Round 1 Results

Rylan and Regnar act simultaneously. Regnar bursts past Ser Calder's large form, still standing in front of the doorway, easily cleaving through the creature's meager defensive stance. The heavy chain armor absorbs much of the blow however. Rylan's arcane bolt also splashes against the creature's armor in a burst of small stars.

Regnar I need a second attack roll for the Disarm attempt. Has to beat the 'creature's'.
Creature's attempt to remain armed. 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) + 5 = 15

The creature lifts its axe and attacks Regnar.
3d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 6, 1) + 5 = 15 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5 damage. Or
It attacks with a heavy fist (if disarmed)
3d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 1, 5) + 3 = 15 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9.

Ser Calder attacks the creature from the other side of Regnar, his long sword piercing past the creature's attempt to defend itself.

DM Only:
21 damage to Orc.

The large creature is injured significantly, releasing a low growl in a dark, foreign language.

"Where's the boy?!" Ser Calder bellows, striking the goblyn with the flat of his sword. Pulling a killing blow to just put him out.

Was it knocked prone?

Disarm 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) + 6 = 18

Melee: Ancient Dwarven Axe 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3) + 6 = 12 |Damage2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7 { +2 Stunt Points, +1 Dual, +1 Aim

Liberty's Edge

Oops, sorry. I missed that. Umm.... yes, it was knocked prone. But it only spends a minor action to stand up again. The battle axe was knocked out of his grasp, so he still ended up punching Legnar.

Legnar's attack (in Round 2) strikes the creature firmly in the chest, but fails to penetrate the heavy chain mail. The creature chuckles with a snarl at the dwarf.

Waiting on Rylan.

Round 2

Taken aback by the spout of unfamiliar language uttered by this greenskinned foe, Rylan takes another moment to aim and fire away another arcane bolt at the creature; a slightly worried expression appears on the mage's face as the realization sinks in that this particular creature seems to be a bit more durable compared to the other greenskinned creatures.

Uses another aim action and an arcane bolt for 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 6, 4) + 5 = 16 to hit and 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 for damage

Liberty's Edge

The explosion of magical motes of light accompanying a loud gurgling noise prove that Rylan's magical lance proved more ffective than Legdar's weapon. The beast groans as it slides to the ground.

"Is it dead?" Legnar checks to see if the creature is still alive.

If combat is over, Taking a breather brings Legnar back to full.

Ser Calder lightly kicks the fallen goblyn.
"Looks pretty dead t'me. Wouldn't want to get on your bad side, Rylan!"

He looks around the room for any sign Nicholas could have been brought through here.
Perception: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) + 1 = 7

Liberty's Edge

The room is bare. Only the door across from you remains.

Flashing at grin at Ser Calder, Rylan offhandedly replies, "I'd like to think of myself as being more even-minded temprementally.". Then with a glance over at his wand, Rylan then remarks, "While it could've merely been a lucky hit, I'm sure the skill that went into the crafting of this implement contributed much to that.".

Looking back and forth between Legnar and Ser Calder, Rylan then asks. "Now that things have quieted down, is there any healing that either of you would have need of?"

Calder shakes his head.
"Nay. Not so much as a nick. You want to salvage that sod's chainmail, Legnar? Maybe not the cleanest, but who knows when it'll come in handy."

"Let's head through that door- they post a big guard, there's bound to be somethin' important over there."
With that, Calder shoulders open only other door in the room.

Is the Chainmail in useable condition for Legnar? We yoink the Axe and any other gear on the thing may have had before continuing.

Rylan will assist Legnar in "recycling" anything from the tough greenskin

"At any rate, I'd imagine that Lord Nicholas might end up in need of some healing when we do find him", Rylan says, wincing inwardly at the remembrance of the blood all over the torture device in the other chamber.

Rylan will also examine the dead greenskin as well; is there any visual differentiation between this creature and previous four that is noticable? 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2, 5) + 2 = 15 cunning roll if needed

Liberty's Edge

This creature is significantly larger. Its a little taller than a human adult male. The other creatures came up to chest height at best. This creature is also broader in shoulder and more muscular.

stardust wrote:

Rylan says aloud, "Curious, I do wonder if those four creatures we had fought were some immature version of this one- maybe even younglings of this creature- or perhaps this one happens to be a larger more fiercer version of those other four greenskins, more akin to canine packleaders..." although he's not addressing anyone in particular while he's visually examining the corpse of the larger creature.

The mage then soberly announces, "While I had hoped to conserve some of my magical powers for healing when we've found the Arl's son, if there are more of these larger greenskinned creatures about, I fear I may have to activate some personal protection as a precaution..."

