Takara: for what it's worth I've always applied sneak attack for rogues on any "attack," including spells that don't require attack rolls, as long as the rogue meets all other requirements for sneak attack. Thorrpe, you can continue to apply sneak attack damage to magic missile as long as you are within 30 feet per RAW.
The creatures appear to be Allips. Those who fall prey to madness and take their own lives sometimes find themselves lost on the path to the afterlife, trapped in a state between life and death. These unfortunates, known as allips, suffer from the violent and incurable insanity they faced in life and take out their terror, confusion, and rage upon the living. They reach out to those they encounter—possibly in wrath, but also perhaps oblivious to their own insane nature—spreading the psychoses that led to their own untimely deaths.
The creatures are known to be incorporeal, to cause insanity with the babbling words that issue forth to all within sixty feet and that any caster trying to take control of an allip risks having the allip's madness infect them.
The magic missile and scorching rays strike the allips and they writhe in pain at the magic's touch.

DM my archetype extends that range to 40 :) totally worth giving up trap sense for !
Thorrpe grins Good job Shad! We should do that again! he begins to giggle at some unheard reply from Shad
Dwalindor the Pahmet

Dwalindor already acted this round...full round to apply oil to weapon. Is he up again? If so he will attack.
Takara Sawalha
"You lot look like you have this in hand." Takara states offhandedly, reserving her actions and spells for possible threats.
Hold Action

@takara, I have kept track of the 6 charges used from the wand. With Albus's 8 we are down a total of 14 by my calculations. I will track on my sheet unless someone else does .
DMummy
Ah, nevermind.
The allips begin to babble, half-gibbered words in Ancient Osiriani words about angles and footings and cornerstones.
The words wash over all of you and you can hear them eating away at your sanity.
Make a DC 15 Will Save (twice!) or be fascinated for 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 rounds for the first save, and 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5 for the second save if you fail.
Thorrpe
really...hold action against allips...seems foolish
2d20 ⇒ (15, 17) = 32 both +2
Takara Sawalha
I'm not an offensive caster and trying to use my spells to subdue the allips will only harm myself, especially when we have Dwalindor and Albus that drop massive damage. Plus, I'm running low on spells. Would rather not waste them when it can be handled by the party.
Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Takara becomes fascinated by the second allip's screeching, staring off into the void as it mumbles to itself.
Thorrpe
Thorrpe Ducks back around the corner and hides to try to get the drop again next round
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27 stealth
Takara Sawalha
If we are going to rest, then Takara can go all out! :D I'm just down to four spells left in total, so I'm reticent to expend them all in case we find something super tough.
"Angel Eyes" Albus
Lets rest after this location...if we survive.
Will: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 = 17
Will: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14
Albus stops fascinated, his gaze lost somewhere a thousand miles away.
Edited because I forgot about the will saves.
Dwalindor the Pahmet

Dwalindor studies the creatures, looking for weakness, but only finds their humming to be oddly soothing.
"Hey...they...um........maybe we can rest now?"
will, steelsoul: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 4 = 12
will, steelsoul: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 4 = 12
Its up to Thorpe and Shad. And Albus, if they are immune to their mind-numbing chatter
DMummy
While most of the party stands entranced, the Allips move forward towards Albus.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Wisdom Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Wisdom Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Albus takes 6 points of Wisdom damage, his sanity literally being clawed away from him by spectral hands.
Albus, you can act again, you and Thorrpe are up!
Thorrpe
1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 = 30 umd thorrpe calls for Shad again and he pops up and sends a mini bolt flying again
1d4 + 1 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (5, 3, 6) = 17 less the 3d6 if they spotted me
Dwalindor the Pahmet

