Idrix Ashir |

"That's that! Now, what's in here then?"
Idrix, with no ceremony, starts ripping through the rubbish with any nearby length of wood, searching for anything useful.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18

Rory Loudheim |

Rory peers up the chimney cautiously. "If our goblin friend is to be believed, this 'ere should be Klark's trash chute. Anybody feelin' spry enough to creep up and take a look 'round, see if it leads anywhere?"

Idrix Ashir |

"Gamze, you fancy a go? If not, I'll try it!"

Grognard Fuglsang |

Looking at Idrix Grognard says "Last time you tried to sneak you tripped over and blow my cover, so maybe it is best that Gamze goes or me."

Idrix Ashir |

"Heh! I won't deny that! Gamze or yourself then, no problem!"
Idrix says with a grin.

Gelin Brooklane |

Gelin rubs his chin a moment, looking between his compatriots, before he gives Grog a pat on the back, suffusing a bit of magic into his touch. "You've got the climber's build, Grog; give it a shot. You ought to be good at it, I'd say."
Enjoy the extra 1d6 if you need it!

Grognard Fuglsang |

"Well don't forget to catch me if I fall Gelin" replies Grognard with as straight a face as he can manage.
Wedging himself in the chimney Grognard starts to climb with his back pressed against the wall, he tries to walk up the chimney silently as possibleclimbing: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22.

Idrix Ashir |

Idrix waits, for once. He contents himself with fidgeting.

Grognard Fuglsang |

Hitting the rubble Grognard quickly looks around to see if anyone notice his fall. Let's try this again.
Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Idrix Ashir |

Idrix will give Grognard a hand to get moving up the chimney if he wishes it.
Advantage on climb?

Grognard Fuglsang |

In the cramped chimney Grognard continue to climb with as little noise as possible.
climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Rory Loudheim |

While the half-orc creeps up the chimney with Gelin and Idrix's aid, Rory keeps a careful eye on the tunnels on their level. Don't trust that 'Yeemik' to remember his end o' th' bargain. It'd be just like a goblin to come sneaking up on us while we're exposed.

GM Barty |

Grognard quietly reaches the top of the chimney while the others wait below. The chimney opens up into a large cave.
Sacks and crates of looted provisions are piled up in the south end of this vast room. The floor slopes slightly downward into the center of the room from the narrow opening in which Grognard stands. A larger opening leads north down a set of natural stone steps, the roar of falling water echoing from beyond. In the middle of the cavern, the coals of a large fire smolder. A bugbear is sitting next to the fire with its back facing Grognard, roughly petting a mangy wolf laying beside him. On the other side of the fire, facing Grognard, are two goblins.

Grognard Fuglsang |

Seeing the group around the fire Grognard crouches hoping that no one has seen him. Looking through his backpack pulls out the rope. Trying to find somewhere to tie one end to before throwing the other end down the chimney.
stealth: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 5 + (5) = 23 Using the inspiration that Gelin gave him.
If there is nowhere that the rope can be tied too then Grognard will hold the rope.

GM Barty |

Grognard silently drops the rope down the chimney, unseen by the room's occupants. The fire crackles and the bugbear says something to one of the goblins that makes it whimper in fear.
There is a stalgmite you could tie the rope around, but that would require walking into plain view of the fire, so I'm assuming Grognard will be holding the rope for the others.

Idrix Ashir |

When Idrix sees the rope, he grabs onto it and starts climbing.
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Gelin Brooklane |

Hoo boy...here we go...
Upon spotting the rope, Gelin laces his fingers together and does his best to give Idrix a boost up.
I can give him advantage on his climb, right?

GM Barty |

There is no ability check needed for the climb as long as Grognard is holding steady. That nat 1 on stealth, however...
Idrix begins climbing easily enough, but his bulky weight causes the rope to start swaying unexpectedly a short way up the chimney. He is able to balance himself on the wall with his feet, but knocks a chunk of the wall out that crashes loudly on the other side of the chimney and lands directly on Gelin's head below, causing 1d4 ⇒ 2 bludgeoning damage.
At the top of the chimney, a cautious look at the fire from Grognard and Idrix shows that the goblins are now tussling over a scrap of food, and the group is still unseen.

Idrix Ashir |

Idrix mutters "Whoops!" as the chunk falls, then keep climbing.
Once on top, he tugs on the rope to let the others know to come up.

