Game Master Valkur

Looking to start an Age of Worms AP. Although it may not follow the modules directly. I have a few ideas that I would like to add in.

Looking for 4-5 characters.

Expectations:
1. Minimum of 1-2 posts during M-F, 1 post per weekend.
2. Creative and interesting backgrounds are a plus.
3. Play nice with others.
4. Character optimization is okay, but try not to go overboard.
5. Have some knowledge of Greyhawk.

Spoiler:

1. 1st Level Characters
2. Race: Core, APG, UC, UM, ARG (Non core races are okay, but I will probably only pick one)
3. Class: Core, APG, UC, UM, UE (Non core classes are okay, but I will probably only pick one)
4. Archetypes: Core, APG, UC, UM, ARG, UE
5. Abilities: 20-pt Buy
6. Alignment: Any good or neutral. (No evil)
7. Wealth: Average Starting
8. Character Traits: None

Just the character idea and background are needed until I select the PCs.

Recruitment will be open until March 26th.
I will select characters on March 27th.

Dark Archive

Just to be Clear, Recruitment will be open for a month, but players are being picked till 7 months later? I think you will have a hard time finding players if that is the case.

HI! I'd be very interested, not really familiar with age of worms, which makes it more intriguing. IS it a paizo AP?

My character Idea would be CG Dwarven Fighter using a Dorn-Derger, eventually learning to weild it one handed and using a shield as well. Power attack will be a staple, and depending on poarty needs and campaign style could go the step up and strike route or the disruptive/spellbreaker route.
Backstory: He's adrift so to speak, the last member of his family having died in some battle against a dragon and his mate years ago. The dragons were mortally wounded but all his family is dead and what little remained of his clan was adopted into another. He has lost purpose, and thus goes where the moment steers him, drinking and eating entirely too much, giving little concern to his appearance. Underneath the mess, lurks a dwarven warrior, fierce and determined when pushed, if only there were some way to shake him from his melancholy....

Is that enough information to go on or do you want more?

That was a big time typo, should have been March 27th.

Awesome. I'll Sumbit a character stat block tonight. Thinking some kind of Ranger. I assume you are using GreyHawk deities?

Ok, got a profile created, can work on crunch tomorrow, have a real world game tonight.

Greyhawk gods will be used. We may need to tweak domains to fit Pathfinder, but that should be doable.

Kyle Reyford is too smart for a no-talent dump like Diamond Lake. Yessir, he's going places, you'll see. Kyle may be rough around the edges. He may be a wanderlust-stricken cutthroat, but the world has places for people like him. Those places certainly don't include Diamond Lake's mines (he tried that for awhile, all the other miners were jealous of his talents.) Nope, he's got eyes on bigger prizes.

No one's quicker or deadlier with a knife than ole Kyle, nosir. Years of practice can't match the talents the gods gave Kyle. Why in a few years, he'll probably be takin' on some of those gods with one of his little pocket slicers.

Now, some people see his "roguish" grin and see his massive talent at every darn thing he tries and assume he'd be a good tomb-raiding trap-fixing kind of guy, but Kyle just wasn't meant for solving those kinds of problems, per se. Sure, he's got the talent, but he'd rather stick a knife in it and call it done. I guess he's old-fashioned that way.

Now this isn't to say the Kyle is only good at poking stuff; why he can carry a tune, pick up a hammer and pound out a pretty good sword, hell, he can pretty much do anything he sets his mind too. Mostly, though, Kyle likes the gold and he don't care much how he gets it, just so long as innocent people aren't hurt. That's right, Kyle has a sense of morality, maybe not your typical law abiding citizen's morality, but Kyle's seen the ugly side o' the law often enough to know it ain't justice.

((stats in profile, will likely be updated/cleaned up some soon))

I'd love to give this a try. Gonna get stats up soon. Time for some Wiz Biz.

I'm thinking an elf ranger/sorcerer/arcane archer

tossing my hat in the ring with Gregor Kardoff...Human Ranger.

Ill work on him tonight when I get home

I am interested. Leaning towards a barbarian

Queslin ia a young elf with dreams of high adventure. He works with the circle of druids, running errands and assisting them in whatever fashion he can. He'll often come into town for supplies or to deliver messages and is on good terms with the local constabulary and small elven population.