With that, Rylan casts Rock Armor on himself 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2, 3) + 4 = 14 magic, spending 3 mana for a total of 6 currently leftover

Liberty's Edge

Sorry about the delay. Weekends are the worse, due to work. Anyway, the creature was wearing heavy chain mail, so if you take the item, please add it to your inventory.

Is everyone out for the holiday? (4th of July) If so, we can continue tomorrow. Or are you all european/canadian types who don't celebrate it? =)

Liberty's Edge

Legnar Nevvin wrote:

You can wear it, since you have Novice Armor Training.

Ser Calder stares as Rylan conjures himself a suit of stone armor.
"Maker... that's incredible!", he says.
He squares his shoulders and grips his shield.
"Uh, right. Let's see what that big'un was guarding, eh? Ready Legnar?"

When Legnar answers to the affirmative, Ser Calder kicks the door open, ready for trouble.

Liberty's Edge

As the door swings open and thuds against the wall behind it, TWO large creatures like the one you just fought stand up from benches around a table with... rather disgusting remnants of meat. (nothing that looks humanoid, luckily). They pick up their battle axes, sneering at you with no small amount of disgust and mockery.

Roll for Initiative

Larger goblyns 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 2) + 1 = 10
Ser Calder 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 3, 3) + 2 = 13
Legnar 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4, 6) + 2 = 18
Rylan 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4, 2) + 2 = 13

Begin Round 1

At Ser Calder's exclamation at Rylan's rock armor, the mage flushes a bit with embarrassment and sheepishly mentions, "It was one of the spells that we at the tower had the option of studying; considering it's long use in battles past, specially against the Qunari invasion, I opted to learn this spell as soon as I was able".

Round 1

Rylan moves besides Ser Calder and Legnar to get a better vantage point at firing off his arcane bolts.

Rylan will use a "move" action to position himself to get a good shot at both or either of the larger goblyns and launches an arcane bolt at closest one for 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3, 1) + 4 = 11 magic, 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 if it hits the target; he won't try to get any closer to either of the two if he can help it

Ser Calder charges whichever opponent Legnar attacks (if he has room to charge- if not subtract 1 from my attack).

Charge w/longsword: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 4, 6) + 3 = 162d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 = 10

Legnar charges between the two beasts, swinging his axe and hammer wildly, Cutting both of them!.

Melee: Ancient Dwarven Axe 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6) + 6 = 23 |Damage2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 = 11 { +2 Stunt Points, +1 dual wield, +1 charge

mighty blow: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Stunts: Dual strike, pierce armor, mighty blow (if have to apply the other two stunts to each target separately, then pierce armor on each instead of mighty blow.

Liberty's Edge

Other than dual strike, each stunt only applies to a single target, and you can only use a given stunt once per round. You do have to roll the additional damage for dual strike, but I can do that for you.

Legnar's damage for second strike: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6, 4) + 4 = 17.

Round 1 Results

Legnar charges between the two larger goblyns, his ancient axe cleaving through both of them. The first goblyn's armor fails to protect it it takes 10 damage and the second goblyn manages to absorb most of the weapon's force in its heavy chain armor. it also takes 10 damage.

Ser Calder charges the second goblyn, whose armor again blocks most of the damage. it takes 3 damage, just as Rylan's arcane bolt strikes the first one that Legnar had hit. 2 damage. You also had a stunt point from that attack, Rylan.

Both of the larger goblyns seem rather angry with Legnar, and cleave into him with their battle axes.

3d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 6, 5) + 5 = 17 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 3 = 8 damage.
3d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 1, 4) + 5 = 15 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 1) + 3 = 10 damage.

Begin Round 2 Once Rylan uses his stunt point.

"I'll teach ya to ignore me, you ugly bastards!", Ser Calder roars as he lays into the thug he attacked earlier.
Longsword w/ aim: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2, 6) + 3 = 142d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5) + 2 = 11

For the lone stunt point, Rylan will "skirmish" and move the tough greenskin he hits back 2 yards so that it has to spend a movement to get to Legnar.

Round 2

Rylan aims and fires upon the very same greenskin that he had hit earlier once he gets it within optimal position.

Uses aim action and launches another Arcane lance, magic 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 3, 1) + 5 = 15, if hit 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9.

|| hp 15 | AC 12| T 12 | FF 10 | DR 4/- | CMD 16 | F +5 | R +2 | W +3 | Init +4 | Per +7 | RR 8

OK apparently I have not been subtracting damage from armor. So I should be subtracting 7 damage from each of those hits correct? or do I take the entire 18?

