireball safe from the weasel due to the interposing wall.
    It hits the witch, both weasel, and a couple of the cages full of smaller animals. But not Darven though his eyebrows may crinkle a bit.

    Liminy chooses the right time to unleash flame upon his enemies.

    Unfortunately, most of his targets were prepared for it and dove for cover or leaned against the walls. Several smaller weasels scatter from the cages and flee the room altogether, with no plans to return.

    Liminy at first thinks the woman is a lycanthrope, but realizes she isn't fully like that. She seems to be a Skinwalker, a race of animal-augmented humanoids who can adapt animal traits to gain strength and endurance. She carries no weapons, so perhaps she relies on something else than her teeth. The weasel, stoats and other mustelids in the room suggest that's where she can trace her roots.

    The young dire weasels can fly into a rage as soon as they get any kind of injury, lowering their defense but letting them take more damage and hit harder. These weasels are also capable of biting and grabbing their targets, draining lots of blood and damaging their Constitution over time. Weasels are natural burrowers and can often hide beneath the surface as ambush predators.

    A badger emerges from beneath the ground next to Cetanna, its fur partially burnt. It runs next to the Skinwalker and drinks some of her potion before flying into a rage.

    The other two weasels try to grab onto Darven.

    Grab: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 1 = 15

    Crit Bite: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 1 = 13
    Crit Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10

    Both of them pierce his armor, neither managing to hit a vital blood vessel. He quickly shakes them off when they try to latch on.

    He then backs off a bit to give others a better view of the room.

    Not sure if any enemies were effected by Prayer but if they were they get -1 to the save.

    With the weasels blinded, one of Gadget's arrows hits and kills the blinded red weasel.

    Grog slips by the other blinded weasel and chops right into it.