How many are left? two? And I think the map link may be a green field for some other game? Or at least it was for me.
Dwalindor dreams of counting piles of gold coins...oblivious to the attack on his friends.
Takara Sawalha
Did I save against this allip that died or the one still active?
"Angel Eyes" Albus
Ouch! The magus yells waking up. He muster what magic he can to counter attack.
Shooo! Go bother the dwarf, his soul is tastier!
Attk: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 - 2 = 11
Dmg: 1d10 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 = 10
Casting Def DC16: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Shocking Grasp Spell Spellstrike: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 2 = 24
Dmg: 1d10 + 5 + 1 + 5d6 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 + (6, 5, 4, 3, 1) = 34

DMummy wrote:Albus will post, I know it!Made me smile in RL, love that song.
You'd have to be made of stone not to! Of course, Albus is now Wisdom 4 (-3!) so I did pretty well here
The allip screams as its existence vanishes, leaving you in the anteroom alone, among the discarded manuscripts.
Any rolls you guys wanted to make?
Thorrpe
Thorrpe puts his wand away and ties Dwalindors shoe laces together then takes a look around
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Thorrpe
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 appraise
Good eye Shad! I bet we can sell these! Hey truffle these are worth some coin!
Dwalindor the Pahmet

Dwalindor comes out of his stupor, oblivious to the comments about his soul and the tethering of his soles.
He tries to step forward and stumbles and almost falls flat on his face before catching himself (assuming DC10).
reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
"Hey what nonsense is this? THORPE!!!!! If I get my hands on you, you will regret it!"
The dwarf untangles his bootlaces with a dagger while the others check out the goods.
"Albus, you look a bit pale. I think we do need that rest now.
Dwalindor the Pahmet

Someplace safe, of course. LOL. Any places look undisturbed by undead or fairly defensible? Dwalindor can use survival or other check if that is warranted.
Dwalindor the Pahmet

"Let us make back to the Map shop. From there we can plan our next move. We will need watches during the rest. Will four shifts of 2.5 hours give everyone rest they need for prayers or studies? I know little about such things, so let me know if more or less is needed."
Takara Sawalha
Are there no places to go to in the city? I'd imagine that there have to be inns or something in the area, right?
Dwalindor the Pahmet
|
That was my first thought...but I was not sure how far we traveled and if we would have to fight our way back to civilized areas in our weakened state.
Takara Sawalha
"We would have to gain the trust of the Mapmaker, first, I imagine. I wouldn't let strangers sleep in my shop..." Takara states plainly.
Dwalindor the Pahmet
|
"Aye, tis true. But we did show our willingness to do business with him. He might even like the extra protection during these rough times."
Dwalindor turns to the others.
"Thorpe? Albus? can you make it that far? Or are we gonna need a full-up temple for you, buddy?
Thorrpe
Shad has kept me safe so far, I have a couple scratches that could be patched
Takara Sawalha
"We might as well ask. Off to the Maps." Takara agrees.
On the way there, the raven-haired woman offers up her skills at healing. "Once we find a place to rest, I can use my limited magicks to heal up any physical damage sustained. Albus' mental... impairment is out of my league, however." Takara informs the party.
Thorrpe
Thorrpe scampers over and shows the deep purple bruise over his ribs and pouts a bit

You can retreat out of the Necropolis into Wati itself if you want to, true, but you would lose a good deal of time.
As you arrive back at Mahhpet's Marvelous Maps, you see your congenial shopkeep has been been busy. Where there was a small courtyard in front of his door, you see several large sandstone blocks have been dragged and stacked to create a larger wall, and the ironwood door has been hung in an opening.
Freshly chiseled hieroglyphs adorn a tablet hanging on the door.
"I assure you, we're open."
Dwalindor the Pahmet

"You gotta admire his stubbornness...almost dwarf-like!"
DMummy
Djar will look at all of you as you approach.
Ah, my friends! How wonderful to see you again. I trust the maps are serving you well?
Having said this he puts out a large wooden trash bin filled with zombie limbs and various bones on the street.
Not to bother you too much, but does the street cleaning still get done of Fifth Day?
