You are all traveling as part of a vast caravan of Pathfinders your allies as part of ongoing mission. The weather is far from the warmth and rain of Abaslom as frost settles around the trail. Leadership has assigned you as part of a team of effective specialists and you have a good deal of time on the trip to know one another.

In this lull give description of your character's appearance and introduce yourselves as you see fit.

A short man, approximately 5'6" and 30 years old, opens the flap of the main pavilion tent and strolls towards the main table, wearing gleaming mithral armor covered in an opened resplendent uniform coat bearing leonine figures, clearly identifying his knightly order. Without the armor and coat, he would be the kind of man no one looks at twice, but those with a warrior's eye can clearly see that his posture speaks of an harmonious blend of strength, balance and stamina.

Outside, one can briefly see a largely built, approximately 6'8" and 25-year-old squire sporting an impressive red beard worthy of a dwarf's, sorting gear, putting away weapons and tending to a magnificent white horse with a silver-grey mane in chain barding adorned in the same colors and lion motifs as those worn by the cavalier. Several men who appear to be traveling merchants, their clothes still dusty from the road, quickly surround the large squire to clap him on the shoulders and invite him for drinks at nearby establishments... it appears the short cavalier and his large squire travel with an entourage or at least seems to be recognized as regulars by all these men.

After a few moments the short knight spots the table of Pathfinders. He approaches and nods to everyone. As he sits Eagle Knight ranks can be recognized, sewn into his Order of the Lion coat sleeves.

Adsal Featherhair is a young man, about 5`8`` with maybe 140 pounds. His heritage is obvious, as he has white swanfeathers for hairs, and white orbs for eyes. He dresses usually in white robes of highest craftmanship, embroyeded at the hems with tiny prayers to his goddess Shaelyn, held together with belt of woven strands of golden hair with a beltbuckle showing a stone golem . If on a mission he adds a silken armor in the same colour, with the symbol of the pathfinders cleverly embroided on his left breast and the grand lodge on the other and a buckler of mithral, embossened with the paradise bird of Shaelyn, together with a glaive with a pearly white haft. On his left hip there is a haversack holding his many books and writing utensils. Rarely are his long fineboned hands without the one or the other inkstain, although he wears soft deerskin gloves for protection while adventuring.
His voice is a light tenor and he usually speaks quite agited, no matter to whom he talks.
He is accompanied by Darter, his trusted Familiar and best friend.
If he has vanity, it is his talent for languages.

You see a dour human, standing 6' tall with a solid 205 lb frame.

His black hair is well kept and sets off his green eyes.

He nods to the party.

"Name's Jackson, Jackson Magraw. I serve the Society for two reasons. Knowledge, and the chance to test myself against the greatest foes in all of Golarion. If I can't strangle it, I'll smash it." He points to his silver Lucerne Hammer with the first hit of pleasure you have seen him display.

"As for my personal life, I'm a devout follower of None of Your Damn Business. I speak Polyglot and Undercommon. Anything else you want to know? Tough."

"Back to business, I'm a decent trap finder, but I am better at getting them out of the way. I will need the aid of some of you to feed scrolls into my Spell Storing Armor Spikes. Lastly, keep in mind I'm not the most defensive guy out there. If I can pin down one opponent, I'm good. If I get mobbed I can go down fast."

"Now. Let's do this thing."

"Fair enough Jackson. I'll make sure we don't get mobbed. I like the brevity of your introduction. We are all just here to get things done that need to be done. No reason in being grand about our past." Your eyes may be drawn to the cameo hanging around his neck, framing the delicate portrait of a beautiful aasimar woman with pale blonde hair.

"My name is Theritis, I was a caravan guard for the Szarni families, now I bide my time with the society and other odd jobs. I am a warrior and not much else, but no one goes down on my watch but my enemies."

Everyone feels an overwhelming presence on the caravan. You turn around to see a short woman (4ft 9in) with olive skin, dressed in rags and a spiked chain wrapped up her arm and across her body. She has a cold look in her eyes as she glances around the room. For the past couple of weeks of the journey, these are the only words you have heard her speak:

Greetings. I am Keela. I have no titles or stories to tell - so please, do not ask of my past. I am here as hired muscle - to make sure the job gets done. If i cause too much damage, please tell me 'no'. I find it hard to control my power - the chains never hold me for long.

For anyone who can make a DC 10 religion check, it is obvious that Keela is a worshiper of Zon Kuthon - from the chains around her body and wrists. However, you also realise that she has been tending away from his teachings. You see evidence of restraint, as the chains seem to be a tool for her to monitor her power - a reminder not to abuse it.

***OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT***

Months ago, agents of the Blakros Museum in Absalom stole a holy dagger—a relic of the Kellid Twinhorn following and the Shining Crusade from centuries ago. What seemed a simple dagger was key to keeping a powerful villain at bay, and the Pathfinder Society has allied with the Twinhorn following and its bold spiritual leader Medda in order to return the relic, use it to perform a ritual before midnight on the winter solstice, and stem an undead invasion. “We are only hours away from the stone circle and our encampment,” Medda announces. “If we are going to make it there by midnight, we need to press on. Once there, we will use Ivvora’s hilt to perform our time-honored ritual and keep evil from our lands.” Medda produces the small hilt of a broken weapon with only a fragment of its black metal blade remaining. “Let us move. There are dangers in these ancient woods: orc raiders, bears that topple trees, and worse. Stay in groups and don’t get lost.”

As the Kellids and Pathfinders reach the top of the hill next to the Twinhorn encampment, they notice splashes of blood and the occasional corpse dotting the landscape. Medda raises her voice, calling, “My brethren, our families are under attack! Secure the camp and drive back any who oppose you. Pathfinder allies, join us in defense of our home!” The landscape opens into a burned hillside where blackened trees stand like lifeless sentinels. A crude blockade shields the entrance to a natural cavern.

Table GMs, area H is now open. Once you have completed area H, you may proceed to areas I or J. The Deepening Shadows condition on page 14 is in effect.

Prank War Map

The blockade struggles against the assault of a number of undead; clawing, tearing, and ripping through the layers of defenses. As you and the other Pathfinders come into view they turn their attention to you with the murderous desire to strip flesh from soul.

The largest among them (white) floats feet off the ground a dry, broken corpse with several spectral hands reaching from the prison like bars of it's decayed ribs.

Beside it (black) is a dry husk, skin drawn taught over the bone and and muscle. It's eyes reveal nothing but darkness as they spew an endless torrent of smoke.

The other three (red, blue, yellow) would almost appear to be Kellid warriors at first glance, but all carry bloodless mortal wounds along with their greatswords.

This undead remnant is some form of fiend or possibly and malicious spellcaster that was lost within the far reaches of the multiverse and returned as a soul devouring abomination while retaining some of it's original magical ability. For every 5 points you exceeded the DC you can request a piece of information about them.

Knowledge (religion) DC 18 to ID the Desiccated Undead:
You identify the slow moving creature as a bodak, the result of a mortal that has been stripped of their soul by unfathomable evil power. Their eyes exude a feeling of death and decay, drawing in the fragments of soul they no longer contain.
For every 5 points you exceeded the DC you can request a piece of information about them.

Knowledge (religion) DC 16 to ID the Undead Kellids:
This unfortunate soul is a variation of a wight known as a rage wight. A savage warrior reborn after being slain by another wight. Keela tugs at her reigns and the chains start to move across her body. She surges forth like a wild beast.

"Where is your tranquility now, Adsal? Eh Quatala - leave some some for me would ya!"- Keela's voice sounds like a growl across the battlefield.

Round 1: mechanically, Keela used her swift action to enter dragon style, then a standard (1 ki - 8/9 left) to cast barkskin [AC: 25; TC: 21]. She will move hasted (60+30) ft across the battlefield and to the south on her turn after Desiccated Undead Black.

As Qatala moves across the field the trees crumble to lifeless ash having been unable to cope with the corrupting influence of the undead.

The trees on the map do not obstruct movement in anyway and do not provide cover.

Without specific requests about what information Adsal would like for the identification, I will return arbitrarily useful information on each.

Adsal: Flying Undead = Devourer
The flying undead is a devourer. They use consume souls they have sealed with their bodies to power their magic. They have a number of spell like abilities including, but not limited to bestow curse, confusion, and true seeing. Each of which consumes some of the contained soul within.
Their claws, like many powerful undead, drain energy of those they connect with, inflicting negative levels as well as normal damage.
It is naturally resistant to magic (SR 22), but some spells, even when they beat the SR will not affect the devourer and instead will deflect toward the trapped soul (if any) instead. These spells include banishment, chaos hammer, confusion, crushing despair, detect thoughts, dispel evil, dominate person, fear, geas/quest, holy word, hypnotism, imprisonment, magic jar, maze, suggestion, trap the soul, or any form of charm or compulsion. These spells will not harm the soul, but the caster will need to make a DC 25 caster level check when the spell is deflected. If successful, the trapped soul is released and returns to the outer planes.

Adsal: Undead Kellid = Ragewights:
Each of the blows from the ragewights, whether from their blade, claw or teeth, will deal energy drain to the target. Inflicting a negative level with every hit.
Anyone slain by a ragewight will rise as powerful wights within 1-4 rounds of their death.

