If we have anything like US States in our country, we should totally do Eastern European inspired names for them!

Lanyagrad
Gliadelarus (rhymes with Belarus)
Kernsylvania
Cromwelgaria
Theoldova
Dyrmenia

male Human Cleric of Abodar / 1

I like Gliakern, or Lanricsville myself. Or Kernwell, Theodyrm, Landel, Cromricsburg...
tho i also like
Lanyagrad ands Dyrmenia as well.

Well I must say Lanyagrad sounds nice ;)
Though with us six we have a ruler and 5 of the advisors, however if Lanya would assume a leading role, she would not want to rule alone rather be someone who could pull some strings behind the scenes.

Galedon (GAress, LEbeda, BelaDON)
Syllanya (Sylvania + Lanya)
Kernsgard
Dyrmhold
Czarmas (sounds like Charmes, little Eastern-European influence)

The naming of the country might be influenced based on what we learn and experience in the Greenbelt, whatever lived there, what/who we defeated, what/who still lives in the land.

In practical terms, Lanya's right. However, we're BSing around the campfire, so in that spirit:

We could take the first letter of all our names

DGLCTK

and just say we're Welsh.

How 'bout "Pleaseletussurvivelongenoughtofoundacity"?

You guys are great. I'll move the story along when your characters all go to sleep. :)

yay, Mount Nevermind!

Shadow Lodge

I'd like to propose something because you guys are very into the role play so far.

When your character is done role playing and ready for me to move the story on, just say so in [ooc ] at the end of your character's post.

I ask this so I don't step on any toes and so I know when the majority are done with a given situation.

I think this will help me learn how to pace this better for the future.

Please don't get me wrong. I LOVE what is going on. I just don't want to be the GM "that never posts" just because I'm not sure when to move things along without stifling good role play.

Does that work? Are there better ideas?

Male Dwarf (strong blooded) Fighter 5; AC: 22, HP: 28/75; Saves F+11, Ref +9, Will +9 (2 Hero points)

I totally understand your concerns. if you feel light RP won't ruin things, you could allow it to continue, but have ask that it be now a past scene, and put in spoiler tags. I've seen that work well enough in the past.

Shadow Lodge

That could work, but I do want the scenes to have a certain flow. I have ZERO problems letting you guys RP for 3 pages, but I'm not sure everyone in the group wants to do that.

I'm opening the discussion is all :)

male Human Cleric of Abodar / 1

I'm good with however we want to do it. I only get access to my comp, and this game , in the later evenings tho so don't post as much as others. XD

Male Half Elf Cavalier 1

I like RPing, but whatever the group wants to do. I think that the your idea of saying when you're done ooc is a good one though.

I like RPing when the situation lends itself to it. Right now along the night watches seems a perfect place to get to know each other better.

However 3 pages of role-playing seems an awful lot if we don't ever move, so I'm all for the plan to post ooc if we are done.

It works for me as well.

Apparently Theodric and Kern aren't big talkers, so I think it's safe to say our piece is done :)
(It would be weird to throw in a 'done' post at this stage, and would feel like I was trying to chivvy everyone else into being done, which is not the case).

hps 13/13 AC 18 touch 15 FF 13 F +1 R +7 W +2 init +7 Perc +5 (darkvision) Aasimar Bard (Dervish Dancer)

I'm always split between the desire to RP and the desire to move the story along. I think it's easy enough to spoiler tag conversations that are ongoing so that the story can move forward without everyone waiting a week for Me and Cromwell to talk about the Protectorate.

Shadow Lodge

I believe I understand.

Let's just keep communication lines open. If something about the game starts to suck or bum you out. Let us know and we will work to find a suitable solution.

I think this paranoia? comes from the games I have lost. I know how good Kingmaker gets because I have a live group that has nearly been going for two years.

I am really prepared for this to go the distance, and while I do not see any signs of less than high enthusiasm, I want you all to know that we can talk about whatever may come to bother you. Please don't ditch the game without talking to us :)

male Human Cleric of Abodar / 1

since Cromwell learned giant and I no longer need comprehend languages to speak with him, I prepared the spell moment of greatness. It is from Ultimate combat. It last 1 minute or til used. It is used to double one morale bonus, for 1 action. it is a 50 'radius burst, so I can cast it, then on each subsequent round, give someone my inspiring word ( have 6 uses of it.) which is only good for one round, but you can double it from +2 morale bonus to +4. not a bad combo.
Or if not that then if our bard inspires us, i can cast it and it will double that bonus for one action of your choice.

Still seems valid to me, assuming you are talking about the private language idea. For that matter, Lanya has an actual grounding in Linguistics, so if she broaches the concept first, he's not going to be hurt, or even surprised...

Kern's got a wicked intelligence, so I figure the best representation of that at this point is that he's *constantly* thinking. It wouldn't surprise me at all if other people have the same idea, but that I'm just the first to drop it in print.

