I think we can use this resource as a basis - link
Mechanics wise, lets say Bullrush is your best bet. You can get some from Elaine's shop or from the Alchemist’s Guild. A single dose costs 2sp and requires a Craft(Herbal) check to make sure the application will effectively induce sleep in the recipient. They will get a pretty easy DC to beat that will be enhanced by your craft roll...I'll do some fiddling around and try to come up with some more definitive before you need it!

ManPig, if you're still lurking around there is an odd PbP trying to gain life here...

The game is not moving along as quickly as I expected. This is my first attempt at DMing a PbP.
Am I doing something wrong - or could I be doing something better?
Do you have any thoughts/comments/suggestions? If you are participating in other PbPs, what works over there?
Thanks!

I think things are going just fine. PBP runs much slower than regular game because of the limited ammount of actions we can put into one post. Then we have to wait for everyone to read up and respond before moving on to the next action. Remember that we started this right before the holidays and the RPG superstar contest has slowed some of it down as well. As players we are still geting to know each other in and out of character so the longer we are at it the smother it will go as we get to know how the others are going to react in different situations. Real life can get in the way of PBP and slow them down some as well so be patient and keep at it. A suggestion to keep things moving is to annouce a particular day that you are going to move on with or with out everyones post. Perhapse evey tuesday and thursday or whatever works best for you as the DM. Then eveyone knows when the next "turn" or "round" will be posted. If a player dosnt get a post in then it is asumed they will perform a generic action that best fits the situation as you the DM sees fit. I did this in a PBP that I ran at another site a year ago and it seemed to work out pretty good. For the record I am haveing a lot of fun and am excitd to see where this adventure leads.
I have added a part to the bottom of Prats character profile showing his reactions to the other PC's. I will update it from time to time and may even include Prats personal reflections on reocurring NPC's to help you understand my roleplaying.

This is an awesome idea! You should spread the word on this...

This is one of my first pbps, so I don't really have any advice. But I, for one, am really enjoying the game, so don't get discouraged.
I think part of the problem may be that we're 0-level, so we're still getting our feet wet, so to speak, with ourselves and with each other. If we were 1st, some of could have come up with connections before playing, and of course you could throw us into a combat much sooner and we'd bond then.
Hindsight's 20/20 of course, but maybe it's something to think of for your next pbp. I think we're starting to bond, and once we have a few more battles under our belts, and a better idea of our individual roles within the party, things will pick up.
But I agree Mithril Dragon, pick a time when you're going to advance the game and do it. That will keep things moving, and hopefully will keep us checking in to roleplay or whatever before we get left behind!
| MythrilDragon RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16 |
1. I updated Prats page to show his new equipment and added an emcumbrance section.
2. If you pick a day or two the auto advance the game you should also let us know what time of day you will most likey do it. I dont mean to say you have to do it at 12 pm each time, just a general idea if it will be in the AM late afternoon or past midnight. This will let us as players know when we need to get our posts done. I some times post in the after noon and some times late at night because of the strange hours I work and that would be helpful for me to know.

Question--
You posted that the shield was a heavy wooden shield with half toughness and a +1 AC bonus. I went to add the sheild to my character sheet since Lam-ang dosn't want it and found that in the PHB a Heavy shiled is AC +2 while a light shield is +1. The heavy one weighs twice as much and has has a 15% arcane spell fail over a 5% with the light. Both have a listed hardness of 5. The light has 7hp while the heavy has 15hp. My question is this a light shiled with half hardness as described on pg 165 of the players handbook or is it a heavy shield and the half is half the armor protection down to +1 from +2?
Thanks

True enough - I imagine a stage shield as being big and flashy so as to be easily identifiable, yet not quite up to weaponsmith standards. It's basically a light shield in benefit but a heavy shield in penalty.

Can I stat it like this
AC bonus +1, AC check penalty -2, Arcane Spell Fail 15%, weight 5 lbs.
Hardness 5 with 7 hp.
That is the light shield bonus, weight and hardenss. I figure it would be lighter than a combat ready hvy wooden shiled because cheeper wood would have been used, hence it is not as tough. The penalties of Armor check and spell fail are the heavy shield. I'll up date Prats profile once I see your final decision.
Thanks

MythrilDragon, I really liked how you put Prat's impression of fellow adventurers on his profile page. I'm going to do that with some of my PbP character first chance I get.
PS Great game!
Thanks, I did it so that other players and the DM know how Prat sees them so that they understand why he act the way he does when interacting with them.

Hmmm, sorry, yeah, that'll do.

Good heavens no! I can't draw a straight line. But I agree, it is beautiful - I love pencil/charcoal art.

I'm just messing with ya - congratulations! We'll cover for you as much as we can.
But this brings up a good point. You know you better than I do. Luenevyn only has a club so that makes sense. To avoid confusion, I would suggest everyone add a line or two on their characters that let me know their default behaviors.
For example:
TACTICS
Before Combat Keeps a throwing axe ready if his hand axe is not already there.
During Combat Gengar will try to stay out of melee as best as possible, prefering to throw axes instead. If there is no other choice the little dwarf will tumble around trying to set up flanking for others.
Morale If there is obvious treasure involved, Gengar is highly motivated to fight. However, he has no desire to die just yet and has no qualms with running away.
OR
Casual keeps hidden dagger in sleeve
Stealthy Keeps a dagger in hand
Adventuring always has club in hand

That's a good idea. I've updated Luenevyn with tactics (such as they are, at 0-level with a club and no class skills), and my relations with the other PCs (a la Prat).

Sorry I have been away.
I have been sick all week. Sudden wham-bam flu out of nowhere.
Good thing I had a flu shot this year. :P
Sorry to hear that - so far I have managed to avoid getting sick. Unfortunately, my working conditions pretty guaruntee I'm doomed if anyone in my group comes down with it. Anyway, welcome back.
We are in round two, I moved you to the end of the initiative round, so go ahead a post!
everyone: I'll try to update the map and add the baddies tonight if I can.

3x Candle 1 cp; —
3x Torch 1 cp; 1 lb.
2x Rope, hempen (50 ft.) 1 gp; 10 lb.
4x Rations, trail (per day) 5 sp; 1 lb.
1x Hammer 5 sp; 2 lb.
50x Nail 1 cp; -
4x Meat, chunk of 3 sp; ½ lb.

Woot! :D
Question: we were 0-level, and now we're 1st. But do we add all our bonuses and things together as if we were multi-classing. Or do our 1st-level bonuses overwrite our 0-level ones?
Add your new class just like when multiclassing. A commoner doesn't give you much. The end result should look like a 1st level PC with double attribute bonuses on saves and +4+Con Bonus hps. To keep XPs simple just assume you're starting with zero.
Just FYI it may be a little while on Summer's update because I am teetering on the edge of sickness and am not up to much right now
Bummer - take care! I was pretty under the weather most of last week...I'm just starting to feel good again.
So that's commoner 1/PC class?
Yes!
I look forward to checking everyone out.

Question about skill points:
As a 1st level rogue, I would normally get 44 skill points (+11 more at 2nd level). But as a commoner multiclassing into rogue, I only have 20 points at 1st + 11 more now for a total of 31 skill points, less than I would normally have at first level!
I don't want to sound like I'm b+$+@ing, but I think that lots of skills are part of the rogue's abilities (or "powers" in 4e-speak).
Any chance I can get normal 1st-level rogue skill points, or am I just screwed since I'm playing the rogue? :/
2nd edit: And are max ranks for skills 4 or 5?
