Murmur wanders over to the gnome's image. A fool's mocking tones: "You make these metal dolls to play with and still must empty your own chamber pot? They must be dear friends indeed, or perhaps...something more? Tell me, do you have a flesh doll that appears similar to a female gnome?"

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

Gathroc laughs at the disembodied voice "Empty words from beyond these walls. Were we lesser begins, perhaps you would scare us, but I have been far greater than a mere mortal for centuries. Perhaps others will not harm you if you comply, but *I* look forward to tearing apart this wretched tower and slaying all who make it their home."

1d20 + 25 ⇒ (7) + 25 = 32 Intimidate

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

Gabriel continues to quietly search for alternative exits ;-)

Minor Crab-beast

The gnomish image is unmoved by your posturing "Undead abominations may still be yet returned to dust. I do not fear you." and with that starts to waver and disappear. Just before it vanishes you could swear that you see a smirk on its face.

Gabriel:
You notice that the center of the ceiling has a hairline crack running around the center of it. Tracing a roughly 10ft diameter circle.
Haven't forgotten... *wink*

Perception DC 30 - Gabriel may look:
You hear the distant sound of well-oiled gears starting to bind and turn. The sound comes from the roof in the center of the room.

Those who make the Perception check (including Gabriel) may act in the 'surprise round'

Perception check: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 32
Initiative (if needed): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Murmur begins Inspire Courage.

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

edit: Holy crap. Wasn't expecting that.

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

perception 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (15) + 25 = 40

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

1d20 + 23 ⇒ (19) + 23 = 42 Perception

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 Initiative

Am I mostly/fully healed?? 5 HP per round fast healing

Perception: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (1) + 28 = 29

Sorry for the silence. Been busy the last few days.

Minor Crab-beast

The center of the roof retracts outwards, revealing an area of deep blackness in the hollow above it. The darkness is roiling and moving as you observe it, though has not yet expanded out. The roof continues to retract outwards toward the wall.

Gathroc - consider yourself back at 100%
Euridicea - no problems, glad you're still lurking around.

Murmur, Vesta, Daemon, Gathroc, Gabriel - you have a chance for a surprise round action if you like before things get interesting.

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

Gabriel spends his surprise round action scurrying over to the wall (since I imagine he was on the roof at the time).

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

Sorry, my Google Reader, which I usually use to keep up with PBPs, has been acting up lately. If it's still viable, perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

Knowledge(Arcana) 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 32 With detect magic activated

I move away from the center of the room, making sure to avoid the front door at the same time

Minor Crab-beast

Ignac - no worries, take a standard action in the surprise round as well.

Daemon:
The roiling black is definately magical, and you begin analyzing the arcane signature it gives off.
If you spend a standard action in Round 1 you'll get more info

Vesta:
You have never seen or heard of anything exactly like this before.

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

DM:
I will

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

I'll move to be adjacent to someone, doesn't matter who. Preferrably one of the casters.

Also, Initiative, as I'm sure it will be needed:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Minor Crab-beast

Assuming Murmur decides to hold to previous action of starting up Inspire Courage - feel free to ret-con if not.

Round 1:

A flurry of crossbow bolts arc out of the darkness at the party. They come from all angles within the animate cloud of black to strike at the undead arrayed below.

Murmur attacks: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Gabriel attacks: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Daemon attacks: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Euridicea attacks: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Gathroc attacks: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Vesta attacks: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 They are standard bolts, no ghost touch capability
Ignac attacks: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 and 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Any hits inflict 1 damage. You hear a low hum starting to build up in the room.

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

Standard non-magical bolts mean they don't affect me. If they're magic they have a 50/50 chance of affecting me. (i'm pretty sure thats how it works. If not feel free to correct me.)

Given this new informationVesta will make her way to the center of the disk and attempt to pass through it to get into the mechanism of the trap. assuming I can do this I want to begin to telekinetically start ripping it apart. Not sure what to roll. Please advise.

In PF, magic weapons do 50% damage to incorporeal, rather than the 50% chance to hit from 3.5.

Murmur peers into the darkness, looking for the source of the bolts. If he cannot see anything with Darkvision, he'll cast Dancing Lights, in the form of four glowing spheres.

Good to know. Thank you. FYI: The first volley completely missed, so it's merely academic at this moment.