Legnar smiles and continues to attack, focusing on the one to his left.
Melee: Ancient Dwarven Axe 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2) + 6 = 17 |Damage2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8 { +2 Stunt Points, +1 aim, +1 dual

Liberty's Edge

You subtract 7 from each hit, unless there was an armor piercing blow, then you would only subtract 3. :)

Round 2 Results

Legnar again attacks the last larger goblyn he struck, but the creature shifts its body to absorb most of the blow in its armor, 1 damage.

Rylan's arcane bolt pummels into the other goblyn, the blinding flash of arcane sparkles momentarily distracting the creature. Again, the creature's armor protects it. 2 damage

Ser Calder's strike also hits home, but the sudden clanking of armor indicates that again the larger goblyns were prepared to blunt their opponents weapons. 4 damage on left goblyn

The 1st larger goblyn moves forward to attack Rylan, whose dazzling arcane lance had interrupted its attack on the dwarf.

3d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) + 5 = 15 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 = 6 damage. (4 stunt points: Knock Prone, Mighty Blow 1d6 ⇒ 1)

The 2nd larger goblyn attacks Ser Calder, whose mighty swing had knocked the air out of him.

3d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 4, 5) + 5 = 15 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 5) + 3 = 13 damage. It failed to hit as Ser Calder moves easily out of the way. (I know it shows it hitting, but the die roll was different before I went in to edit it for descriptions.)

Begin Round 3

Ser Calder focuses on the goblyn in front of him, attempting to breach its heavy chain while making enough noise to be the focus of their aggression.
"Hold fast, Rylan, we'll get that f***er off ya in a second!"
Longsword w/aim- 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2, 2) + 3 = 122d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 = 12
If that hits, I'll use Pierce Armor.

Legnar turns to attack the one on Rylan.

Melee: Ancient Dwarven Axe 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) + 6 = 14 |Damage2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 3) + 4 = 12 { +2 Stunt Points, + 1 dual, +1 aim

Rylan will take 3 health damage, thanks to his rock armor

Rylan is scarcely able to react to the sudden twinge of pain from the large greenskin's axe digging past his rock armored exterior before the mage finds himself sprawled out unceremoniously upon the stony ground, his very breath momentarily taken from him from the impact of being smacked down. Due to his mage training in keeping his concentration under the most trying of circumstances (one of the more effective methods of teaching a mage how to not be vulnerable to demonic influence), Rylan manages to keep enough wit about him to keep a tight hold onto his wand.

Strangely enough, Rylan finds himself reminiscing in the back of his mind about the time he first learnt the basics of casting his rock armor spell and how his instructor had cautioned that the spell was no panacea against the shock of actually getting attacked in a real battle.

Round 3

Ser Calder's dimly-heard shouting breaks the mage from his brief mental reverie and Rylan does his best to crawl- almost roll away from his goblynkinde attacker to the best of his ability.

Rylan will take his action to try crawling away from his attacker, if any test (such as dex) is needed, the dice roll is 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 5) + 2 = 12
for dex. He'll use his remaining action to try to stand up while he has some space between him and his attacker; otherwise if not, he'll try to crawl/roll away once more- 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 6, 2) + 2 = 15 for dex again

Liberty's Edge

Round 3 Results

Goblyn1 is distracted from attacking Rylan again by Legnar's charge to the rescue. Legnar's attack hits a solid blow, but the creature's armor still protects it. 5 damage

Rylan is able to crawl away and stand up without harassment. That's only a move action, Rylan, you can still make a standard one.

Ser Calder's attack hits Goblyn2, the clash of sword and armor already ringing through the room, though the sword does manage to slice through the creature's armor at the last minute, breaking a weakened chain. The blade pierces the creature's heart, and it slides to the floor dead.

The remaining Goblyn roars at Legnar, attacking with brute force.

3d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) + 5 = 10 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6) + 3 = 12. Legnar manages to parry with his greataxe however. The creature roars again in frustration.

Stunts: Mighty Blow, Peirce armor, and Skirmish.

Longsword: 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4, 6) + 2 = 182d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 3) + 2 = 10

Ser Calder leaps at the last standing goblyn, using the tip of his blade to breach its armor, then bashing it with his shield to knock it off its feet.
Stunts: Pierce Armor- 2 points, Mighty Blow- 2 points, Knock Prone- 2 points.

Mighty Blow: 1d6 ⇒ 1

"Tougher than some lone kid, ain't we?!", he growls.

stardust wrote:

Rylan will use that standard action to aim at the remaining goblyn

Shakily getting to his feet, Rylan carefully brings his wand back into position, waiting for an opportune time to fire off another arcane bolt if needed.