I'd say run with it...

heh actually it wasn't about the secret language, though that was and is still a very good idea.

Though we could invent a new language, we might just have a series of far-travelling sounds, bird imitations or plain sign language to act as a secret way of communication.

I'm guessing Lanya will pick up a few more points in Linguistics as the adventure goes, however next level would probably give other skills the preference.

I was even thinking on taking a dip into rogue or bard for extra class skills, seeing as Ride and Perception seem to become pretty important by the looks of it.

male Human Cleric of Abodar / 1

Looks like I'll take bless and moment of greatness for my spells. Gliadel can only buff herself with the battle dance. so each lasts 1 minute (10 rounds), Bless is a +1 to attack and saves vs fear, full duration. moment of greatness last 1 minute or until used. You can double a morale bonus for one action. spell ends for you when you do this. I also have the domain power Inspiring word. 30' range +2 morale bonus on one action, but only lasts one round at this level. used with MoG it could make an impressive 1st round attack for Theodric.
Guidance(+1 competence) Inspiring word(+2 morale bonus) moment of greatness (doubling Inspiring word.+2) so a +5 on the first attack by Theo. Or i could make it a +6 by taking Magic weapon instead. (unless his weapon is MW then the to hit wouldn't stack.) shrug dunno. what does everyone else think.
I can do Inspiring word 6/day, but its a standard action for me and only lasts 1 round
bless gives everyone a +1 to hit for 1- rounds, Magic weapon gives Theo a +1 to hit and damage for 10 rounds.

Male Half Elf Cavalier 1

As I stated in character, I personally think it might be a good idea for you to prepare obscuring mist as one of your spells as a backup plan for a retreat Cromwell. If there end up being 15 bandits I think running away would be the best course of action, and that would be a huge help with that. Just my personal opinion though, your plan would work as well.

I don't have any masterwork weapons. I would appreciate a casting of guidance for the +1 bonus. You'd have to use inspiring word the same round I charged, and I think it would be more helpful for you to shoot your crossbow that round instead. If I understand the wording of bless right you could cast that first round as well and it would continue to effect me even after I charged away. That would give me +2 to hit, which should be plenty.

Based off of spell lists and such I think the best initial strike for the team would be as follows.

Right before battle: Cromwell casts guidance on Theodric, Kern casts enlarge person on Dyrm and gravity bow on himself.

1. Cromwell: Cast Bless on entire party
2. Theodric: Charge through gate and attack horse guard
3. Oleg: Close gate, then retreat to Svetlana's position
4. Gliadel: Cast sleep
5. Kern: Shoot arrow at anyone who is awake.
6. Lanya: Magic missile on anyone who's awake.
7. Dyrm: Chage in and attack anyone who's awake
8. Ging: Charge in and attack anyone who's awake

I hadn't realized we were lacking in any blasting spells when I suggested my original plan. If you guys have any suggestions or criticisms with this plan feel free to voice them though.

One of the few downsides of being a sorceress I guess, not many spell options at the start.

One problem I can think of is: What if they are faster than us? We could get one surprise action, but that's not enough to kill all of them outside the gates and I suspect at least one of them would turn tail and run.

Wouldn't it be better to close the gate when they are inside so they cannot escape? True that we can't escape as well, but we have an ogre on our side and spells to surprise them with.
As for the one that stays outside with the horses, Theodric could perhaps hide outside and charge him or Gliadel cats Sleep on him or I cast Grease on him to keep him busy.

male Human Cleric of Abodar / 1

personal preference would be to cast guidance on everyone when we see them approaching, we should see them a ways off. Then go ahead with bless. Then I would skedaddle up to the guard walk, on the wall and shoot down at them. anyone wounded just needs to get within 30' of me and I can burst heal 6/day. I have no problem with prepping mist instead of moment of greatness, I just liked the combo it gave.8D.
I can also pop of the inspiring word , 30' 6/day, as needed during the combat if i position myself right.
I like the idea of entrapping them as well. I have no horse and wouldn't be along to help chase runners down. However that being said the group I ran ( only made it thru 1st and part of 2nd book) managed to nearly burn Oleg's place down when they trapped the bandits inside.
Shrug. I'm adaptable, and usually amenable.

Male Half Elf Cavalier 1

Lanya, the plan you just suggested pretty much exactly what the plan I've been trying to tell you all is haha. I guess I did a bad job of explaining it, that's what I get for posting late at night when I'm sleepy.

The current plan does involve closing the gate and trapping the vast majority of the bandits inside the outpost. I charge and take out the lone guard outside. He's the only guy Theodric actually fights, and I don't attack him until every other bandit but him is already inside the fortress. My plan was to charge out the gate, but hiding in the forest outside the outpost would work too. Immediately after I charge, one of you (under the current plan Oleg) locks the gate behind me, trapping the bandits INSIDE the outpost. You guys start hitting the 5-6 bandits inside Oleg's place with everything you've got. Having Gliadel open up with sleep should disable a couple of them at least, and you all can focus on the ones who are awake. I'd imagine you can kill them pretty easily, especially with Ging helping.

