Ragnar was finishing casting his spell when the creature striked Junichiro
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Junichiro
|
HP: 62/85
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
I assume the creature's attack was the surprise round, and that we are now in normal initiative.
The samurai is taken by surprise and takes a serious wound. If possible, he 5ft-steps in such a way as to provide Ragnar the opportunity to flank. (Or steps up to it if it has reach) As a swift action he challenges the monster, and the draws his blades.
Katana: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 331d8 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
threat!
Wakizashi: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 341d6 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
threat!
to confirm: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 281d8 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19
to confirm: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 331d6 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19 On top of "anatomist" Junichiro also gains a +2 to confirm with his wakizashi b/c of the "weapon expertise" class feature.
Katana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 121d8 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
Wakizashi: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 221d6 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
I hope this is the last surprise buried here for us. Is anyone familiar with such a creature?
Thanks, Ragnar

Junichiro : the damage bonus from the challenge is doubled in a case of a critic. It's not precision nor additional damages.

Ceric touches the amulet hanging around his neck and draws on the magical energies contained within (using arcane bond to cast a flaming sphere, using my rod of lesser metamagic, dazing at the same time) Ceric will summon a sphere made of flames around the creature.

You guys are up.

Moving around the creature Awveyen draws back an arrow and lines up a clean shot. As the creature freezes form the bast of fire Ceric conjured Awveyen lets loose the arrow.

No more tired and able to fight, Ragnar asked Ceric what the creature was and what the fire did to it.
After Ceric's answer he decided to use the time he bought them to improved his fighting capacity.
He call for Gorum to give him more power Divine Favor, then he moved to be able to flank with Junichiro.
Awveyen Thillvahna

Junichiro, Ragnar would like a chance to get a swing in on this creatures.
Ceric - Eric de Vries

Ceric nods at Ragnar, contend to let Ragnar have some fun.
(Just letting the sphere turn in place for now)
Fire damage for the Gug: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6) = 12 Reflex save DC 19 to negate, if any damage is taken also dazed for 2 rounds (so in this case, reset the dazed condition to be 2 rounds again)

Nodding, the samurai 5ft-steps to a place where he can provide Ragnar with an opportunity to flank. (If that is not possible, he 5ft-steps in such a way that he can reach a better position to flank next round.)
That seems wise.

Be mindful of its freakishly long arms, Ragnar, just in case it wakes up
Ceric - Eric de Vries

Ceric makes little tssking noises
"Junichiro.., Awveyen just asked you to let Ragnar get a hit in. You have to learn to share."
says Ceric with a grin on his face.
Junichiro
|
Forgive me, honored colleagues. I will strive to do better next time...
says Junichiro and he shows one of his rare smiles, that soon turns in to a wince.
Ouch. I will need to take care of some injuries before we continue. Some of the blood covering me right now is mine. That was a nasty bite. I hate to think what would have happened if the creature could have used all its claws and even its mouth on me... I owe you one, Ceric.
The samurai cleans and stows his blades and finds a spot to sit down to catch his breath.
Ceric - Eric de Vries
|
Ceric will tap Junichiro with a wand of infernal healing (giving him fast healing 1 for 10 rounds)
"Are you feeling better now?"
(Assuming nothing will jump us in the next 20 rounds Ceric will do it again to give Junichiro a total of 20 hp back)
Ragnar Gurnison

An angry Ragnar turn to Junichiro and said He ! I asked you to let me have a little fun ! but his broad smile negate his angry tone.
Well, now I'm your nurse Ju' he said asking Gorum for his healing powers.

We should keep moving, the Aspis already have a head start on us.
Junichiro
|
Thank you comrades.
The Aspis agents were here before us, and indeed, we should pursue. Can we learn anymore from this one that fell to the cave-in or Gug?
While the healing magic does its work, Junichiro also studies the agent's corpse in detail.

At the center of Round Mountain is a great cavern nearly a half-mile across and 1,0000 feet tall. The governing ratfolk have built a massive, 7-story pagoda here, signifying this as their central seat of power. The Sundered Path enters this central cavern several hundred feet above the base of the pagoda and is only reachable by climbing the stairs that spiral along the cavern’s outer wall. Forty feet directly below the exit of the Sundered Path is a small perch carved into the wall.
The twisting tunnels of the Sundered Path give way to Round Mountain’s great central chasm. From the top of a large stone landing, a massive seven-story pagoda can be seen at the cavern’s center. Torches illuminate a set of worn steps, carved from bedrock and nearly ten feet wide, spiraling down the edge of the chasm toward the pagoda’s entrance hundreds of feet below.

