This spacious room has entrances in the southern and eastern walls. The aged remains of dressers, a large bed, and a divan lie in ruins. The husk of large hornet’s nest, gray, papery, and devoid of life, occupies one corner of the ceiling.
The spaces in the northeast and northwest corners appear to be closets. Their wooden doors have all but fallen off their hinges, and heaps of disintegrated fabric mingle on the floor. Between the closets stands a single lacquered dresser covered in dust.
However, as you enter the doors at M3/4 the doors J/K 7 open and you hear an ungodly screech from across the balcony.
The creature that has emerged from one of the other rooms is a blackened, bat-winged fiend’s head. Tentacles dangle from chin and scalp, and its fanged mouth hangs agape.

Albus moves to the headless body and casts detect magic. He also retrieves the incripted ring from its dead hand. Maybe somebody would pay ramsom for that one.
I was thinking that for all its nice painted walls this place is pretty much empty of big game loot. Now I know why, somebody have being here before recently, that body is from a an "explorer" like us.
And yea, I dont like what something did to its head either.
Edit: Ninjaed by the DM, incoming second post.

Incoming!
Albus moves past Dwalindor to make form a line of defense and readies an attack.
Moves to N8, uses arcane poll to grant +1 enhancement bonus to weapon and readies an attack against the thing. What is that square in the middle of the room that looks like a poll of dirt?

He grips his Lucern hammer...

The floating head swoops in and bites at Dwalindor viciously.

The jaws manage to clamp down and grind deep into Dwalindor. Worse, the slavering jaws drip some fluid into the bite that burns terrible.

The monster is a vargouille: a particularly nasty extraplanar beast.
The monster has three things that you can recall about it.
First, the monster's bite is poisonous, and the poison is based on negative energy that prevents wounds caused by the bite from healing naturally should the poison take hold.
Second, a vargouille can emit an ear-piercing shriek that inspires paralysis on nearby creatures and people.
Third, the kiss of a vargouille can drive a man mad and cause him to die and rise as a vargouille in less than a day.
No map yet, and have to run real quick, back on in a few hours.

That's a damn fine hit. As I see it you're 2/4 0-level spells and 2 1st level spells still, correct?
The extremely precise and damaging magical attack causes tremendous damage to the vargouille and it shrieks as it struggles to maintain it's altitude.

Dwalindor's hammer blow strikes the crown of the monster's head and knocks it down onto the packed and of the courtyard where it bounces a few times before rolling to a stop.
However as soon as his attack comes a second vargouille bursts out of the second door to the west.

DMPC for Azubah:
Azubah readies his attack, intoning a prayer to Aroden to guide his hand against this unholy enemy.
The new vargouille flies towards you and lets out an unholy screech as it closes, the wave of sound crashing against you and you can feel magic clutching at your limbs to prevent you from moving.

Albus shrugs off the shriek and slams his blade hard into the vargouille, which explodes when he channels arcane power into it.
As soon as the vargouille's bits scatter across you, you hear a voice echoing in your head.
Why? Why do you have to keep ruining everything?!

I spent a few minutes trying to decide how to deal with an enlarged person walking on a surface half his size, but decided to just let it slide, presuming Rameth is hugging the side of the wall like he's walking on a ledge because I find the image funny.
Most of the contents of this room have fallen apart or otherwise been reduced to dust from the dry desert air. A foul, cloying smell fills the room.
You see two rats now, scurrying through tiny holes in the walls into the adjoining rooms.

In this next room, a large lacquered desk, now in poor condition, sits in the center of this room. Bookcases stand along the eastern and southwestern walls, sagging as if ready to collapse at any moment. Their shelves have fallen out, and the piles of dust at their bases are all that remains of books and scrolls that failed to survive the long years.
The lacquered wooden frames of what might once have been divans stretch along the north and south walls, but their upholstery has disintegrated. A single door in the western wall is the room’s only exit.
