Hound joins Ford setting up a camp, offering to take 2nd watch since he hasn't spent any of his magical talent today.
Perception during watch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Zova Lex
Zova will join in and take third watch if necessary (though I's really like that one spell back)
Hokina
Alleran:
As you have the Lumberjack background trait and are alone the DC is lower.
The foreman looks at you hard before giving in. "Okay. Shack down the way. 3rd bunk on the right. Eddy has not come out of the wood for over a week. So he won't be complaining."
The foreman looks at you hard. "The man here don't need you getting in their way or stealing their beds, but I feel that I am a nice guy." A big grin comes to his face. "You can sleep out by the saw dust pail. You won't be in anyone's way there."
While making camp the party feels a blast of wind from the north. The wind was abnormally cold for the time of year.
The night passes without incident.
Ford Benett
Ford sets about making camp, inviting Hound and Zova to join him around the fire. He gladly takes first watch and keeps an eye out through the night until Hound takes over, but even then, he sleeps lightly. He wanted to be up, ready and packing for the travels as soon as possible.
As the cold air blows over him, his hairs stand on end, causing him to straighten up and look in the wind's direction. Although fine with the cold, it was the lack of it at any other time that had him worried. On his watch, he kept careful eyes in the wind's direction and meditated a little, hoping perhaps Torag might be able to shed some light on its potential source. A well-lit forge doesn't just grow cold... please, Torag, tell me nothing worse intends to beset these poor people. And if there is... grant me the strength to best it.
I don't know if I could discern anything, but I'm gonna make Knowlege checks for Arcana and Religion. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that unnaturally cold winds mean trouble's on the horizon. Perhaps meditating will grant me some insight...? Or at least flavor?
Kn. Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Kn. Religion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Edit: Actually, could I take 20 on both those since I wouldn't be under any pressure and have time on my watch? If so, that's 27 for both!
Hokina
Unless you have an ability that allows for taking 20 on knowledge checks, you can't.
Quote: "Taking 20 means you are trying until you get it right, and it assumes that you fail many times before succeeding."
As you can't retry Knowledge checks (without some abilities that allow that) you can't take 20.
Ford knows many things could cause a wind like that. Dragons, witches, Fay, odd weather from the mountains, or any of many other beast he has never met. Ford is unable to pinpoint what or why it was made.
Ford Benett
Ford agrees to take the first watch and the 3rd, allowing Zova to regain her divine energies. Ford could handle a little lack of sleep.
On sunrise, Ford spends a bit of time prepping his powers for the day, before waking up the others and having them clean up camp, before going to find Alleran and collect him.
the_Hound
Hound upon waking in the morning prepares a meal of trail rations. Before see if the party is ready and hopes that Alleran joins them soon.
Zova Lex
Zova wakes up after her 8 hours rest and stretches out, putting on her armor as soon as she can. After all, a Hellknight without her armor is naked to the dangers of the world. She examines her new allies carefully, shaking her head with a smile. Look at me now. Once I was patrolling the streets of great Cheliax, and now I am running around with a band of people who probably care nothing for achieving order in the world. Still... perhaps I can convert them to become Hellknights proper like myself. Then we could change this town for the better.
the_Hound
"Good Morning Lady Zova, I see your enjoying this fine morning." Hound waves his arms out indicating the area around them. "After that cold wind last night I feared the worst in regards to the weather. Now I hope you don't mind I put together a simple meal from the rations available." He points to a pot of porridge or gruel your not sure which, but it does smell better then it looks.
"I'm sure we can coax Ford out of his slumber" He looks at Fords sleeping form.
Zova Lex
Actually, he has gone off in search of Alleran

Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 4
The former lumberjack saunters back into camp and approaches the foreman's shack. Entering, he grins to his old boss. "Trookshavits. Some kind of wonders, those "horns", eh? They've decided that a night's hiking through the woods better suits them than a good night's rest. You have a spare bunk for an old employee and soldier?"
At the man's response Alleran's smile stays plastered on his face even as his eyes grow cold. "Thank you, Foreman Trookshavits. The Diamond Regiment never forgets such hospitality."
He stalks off to the far end of the camp, finding an out of way spot in a hollow at the base of one of the larger stumps near camp and sets out his bedroll. Removing the rest of his gear, he leaves the eagle to either stay on the stump or find a roost for the night. Setting the gear at his head, he takes off his great coat, lays down and covers himself in the blue garment. His soft snores soon confirm that he is asleep.
In the dark of the predawn morning, Alleran wakes and begins preparing a cold breakfast. Once finished with the trail ration, he stows his belongings and kits up. Heading out into the trees just as first light breaks the eastern mountains, he begins looking for signs of the others passage.
Track: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Ford Benett
After a short visit around the camp, Ford couldn't locate their compatriot, and a few passing workers tell him they noticed him leave much earlier. Eyes widening, Ford quickly returned to camp, panting as he reached Zova and Hound.
"We... we need to move. I think... Alleran left ahead of us into the forest. I have no clue why... but I'm guessing he went ahead to try and gather the ingredients himself." Ford had no clue if that was true, but the ranger didn't seem to fond of having to guide them through the woods. Perhaps he felt that it would be faster to simply get them himself.
In any case, that wind last night was an omen. Bad things were ahead, and it would take as many capable hands as possible to get things under control. Ford quickly packed up his things to begin moving out.
the_Hound
"I agree about he wind, so let us be off." Hound seems to be in a good mood this morning perhaps due to meeting a fine group to work with.

