Jaggar Greycloak |
"Whoa! How did I suddenly start to fly! How do I steer this thing?"
Jaggar tries to fly up towards Maarve.
No clue what he needs to roll for a fly check. he has no fly skill.
GM Bold Strider |
@Jaggar: Since you already posted a set of actions to keep a readied action, I am going to use that as your action for the round.
As Maaarv flies upwards, three statues below him leap into action, likely defending the building.
The statues seem to rush down side pathways and you hear their heavy footsteps on the stairs.
Initiative:
1st: Alie; Jarlgur; Mathais; Jaggar; Maaarv
2nd: Morlock; Statues (Red; Green; Blue)
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv follows the morlock up to the top of the strange monolith. Once up, and clear of the morlock, he throws another explosive bomb at the creature.
Ranged Touch, PBS: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 1 = 21
Fire Damage, PBS: 4d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 4) + 6 + 1 = 22
With the hit, the Morlock will need to make a DC 20 Reflex save as a full-round action each round or take 1d6 fire damage each round.
Jaggar Greycloak |
sure that is what he wanted anyway. not familiar with fly so do not know if getting fly cast upon him makes him start to fly immediately. was just playing it up.
Alie Saechel |
"It's instinctive....just go with it Jaggar! Trust me...it'll work!.
Are the statues heading down toward Alie and Jarlgur, or up toward the fliers?
GM Bold Strider |
Reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
The statues seemed to have moved from the first floor to the second floor.
Initiative:
1st: Alie; Jarlgur; Mathais; Jaggar; Maaarv
2nd: Morlock @ 22 damage; Statues (Red; Green; Blue)
Alie Saechel |
Alie next casts Fly on Jarlgur, trying to get all of her friends in the air before she follows.
Alie Saechel |
I was assuming it would be easier and quicker to Fly, especially if there are statues running around trying to intercept us. If the fellas don't want to Fly the whole way, they can land and handle things that way.
Mathais |
"Alie, do you want me to pop my fly potion, should I wait for you to touch me so I can fly, or should I guard the stairs?" Mathais says as he waits for Alie's response.
Alie Saechel |
"I've got more spells today if you want to save the potion, or you can chug it right down. Up to you. But I do think all of us need to get up there, and if we don't have to take the stairs, we might be able to avoid some foes."
Mathais |
Mathais reaches into his handy haversack, and in one swift motion downs the potion of fly he's been carrying.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Maaarv laughs at the morlock. "Just trying out some magical words, eh?"
He then hovers in place and tries to pelt the morlock with more bombs.
Fly to hover in place: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20
Explosive Bomb, PBS: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 1 = 14
Fire Damage: 4d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 4) + 6 + 1 = 18
Iterative: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 1 = 16
Fire Damage: 4d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 2) + 6 + 1 = 21
For each hit, the morlock needs to make a DC Reflex save as a full-round action or take 1d6 fire damage until the flames are put out. Rolling on the ground adds 2 to the roll.
Jaggar Greycloak |
Jaggar continues to fly up using his doggy paddle stroke (he is not accustomed to flying) until he is with the others.
not sure if he can attack this round with his flying and the distance.
Alie Saechel |
Alie double moves this round, following Jaggar. She went looking for that morlock, however.
I'll assume I'm in good spell range next round.
Jarlgur Flamnord |
Flying to stay just out of reach of the statue, Jarlgur charges the red one.
Flying Charge w/ Reach!, PA: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 21
Vital Strike: 2d12 + 5 + 6 ⇒ (8, 11) + 5 + 6 = 30
Mathais |
Mathais will double move/fly up towards the top level.
Swift action -- Judgements of Destruction & Justice, Double move for rest of actions
GM Bold Strider |
Jaggar and Jarlgur crush one of the columns as Mathais and Alie catch back up.
Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
The morlock passes out from the flames and plummets down to a splash below. The creature's broken body can be seen floating in the pond around the base of the obelisk.
Over the next three rounds, the Pathfinders destroy the columns one-by-one until a deep rumbling permeates the area. To the south, shaky lumber extends over the cove toward a makeshift platform that towers over a sinister rock formation resembling a fiendish snarl. At the planks’ distant end, several shivering forms lie outstretched, profanely tied in offering. A waterfall roars behind the rock formation, and the shadow of a dark cave lingers beyond the waterfall’s curtain. A thick mist rises from the cove’s waters some 30 feet below the rickety scaffold.
A giant spider creatures erupts from the middle of the area and consumes three of the humanoids on the platform with ease.
Initiative:
Maaarv: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Mathais: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Jarlgur: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Jaggar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Alie: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
?: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Initiative:
1st: Mathais
2nd: ???
3rd: Maaarv; Jarlgur; Jaggar; Alie
Mathais |
Mathais looks over a Jaggar and casts Battlemind Link on both of them, and says, "Stay Close, we can take care of this monster in no time."
Jagger/GM: When we both attack in melee, we both roll for attacks & we take the best rolls. Also, swift judgements destruction and justice.
GM Bold Strider |
The giant spider lashes out and gobbles up three more tied up humanoids as its eyes glimmer with the colors of the rainbow. The creature's mandibles bite and sever the flesh of its prey as the screams echo across the cavern, muffled only by the waterfall.
Demon lords use retrievers to seek out those who dare abandon their loyalties or flee from servitude. Often, the presence of a retriever in a demon's den is enough in and of itself to ensure the loyalty of the lesser demons. The constructs also excel in tracking down specific objects and returning them to their masters—their intelligence is just enough to allow them to focus on their ordered tasks but not quite enough for them to form ideas of rebellion and longings for freedom.
They are remarkably brutal using their bite and four claws to rend the flesh from opponents with ease. The worst part is the prismatic eye blasts that the retriever can use to inflict damage or death on its victims.
Initiative:
1st: Mathais
2nd: ???
3rd: Maaarv; Jarlgur; Jaggar; Alie
Alie Saechel |
Know. Arcana 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
"Ugh, this thing is really bad," Alie yells as she describes its properties. She casts Haste, hoping her friends could put a hurt on the monster before it could cause more death and destruction.
Remember your Haste bonuses. Also, please read the DM's last spoiler for the K. Arc. roll. I'm on my phone, so I don't want to re type everything. This fight's going to be a doozy, I'm afraid!
GM Bold Strider |
Maaarv and Mathais follow Jaggar and Jarlgur, leaving Alie behind. The huge retriever leaps over to the other platform to crunch down on three more archaelogists... It seems only a matter of a few more seconds before he eats the rest.
Initiative:
1st: Mathais
2nd: Chaos That Crawls
3rd: Maaarv; Jarlgur; Jaggar; Alie
Alie Saechel |
Alie closes to within range and casts Fireball at the retriever, before the others engaged it in melee. She keeps at range of around 150' however, not wanting to get too close to the beast.
Fireball damage 9d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 2, 1, 5, 2, 1, 6) = 33
DC 21 Reflex save for half.
Mathais |
Mathais casts another spell and touches Jagger, then moves a little closer.
Lend Judgement, (Justice Judgement, Sacred Bonus) so Jagger gets +3 to hit, and another +3 to confirm crits.
Jagger, If you don't kill this thing in no time I'll be disappointed.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv takes flight and moves as quickly as he can down the hallway to join the others, thanks to Alie's haste.
Double move.
Jarlgur Flamnord |
Jarlgur casts a spell, creating a burst if light over the creature, then flies closer.
Burst of Radience: 5d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 2, 3) = 15 DC 16 Ref for dazzle vs blind
Can't edit map, atm. Jarlgur will cast and move 90' south.
GM Bold Strider |