Euridicea seems oblivious as the bolts fly by all around, most missing and striking nothing but stone. One does chance to graze her upon her shoulder. The hit spun her about to tsk at the darkness, "Missiles like angry words from the darkness, do not wound without magic or some finesse, the howling of the hounds off the chain, inspire no fear at their pitiful pain."

Minor Crab-beast

Declared Actions - Vesta, Murmur, Daemon.
Anyone else doing anything? - if not I'll advance...

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

I was spending a standard action trying to figure out school of magic, and none of the bolts hit me so I don't feel in any rush to do anything else till next round.

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

Gathroc, being unable to attack whatever is up in the ceiling, decides to plant himself and wait for anything to come through the hole and strike then.

Readying an action to attack anything that comes down through the hole and within striking distance

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

What can Gabriel sense up in the darkness? He does have 30' Blindsense :-) If there is something physical up there, he can take a crack at attacking it, but otherwise, all he can do is go up into the darkness and see what is 'above'...

Minor Crab-beast

The bolts clatter harmlessly through Vesta, striking the wall behind her. Any other strikes with the bolts have them hold fast to their target - adhering at the point.

The hum builds to a crescendo before discharging with an almighty boom. Lightning arcs out from the center of the black cloud striking any creature that was hit by a bolt. The electrical discharge burns up the bolts and sends waves of destructive sparks through your body.

Anyone struck by a crossbow bolt takes 5d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 2, 3) = 15 electric damage per bolt.

Gabriel:
You don't sense anything living, though there are somethings moving within the darkness. Do you want to move into the black and see if you can grab one?

Vesta:
You rise into the roiling darkness and can see nothing through your eyes. Your senses are blanked out by the miasma of black. Having no thought of where to direct your mind, you cannot tear anything apart.
Continue to rise, or something else?

Daemon:
Studying the magic further you gauge that it is a higher form of darkness spell, fabricated to snuff out all senses that probe into it's depths. You don't believe the bolts came from the spell effect, so there must be something else up there...

Male Human(Lich) Cleric 3, Wizard 3, Mystic Theurge 4

Really glad I didn't get hit by one of those bolts now

"Ah, I see, that is a darkness spell specifically tailored to dull senses and prevent probing within it. There appears to be a mechanism housed in it that uses the bolts as tracers for the lightning. Hardly dangerous but we should probably destroy this nuisance."

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

DM:
from my position inside the mechanism blindly fire a lightning bolt toward the center of the contraption.

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

Does SR apply to the elec dmg?

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10
Gathroc The Betrayer wrote:

Only if the source is a spell. WIth traps it's a grey area.

Minor Crab-beast

Sure - SR can apply
SR Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

'Male' Crawling Claw (Human) Rogue 10

DM - Voice:
Gabriel will move into the darkness, and try to catch one of the moving things...

+1 Ghost-touch Claw: 1d20 + 24 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 24 + 2 + 2 = 39, for 1d1 + 10 + 2 + 5d6 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 2 + (5, 4, 3, 4, 1) = 30 Magical S/B damage.

Grab: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34 Vs CMD of ?

Minor Crab-beast

Gabriel:
Sensing one come close you lash out, splintering wood and metal with your strike before grasping what is left of what seems like a wooden stock.

Vesta - will update your action once I get any additions from the others

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

I'll stand my ground, preferrably standing in front of anyone who can be harmed by electricity.

Also, I'm going to be gone for the rest of today.IRL game to go to.

Somebody has said that in all of my games. Either you're all the same person or it's one hell of a game. ;-) Regardless, have fun.

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

Nah, I'm the same person.

Male Fell Tiefling Fighter/Monk/Magus 12(tristalt)

What exactly are we waiting on? For a reminder, Gathroc has readied an action in case anything comes through the hole and into striking distance

Minor Crab-beast

Euridicea and Murmur were the ones without defined options. Bumping things along now.

Vesta lets loose a lightning bolt into the area above you, which immediately strikes the roof and rebounds into the chamber below. It ricochets from ceiling to floor a couple of times before reaching the end of it's tether. On the second rebound a broken crossbow falls out of the blackness to the floor, stock broken and metal bow warped.

Lucklily none of the undead group are struck by the rogue bolt.

Gabriel falls from the roof holding onto a second crossbow that is similarly damaged. The hand nimbly disengages and manages to avoid taking any damage from the fall.

