Thann awoke under a tangled mass of roots and filth and briars, able to see only by the dimmest of sunlight persevering through so many obstacles to reach what might have been called his grave. He would later learn that more than a century had come and gone. And although he remembered nothing of his past, he knew instantly where he was: in the ravaged borderlands on the edge of the Tanglebriar, within sight of the towering Witchbole. Thick scars punctuated his body through ragged, rotted clothing, but he felt no pain. Unsteadily, he clawed out space to stand and considered his bewildering position. Escape soon became his sole thought, and he scratched ever more frantically at the mire of his haphazard prison.
That is, until a voice called to him. His ears did not hear it, but his mind did. Breathe, the voice urged him, and think. Thann thought about that for a moment and decided it was nonsense. He tore at the roots and grime until his hands were awash in blood.
Breathe. The voice again.
Thann sat down, knowing he was getting nowhere. He became aware of the thirst on his tongue, the tight knot of hunger that was his stomach. He chewed a random root and promptly spit it back out. Then he saw a glint in the darkness. He crawled toward it with unwilling limbs. There! He saw a curving handle, and a hilt, covered in grime and buried in the muck. He grabbed on and pulled as hard as he could.
He found himself standing, a long blade dark with a century of accumulated muck arced before him. It felt right in his hands. Breathe, and think. The voice was louder this time.
Thann looked up towards the weak but precious sun, and cut his way free.
School is out next week. I'll be around (no exaggeration, the stack of papers I have to correct is more than 2,000 pages long.) I might not be quite as fast as normal, but I'll be here. As always, if I'm the player and I'm taking too long, either message me somehow or bot me.
Hey guys, just giving you a heads up now, but I'm going to be completely MIA from Thursday night to Sunday morning. Normally I find time to squeeze in a post or two, but I'm spending the weekend as one member of a 12 person relay team running about 200 miles from Boston to Provincetown. We do it because we're crazy, but Jill's mother past away from cancer, so we run to support the ACA.
I'll be back to posting ASAP, but I figured I'd give you the heads up now.
Depending on how quickly we post, it could be moot. This thing could be over by then.