From the eye of the beast, a 1d4 ⇒ 4 green blast shoots out at Jarlgur.
Eye Beam @ Jarlgur-15 TAC: 1d20 + 18 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 18 - 1 = 30
Fortitude Save DC 17 or Petrified.
The creature's wounds seem to slowly heal.

Mathais |
Kn Planes: 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 10 = 28
Mathais charges in and swings at the foul creature.
Assuming the Fly potion hasn't worn off, I'll eat the AoO, not even trying to avoid it. Also, swift action, bane creature subtype.
Attack!: 1d20 + 12 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 21

Damage!: 1d8 + 10 + 4 + 4d6 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 4 + (1, 2, 3, 1) = 24
If the fly potion has worn off, Mathais will run around the platforms to try to get as close to flanking as possible with Jagger
GM Bold Strider |
It can. It is irrelevant.
Fortitude Save - Jarlgur: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Mathais and Jaggar take down the Chaos that Crawls in a single round as Jarlgur resists the petrifying effect. The retriever’s corpse quickly sinks to the bottom of the cove’s cold waters after plummeting eighty feet in a mighty splash.
With their enemies vanquished, you may rescue Benton Grone, Marianix Karn, and any other surviving members of the Athenaeum expedition. While Rachikan seems quiet, Grone warns you that thousands of morlocks still creep amid the forgotten city’s shadowy ruins. Unless you want to stay and face an onslaught of angry morlocks (and possibly more stone golems), they had best retreat.
Grone leads you to a secret staircase by which he enters and exits Rachikan’s ruins. This staircase steadily rises until it pierces the side of Anferita’s central pillar. Here, a boat that Grone uses to reach civilization is moored to a crude dock for supplies and respite. Grone happily ferries you up the Maiestas River and into Belde.
Shortly after the defeat of the creature, Pathfinder Bane ascends the obelisk and thanks you for saving Marianix Karn. They have a short conversation in private before the pair offers to get the archaeologists to safety.
Mathais |
Well.... That was anti-climatic... when's the BBEG showing up?? :D