Murmur's dancing lights disappear if forced into the miasma of black, then reappear if directed back below the lower threshold.

Perception DC 20:
You hear several clicks as though a number of crossbows were being re-cocked.

I didn't post an update because I had already posted about the Dancing Lights.

Perception check: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31

"The rain of bolts and thunderstorm is coming again." Annoyed at being unable to see anything past the seemingly magical darkness, Murmur casts Dispel Magic on the darkness.

Minor Crab-beast

Murmur - can I get a caster level check for the dispel?

Male Human Graveknight Armiger 10

Perception minimum is 22

"Anyone who has a tough time with electricity, get behind me for this next flurry. It doesn't affect me."

Sorry, forgot. Caster level check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Minor Crab-beast

As Murmur's spell finishes, the roiling black fades away as though dispersed by an invisible gust of wind. You see a large number of crossbows floating in the now visible space, animated by magic as there are no hands wielding them.

In the centre of the roof sits a multifaceted orb hanging on a stubby chain. It crackles slightly with electricity as you observe it.

Female Human (ghost) Shadow Sorcerer 10

perception1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

I think we may have a small misunderstanding. A few rounds ago I floated into the center of the mechanism. I was going to blindly use telekinesis to tear it apart, but you said I couldn't use Telekinesis because I couldn't see (which is fair). So you asked me if I was going to continue up and I said no I would stay where I was (in the mechanism). Then, still inside the mechanism of the trap, I fired a lightning bolt into the trap. I blindly fired on the opposite side of the ceiling where the group is at where the center should be. Now I'm fine with how things went down, but where in the room do you imagine I am? Because If I can't damage the thing with lightning I'm sure as hell not staying in the center of it. ;-)

If vesta is in the mechanism when the darkness fades, she will shift into the stone ceiling (sideways as if laying down).

If vesta is not in the mechanism she will pull a pull a scrap of cloth out of her pocket and toss it on the floor, mentally dismissing a magic effect (Shrink item). The scrap of cloth becomes a 5 foot diameter stone boulder weighing 300 lbs. She will then use the violent thrust version of telekinesis to launch it at the machine.

To hit trap 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 2612d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 5, 2, 3, 6, 3, 2, 6, 2, 5) = 47 Half for objects So the total is 23 damage to the trap

Then the boulder proceeds to fall back to the ground

Viloent Thrust Notes:

Note: This ability is based on HD (which are higher), not caster level.
Violent Thrust: Alternatively, the spell energy can be spent in a single round. You can hurl one object or creature per caster level (maximum 15) that are within range and all within 10 feet of each other toward any target within 10 feet per level of all the objects.

You can hurl up to a total weight of 25 pounds per caster level (maximum 375 pounds at 15th level).

You must succeed on attack rolls (one per creature or object thrown) to hit the target with the items, using your base attack bonus + your Intelligence modifier (if a wizard) or Charisma modifier (if a sorcerer). Weapons cause standard damage (with no Strength bonus; note that arrows or bolts deal damage as daggers of their size when used in this manner). Other objects cause damage ranging from 1 point per 25 pounds (for less dangerous objects) to 1d6 points of damage per 25 pounds (for hard, dense objects).

Minor Crab-beast

Vesta - at the end of the day potayto potahto, as it probably ended up rubbing out the same way. As far as position, you were floating roughly in the center of the area that was blacked out - so not within anything but close to the crackling orb.
Dismissing the spell is a standard action, so the stone throw will have to come through next 'round'

The boulder thing was just if I was on the ground. Disregard that. Since I am where I thought I was I'll just start telekinetically tearing apart the device, starting with the orb.

Euridicea proceeded to begin a waltz under the reloading crossbows, her parasol being pulled forth once more and popped open above her head. She couldn't do much regardless as most of her spell selection for the day was based on dealing with the living or things of flesh, not the unthinking coldness of machine and metal.

Minor Crab-beast

In the interest of anti-stagnation and getting you up against more fleshy opponents, which I think will be more fun for all concerned...

Vesta reaches out with her mind tearing at the dangling orb. It comes free with an almighty crack and falls to the floor below. At the same time the remainder of the crossbows also fall inert to the ground.

Vesta:
You are unable to breach the ceiling incorporeally

Gabriel:
If you decide to inspect the roof area you find a mechanism that you believe with lower a set of stairs to allow ascendance to the next floor.
