GM Aarvid |
Jory checks the room with Andrazi. Between the two of them, they uncover a few things.
An investigation of the slate and the notes written there can confirm that once “the whispering beast is tamed,” the architects of the plan intended to mount a second raid on the Sandpoint town, one that incorporates not only additional goblin tribes culled from as far as the Fogscar Mountains to the north, but creatures referred to as “sinspawn” who will invade Sandpoint from below.
No exact timetable is given for when this second raid is to happen, but close examination reveals that the final assault is scheduled for only a few weeks in the future.
Andrazi opens the northern door, revealing stairs going up to the first level.
Jory checks the door to the west.
Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
Andraste follows along with the rest of the group.
Jory Redcap |
"The chief had to be put down. This is not how civilized races behave. We need to find this mad lady and do the same to her."
Jory continues searching and opening doors.
GM Aarvid |
Jory opens the western door and finds another room.
A large wooden worktable sits in the middle of
this room, its surface cluttered with scrolls, books,
stone tablets covered with dense, spiky runes,
and fragments of carvings that appear to have
been chipped off of statues or bas-reliefs. To the
north, a floor-to-ceiling set of wooden shelves
sags with picks, shovels, brushes, lanterns, and
other equipment one might expect to see at an
archaeological site.
Kyra of Thistletop |
Kyra uses detect magic to investigate the worktable and then spends some time searching through the scrolls, books, and tablets. She reads what she can and uses her scroll of comprehend languages if she finds any unreadable non-magical script.
GM Aarvid |
On the north shelf with the tools, there are many notes found describing different artifacts that have been uncovered. Several with comments on how much they might bring in Magnimar or other markets.
No magic is found in the room, however.
GM Aarvid |
As Jory turns to leave and go back to the unexplored areas, something catches his eye and he stops.
GM Aarvid |
Jory pushes open the hidden stone door and finds a flight of stairs heading down...
Assuming he heads down the stairs, he finds the area
is lit by lanterns on the floor and the air quality in the stairway is surprisingly good.
A stone door just around the corner from the steps
hangs slightly ajar, the detailed carvings that once
covered its surface defaced by chisel marks and
hammer blows to the extent that only a few remnants
of images (mostly of gemstones and crowns) remain.
The floor here is slanted downward toward the west.
GM Aarvid |
Jory descends to the lower doorway, followed by others.
The stairs are single-file, so will need marching order for Andraste, Aelfward, Kyra. For starters, I will assume Jory, Andrazi, x, y, z, Raoul.
Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
Andraste will take the z position, and actually would prefer not to hav the squishy wizard's backside left open.
Andraste will follow along with the others.
GM Aarvid |
Jory moves up quietly to the door and looks inside while the rest remain on the stairs watching.
Two pillars support the ceiling in here. In many
places the stone walls, floor, and ceiling are caked
with ancient grime and soot. Alcoves in the north
and south walls contain partially damaged statues
of a man in robes clutching a book and a glaive.
The entire room is canted toward the west, and
whatever ancient upheaval caused the complex to
tilt knocked the statues from their bases so that now
they lean against the western walls of their alcoves.
GM Aarvid |
Jory enters the room quietly. The rest of you do not hear or see anything other than the flicker of lanterns from the room.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Need to know where Jory goes, and what you are doing in the room. You do not see any occupants. The door on the far end is closed and there are 4 damaged statues, two on each side of the room.
GM Aarvid |
In the interest of moving things along...
Aelfward: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Andraste: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Andrazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Jory: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Kyra: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Raoul: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
LA: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
img: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Jory is in the room for less than a minute when you see a flash of purple light followed by a shout of a woman's voice.
"Take that dwarf scum! Oh oh."
touch ray: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12 for str dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 fort save
Jory manages to dodge a blast from a spell as he moves about the room.
Out of thin air, in the far corner of the room, three shimmering images of a robed woman appear. She/they appear to be a human woman in her early twenties, with dark skin and long hair braided tightly into
cornrows.
She steps towards the far door, opens it and yells.
"Lady Nualia! Help! We have intruders!"
She then points a wand at Jory, shooting a single bolt of force at the dwarf.
15-Woman
Jory is hit for dmg: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
10++Andraste (outside the room on stairs)