Ill do more of Gregors info later today, most the crunch except for equip is done.

Id say for a background, He works for the Mining Company of Diamond Lake as an 'Exterminator' Going after Vermin (Favored Enemy)

List of submissions:

Kyle Reyford Human Rogue (Knife Master/Scout)
Josh Shrader
Morgun Longfist Dwarven Fighter
Talnir Elmwood Elf Wizard
Dax Thura Elf Ranger/Sorcerer/Arcane Archer
Gregor Kardoff Human Ranger
Githanis Barbarian
Queslin Elven Druid
Gregot Kardoff Human Ranger

Great list so far, lots of nature types!

Age of worms was the second AP in Dungeon that followed Shackled City. It will take a party from levels 1-20 maybe a bit higher.

It is set in Greyhawk and starts in a rough and tumble mining town of Diamond Lake, which is three days north of the Free City of Greyhawk.

Timeline-wise this will take place a few years after the Greyhawk Wars.

Characters can be from Diamond Lake or newcomers seeking to make their fortunes in the mines.

OK, taking the nature-theme of other characters and running with it, I've had a concept for a Human Oracle of Wood that could be fun. Would you be willing to consider the Wrecker curse from Blood of Fiends?

Wrecker:
Held objects gain the broken condition when you use or equip them but regain their actual condition if employed by anyone else. If a held item is restored to unbroken condition, it becomes broken again the following round. Disable Device becomes a class skill for you and you can make Disable Device checks to destroy nonmagical traps as a move action without the need to use tools or take any action beyond simply touching it.

At 5th level, whenever you attempt to damage an object with a melee attack, reduce its hardness by an amount equal to your oracle level before determining the damage you deal with that attack.

At 10th level, any attacks you make against objects and constructs automatically bypass any damage reduction they may possess except epic.

At 15th level, whenever you are dealt damage by an attack with a manufactured weapon, you can require the weapon’s wielder to make a Reflex save (DC 10 + 1/2 your oracle level + your Charisma modifier) to avoid having the weapon collapse into dust immediately after striking you (magical weapons receive an additional saving throw against this effect).

Background:
She is a Diamond Lake miner who, while doing some illegal trapping in the nearby woods, caught something better left alone -- a servant of Obad-Hai. Her life was spared because she did not kill the creature, but because she would not free it, Obad-Hai cursed (and blessed) her with the powers of the Wilderness. No longer able to work in the mines (as everything he touches breaks when he tries to use it) she has become little more than a hobo, scraping together what living she can on the outskirts of Diamond Lake.

A few levels of Barbarian are a possibility, but it's at least as likely that she would stay pure Oracle -- it all depends on the rest of the party.

Mines, perfect!

I was in a real world shackled city capaign, lord of fun, excellent AP

A group like this needs a Bard.

So here is one.

I don't have blood of fiends but the wrecker looks okay to use.

Introducing the New and Improved Tara Teller!

Now, with background!

Dark Archive

I'm going to put forward a Dwarven Paladin. I just need to go refresh my memory of the dwarven pantheon. It's been a long while since I've played in Greyhawk. I should have everything up by the deadline.

Updated List of possible characters:

Josh Shrader (need a character and background)
Morgun Longfist Dwarven Fighter
Talnir Elmwood Elf Wizard (need character background)
Dax Thura Elf Ranger/Sorcerer/Arcane Archer (need character background)

Queslin is my entry. If you check he's a ranger. Sorry for the confusion. Obviously I need to work on his background.

Grand Lodge

Queslin ia a young elf ranger, with dreams of high adventure, in the service of the Bronzewood Lodge Druids, running errands and assisting them in whatever fashion he can. He'll sometimes be sent into town to purchase supplies or to deliver messages. When in town he spends time with the small elven population that runs the Moonmeadow Mine. Through Merris Sandovar, he is on good terms with the garrison as well.

I was able to find out more about the campaign area and have updated my background a little.

I've always wanted to play Age of Worms.