Gelin Brooklane |

Gelin glances up just in time to catch a rock to the forehead. He staggers backwards to the opposite wall, clutching his head. "Aaaaaagghhhh...that is going to leave a mark."
He then grasps the rope and plants his feet on the wall, doing his best to keep his breaths quiet and check his footholds before ascending. I need to get more exercise...never was a climber...
stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Rory Loudheim |

Did we lose Gamze?
As the last of his companions disappears up the rope, Rory gives one last wary look down the tunnels before stowing his hammer and grabbing the rope. "All quiet up there - mus' not be Klark's lair after all," he mutters to himself.

I'm assuming we did. We can definitely recruit a fifth if you'd like, but I think our chances for now are best to press on with the reliable four we have.
The group now stands together at the top of the chimney. At the fire, the wolf's ears have perked back, and it emits a low growl. The bugbear clumsily pats its head in response.

He has been patient. Very patient, by his standards.
But now?

Taken by surprise, all four creatures are immolated in Idrix's gout of flame. When the fire subsides, the wolf and one goblin are already up, having avoided most of the heat. The bugbear's right side is charred, and he roars as he draws his morningstar and searches for the source of the sudden pain. The other goblin lies dead in a smoking heap.

"How did it go again? Out of the cookpot?" Gelin Taps Rory on the arm, dropping a bit of magic before he draws his rapier and takes cover behind the stalagmite.
Thiiiis is going to be ugly...

Idrix Ashir |

@Gelin: Was that inspiration for Rory? I don't see which magic listed.
A ball of flame flares up on Idrix's left palm, as he swings the same arm, flinging the ball at the bugbear.

Grognard hastily pulls up the rope before picking up his spear.

Before he can respond, the blood loss causes him to pass out next to the fire.

Idrix Ashir |

Idrix falls, slamming into the ground, his unseeing eyes staring into the fire.

Gelin Brooklane |

Gelin peeks around the stalagmite, spying the deathblow from Rory, but his smile disappears when he sees Idrix drop to the floor. He exhales sharply, then darts around the stone, diving right for the shank-happy goblin who dropped his comrade to the dirt.

Gelin is a force of nature apparently...a bard by day, master swordsman by night.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Blood slowly pools around Idrix as Grognard enters the fray, thrusting his spear harmlessly to the side of the wolf. The wolf rushes at Gelin, muscled legs tearing at the cavern floor as it leaps at the bard. Gelin plants his feet, timing his strike to meet the wolf's rush. As it leaps off of the floor, jaws closing in on Gelin's throat, the bard thrusts his rapier forward. Its pointed tip drives through the wolf's open jaw and exits the top of its head, before the momentum of the leap sends the wolf's carcass into Gelin, knocking him to the cavern floor beneath the dead animal.
Silence fills the cavern once more, before giving way to the sounds of trickling water from the room's northern entrance.

Rory Loudheim |

Rory turns in a panic as the wolf lunges past his and Grognard's weapons towards the unconscious Idrix -- just in time to see Gelin skewer the animal.
Gawking open-mouthed for a moment, he recovers his wits and quickly stabilizes Idrix (cure wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6) before helping Grognard pull the wolf off Gelin.
"Sure and that was somethin'! Didn't know ye had moves like that in ye -- but ye picked the right time to show 'em off!"

Idrix Ashir |

Idrix staggers to his feet.
"Urgh...sore, that! But we won! Now, where's that dwarf? Not you, Rory, the other one!"

Gelin Brooklane |

Gelin shoves the heavy wolf off himself with a grunt, pulling his blade free amidst his panting as he clutches his chest. "Loudest drum I've ever heard," he manages, trying to slow his breathing as he leans against the stalagmite.
Once he can hear himself over his own heartbeat again, he leans over to wipe his blade on the bugbear's "clothing" or whatever passes for it, sheathing it.
"Well? Think that was..what's his name...Clark? Krark? Goblin didn't say there was more than one, right?" He goes to take a look at the crates and sacks of stuff. "Hope we'll be able to get some of this out before we go..."

Idrix Ashir |

Idrix rubs his hands together.
"Loot!? Oh yes! Who wants to crack the lock?", looking around at the party.

Rory Loudheim |

"Is it even locked?" asks Rory, inspecting the chest for locks, traps, or anything else of interest.

"Mebbe it's just stuck? Let's see if I can pry it open..."
Rory will attempt to open the chest.

"Definitely loot! But wasn't there a dwarf around here someplace?"
