Linflass
Linflass just shrugs and follows along. To the group as they go:
I've been here five years and I might as well have shown up yesterday. They're not exactly welcoming to outsiders.
Stirges and no taverns. I could have gone to the River Kingdoms and carved out a place, but no, I wanted to see Old Varisia...
I imagine we'll roleplay the meeting with the mayor, but Linflass will use his Knowledge - Local skill whenever an appropriate opportunity arises while they meet his grand poobahness.

Viorec starts leading you to the mayors property and he over hears some of the conversation going on behind him. He sighs "Would this have anything to do with the funny looking red head that was here about this time last month? If he was the tax collector that you're looking for I'm pretty sure that He got teh payment he was after and left that next morning. I certainly haven't seen him in town since and I'm not one to forget a face. If I remember right he spent most of his time talking with the mayor so I think I'm taking you to the right place."
You seem to remember Jemida saying that Elias had red hair.
Tomas Reynolds
Tomas nods in agreement with Norn. "Yes, the man we are looking for has red hair. Did he talk to anyone else besides the mayor? Where would one go in this town for a drink since there is no tavern?" asks Tomas as he dismounts his horse deciding to walk the rest of the way to the mayor's house.
DM Mathpro
"Hmm I'm not sure...he seemed to want little to do with the townsfolk here. I know he was invited to the festival and he didn't bother showing up, which is just down right rude if you ask me. As far as drink goes, other than what is brewed locally for the festival we don't really have much in the way of drink. We tend to brew our own at home for personal use but good luck getting anyone to share with you if that's what you're after."
DM Mathpro
Finally got off my bum and got a map made last night. I apologize that it was made in ms paint so its not great but it will do. MAP OF TOWN
As you continue walking(I assume most of you are off your horses now) you see a very large building come into view. Based on what you've seen so far its the biggest house in Ravenmoor by far. As you approach the front walk way Viorec stops and turns to you. "Well here we are, make sure to stay out of trouble" he says before turning around and heading home. You make your way up the front walk way and as you approach a rather surly looking young man throws down a rake and starts to approach you.
"Can I help you" he asks. The look on his face is as unfriendly as you've come to expect here.
Linflass
I hit submit post and it simply disappeared. If two of these show up, ignore one.
Linflass takes a 10 +10 on Knowledge - Local for identity of the gardnerish guy.
Viorec walks away, Linflass watching with a puzzled expression. Why would he bring us here and just leave? Unless he didn't want us wandering around and being nosy...
Tomas Reynolds
"Only if you are the mayor or can take us to him otherwise go back to your gardening." Tomas says as he glances around for anyone else who might be the mayor. Well, that is two people I have met in this town that seem hostile to strangers. This is the reason I never leave the woods. Animals are so much easier to deal with than people. He reaches up pats his horse on the neck and whispers in its ear, "You don't like the little man either do ya Windrunner."
DM Mathpro
Linflass you recognize the man as Leonard Kriegler, the mayor's brother. There seems to be something a little off about him now though but you can't quite put your finger on it.
The man glares at the group. "Here to see my brother hm? Well I suggest that you turn around and return to what ever backwater settlement you came from. My brother is busy and has no time for the likes of you." He then tries to stair down anyone that doesn't immediately move.
Intimidate check:1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
Okay so not very intimidating but you can't blame the guy for trying.
Tomas Reynolds
"Listen here little man. We are in Ravenmoor on official business for Magnimar to see the mayor and I'm not in the mood to deal with the likes of you. So either tell us where he is or get out of our way." Tomas growls at the man as he steps closer to him and glares down at him.
Intimidate check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
DM Mathpro
"hmm lynching...thats a fine idea" The man says as he steps forward. Just as he starts to reach out to grab ahold of Tomnus another man comes up behind him and claps him on the back. "No need for that now Lenny, I'm sure these people mean no harm. Now why don't you get back to work and let me see what these people want he says looking rather sternly at the man. You see anger flash across the mans face but then he takes a deep breath and stops off, muttering to himself.
"Sorry...my brother gets a little...I'm not even sure what the word is. I'm Andretti Kriegler, the mayor of Ravenmoor. I assume that you're here to see me since Leonard never gets any visitors. What can I do for you?"
Linflass
"Hello, Leonard. Even cheerier than normal today, eh?"
"And though I don't know why, this IS my backwater settlement. They're asking some pointed questions in Magnimar about something unpleasent that may have happened here."
He gives a wicked grin. "And who do you think they're going to come to first when they send the authorities in? Wait, I think I know the answer to this one. Your brother, the good mayor!"