8-Raoul (outside the room on stairs)
7-Aelfward (outside the room on stairs)
6-Andrazi (outside the room on stairs)
Party is up...
Jory Redcap |
Sorry, thanks for moving things along.
Jory does what seems to come best and fires two arrows at the multiple copies of the same person. Knowing he is likely to be hitting a copy, he doesn't shoot so hard.
hit/damage/hit/damage: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 311d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 271d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Let me know if crit hit a real target 27/35hp
"Come, battle is joined."
Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
You keep forgetting that Andraste is at -2 init due to being sickened, so she's actually after Raoul.
Hearing yells in the room ahead, Andraste moves up to the door and opens it Since Jory was being stealthy my assumption is the door was closed behind him.
GM Aarvid |
Ah yep, Andraste, forgot the sickened again (or rather have not updated my copy/paste list for you all. Thanks.
arrow1: 1d3 ⇒ 3 hits on 1
arrow2: 1d2 ⇒ 2 hits on 1
Well, sorry Jory. With the way I have been rolling, figured one of those would hit.
Jory quickly fires off two arrows and pops a pair of images, leaving the young woman with a sudden look of panic.
I did not figure Jory would close the door behind him (he did not say either way). Not sure open or close is more stealthy, but quicker for help to arrive if left open.
Aelfward Bloodyhanded |
Al moves forward 30 feet. "It's time to give up, so you can keep on breathing" he says as he hurls a tanglefoot bag at the magic user ranged touch attack med. range: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 2 = 10
GM Aarvid |
Kyra still has an action. Please check positions on map match your intention.
Raoul moves into the corner and draws his wand.
Andraste moves up and (re)opens the door, still in her sickened state.
Aelfward drops his weapon, moves forward into the room and draws a large sticky bag.
Andrazi walks up to the young woman and taunts her.
GM Aarvid |

"So I am not good enough to join you Pathfinders? Is that right? Well take this you bastitches!"
The young woman steps back through the open door and quickly casts a spell, sending forth a sheet of flame that fills half the room. Aelfward and Andrazi are subjected to the blast of fire.
fire: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 3) = 10 Reflex for half
She then shuts the door.
Party is up
Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
Spellcraft to ID spell: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 9 - 2 = 16
I will wait until after I know if Aelfward and Andrazi save to decide my action.
GM Aarvid |
Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
Andraste will move up beside Kyra and cast remove sickness on herself. For the next fifty minutes I ignore the sickened condition.
GM Aarvid |
Jory delays waiting for a better chance at the woman.
Kyra invokes a blessing on Andraste then moves into the corner next to the closed door.
Raoul waits for the door to open.
Andraste moves forward to be closer to Kyra and casts a spell. Her color returns and she seems more alert.
Aelfward moves up and opens the door. The young woman stands glaring at him from the hallway beyond the now open door.
Jory and Raoul are in delay...
GM Aarvid |
Andrazi - I was not sure if you wanted to try to tumble through her square to get behind her?
GM Aarvid |
Raoul points the wand at the woman and a bolt of force streaks out towards her, causing her to should a curse.
Andrazi tries to tumble past the woman, but stumbles...twice.
The door is already open, Jory. Aelfward opened it and is standing facing the woman. You still can act before she goes.
Jory Redcap |
Jory takes a single step to close the distance and fires two arrows.
Cover may apply

GM Aarvid |
Jory shoots a pair of arrows around Aelfward. One of them pierces the woman's side as she lets out another grunt in pain.
The woman glups at the sign of her blood. She draws a dagger and points a wand at Aelfward, speaking an arcane word and fires another missile of force, similar to Raoul's.
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 dmg to Aelfward
"I will not give up without a fight!"