Returning to where he last saw them, Alleran discovers that they in fact did not take a night hike through the forest as they had led him to believe, but instead camped very near where he left them. Strangely there were now only two of them where last night he clearly remembered there being three. They had started out as four then became three, now were two but he made three, still they needed one to become four once more as they headed into the woods... into the woods...
Damn Hollywood for taking such a great musical and turning it into such a crap movie.
Zova Lex
Zova frowns now that there are only three again. "Well, we certainly do seem to have a knack for splitting this party of ours... let us try not to make a habit of it in the future." She picks up her gear and gestures to the path. "Let us go and try to catch up with Ford. He seemed like he was in a bit of a hurry."
the_Hound
"Shall we visit the witch first? It would give us the best chance to know what she may want so that while were looking for the rest we're also looking for what she wants as well."
Ford Benett
Ford paused as he suddenly realized nobody was following after him. Looking back, he jogged back to the others, when Alleran approached them. Ford exhaled in relief. "Thank Torag. I thought you'd gone off by yourself."
Ford pulled out the map of the forest, looking it over before pointing a finger at the location of the witch's hut and drawing a line to it (and seeing if anything else might be a closer march). "A valid point. That does seem like the most sound course of action... unless you think either the old tree or the ruins might be closer? he asked, looking at Alleran for advice.
Alleran Odeber
|
Alleran points to the hut's location on the map. "That's the closest point. We'll have to cross the river if we're going to make a straight hike for it. Hope no one minds getting their feet wet."
So saying, he leads the party into the woods.
Geography: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Hokina
Alleran leads the party through forest paths to the mouth of the Darkmoon river. Rainbows are scattered about as water smashes over rocks.
DC: 15 Swim to cross the river.
Alleran: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Ford: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Hound: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Zova: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Harpagornis moorei: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Zova Lex
Zova looks at the river and then back at the party. "I'm not so sure how I'm going to get across with this heavy armor of mine." She looks down at her scale mail with a small smile. "I suggest finding another way around as I uh... I don't like taking off my armor. As a Hellknight..."
Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Zova seems almost... afraid of the prospect of jumping into the water.
Ford Benett
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Ford smiled, treading up to the water's edge and testing it a bit. "Not to worry. I shall test the waters first to ensure safe passage." Ford closed his eyes as he grasped the tiny hammer pendant hanging around his neck, calling on Torag's aid to forge the water ahead, before inhaling and plunging into the river.
Casting Guidance to get a +1 to the Swim check (frankly, I forgot I had that, and really should be using it for every skill check, since it's an orison... bleh). It should cancel out the ACP for swimming combined with my strength.
Swim vs. river: 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 1 - 4 = 18
That's how this campaign is going to go, isn't it? Poor rolls followed by stupid luck successes...
Zova Lex
Zova noticeably whitens as Ford jumps headlong into the water to cross to the other side. Peaking over at the rest of the party, she takes a deep breath and steps up to the water's edge, whispering to herself. "There is nothing to fear, fear is the mindkiller, the antithesis to what makes a true Hellknight...
Continuing her muttering she closes her eyes and steps forward...
Swim: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 2 = 7
...and is quickly swept up by the current.
Her eyes open wide as she slips and her head goes under the water for the first time. Quickly losing her cool she lets out a shrill yelp as her mind flashes back to the Chelaxian prison... The second her mouth reaches the surface, she coughs out the water and yells "Somebody get me out of here!"
the_Hound
Dropping his weapon and backpack, but not before grabbing his rope. Hound prepares to dive into the water after Lady Zova, Tossing one end of the rope to Alleran.
"Grab hold AL!" Hounds voice is strong with no sign of hesitation or stutter. May the battle spirits guide me in this endeavor. His voice low in a prayer.
Swim: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
As Hound surfaces from his dive, he realizes the current is too strong for his meager skills. "Hey... Al.... You still ... holding onto that rope!? Hounds words are barely audible as his head plunges up and down on the water.
Thats what i get for trying to be the hero with no swim skill