Lets the grin fade away.
Now, I guess we could go ALL THE WAY back to Magnimar and say that the mayor refused to see us and let them handle it. I'm sure having some soldiers in town would be good for the local economy.
"And when your brother desperately tries to save his hide and, truthfully, tells them that he didn't know anything about any of this....Well, I guess I could let it be known that you turned us away.
He smiles nicely now. "Because I can assure you that I'll be coming back with them. Do you think the mayor will be happy with all of that? Especially when it could have been avoided entirely."
Smile fades away and he takes on a neutral expression.
"If..you..had..just..stepped..out..of..the..way, and let us see him."
His tone of voice went flat during that last sentence. Now, he stares quietly at Leonard, arms folded and in no way menacing or threatening the man.
Tomas Reynolds
Tomas looks to Eve and smiles with a nod, "So young but so wise. I defer to your wisdom lass and I shall try to limit my interaction with the yokels or at least keep my temper in check." Tomas look to the mayor and says, "I apologize for letting my irritation get the best of me."
Norn Jural
"Sorry...my brother gets a little...I'm not even sure what the word is. I'm Andretti Kriegler, the mayor of Ravenmoor. I assume that you're here to see me since Leonard never gets any visitors. What can I do for you?"
"Were looking for a tax collector that passed through here to collect back payments recently he seems to have disapeared."
DM Mathpro
The man nods at Tomas.
"Don't worry about it...he's been trying everyones nerves lately...don't know why either."
The mayors face then turns stone serious at Norns words and he looks at Norn, his eyes narrowing. "Honestly, I’m not surprised to learn that he's disappeared. I’ve heard rumors that he lit out for Riddleport, in which case I fear the taxes are as good as gone. But the fact apparently remains that we still owe a payment. You strike me as much more trustworthy agents, frankly, but I’m afraid we don’t have the full payment
available to pay the taxes again. I had to empty the towns reserve coffers to make the first payment. I’ll extend to you the same offer I extended to Elias. Enjoy the festival and tonight’s feast, stay in my home, and I’ll see what I can scrape together from what remains of the town’s funds to pay at least part of what we owe and I believe I still have a copy of the receipt that Elias wrote me. Perhaps at a later date Magnimar might send you north to Riddleport to find out what became of that scoundrel."
Can I have you all make me sense motive checks as something seems off in his tale.
Norn Jural
"Good we're already getting off on a better foot than that other tax collector. He couldn't be bothered to participate in...how did he put it..."backwoods hootenannies". I was about to head down to the fair grounds and help with the last minute preperations. Why don't you come and give me a hand?"
"Okay" Norn agrees as she falls into step with the Mayor "Did the tax collector say anything else while he was here?"
Tomas Reynolds
Tomas nods to the mayor and says,"Well, be there shortly mayor we but we need to take care of our horse and I prefer to do that personally. Is there somewhere we can stable our horses for the night?"
Tomas glances to the others hoping they picked up his hint and then quickly looks around for a barn to stable the horses.
DM Mathpro
You guys head out towards the fair grounds(marked on the map). The mayor looks at Norn and shakes his head "No not much else..." his words trail off a little at the end. At Tomas's question the mayor stiffens up a little and stops walking. "Uh...I think there is a few hitching posts by the Trading post and smithy shop. Though I really don't think the townspeople want you poking around. Not that we have anything to hide of course."
Linflass there is no one following you.
Tomas Reynolds
Tomas shrugs and follows the rest of the group. Hopefully, I can get a chance to let them know that something is up with the mayor and I have no intentions of eating or drinking anything during this feast. Tomas pats Windrunner on the next and says in a soothing voice, "Come on boy. It seems that no one heard us so I guess we'll follow them."
DM Mathpro
You guys head for the fairgrounds, making idol chit chat with the mayor as you go. You arrive to see several of the locals trying to get everything set up for the festivities tonight and the mayor quickly excuses himself to go help the others. You can either stay here and help out or go out and investigate more. You can also ask a few of the locals around here if they know anything.
DM Mathpro
lol got to love the board dice roller sometimes
You're only able to spot one person you know but he is busy setting up a rather large pavilion tent, struggling to put the final post in the ground. If you approach and ask about Elias he stops for a second to think and then responds "Nope, don't know anything about no missing men"
Tomas Reynolds
After the mayor leaves Tomas motions for the group to get closer and whispers, "I think there is something fishy going on here. Something about what the mayor was saying doesn't ring true to me. I'll not be eating or drinking anything tonight at this festival unless it is check for poison with magic."