From my understanding of it Chaine, confusion can still affect you, because it is not an effect of the same calibre. Yes, confusion is a mind affecting compulsion effect. But it does not mimic 'mental control' of the target. Nor did it try to 'possess' you.

Also, i think you still need to make that fort save Quatala, with a 50% chance of it just not affecting you.

Keela waits impatiently for the other enemies to move closer. Her chains behind her visibly holding her back from pouncing onto the enemies. "Patience, little one."
A voice speaks in her head but she pays little attention to it.

As Theritis steps up both of the wights make instictual, furious and unexpected strikes. Neither finds any success however breaking through his armor however. Theritis's own counter attack quickly tears through the pair leaving corpses on the ground.

Ragewight Blue vs Theritis: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26

Ragewight Red vs Theritis: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Damage: 2d6 + 6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 + 9 = 24

Theritis's first two attacks are enough to take out the two in his reach. If there is something you can do with additional attacks, let me know.

Round 2
Qatala (haste, barkskin)

Chaine and Jackson's turns

Chaine: While protection from evil offers some protection, it doesn't grant immunity to effects that don't allow the caster direct control. FAQ
Qatala: There is a 50% chance the gaze might affect you. If you wish I can roll it. If that fails you will need to make the fort save against the gaze effect. Given your haste attack against blue wouldn't have happened, I treated that as an attack that hit for the damage you rolled for your secondary attack.

Although the Bodak is unable to stop Jackson from taking hold, it's body proves resistant to the grapplers attacks. The heat has minimal effect on the dry flesh and the flesh refuses to completely give in to either the hammer's blow or the spikes being pressed into the flesh.

The devourer is torn to shreds by Kella's constant barrage of strikes. While it avoids a few, it only leads to an opening for more strikes. It begins to drain more of the trapped soul for a powerful magical counter attack only to be struck down by Chaine. The devourer falls to the ground, the soul stuff dissipating into the air.

While Theristis doesn't offer a bag, his blade rips the Bodak in Jackson's grasp asunder. Some of the lifeless pieces fall to the ground and a measure of safety is felt as the smoke from the monster's eyes slows to a stop.

Ragewight's hypothetical next attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

Calling the fight in favor of you. The remaining wight will not be able to sustain the upcoming onslaught. While Chaine and Silvermane being confused is also an ongoing threat, I will assume that it is one that is safely dealt with the conclusion of the fight. Without aid though, it takes a couple minutes for confusion to wear off naturally which will cut into any active spell durations.

A number of beleaguered Kellid men and women carefully move out of the cavern weapons in hand, looking around for any additional undead assailants. None in sight, the one at their head offers his hand to the party. "You have done a great service saving our lives here today. It offends me that I might have the gall to request any more of you, but for the safety of my clan I must. I beg of you, this was only a few of the attackers. Since nightfall they have been pouring from a tear in the shadows from the stone circle. We beg of you to do what you can to push back the undead tide and close the portal. Our main encampment is that way, our leaders are there and will certainly wish your council and aid."

He directs you to both the Twinhorn encampment as well as the general direction of the stone circle and the portal unleashing the hordes of undead.

You have the choice of going to the encampment to meet with the leaders and securing that sight or moving to assault the portal.

Keela watches as Theritis absolutely butchers the Bodak - blood and guts going everywhere. She smirks.
"You can probably stop holding that Jackson. I think the barbarian mistook a bag for a greatsword. It's probably dead."

The dragon monk relaxes, the chains around her body slowly pulling away from tearing into her skin. She stands up like a proper human, covered in the gore of the slain undead. She has a wiked smile across her face.
"Well that's what i call a warm up! Ggrrrrrrrr. Can you smell that! The rotting flesh of the unliving! I say we take the fight straight to them while we are still feeling strong!"

Keela voices that she wishes to go to the portal and deal with that first.

She calmly stolls over to Adsal and presents him with a wand of mage armor. She bows slightly and puts the wand in his hand.
"I know we follow different paths, but we have greater things to worry about. I promise to watch your back as you did mine. I wouldn't mind a tap of this if you had a second. Oh, and by the way, that you cast back there really put a kick in my step, got any more of those left?"

Keela notions that she is pleased with the work everyone has done on this battlefield. Still endulging herself in the gore, she quietly starts sharpening her chains while the rest of the party decide on the next cource of action.

Keela has no way of dealing with the confusion, she would simply stay away from the cavalier untill he is overcome the spell. Her barkskin lasts for 90 minutes. Assuming the mage armor was cast on her - thank you Adsal - that will start ticking down from 60 minutes. I'll keep you updated on timing. This fight to the conclusion is currently taking about 3 minutes. Dealing with the confusion or otherwise mitigating the damage confusion my cause may reduce this. The time it will take to get to the next location will depend on which direction you wish to go.