I was awaiting a response from our GM to my question above before posting, but since the rest of you decided to just jump in anyway...
Alleran shrugs as the hellknight's flustered prattle as he sets down his backpack and begins gathering up rope. As he opens his mouth to explain how they should carefully cross the rapidly moving river, he hears a splash. Looking up he sees the cleric already in the water swimming for the far shore as the hellknight follows Ford's lead. She immediately disappears into the whitewater, resurfacing downriver spluttering and splashing as she screams for help.
Wow, really? Is all he has time to think before their fourth companion dives in after her, promptly turning a dangerous situation deadly.
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Grabbing at the rope Hound haphazardly tossed on his way into the water, the ranger's hands tangle in the rope in his own hands. Missing it, he watches as it is snatched into the river after the werewolf hunter. His own rope in hand, he runs after them on the river bank, yelling out, "Swim, Dammit!"
Zova Lex
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
In her panic, Zova quickly grabs hold of the closest rock and grips it for dear life. "Abadar take whoever left this river without a bridge..." She then looks in surprise as Hound is in the river with her and attempts to reach out and grab him to keep him from slipping further away.

Alleran seeing Zova grab hold of a rock, runs to her and attempts to grab her as she leans out for Hound.
Let me know if there is a roll needed here or feel free to make the roll to keep things moving.
Ford Benett
Oh, snap, I might actually have a use for this Animate Rope spell! And here I thought it was gonna be spontaneous casting fodder!
Ford looked back as both Zova and Hound seemed to be caught up in the swirling river! Wading back in as close as he could, Ford looked up to see Alleran diving in to aid them... with a rope in hand! "Ah! Alleran! Toss me your rope, and get as close to them as you can! I'll pull you out!"
Ford held the tiny hammer on his neck tightly as he held out his hand for the rope, praying Torag would give them a break.
Don't know if this is necessary, but I'll make a Reflex save to try and catch the rope, should Alleran toss me. Also casting Guidance to help grab it.
Catch Rope: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Hokina
Here is a Map.
If hound does not make a reflex save or he fails it, he will float to the north (right side), but Zova could try to grab the other end of hound's rope.
Alleran runs pass a small fox in the jaws of a crude iron trap. It whimpers as he passes.
Zova is to far out to grab. Alleran could try to throw a side of his rope or on the map he could stand on the rocks at the lower side of the map and ready to grab her if she lets go.
the_Hound
Sorry long day at work
Hound makes a grab for Lady Zora's hand.....
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
With a slight brush of fingers Hound continues down the river, "Oh Crap!" is barely heard as Hound slams into a rock.
If allowed Hound after hitting that rock tries to make it to a shore....
Swim: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
With a bit of luck, Hound seems to make it back to shore heaving for breath, still with his rope in hand.
All this if allowed other wise I'm following the river......

Alleran begins quickly tying a lasso in one end of the rope before swinging it around overhead to try and catch the hellknight.
Ranged touch attack?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
I don't know how our GM wants to handle the attempt, but it will probably not be until "next round" as I am busy tying the rope at first.
Ford Benett
Ford watches as Hound gets safely to shore. Good. Now for Zova.
Seeing Alleran start to tie a knot in the rope, Ford waved to him to signal him as he shouted. "Alleran! Just throw her the rope! I'll make sure it gets her!"
If Alleran tosses her just the rope, I'll use Animate Rope to get it to tie a knot around her so she can be pulled in. Otherwise, I can just move over to Hound and get him out of the water.

As I said in the Recruitment topic. While in combat I will post a update each day at this time. If a PC's actions have not been sent in, or I have not been asked to hold off; I will post actions in their place that make sense. If I need to I can retcon them later.
That way at lest 1 round of combat will roll each day.
If all actions are posted well ahead of time, I may roll early. But I will still give at lest 24 hours for anyone to post their next action.
ex.
Normally post at about 2 AM.
Tuesday I post at 2 AM.
All actions are in at noon. So I decide to post next round.
At 2 AM on Wednesday 1 person had not posted yet. So I wait till at most 2 AM Thursday.

Ford moved closer to aid Hound out of the water... when they were suddenly beset by... goblins!? "What the-?! Where did these little blighters come from?" he shouted in surprise, looking over to see that Alleran and Zova were also seemingly accosted by some bird of some sort.
Loosening the strap holding up his morningstar, Ford sprang forward to his closest foe, the ratty mutt, and brought his mace around in a mighty blow, hoping to aid Hound.
On my move, I draw my morningstar, take a 5 foot step to the goblin dog and make a 2H swing on it. I think I get a +2 for flanking with Hound as well? If not, just subtract 2 from my roll below.
Morningstar vs. goblin dog: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 2 = 231d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Melee greataxe attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Do you know how many 3's I have rolled just in this game?
Wildly missing, he curses again before whistling. From out of the sky a blur of brown feathers streaks down at the offending bird.
Charging melee beak attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 Oh, good! I rolled a 4, all's well now.

I'm finally back home
Zova, getting on shore and away from the dreaded current has barely a second of breath before she is suddenly beset upon by foes. Her mind instantly narrows into a battle trance as she grabs her longbow and draws an arrow, firing at the goblin, moving back if she can, but preferring to remain within 30 feet of her target.