My initial compulsion is a human (Suel) champion of Kord. Class wise I'd love to make him an inquisitor with the Valor inquisition, and the physical exemplar archetype package. It's a third party archetype, so I'll understand if you say no. I would lose my ability to cast spells and orisions, but keep my domain. It's described in the side bar on the right if you scroll down.

Bragi is a miner who grew up in Diamond Lake, always one of the biggest and strongest in town. He's about twenty years old, his father is a crippled drunk (mining accident) and his mother is a seamstress/weaver. He loves hard work and any kind of athletic competition, and is considered very brave due to his conduct during a mining accident a couple years back.

A tunnel had collapsed, trapping several miners below ground. Everyone else was too scared to scramble inside and try to help them, but Bragi refused to just let them die. He climbed down into the shaft and with a prayer to Kord on his lips managed to remove enough of the stones for the trapped miners to get free. He's a ladies man, and friends with many of the town guard. He's always roping them into training sessions during their off time. Bragi has dreams of one day becoming an adventurer and escaping Diamond Lake to show off his strength to all the world.

I am having writers block, so I withdraw my submission, good luck to all the people.

Dark Archive

My Primary concept is a Paladin dedicated to a cause as opposed to a god (You used to be able to do that... I'm not sure if that's still a thing). He'd be dedicated to stopping the Earth Dragon wherever it brings devastation. A mine seems like a prime place for the Earth Dragon's servants to attack someone. Y'know digging in the dark and finding that unholy thing.

If this works I can flesh out a background. I am, in fact, going to do that anyway, I'll just have to edit the end of said background if the idea of a paladin dedicated to a cause doesn't work for you. Patron diety would wind up being Moradin.

I'll have to try to familiarize myself with Greyhawk, but I would like to purpose my summoner here. I will have to tweak him a little and buy his gear still. I'll try to come up with a suitable backstory for him once I'm more up on the setting.

Dark Archive

Below is the background for my Dwarven Paladin of Moradin.

Eldgrim:
Eldgrim was raised, as are most dwarves, in the halls of his forefathers. Expert miners the lot of them, he took to the trade readily. Unfortunately, the dwarves dug too deeply, spurred on by greed. They awoke something ancient and vile. Few survived the onslaught. Eldgrim, hardly a warrior, hardly a man, was knocked into a newly opened shaft.

He lay bleeding and unconscious at the base of the shaft. He had a vision of the All-Father. Moradin told him that his people needed him. That he would take on the mantle of a Stonelord and defend those that needed it, wherever that may be.

Divine light filled Eldgrim and he awoke. When he finally emerged from the shaft it had been weeks since he’d fallen. Much of that time was spent unconscious. There was no sign of the fiend they had awakened. He took up his father’s Dorn-Dergar and strode out into the daylight.

He mourned for his people and hoped that he might see some of them again, but he had a destination. He traveled for Diamond Lake. Along his way he met with a cleric of Moradin. The cleric had been given a vision of Eldgrim and knew when and where he would find the young dwarf. He handed off the items he’d been instructed to pass a long and gave the new Paladin a blessing.

Now Eldgrim approaches the town of Diamond Lake and has to wonder what’s drawn him here.

Applying to join this ap with an oracle of metal.
background is done, working on the crunch now...

Reading through the backgrounds of other characters, I'm wondering...

@Morgun Longfist: Any interest in a shared story?

Background:
Bron woke in a cold sweat his breath coming in short gasps. "That dream... no nightmare." he said as he threw the hot wool blanket of him and put his bare feet to the floor. The stone was cold but that felt good to him at the moment he was so hot he was still sweating.

He took to steps to his chest in the small cell he had in the House of Radiance, and found a candle. "Pelor give me the gift of light." he whispered the pray and a spark of fire lept from his finger to light the candle. The room brightened and Bron felt better almost immediately.

Knowing that he needed to report his dream he dawned his vestments and went to find a high ranking acolyte. Dreams were sometimes portents or glimpses of the future given to men by the gods to help them combat evil or save those who are good. Bron prayed his was just a standard nightmare and nothing would be thought more of it.

Three days later as he rode the back of a turnip wagon on his way to Diamond Lake he remembered that last thought. "Guess Pelor heard all my prayers but that one." he sighed to himself.