Round 4:

Glancing about to the rear and the front areas behind the battle going on with the remaining creature and his companions, Rylan tries to spot for any other of the large goblyn (or even the smaller ones, for that matter), if they happened to have been drawn to the area due to the sound of fighting. Keeping his wand training on the remaining large goblyn, the mage grimly watches to see if both Ser Calder and Legnar are able to fell it or if it somehow manages to cling onto life.

Rylan will take a look around to see if there's any other goblynkinde that might come into the area due to the sounds of battle in the area. If the remaining large goblyn is still alive after Legnar and Ser Calder perform their attacks, Rylan will fire an arcane bolt into said large goblyn.

3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 5) + 1 = 13 for perception to see if there are any additional creatures attracted by the sounds of battle

3d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1, 6) + 5 = 13 attack (with aim from round 3) at the remaining creature, if hits, will do 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Liberty's Edge

Legnar's attack lays the creature low. It's dead.

End Combat

Take your breathers.

Rylan, after the creature's death whisper, you can hear or see nothing else approaching. Torches in brackets on the wall dance brightly, but the light from the box is brighter still.

The table seems to be a dining table pushed against the wall, with a long bench on the opposite side. On the table are various wood plates, most of which are warped or seriously cracked, filled with meat that looks a little too green for human consumption.

Any other exits from this room?

Liberty's Edge

You can see no other doors in this room.

|| hp 15 | AC 12| T 12 | FF 10 | DR 4/- | CMD 16 | F +5 | R +2 | W +3 | Init +4 | Per +7 | RR 8

Legnar loots the bodies, and throws a chain mail to Ser Calder.

"Not v'ry fash'nable but it works good. Lets go'n see f'n there is another way about." Legnar says.

Ser Calder quickly pulls on the chainmail, putting his leathers aside.
"I'll save the old armor for when we find Nicholas. Let's head back to that intersection where all the little bastards swarmed us."

With the breather, the 3 damage goes away for now

Grateful for the lull after battle, Rylan sits at the bench while repositioning his pack (and making sure nothing was damaged inside during his brief foray ontop the floor).

"Agreed- but before we set off, will either of you be in need of some healing?"

Can also do a nonmagical heal standard action for both Legnar and Ser Calder if needed, the relevant die rolls would be 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4, 1) + 2 = 10 first cunning roll of 3 hps of healing and 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 6) + 2 = 16 second cunning roll of 8 hps of healing.

|| hp 15 | AC 12| T 12 | FF 10 | DR 4/- | CMD 16 | F +5 | R +2 | W +3 | Init +4 | Per +7 | RR 8

Legnar is good after a breather. no need for healing. He looks for another passage back in the previous room.

Liberty's Edge

You see only the two doors that you've already used. A small pile of bones in the corner indicate this room might have been used as a trash pit at one time, but the bones are too ancient to be from anything killed recently.

|| hp 15 | AC 12| T 12 | FF 10 | DR 4/- | CMD 16 | F +5 | R +2 | W +3 | Init +4 | Per +7 | RR 8

Have we missed something?
"Stunt! Whar is Nicholas? Whar is he boy?" Legnar says, trying to get the dog to help track him.

Liberty's Edge

The dog sniffs around, but whimpers when it cannot find anything... He goes back into the room with the meat and barks at the table, wagging his tail.

|| hp 15 | AC 12| T 12 | FF 10 | DR 4/- | CMD 16 | F +5 | R +2 | W +3 | Init +4 | Per +7 | RR 8

Hmm... Legnar searches the table to see what Stunt is sensing. If he doesn't see anything, he tries moving the table and searching the area.

Liberty's Edge

Among the rotted meat, there are one or two good bones that have been recently eaten off of. There is hardly any meat left on the bones to speak of, but the bones are still fresh. It is likely that Stunt would like a yummy bone marrow treat.

"Let's go further in that hallway outside- seems like a central corridor has better odds of finding Nicholas than a side branch way back toward the front."

Will try a cunning roll to see if there's anything that might suggest another route, 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 3, 2) + 2 = 12

Absently dropping one of the bones down to Stunt, Rylan will aim the magical light emanating from the box so it lights against the wall where the table is and then do a "perimeter circuit route" around the walls of the entire room. 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) + 1 = 8 perception

When he is done with this check, Rylan says, "While it might not be out of place for a hidden passage to be present around a locale such a this, we might also try back at that room where the torturer's rack was situated."

Liberty's Edge

The buildup of the walls and the architecture you've encountered so far reveals that it is likely that this was once a large cavern or series of caverns that have been built in and over with bricks to form a type of underground dungeon system. As such, the layout of the rooms would be difficult to consider without a plan of these handcrafted dungeons.

Scanning the walls, Rylan catches a glimmer of something in the brilliant light from the box on the walls to your right (and right of the dining table). Make a perception check, please.