Meanwhile, I move the enemy horses far enough away from the outpost that the bandits can't use them to escape. Once I do that, I run down any that manage to get out of the outpost, although I'm not expecting any will. I can move 250 ft per round running on horseback though, so none of those who slip by you guys should be able to outrun me.

Lanya, you're going to want to avoid casting grease on the bandits trapped inside the fortress because it will Dyrm and Ging's ability to charge into melee, they'll risk slipping. You also don't want to cast grease on the one I attack, because it could cause me to slip as well.

Cromwell, your shooting and healing plan sounds like a good one to me. I liked the moment of greatness combo too, but if GM DSP decides to spring the whole group of 15 on us we're going to need to retreat, and mist will be a life saver then.

Status:
HP: 14/14; AC: 10, T: 10, FF: 10; CMD: 13; Fort: 1, Ref: 0, Will: 3 Init +0; Perception +2
Half-elf Sorceress (Serpentine Blood) 2

If Ging is Large in size then he shouldn't fear any slipping, with Dyrm it might be true, but it all depends on where I aim that grease spell mind you.

I could cast Grease on them and behind them so Dyrm or you would not slip at all but gain a bonus on melee attacks as they are prone.

My only problem with your current plan is Theodric, that you have to charge out of the trading post towards the archer outside. I'm guessing if they see a fully armed and armoured horseman inside the trading post they'd suspect a trap immediately, you would also have to charge straight through 2-3 bandits to get outside.

hps 13/13 AC 18 touch 15 FF 13 F +1 R +7 W +2 init +7 Perc +5 (darkvision) Aasimar Bard (Dervish Dancer)

If we're all casting and shooting from behind the walls, there's no need for Theodric's charge to open the festivity. If he charges AFTER we've hit the guys inside, we still have cover against the archer, and THAT's when the fully armed and armored horseman comes charging out.

I was thinking that Gliadel (who has a horse) could start the combat mounted. She's not a specialist like Theo, but the mounted combat rules aren't too brutal. I cast sleep from horseback round one, then if Theo needs help, I can ride out, and if not, I just dismount and commence butchery.

Male Half Elf Cavalier 1

Wait Lanya, so does grease not effect large targets? Regardless you're right, you could always just aim it so as not to hit us.

You do bring up a good point about my plan being flawed, I forgot about attacks of opportunity. I think Gliadel's idea would fix the plan though; have Theodric go last and possibly focus our initial attacks on anyone who blocks my charge lane if everyone's cool with that. Keep in mind we don't have to kill everyone who can hit me, I can dodge one attack at my mount per round with mounted combat by making a ride check (and I have +9 to ride so that should succeed easily).

Taking everyones ideas into account then would the following plan sound like a better idea?

Before Combat: Cromwell guidances everyone, Kern casts enlarge person on Dyrm and gravity bow on himself

Surprise Round
1. A mounted Gliadel casts sleep
2. Cromwell uses bless, then moves to good archery position
3. Lanya casts grease as she sees fit
4. Kern shoots at anyone who is awake, prioritizing enemies in Theodric's charge path
5. Ging charges at anyone who is awake, prioritizing enemies in Theodric's charge path
6. Dyrm charges at anyone who is awake, prioritizing enemies in Theodric's charge path
7. Theodric charges out gate to take out enemy archer/guard
8. Oleg locks gate and retreats to Svetlana's position

Give any comments or criticisms you have with the new plan. Or feel free to suggest another plan as well, I don't want anyone to feel like I'm trying to force this one on them.

Ging would have more reach if he was Large so as to stay outside of the greased area when he attacks. Also Grease would be our second sleep spell , sort of, it incapacitates a number of them same as Sleep does.

I think that sounds about right Theodric, I will go for the Magic Missile plan round 2 or even fight hand-to-hand when necessary, two attacks should do nicely even for me.

I support the plan, and compliment us all on the extraordinary level of planning that went into something that will probably go completely upside down.

Male Half Elf Cavalier 1

That's why I didn't bother planning past the surprise round haha.

Kern will likely be using Enlarge Person on himself. Ging and Dyrm should be quite capable damage dealers without the boost.

Gliadel opening with a Sleep spell seems to be the best bet, and could change the entire tone of the combat, but I'm not sure that a mounted charge is going to be practical in this instance...I'd be surprised if there is anywhere a mounted Theodric can hide that he will be able to charge from but not be seen by the bandits before they enter the fort.

Just a thought, but it may be a good option to grease the area around the bandits' horses in order to prevent escape.