Dark Archive

Wikipedia actually has a pretty decent breakdown of the Greyhawk deities here and a supplement here.

I used this to get locations and background for Tara. Highly recommended for anyone who doesn't know Greyhawk or needs a refresher.

Cleric of Pelor, Glory and Sun Domains

Radiant Servant Terrin

fluff:

Terrin had learned several things during the four years of training from Acolyte to Radiant Servant. First and foremost, that despite the fact he was being sent to the backside of nowhere to minister to some miners, that a situation would be as good or as bad as he mentally allowed. Simply dwelling on the location and its distance from Greyhawk would only make him morose, focusing on the challenge of bringing the Light of Patience and Forgivness to the miners could prove worthwhile.

Secondly, they didn't really need him in Greyhawk. There were plenty of older Servants to minister to the masses. Out here, they had nobody. There were fields and children and even mines that needed blessings. Working in the darkness all day, he was certain the miners would need reminding and reassurance of Pelor's Blessings.

So he was off to Diamond Lake, to settle in and save some souls.

appearance:

A wiry and slightly unlikely Radiant Servant, Terrin doesn't look physically imposing. Nor is he that noticable, brown hair, mud-brown eyes, he looks like the son of a farmer. What he does have is a certain peace. He doesn't ever seem anxious or worried, just calm. He simply radiates utter faith in Pelor.

Great work so far everybody. I will be making the selections tomorrow evening around 7pm central. After that we can get the characters firmed up and ready to go.

Good luck to all!

Bragi would be a frontliner in case that's not clear from his description. Greatsword wielder, in medium armor with skills in tracking, monster lore, and some basic "face" stuff. He'd also have judgements, also some anti-fear stuffs.

Any comment on the third party archetype I linked to DM?

I'm really enjoying brushing up on Greyhawk. If nothing else I get to recall the good old days...

Best of luck all.

Drat, I got busy IRL and never got around to fixing Seth here. Oh well, good luck everyone else.

This is my take on the Roster, I am sure that DM Valkur has his own list. I just do these for my own sanity while waiting.

I'm not familiar with the inquisitor class, as nobody in my ftf group has yet to play one. With that being said I would prefer to stay with the paizo rules. I do like the character concept!

In that case he'd be weaker physically, but have spells.

Age of Worms Begins!

Lots of tough choices, but in the end I have decided to use the following six characters:

Terrin (ZetaGilgamesh) Human Cleric of Pelor
Eldgrim (twilsemail) Dwarven Paladin
Bragi (DM Jelani) Human Inquisitor of Kord
Kyle Reyford (Reckless)Human Rogue (Knife Master/Scout)
Tara Teller (dreamingdragon)Halfling Bard
Queslin (Dax Thura) Elven Ranger (Arcane Archer)

Thanks to all who submitted characters.

As for the players I'll start going through the character sheets. And we can make any modifications to backgrounds as needed.

The only issue I see is that we have no Wizard/Sorcerer. Would anybody want to switch?

I could change, I'm not completely wedded to Bragi. I'd prefer a witch though if I was going to play an arcane caster. Obviously I'd have to write a different story as well, but that's easy.

I can't. Having a cleric to deal with undead is pretty much a requirement for Age of Worms. Without one, the difficulty goes up significantly. I plan on playing him as a straight cleric all the way through too.

I will run Terrin through Herolab tonight to make sure the crunchies are crunchy.

Queslin will have some arcane ability, but don't count on him to be the main arcanist.

I'd also like some advice on choosing favored enemies. I was thinking giants at 1st then dragons at 5th but can anyone tell me what sort of foes we'll be facing?

How about a LN female human (Suel) Witch (Gravewalker) (shadow patron) worshiper of Wee Jas? Breda Longshadow grew up in the lands of the Scarlet Brotherhood and became obsessed with undead after he family was murdered by an uncontrolled ghoul. She left the south, and sailed across the Azure Sea and up the river at Hardby to Diamond Lake. She's seeking somewhere out of the way to continue her studies in peace. She's offered her services to the mayor (or leader) of Diamond Lake as a lawyer.
