Background:

Theodric Lebeda is the product of an affair between a nobleman from a cadet branch of House Lebeda named Vors and an elven maid who worked in his manor named Oparal. Had Oparal kept quiet when she became pregnant with him she would have been discretely looked after by House Lebeda. A comfortable job would have been found for her at another lord's manor and she would have been provided with a generous stipend to pay for the child's education and living. Instead she tried to force the nobleman to publicly acknowledge the bastard as his own. This proved to be a mistake on Oparal's part.

Her acusations were immediately denied by the nobleman. Vors claimed that the maid had been having relations with one of the townspeople and was trying to falsely claim the child as his so that she could get money from him. Lebeda's Retainers snuck into the poor elven woman's rooms and planted evidence that supported this claim and refuted her own. Oparal was promptly dismissed from her position at the manor and shamed into leaving Silverhall for New Stetven. House Lebeda made sure that every place Oparal tried working for knew that hiring her would bring the displeasure of their house down upon them. In short order, Oparal was reduced to working in a brothel to make ends meet.

Theodric's mother would have her revenge though. When her bastard son was born, he was given Vor's family name. From childhood Theodric was raised with full knowledge of what his birth father had done, and encouraged to make his name known throughout Brevoy so that his father's house would feel the shame of everyone in the kingdom knowing of what Theodric's father had done to his mother. Oparal assured that he would get the skills he needed to do so by having him trained in the arts of war by some of her clients. Sell-swords were easily encouraged to teach her son by the offer of a free hour with her for every hour they trained him. Clients who were political rivals of House Lebeda were talked into buying Theodric the equipment he needed. A few hundred gold worth of gear and a horse was a small price for them to pay to potentially humiliate an enemy. Theodric took quickly to horsemanship and the art of swordsmanship. His mother taught him what she could of the social arts that she'd learned in both her current and previous professions. Years of daily practice have greatly honed Theodric's skills, and he possesses a skill set quite comparable to the average knight.

While Theodric has developed a strong skill set, he has yet to truly make a name for himself. He and his mother mean to change that. Oparal heard rumors from one of her clients about an expedition to the Stolen Lands to root out bandits and reclaim the territory for the nation. It is the type of mission that can earn a man great renown, even get bards to sing tales of him on. Theodric has secured a position in this expedition, and has set out to become famous.