Ragnar used his powers to restore the stamina of his comrades before continuing their journey.
--------------
In front of the lit cavern and seeing the giant pagoda Ragnar said
That's quite an impressive building ! I've never know the ratfolk were such builder ! What now ? Do you think we will be able to confront the aspis here and convince the ratfolk to join the society rather than the aspis ?
Junichiro
|
Junichiro cleans the dust, blood and other dirt of his armor as well as the circumstances allow, this is a diplomatic mission first and foremost, after all.
Let us hope so. With a bit of luck that agent back there was the only one to get this far, but I would not count on it. I would not be surprised if Aspis personnel collapsed the tunnel in order to hinder others to follow them, and that one of them was caught in it, or was intentionally left to die.
If their agents made it this far, a confrontation is likely. Even if we meet the ratfolk peacefully, ambushes and assassination attempts by the consortium should be expected, or they could even challenge us openly, who knows?
And then we should consider negotiations with the ratfolk themselves. Let's review what we know about them, so we are prepared.
He looks around for signs of life and checks for apparent danger. He also takes a moment to admire the tien architecture of the Pagoda

Before Junichiro engage himself on the way he stopped him.
Junichiro, you seem the best men for the negociations. Please, use my wayfinder to help you in the next discussion with the ratfolk.
And yes, you're right. We must expect lies, trichery and deceit from the Aspis' men.
my inherited bone wayfinder have enhanced diplomacy as a second power with it
Then he followed Junichiro

Did the Aspis agent we found in the rubble have anything on them? documents or maps? Any info on the rest of the group there were with or tactics they might use?

no documents on the dead aspis agent though you suspect that of Lialda Longsarrow, a former pathfinder who became Shadow Lodge before finding a home in the Aspis Consortium.
As you approach the edge of the landing and the massive stone steps the ground beneath begins to tremble softly; a rumbling sound slowly growing louder and more violent until the ground erupts in a shower of rock and debris.

Junichiro drops a potion of fly from one of his spring-loaded wrist sheaths into his hand and drinks it, then, he takes to the sky while drawing his blades. He moves 40ft into the cavern, hovering in midair, preparing to challenge and charge the beast as soon as it appears.
We can force the beast to stay above ground if we are in the air. Also, it would be wise to take some measures against falling to your death in case it wants to throw us over the edge here.
Ceric - Eric de Vries

Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 20 = 22
Ceric nods at Ragnar
(I'll assume I know the dragon will use fire against us from my knowledge roll.)
Ceric will cast resist energy communal (for resist 20 fire lasting 20 minutes on everyone and 40 minutes for myself).
Ceric will then cast overland flight on himself.
"Everyone try to stay within 30ft of Ragnar (and me) if you can"

And in a great burst the creature burst forth from the earth and takes flight. She takes a quick look at each one of you and then speaks, My, my, my. You certainly are different than the ratlings that scurry about. Tell me what tribute have you brought forth for the great Xiangnuer of the futsanglungs?
Awveyen Thillvahna

Great Xiangnuer of the Futsanglungs, we are travelers on a diplomatic mission to the pagoda. We did not know to bring you tribute and so have nothing to offer except that The information we bring could prevent disaster to this mountain realm. Awveyen give the Dragon a respectful bow.

Asked Ragnar a little bit confused by the dragon's attitude.
Awveyen Thillvahna
|
In Celestial: The Great Dragon requires tribute. Junichiro and I will attempt to gain passage through its realm with diplomacy.
Junichiro
|
Please allow me to introduce ourselves
I am Junichiro Goemoto. These are my colleagues and companions Ragnar, Ceric and Awveyen.
We represent the legal owners of this demiplane, the Pathfinder Society, and we are tasked with keeping it safe from threats from within and out. Especially against agents of the Aspis consortium.
We are authorized to negotiate on behalf of the Society, but did not expect to specifically treat with you. As my colleague here has said, we did not bring tribute. Whatever we can work out depends on how well your intentions align with those of the Pathfinders. What do you desire?
The samurai's tone is courteous enough, but he stays on his guard, not taking his eyes of the dragon as he bows slightly.
Diplomacy with aid from Awveyen: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Junichiro's mental reserve against treating with the creature whose authority over this lands he vehemently disputes may have shone through in his words and gestures.
We might be doing the ratfolk a big favor by ridding them of an evil dragon that has probably been extorting them for tribute... Junichiro, LG as he is will however not be the first to attack a creature that is still just talking. That does not mean he likes negotiating with evil dragons, and should the situation require it, he will gladly attempt to take it down. For now, he is gritting his teeth.
Junichiro
|
Thank you for the offer, but I don't know if we can do that. For the same reason that you can only use the physical player character folio and not the PDF. At a physical table, we do stuff like borrowing each others shirts and whatnot all the time, however. If it would work, I think the bonus would be my own single star in any case.
Ragnar Gurnison
|
If I give you my shirt re-roll you will use my stars bonus, not yours. You can let your own re-roll but in any case you can't benefice from more than one re-roll
Ragnar a little confused by the situation said or do nothing, waiting for the inevitable fight but hoping for a peaceful conclusion for their mission.
